Beer lovers, rejoice! This is a go-to spot in Pismo that can't be beat. With mostly west coast beer on tap, and a global array of bottles, this is a beer connoisseur's beach haven. The staff is stoic, yet friendly and will recommend a mean brew. The food is quality and healthful as their kitchen is too tight to have a deep fryer! Panini to pizza, they've often proven to me that you don't need fish & chips to be a real "surf pub." The atmosphere is warm and cozy with a couple dart boards for the competitive ones. Another kicker is the flat screen frenzy, as I have found very few bars in all the Five Cities that have invested in High Definition for their sports-viewing pleasures. Overall, I always have a good time when I come here. It has yet to do me wrong!
Review Source:My wife, myself and my two kids went in here for lunch on a Sunday and we loved the fact that it is off the beaten path, and there weren't a lot of people in here. Â The beer selection is great, and pizzas were good, nothing mind blowing, but just as good as the other local eateries. Â Unlike many of the other reviews, the bartender was very friendly to us both times we've been in there, although the service has a much lower sense-of-urgency than most places. Â
I cannot speak to the ambiance in the evenings.
If you're looking for a mellow, quiet place to sit down for lunch, and aren't in a hurry, this is a nice change of pace from all of the other restaurants on the main street in town. Â We enjoyed it.
On my way to San Fran, I stopped in Pismo Beach for a beer and quick bite. I found The Boardroom on yelp app! The very cute bartender was friendly and sweet. I ordered the pizza which wasn't good but I ate it anyway. The laid back atmosphere of regulars was awkward for a stranger but I can see this place as a good local bar.
Review Source:We decided to stop at this bar for a few beers. Â They had a nice selections and saw on the menu they had $1 off all beers durning happy hour. Â It was perfect since we arrived just as happy hour started. Â Only to find out where we were paying our bill that they didn't give us the happy hour price. Â So when we questioned our bill we were told by the very rude kitchen guy "no we dont have that deal any longer, THATS YOUR BILL". Â If you no longer honor a deal why would you stil have it printed on ALL your menus and placed out on ALL your tables. Â The guy did not have a to have an attitude with us as it was a simple question. Â After reading the other reviews I assume we got the same grumpy rude guy that others have written reviews about. Â NEVER AGAIN!!!
Review Source:i have to say i am a little surprised at reading some of these reviews. my bf and i have been there lots of times. and not once have i seen any rudness or bad service. i have however seen , loud & rude customers... both bob and steve are super friendly and welcoming. we enjoy the great variety of beers. there is alot to choose from. both domestic and imported. although, my bf and i have our favorites it's nice to know that there is real beer being sold there other then bud and coors light. the food is also, good too. our favorites are the j-5 pizza and bruschetta... the pub has a very comfortable laid back atmosphere. the place is really clean. there is plenty of tv's to watch a variety of sporting events. it's a nice place to have a beer at without the "cheapness" of regular bars. we like it because it's always nice to go where they appreciate your business... i highly recommend the surf pub!
Review Source:Loved it! Â Casual, sports TV, beer and wine, oh boy. Â We have had some horrible hot wings recently, so it was refreshing to have a really good plate. Â Chef even gave us kudos for eating our celery. Â Talked my husband out of his usual so he could try something new. Â You have to try new when there are so many choices. Â Limited wine choices, but it is a beer and pizza type of place. Â Love the vibe, love the food, love the big TVs.
Review Source:I am in California because I recently married my wife on a beach in Santa Barbara (I'm originally from Boston) and I was out with my in-laws the following day to celebrate. The waiter's attitude was cocky and completely disrespectful. He humiliated my new family and made the entire table feel like second-class citizens. We waited 30 minutes for drinks and never received food (because there was only one cook working...on a Saturday!) Then, he runs us down trying to collect on a bill where we waited over an hour for food which we never received. My father-in-law lost it when he threatened to call the police on us as my 2-year old niece witnessed this nonsense. What hospitality. Stay as far away as possible. Absolutely terrible establishment!!!
