I have been a regular for about 3 years. The place has changed ownership about a year ago.
Some of the food for bar food is decent. If you get the drinks on specials the prices are good.
My problem is with the new ownerships manager. His name is Eric. The guy never does anything but sit and feed his face or talk to the very few women (that are not with their husband or boyfriend) that are ever there. It's a fun local bar where everyone gets to know you.
The only time that I ever saw him do anything is when he changed a keg once. Otherwise he just sits there and does nothing.
I was spending a fair amount there every week. I complained a couple of times about the chilli because they change it every couple of weeks. One of the times it was pretty good. I mentioned that he should go back to that one. He felt that I should not complain. I guess customer feed back is not welcome with Eric. Maybe he should be fired and bring in a real manager to get more people in the place and keep them. His girlfriend ( bartender) has the same lame personality as he does,
Get rid of Eric and I will be back.
Not too shabby!! Â
My friend and I came here for cheaper drinks after our meal at Seasons 52. Â We didn't want our date to end, but we also didn't want to pay 10.50 per drink.
Enter Bob McCullough's. Â
We got there around 8 on a Saturday night, and the place was surprisingly slow. Â There were about five people at the bar, and that was it. Â So we joined them and both ordered Amaretto Stone Sour. Â My friend said she had had it there before and it was really good because the guy that made them put a little bit of Red Bull into the glass, so it was a sparkling kick.
Unfortunately that guy wasn't making our drinks. Â It was a girl who was VERY heavy-handed with the "sour" portion. Â EEK! Â I could barely drink it!! Â But a managed ((wipes sweat from brow)) and ordered a Mike's Hard Lemonade after that, just to be safe.
My tab was $9.50 for my two drinks (5.00 for the sour...eek, I mean Amaretto Stone Sour and $4.50 for the Mike's). Â
There were some more people that came by in the couple hours that we were there. Â Some played pool, some ordered food, but it wasn't super busy by any means.
I had a good time, though, and if I am ever around there looking for cheap drinks, I know where to go!
I wish I could rate the service, food, and drinks separately. Â It's the food that is preventing my rating to be a single star. Â
The burgers are great, I love that they have tater tots, their nachos are HUGE, but  THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE.
I've been going to this bar for about a year now semi-regularly. Â I was hoping after the ownership changed the service would get better. Â Nope. Â There's always one waitress working, two people at the bar, a pretty small crowd of customers and it takes forever to get a drink. Â In my opinion, a good bar never allows your bottle to go empty. Â At Bob's your bottle goes empty and then all the drops at the bottom evaporate while you wait for the staff to notice your existence and to offer you another.
My friend and I decided to check this place out after sushi just a few doors up to grab a couple drinks and play some pool. We walked in and were not greeted. We found a spot in a dark abandoned corner. Took a minute for the waitress to come by and take our drink order. We sit and talk for about 20 minutes while we wait for a billiard table to open up. By then my bottle was empty, and no one had even come by to see how we were doing. I had to walk up to the bar to order another drink and wait 5 minutes for someone to even notice I was standing there.
Got my drinks, and a pool table finally. Also, apparently, karaoke night is on Thursday as well. So we finish up our pool game just as karaoke begins, and the waitress finally comes around to ask if we want to close our tab. (What tab, I didn't start one). We reply with a "yes." We were under-charged for our drinks and over-charged for our pool game. My only advice is that you pay more attention to your customers...and maybe the tip would be better. Just sayin.
I live only 2 minutes away from this place and I went there for the first time last week. Â A few of us went over there to check it out. Â One, because it's an Irish place and my family is QUITE Irish. Â And two, we were slightly bored with the other areas around town so we decided to check it out!
It was a Wednesday night when we went and it wasn't crowded... at all. Â Which is slightly worrisome because it was an adorable little joint. Â And it's WAY bigger than you'd expect! Â Tons of Billiards and a great staff. Â As soon as we walked in, one of the servers asked us if we wanted popcorn (for free). Â Very pleasant.
We only had drinks at the bar, no food, but the bartender was extremely nice. Â I believe his name was Bob (no, not THE Bob). Â He was very helpful and named off some specials and recommendations. Â Even though the well drinks were $3.00, he gave them as tall ones. Â That was super nice of him! Â
I'll have to check out their food the next time I go, but it as a nice little place. Â I was a little confused as to why they didn't spice up the bar with more Irish merchandise, but maybe they'll get there. Â They had a ton of Chicago items though, so that was fun... but let's see some Irish stuff too! Â
Cute little joint and a nice staff. Â Check it out sometime and see what ya think!
Nice little neighborhood tavern that is around the corner from my friends' place. Â It is a lot bigger than it looks on the outside, and we were able to enjoy a few beverages well after other watering holes in the area had closed. Â My brother appreciated one of their hand-stretched pizzas, and we found the help had a lot brought a lot of levity and was attentive. Â Probably put it on the short list of go-to places to visit for a drink when we are in the area again.
Review Source:If I were ranking the bar itself, I would give it one star. Â But since they had live music, Slowhand a Clapton/Cream cover band, I had to up the rating a little for awesome music! Â The food was pretty terrible... we ordered the potato skins which were overpriced ($7 for 4 dry bland potato skins). Â The drinks were not very cheap like others said. Â Mixed well drinks were $4 and Bud light bottles were $3. Â You can get that anywhere in the suburbs.... or an even better deal at an equal hole in the wall.
I came here right after eating at  the fabulous Sushi Ya and if it wasn't for the band I would have left right away.
Maybe I expected too much out of McMullough's, you know, since they sponsored our softball team and all. Â But really is it too much to ask for decent service and maybe a drink special since they know we're showing up every week to spend mony at their establishment? Â Now I'm not sure how much of the team fee they paid for, and their drink prices actually aren't too bad to begin with, but I think the most important thing for a sponsor is to reward your team for weekly revenue with some drink specials. Â But that's not even the part that irks me. Â The service here is bad. Â And I'm talking week after week after week, and they were never all that busy, and it's Fridays I'm talking about. Â I can't think of one time I came here where I thought the wait staff ever either cared if our beer glasses were empty or even took all of our orders at one time, correctly, and not take an hour to bring us what we ordered. Â Honestly the only things that saved this place from one-star rating pergutory were the cheap drink prices, the fact that they have cheap pool, and that I was amused that every week they for some inexplicable reason had CFL (Canadian Football League) games on tv.
Review Source:Is it on and popping on a Friday evening - not at all!
SLOW service.. Ordered an appetizer combo platter and after 15 min the waitress comes up and lets us know they are out of mozzarella sticks! So we waited and waited and finally the appetizer combo platter was served with our food. Â Does it get better? Nope. The chicken wrap was bland, the potato skins & wings just average.
Oh a bright note, they do have pretty good drink specials!
The cheapest pool hall I've found in the area and a lot nicer than the bowling alleys. Â The pool tables are really nice, servers are super friendly, and prices are cheap. Â Haven't tried any of their food yet, so maybe next time if I'm hungry.
Mon. - Thurs. from 11AM - 7PM: $5/person unlimited play
Fri. - Sat.: $5/person per hour
- 4 full size pool tables & 1 smaller table
- daily drink specials ($1.99 pints when I went)
- free darts area w/ leather couch seating
- they have a ping pong table (not sure if it's free)
not a bad place for happy hour. the people were friendly, and it was a decent amount of people. the daily drink specials are solid too.
food.. was ok- as far as bar food goes. the chicken wrap was aok. they do serve waffle fries, and i'm a sucker for some good waffle fries.
from talking to the bartenders (ann was awesome), they just started serving food- so hopefully they'll up the qual a notch in that area.
