Worst food I have had!! My buddy had a burger and it was bloody as hell. He had a little tiny salad that couldn't even feed a rabbit and was charged the same price as a large side salad. The waitress took my buddies burger back not making him a new one they recooked the old one to a burnt and then put it on the same on bun that he already took two bites out of... Sorry but that was the worst food we have had. The service also sucked. I wouldn't go here to eat. T
Review Source:I returned but my opinion hasn't budged. Beer selection still good, and the bartender was much friendlier than the last one I had. Gumbo was good, and the fries were very good - you can tell they are made in house.
I just couldn't get down with the spinach wrap. The smoked salmon was very good! So good that it doesn't belong in that oversized tortilla, doused in the mayo-based sauce. I couldn't taste a drop of the chipotle honey vinaigrette - just mayo and tortilla. It was very small for $9. And it bothers me that you have to pay extra for sides. In this case, the wrap came with chips - still not worth $9, and it kind of defeats the purpose of serving something healthy if you cover it in a mayo sauce and serve it with potato chips. They do have two salads on the menu, but they are very uninspiring.
This place looks nice and has some very cool decor on the walls. Â
The boudain balls I had were good.
The cons - the beer taps I requested were messed up.
3 boudain balls took 25 minutes to receive.
Service was absolutely awful.
I didn't order an entree because my server never returned.
Funny that this bar is located in the former Adult Probation/ Planned Parenthood strip mall. Several San Marcos bartenders had told us to check this place out. I didn't go to TxSt but still think it's cool they have a bar themed after them. You will find many a beer and bros here. Â I don't mind this at all. Their loaded potato soup is creamy and tasted like real potatoes! The cajun wings are better than Pluckers, yo! We shared the ribeye cheesesteak. I couldn't finish my half because it was too salty. Â Whatevez, don't care for cheesesteak anyway. They have weekly specials, my favorite being Mexican Mondays. Good job, Brandon!
Review Source:Sorry guys, I was not impressed. Â The atmosphere is so-so, what you'd expect for a strip mall. Â The beer selection was ok, although they were out of several and our waitress could give us no info on the beers available. Â Waitress was very nice but no super helpful. Â Burger was just ok, about what you 'd grill at home. Â Pet peeve- sides are not included so the price of a burger and fries is $9-11, a little pricey for the quantity and portions I thought.
Review Source:With graduation coming up faster than I can possibly imagine (finally), I started feeling a nice bit of Texas State Bobcat pride. With that being said, when I got a restaurant recommendation from a woman who follows Slow Down & Savor on Facebook for Bobcat Nation Sports Bar and Grill, a Texas State themed sports bar and restaurant, I was so down. I was even more excited when she shared her favorite item on their menu, a house smoked salmon wrap.
Once I got out of my first class and met with my internship coordinator, my stomach let me know that it was time to go to Bobcat Nation. It let me know through a series of really loud growls. It sounded like a ravenous Lion, or a crazy bear. Yeah, super loud.
Obeying the wild kingdom in my tummy, I made my way to Bobcat Nation. I love that it's so close to campus. I walked probably all of 10 minutes from classroom to restaurant door. I arrived at 11:03 a.m., three minutes after they opened for business for the day. Needless to say, I was the only person there. I'm glad that I don't have a care in the world about being "that girl" who eats alone in an empty restaurant on a late Monday morning. Their free Wi-Fi helped me not feel totally lonely, I should mention. Boop boop!
The bar/restaurant was REALLY attractive. I was pretty impressed. I have to confess, I had no idea what to expect, since all I knew about this place was "sports bar" and "in a strip mall." The exterior leaves much to be desired, but I guess what they say about not judging a book by its cover isn't just a cutesy saying.
The large front windows allowed a ton of natural light to spill in and illuminate the room. The dining space had high ceilings, and made it look a lot bigger than it really is. Not to say it's small, but the illusion of a larger space than reality was accomplished. The full bar was sort of beautiful, and I can see where watching a game on one of the several flat screens over one of their tap beers or cocktails would be a fun experience. I'll have to keep this place in mind for the upcoming NFL season.
So anyway, after I ordered my water and took a look at the menu, I was ready to order. I secretly knew what I wanted before I stepped foot into the establishment, but I wanted to keep up appearances by going through the whole thing. And by going through the whole thing I mean just look at it without actually paying any attention whatsoever. I DID, however, take a to-go menu home with me, so that I can see what else they have to offer.
But like I said, I knew what I wanted to get before I walked in. How? Because the same woman who told me that I had to get out to Bobcat Nation also provided me with her favorite menu item, the house smoked salmon wrap (A spinach wrap filled with their house smoked salmon, mixed greens/spinach, cucumber, tomato and parmesan cheese drizzled with chipotle honey vinaigrette and remoulade sauce).
Wham. I love smoked salmon. I love wraps. I was sold within 3.2 seconds. She also suggested I get their Mardi Gras cabbage as a side, but sadly, they were no longer featuring this item on their menu. My server told me about a new side they are offering, yummy grilled zucchini. I gave the thumbs up to the replacement, and made my order complete.
After a pretty short wait (I was the only one there for goodness sakes), I was presented with my wrap and zucchini on a silver plate. Yep. A silver plate.... This was a bit odd, but I decided to go with it.
The wrap was amazing. I'll just say it. I loved every single bite. The fish was tender and had an amazing flavor that is unique to smoked salmon. There were plenty of veggies, and they were quite fresh. The textures ranged from soft and buttery to crunchy and bright. After I scarfed down the first half of my wrap, I decided to test out the zucchini.
I'm glad I gave thumbs up on this veggie side. They were seasoned with something a little spicy, and a lot delicious. They were actually grilled too. They came to the table complete with grill marks and tasted like it was over the fire. I totally appreciated that, and felt like I made a nice, healthy decision too. They were more satisfying than say, fries or potato chips. I'm not saying that when I get home I won't eat chips, because you can bet your bottom dollar that I will. (Bottom dollar? I just went all Annie on you.)
The moral of the story is that I'm so glad I reached out on Facebook for recommendations for lunch, and I'm even MORE glad that I had a response! I'm not kidding when I ask for readers' suggestions. I love getting them, and I will totally follow through with them too! So, thank you Nikki W. for such a great suggestion!I will for sure be back to Bobcat Nation, and next time, I will for sure look at the menu first. Though, I did fall in love with that wrap...
Had a second great meal at lunch today.  A burger with bacon and cheddar.  It was perfectly medium rare with a fresh bun that I think is called a kaiser roll.  I ordered the veg of the day as a side - Mardi Gras Cabbage.  I was nervous but it turned out to be better than the burger.  Green and purple cabbage sautéed with some creole seasonings.  Perfectly crispy yet tender.  I counted 20 beer taps and many imports in bottles in the glass front cooler down below.