Review Source:Wow, it's a sausage fest in here; no women, and worse, being mistaken for one by a drunk. Very loud, sometimes obnoxious bar, but you take that at a place like this. Anyway, lots of beer on premises, and what's really interesting is that while there are only 6 on tap, there is is a huge variety of foreign and domestic micro and macrobrew available in bottle, two pages in small print on the menu, and the bottles are mostly of a very reasonable price. Fortunately all prices are listed now, not just ranges.
I'm actually going to bump them up a notch just for having a whole slew of beers that I've never seen, including the Sierra Nevada Köstritzer I enjoyed.
Edit: I'm going to have to bump down because the prices are just completely unreasonable now, for being such a dive, compared to the other microbrew oriented pubs I visit. Nearly everything American is $11-20 for a 22 with no 12oz available, and selection is down to less than one page.
Guys....I know it's a slow day, but, keep that cook in the kitchen!! Â His review of what people are wearing on tv was lame, loud, and a bit embarrassing! Â It took forever to get our order.....only to find out that the bonehead was out jaw jackin....instead of doing what he was suppose to!!
Not as good a visit as the last time!! .....sorry!!
All I remember about this place is that they had some exotic beers and a couple dart boards. I got some dark German one that was pretty tasty. They also had a guitar and ukulele hanging on the wall I guess for anyone to play.
I like how it's close to the pier. I'd for sure check this place out if I were in Pismo and had nothing else to do. I came here while waiting for a table at The Cracked Crab.
Love the location, vibe, staff, and brew/wine selection. The food has been good each time I've ordered some but nothing wonderful. It all sounds good but isn't very exciting once you've waited a very long time, only one person in the kitchen usually, and the flavors don't pop as they seemed to on the menu. Also, that side salad that comes with your sandwich... its a small bowl of lettuce, thats it.
Review Source:Awesome! Very nice inside with chairs at the window so you can people watch and magazines to read. Only about 100 different beers to chose from. Â $6 for a Fransiskaner -Large German beer. We had the best Bruschetta in our lives. The roast beef and blue cheese panini was equally tasty. Â Will definitely be back.
Atmosphere was friendly, but not crazy loud so that you can actually have a conversation.
Excellent Beer selection. Â
I was a little put-off by the pricing structure on the menu. Â I ordered a beer priced at 2. Â So I think, "DAMN! Â $2 beer! Â I love this place!" Â Unfortunately, you have to refer to the legend at the bottom of the menu... 2 means your beer is priced $11 - $20. Â First of all, that is a pretty big range for a beer, and second of all... just call it what it is! Â
Also, ambiance wise, this spot's a little odd. Â It's practically on the beach, its called the boardroom (as in surf boards), but it's kinda too nice inside... perhaps this is to reflect the more literal meaning of boardroom? Â I dunno, what mattered the most is that the bartender was cool and the beer selection was excellent.
Oh yeah! Â We sampled the flatbread pizzas too, not too shabby. Â I ordered mine w/o cheese and it was still decent.
We went here to use our gift certificate from http://restaurant.com. They have a huge selection of beer. I also liked that they had a vegetarian burger (Tree Hugger) which was pretty good. The sandwiches come with a side order. Tip: Do NOT order the side salad because it's only lettuce with dressing on top. Their potato salad is a much better side option.
Review Source:The food was rather lackluster, but it was the slooooow service and the asshole temperament of the bartender that really sealed the deal.
Also, if you're backed up or something, it would help to not have the bartender drink beer and eat in front of everyone. That just makes you look like a dick.
I won't be back.
If you aren't a local, don't expect good service. Â Don't even expect the help to the be cordial. Â In fact, even if you ask for something that's clearly on the menu, they'll lie right to your face and say they don't have it. Â
Hubby asked for a Coors Light and Bob (the overly rude beertender) said they only had good beer. Â I asked for the Cab and he said he didn't have it. Â I pointed to it on the menu and then whipped out my computer to write my Yelp review. Â I made sure Bob (the nasty bartender) saw me do a Yelp checkin. Â Then miraculously my wine appeared.
The only thing that saved our experience here was meeting a nice local couple who we drank with for a while. Â Bob (the horrible) would be nice to the couple and then openly treat us like dirt. Â In fact, the man was drinking Coors Light and I told them Bob (the liar) said they didn't have it. Â
The long and short of it - I agree with Diann B. Â Great location. Â Cute space. Â Terrible service (thanks, Bob). Â
If you don't want tourists in your local hangout, you should open your bar in another town that doesn't get tourists. Â There's no excuse for being rude to nice people and your Momma should have taught you that lying is wrong. Â Tsk! Â Tsk!
