This was our first visit to Bluegrass after hearing about it for years.
We expected a long wait on Mothers day weekend, but were pleasantly surprised that we were seated before our reservation time.
Let me echo what others have said about the service at Bluegrass- it is probably the very best I have experienced, certainly way above other places in the greater Chicago area offering casual dining.
While we were waiting for a table, we had cocktails at the bar and we were impressed with how friendly and efficient the bartender was. A marked contrast to certain bars in the area where the barkeepers have a totally opposite attitude.
Plating and presentation of what we were served was superb, entrees were served quickly after our order was taken. Needless to say it was apparent that they were brought out right from the kitchen, still piping hot and fresh.
We ordered the Baked Tilapia special and an order of the Spicy Shrimp and Crab over angel hair pasta. As couples do, we tasted each other's meals and I was very impressed with the flavor and freshness of both dishes.
We were checked on several times by our server and the manager- if there was something that we needed, it was taken care of right away.
A bit pricey? Perhaps- but I don't see this as a once a week destination for anyone to have a meal. I would think of it as a special occasion place such as birthday or Mother's day when you want to have a well prepared relaxed meal in peace and comfort.
People looking for "family dining" may not find Bluegrass to be their liking- the management is shooting for upscale customers and I feel that they are hitting their target.
TIP: a City of Highland Park municipal building is across the street with additional parking that can be used if Bluegrass' parking lot is full. We found that it was actually a shorter walk to the entrance when parking in the HP city lot rather than the restaurant lot.
