I worked here for a short time and was absolutely disgusted by the kitchen. It was not clean and the cooks were in no way professional. Not only was the food sub par in my opinion, but the waitstaff presented themselves in an unclean manner, always touching their hair, sporting long nails that just attract bacteria and dirt. This was not all of the servers but enough for me to notice. The owners would rave about their food and atmosphere and complain about their clients' tastes if they preferred to try the growing downtown scene instead of coming in to dine at the Blue Wolf. I feel that they place the blame on other's success rather than evaluating their own situations.

Had my moms birthday dinner there. All was great. They accommodated a party of 16 well and service attentive. They also were willing to give separate bills which many places don't.  Menu variety good along with a good children's selection.  Ribs were great!

The food is good if unimaginative ( Italian-America food in Youngstown, imagine!), but I just can't get past that gong-like wolf with the cable whiskers.

Went on a Friday night with family & friends.  Excellent service & food! We liked it so much we went for an early dinner on Saturday.  Again Excellent.  Recommendations- beer battered fish & chips, Ribs, Lobster Ravioli, spaghetti & meat balls!  Good but too much sauce on chicken & shrimp dish & on the lemon pepper ahi tuna (the tuna was swimming in soy sauce).

I think it's fair to say that Youngstown isn't a destination location for food.  Especially if you're a vegetarian. (although the Flaming Ice Cube vegan restaurant is pretty good)  But...my boyfriend is from Youngstown so I've tried out many of the local haunts and have found The Blue Wolf to be the best.  They offer hearty, mid-western comfort food.  I normally opt for a mountain of penne pasta slathered in a tomato cream sauce. Hold the meat please.  Really, no meatball.  Yes, I'm 100% sure I don't want the meatball, but thanks for asking.  Entrees are generally pretty cheap, filling, and come with some sort of side.  My boyfriend and his parents typically order off off the specials menu which can have anything from a flatbread to prime rib.  They generally seem pleased.

When we've gone to The Blue Wolf without my boyfriend's family in tow, we've enjoyed some cocktails at the bar.  $5 martinis?  Hells yes.  And it seems like no matter what time we're there, there are drink specials.

This is my go to when I'm in Youngstown, and if you're looking for a hearty meal on the cheap, check this place out.

I have such mixed feelings for this place.  I used to work there closer to when it opened but moved on.

There was no wait at 6pm on a Friday.  I ordered the greens due to Youngstown being the only place I can get them and they were amazing.  They weren't too greasy or too garlicy and the bread they served them with was so fresh, warm and gooey.

For dinner I ordered the Broiled Pacific Grouper, broiled grouper "served over tomato basil cream sauce."  It was more like served in a vat of tomato basil cream sauce.  Maybe it's my unfamiliarness with this type of sauce but it was so, so sweet and not what I was expecting.  Then, there was just so much of it that it was hard to get the fish out without a ton of the sauce as well.  For my side I chose a baked potato, it was a great baked potato.  My entree also came with a side salad which was just a bit of iceberg lettuce and a grape tomato, they put the dressing on the salad for you.  So, subpar.

If I were to go back it would solely be for a beer and greens at the bar, I could do without the main meal.  Their menu seemed to be centered around italian entrees but they did have other options available.  My friend got a burger and her only complaint was that the bottom bun was soggy.

The service was good and friendly.

The Blue Wolf Tavern is my Dad's favorite restaurant, so every time I'm visiting my parents we inevitably make at least one visit to this bar/ restaurant.  It's conveniently located smack dab between Canfield and Boardman, and seems to attract patrons from across the area.  On weekend nights, you're sure to encounter a hefty wait.  They don't take reservations, but smart folks and regulars know to call ahead to minimize the wait.  If you're the type who likes to belly up to a bar, Blue Wolf has a great one.

My parents always hold out for a booth in the bar area.  It's non-smoking, which is a huge plus, and all of the booths have their own private TVs so you can watch anything you want.  Great for sports. Obviously. Also great are the drink specials.  I was there last Tuesday and could choose from cheap domestic bottles of beer or $2.00 off any martini on the cocktail list.

The food here is excellent.  Generous portions.  Affordable prices.  My dad ALWAYS goes for a dozen wings.  They're some of the best I've ever tried, due to their enormous size, crisp coating, and delicious barbecue sauce.  These massive meaty wings are coating in a cornmeal crust so they retain a nice crispness even after they're doused in sauce.  I can't imagine one person finishing off a dozen of these.  They come with bleu cheese and celery.

I always get their wedding soup and greens-and-cheese.  Get a bowl of wedding soup instead of a cup - you'll be glad you did.  The rich broth is perfectly seasoned and there are lots of goodies floating around: chicken, meatballs, escarole, pasta.  Their greens-and-cheese are some of the best around.  They're REALLY garlicky and tossed with asiago, which makes them salty and rich.  A meal in themselves, accompanied by the rolls that come to the table.  I love their spicy Italian peppers, too.

My ma got pasta in a tomato basil cream sauce when we went last week.  It was filling and delicious but I thought they could have seasoned the sauce a bit more, perhaps with something sweet to counter the acidity of the tomatoes?  She got it with meatballs but you can also choose to get sausage.  Came with a side salad, which they serve on cold metal plates.  Love that.  Great local spot!

This was the only place that I have been to in this area so far that had a daily special menu in addition to the regular menu. The food was decent.  I had the risotto stuffed chicken breast.  During happy hours, draft beers are a dollar off.

This was my first experience here with my wife and three boys. I enjoyed every aspect as we were there because we won a contest to dine with the guys from Freestyle Motocross (FMX) who were in town doing two shows at The Chevy Centre. Also with us was the promoter and the local television news anchor.
The service was great and the food was even better. My wife and I both had scallop dishes and both were equally fantastic! Our waitress was very attentive and kept up on making sure drinks were refilled. The place was busy as it was 7PM on a Thursday night, but not so packed as to make you feel cramped. I will concede that due to the circumstances of who we were dining with, we may have received above average service. In the end, I know I will return and provide a follow up review as to any change in service and/or overall experience.

Been here a number of times.  Is this the best place around, no.  Is it a zero-star, no again (sorry AlliH).

The place does a brisk business, so waiting is a possibility.  The accommodations for waiting (aka the bar) are fairly reasonable, but can get pretty packed.  There are booths in the bar but frustratingly they are for diners so don't expect to walk up and nab one if the place is hopping.

The food is reasonable, but a little pricey.  I've had average service most of the time, but nothing to either extreme.

I think of this place as a good neutral option for those wanting to meet friends or family and don't care to go to Olive Garden or Outback.

If I'm looking for a fine dining experience, I'd hit the Fifth Season.  If I'm looking for good Italian food at a similar price to this place, I'd go to Caffe Capri.

One star only because there is no way to rate this place as Zero.

Seriously one of the most consistently horrible dining experiences ever.  Mediocre food, tainted by offensive service, magnified only by the worst management ever.  Tried it a couple of times and never as bad as the first (which ended in our server literally verbally assaulting a guest --at the next table--whom he had accused of stealing the drink that was served and consumed inside the restaurant...?), but never, ever would I consider it to be anything better than sub-par.
A true testament to the Zero-Star Rating.