TIP: Â For a good dose of attitude and terrible service, this is the hot spot.
Hidden gem to say the least. Flat grill chicken appetizer is must and male it spicy. It is definite a Locals place but Steve made us Valley people welcomed. It is off the beaten path and definitely puts Harry's to shame. Â Being a Wednesday there was a DJ spinning the tunes which made for an enjoyable afternoon. Great selection of beer that can suit everyone's taste. Steve - Job well done!
Review Source:We were given a gift certificate to http://restaurant.com We decided to try this place. The terms were: spend $35, pay 18% gratuity (no matter what), your $25 will be subtracted from the (sub)total.
First Impressions:
GREAT LOCATION! It is right across from the parking lot w/machines for payment and 1/4 block from the beach. The interior ...clean & attractive. Love the decor! Not busy. Only 1 bartender, Steven N., on duty.
The Whole Enchilada:
Within 5 minutes, the bartender came over and took our beer and J-5 Pizza order. I took 2 menus from the bar.
People (approx. 8) started to come in. Steven started pouring for everyone. We were scratching our lottery tickets while we waited.
20 minutes later, I got up went to the bar and made eye contact. He nodded and poured us the beers. He delivered our Sierra Nevada Kellerweis Hefenweizens sans garnish (usually an orange) and sans apology. We ordered the chopped BBQ chicken salad at that time. We ordered a second round, at 4:05, after the food arrived .
I checked my phone for the time as Happy Hour is $1 off beers from 4-6 or 7. Again, no garnish. That's when my husband joked quietly to me... Well he knows he doesn't have to work for the tip.
The Pizza, size small to medium, was good. The J-5 was pepperoni & red bell peppers on a thin crust. The Chopped BBQ Chicken salad was good as well.
Our receipt:
Sierra Nevada Kellerwe (on tap) $5.50 x 4 = $22.00
J-5 Pizza $11.99
Chopped Barbeque Chick $8.99

I brought the missed Happy Hour beer prices to Steven N.'s attention. He said his 'computer' (or something to that affect) doesn't miss Happy Hour. I assured him, because I'm telling the truth, that my iPhone said 4:05. He said.."No Problem ... take off $2. We left $26 on the table.
The Skinny:
Service = poor
Food = good ......yet the pizza is overpriced.
Location = great
Beer = not cold enough yet tasty and a bit overpriced.

Advice to owners:
**Buy beer glasses. Your glasses look like the old Coca Cola glasses (small version).
**Beer on tap as all beer should be delivered cold. Chill the glasses.
**Treat new customers as well as the locals. Don't provide a lesser service when the customers identify themselves as using the http://restaurant.com certificate. (I realize this may NOT be the reason for the substandard service. Nevertheless, it feels like good advice.)
After You take a walk down the Beach or hit up some waves near the pier, stop into the Boardroom Surf Pub. This place is perfect!!!
Me and my wife stopped in one evening and were very impressed. They have a nice selection of beers, (including Lagunitas, my FAV), and my wife enjoyed the selection of wines.
This pub seemed to have a real cool "locals" feel to it and the staff were very friendly And helpful.
Plus you can't go wrong with an ocean view and big screen TV showing that nights baseball game! We will definitely be back!
Great beer selection, both bottled and on tap. Many nice beers from around the world. Food is good, slightly pricey for pub fare, but good. Ambiance is wonderful and usually has music or games on TV. The bartender is also the owner and is really nice. Everyone becomes friends when they walk in the door. Live music Saturdays (and Wednesdays I believe). 100 yards from the sand.
Review Source:Wow!! I discovered this place while walking downtown Pismo. I was tired of going to Harry's or Pier Side : P. This is a nice place to chill and with great FOOD!! Their BEER selection was awwwwesome!!! If you love BevMo with their beer selection you would love the Boardroom!!! They have panini sandwiches and flatbread pizzas that goes great with the beer! You have to come here to see what I mean! :) Â Â Pssst.. If you're a guy that wants to bring your girl here, they also have a great local wine selection if she hates beer!
