What a wonderful place to learn, meet new people and make hilarious new friends!  Improv is one of those skills that makes everyone a better person, but what really shines about Blacktop are Paul and Betsaida's commitment to creating a strong sense of community and support in every single session/playground they facilitate.  They also foster a strong sense of community on social media, which is rare in this industry but very, very precious to those wanting to continue the conversation!

Whether you are interested in improving as an actor or would just like to try something new, everyone is welcome and everyone (no matter their skill level or how many times they've been to Blacktop) begins each playground as a blank slate.  You also don't have to step on stage at all if you don't want to, but it's so much fun that eventually everyone does!

I took the level 1 class and learned a lot about myself.  These instructors are astute!  Having previously trained with instructors from the American Conservatory Theater I must admit that I've gotten just as much food for thought from my visits to Blacktop. Such is the power of well-taught improv.

The shows are high energy and great fun as well!  I recommend bringing your loud laugh (or a lot of loud friends) because improv gets better and better with a rambunctious audience.  I'd rather not review their shows without attending more, but I had a blast when I went!

I hope you'll come play with me at the Thursday playground, it's such fun!

I went to my first improv class on Thursday, and went back to see a performance on Friday; everyone on staff is super warm and welcoming. The class was lots of fun, and the performance - wow, that's amazing where improv and go.
    Thanks Paul and Betsaida!

I always have such a fun time here. Everyone is so nice and supportive.  I would never be worried about inviting my parents to come see a show. It's Improv so you never know where the story line will go.  It is super fun and we have found something to do as a family.  We have also enjoyed learning Improv and playing Improv games at the Playground on Thursday nights.  Thanks for all the fun and support Blacktop.

We regularly go to the other improv place with a sportz theme and enjoy it. We were glad to find another similar comedy club so close to  us, as we live in Roseville.  We invited some friends to go with us (who also go to the other improv place) to check out BlackTop Comedy.

The main reason we go to the other place is because it's 'family friendly' and we don't have to worry about what we might see and hear.  I looked at BlackTop's website and didn't see anything that said they were "family friendly" but that they didn't try to be vulgar or anything like that, so we went.

The show was funny, but went downhill fast when they actors started using four letter words just out of the blue. It didn't add to the comedy and it was obvious they were throwing the language in there to be edgy or just because they could.

At intermission, we saw four people leaving.  My group should have left too.  We didn't and ended up getting even more obscenities thrown at us the entire 2nd half.

I'm saying that they should not have used that kind of language, but I wish I would have known ahead of time so I could have made an informed decision as to what I was paying to see and hear.  Just put a note on the website stating that there will be R Rated language and it's all good. Then I will know. (The amount of language and words they were using would make a movie have an R rating).

I was hoping for a close place to have my teenagers feel comfortable going and having fun, but I am disappointed.

We won't be going back, and will continue to make the trek to Sacramento to attend the one and only "family friendly" comedy club in the area.

Blacktop Comedy is the spot for improv, sketch and more! It's a great facility and they do quality and funny work. If you're looking for a place that will train you in good quality improv training this is the place you should go. They also have established a really good community there. The owners really know what they're doing and you can tell that they are really passionate about their theater. Highly recommend that you go here.