Review Source:we like the atmosphere, the view and the beer. all the rest was not good. the food was not good. (roast beef sandwich especially bad). the service was non existent, or were we non existent? I had to wonder if we had turned invisible. the time it took to get the food would have been fine if it were good food...but...no. we will not go back. the beer selection seemed okay, but most was bottled, and a few on tap. beer was fine. lots of room for improvement. if the place would serve decent food, it would be worth going back. bear in moind while reading this review, we had gone for lunch, with a beer, rather than beer only.
Review Source:My wife, son and I had dinner and drinks at the Boardroom Surf Pub tonight. Â We were pleasantly surprised with our evening out. Â The ambiance was very nice and relaxed which was complimented by the owner and bartender Steve (love the surfboards on the ceiling). Â The selection or draft and bottle of beers was very extensive and the listing of local wines was very good as well. Â We had the burgers and pizza, which were very tasty, good quality, and well worth the price. Â The pizza was really unique thin crust and the dutch crust buns hamburgers were very satisfying!
If you are in the pier area of Pismo Beach and you are looking for a casual dining experience with good food, beer, and wine selection I would recommend you stop by the Boardroom and have a great time!
We will be returning!
I have to agree the Kahanu burger wa good. Â The soup and salad was terrible! Â The service was very slow. Â It took 30 minutes for our lunch from the time we ordered.... admittedly we sat at the tables and the bartender was our server but the service was terrible as well. Â I used a http://restaurant.com coupon saving$ 25 on our order but even with that much of a discount I would never eat here again. Â It looks like a great bar if you are looking for a good bar that serves food it may rate higher but as far as a dining experience in itself.... I don't recommend!
Review Source:Stopped in to finish the night off. Â Now it is only a beer and wine bar, BUT their beer selection won my heart over. Â All I can say is the beer selection (bottle) has a wide range of great tasting beer. Â On this Saturday night, Mat was there playing on the guitar. Â Yup I am a fan, when I am town I will be back.
Review Source:This is a cute pub in a great location, but unfortunately that's not enough to make me want to return to the Boardroom. Â
Our server was in a bad mood. Â He just stood a few feet away, waiting while we looked at the menus. Â And he couldn't even be bothered to smile when he took our order. Â (Or when he brought us our food!)
The food was okay, but not great. Â The caesar salad was good, but the bruschetta was drowning under some kind of balsamic reduction and had melted cheese on top. Â I really didn't need that.
There was live music, but when we were there on Saturday night it was kind of depressing--an older guy playing early 70's stuff (Jim Croce & John Denver) that no one was listening to. Â Who could blame them?
Great beer selection! They carry the Stone IPA on draft plus a dozen European ales in the bottle. This is without a doubt the nicest bar in Pismo. It is usually inhabited by locals who know this. Better than expected bar food is available; from sandwiches to pub pizza. These guys have done a really nice job with this place. Music a couple nights a week add to the draw.
Review Source:Hidden Jewel that the locals only know about. Â Great atmosphere for the whole family. Â Service is fast. Â Great selection of beers on tap or in bottle. Â The Food is excellent. Â I recommend the Kahuna Burger with spicy Mayo. Â Great place to watch sporting events. Â Overall great spot to unwind after a hard day at work. Â Free Wifi is also a plus. Â If you're in Pismo and want a place to chill and meet great people The Boardroom is where it's at!
Review Source:Everytime we make a trip to Pismo, my husband and I plan to visit the Boardroom Surf Pub. Â A cozy, friendly spot to get a taste of some great local wines and sample the great menu they have to offer. Â We are treated like a local with a friendly welcome and the traditional hand shake. Â The crew that works there have been fun to talk with and are natives to the area so you can always get some good advice on where to go. Â It is a must to visit this pub when you are in the area or just passing by.
Review Source:Feel like hanging out at the Pismo pier where you can watch the sun set while you enjoy a glass of beer or wine while being treated with total kindness by the irie staff? If you time it right, you can catch live reggae while you watch the tourists from the huge windows.
I've never eaten there, but I've been there several times and I always walk away impressed. The staff are awesome. A nice hidden treasure in Pismo.
