If you can't have fun here, then you are some sort of freaking alien/commie hybrid!! Seriously, what is your problem?!
The Bohnam has everything anyone could want: multiple level dance floors, bars EVERYWHERE, food and smoking on the patio,go-go dudes (which I think they should have go-go chicks too, I mean even gay guys like girls skimpy clothes)
Pick a bartender and stick with them, they get more and more generous with the pours the more you come back.  Give them a dollar extra a drink you cheap monkey and they'll take care of you!!

My roommate and I decided after a long, hard semester and a grueling finals week that we needed desperately to blow off some steam.  She and I can get pretty crazy and we're really adventurous.  Enter Bonham Exchange.  It was our first trek there, and it was WELL worth it.

    This. Place. Is. Awesome.

If you're young (18-32ish?) and you love to socialize, meet tons of interesting people, and go exploring intricately laid out historical fancy buildings, BE is the bomb diggity.  Plus, it's LGBT friendly.  Homophobes, take your bigotry elsewhere.

Because the building used to be a really fancy house or something, the layout of the club is super interesting.  Each room has a different thing going on.  Want to just play pool?  Done, just go into the pool room.  Want an excuse to rub up against attractive strangers because the elevated walking perimeter overlooking the dance floor is so narrow?  Done. Male strippers and a bar in another room?  Done.   And in the center of it all, of course you have the obligatory dance floor with dancey platforms to hop up onto if you're feeling bold.  And holy crap, there's even a third story.  I mean Jesus, it's nuts, and you just can't get bored.

The DJ played really fun music, and he/she really knows how to transition between tracks so that your groove isn't thrown off.

Cheap drinks and super friendly bar tenders.

Best part?  Other patrons! Most people we encountered were highly sociable, interesting, friendly, fun, intelligent -- and HOLY HELL attractive!  This is where the beautiful people and sex gods/goddesses live.  I can only speak from my limited experience, but the men here are sweethearts -- they don't feel entitled to groping you, and they'll often flirt politely or ask you to dance rather than just forcing themselves on you.  Any bold or aggressive advances are solely verbal, and are executed in such a way as to make you feel flattered rather than grossed out.

People aged 21+ get in free before 10:00 PM!  Yes, please.

    Only two tiny things:

    1.  You have to pay cash at the door.  Not a big deal for me though!  Well worth it.
    2. The elevated walking perimeter overlooking the main pit is just too narrow. Grinding on someone is necessary just to get past them, but y'know....if they're cute, it's not so bad!

It's an adventurous  party girl's paradise.  Just go.  Seriously.

I gave the Bonham a rating of one star because it was not possible to give it none!
I went to the Bonham on the night of May 4th because my 21st birthday was on the 5th. Of course realizing this would be an issue, my party and I waited until 12:30am (ON MAY 5TH) to arrive at the club for a great celebration. Upon arriving at the door I was greeted by a VERY rude lady who was checking the ID's, she informs me that I am NOT 21 until 8am the that morning.  My friends and I then tried to inquire if this was the clubs rule or something federal like a TABC thing, the lady then informed us that it was a TABC rule. When I then put a pouty face and moved to the side to regroup with my friends after a short deliberation we decided if it was a TABC thing we might as well stay there since all clubs would probably be the same. The lady then quickly rushed inside to inform ALL the staff  about the event that I previously mentioned.
They then proceed too mark me and allow me to enter the club. (after paying a hefty sum of 25 dollars) Needles to say my 21st birthday was RUINED.
The next day I inquisitively emailed the TABC and asked if this "not 21 until 8am" was a new rule and when it had come into effect, seeing as no one remembered this, or had ever even heard of it. The TABC then responded that no such guideline existed or at least one that they enforced.
HOWEVER whether or not this rule/regulation was true or not, they still handled my situation poorly. I never once heard a "sorry", "have fun", "we understand but,..", "happy birthday (today/tomorrow/whenever)" or much less "we hope you still have a nice night."
Therefor however much fun the club may or may not be, I won't be returning anytime soon, or at least until the staff gets a new attitude make over.

Went here this Friday with my roommates, who are a married same sex couple. But this place is really for everyone. I liked the top floor; it was the hip hop music I liked and the best bartender is up there too. We tried 2 other bartenders, one on patio and one near the main floor an they were kinda rude and pretentious. I liked the door people tho. And the architecture of this place is really cool. Its huge and ppl are there to have fun, not judge. An added bonus? I didn't smell like a cigarette when I left.

I used to like this place for the ample space and drinks. I recently returned to discover a guy whom I know to be a registered sex offender working the door; so I guess they don't do background checks on their employees.... Then I notice that a grown woman gets denied entry by the manager because she told the bouncer that he was being rude to another customer. Lmao I dont know what kind of management acts so petty. After standing in line for 30min, the first thing I saw in the restroom was a girl who was obviously under age being fed shots of tequila. Where was the manager then? This place has turned into a bunch of young alcoholics and ghetto people. The music isn't that great but they have cheap drinks. That's the only plus. Management is also ghetto and so are most of the patrons. I'm 29 and like to party but personally I'd rather check out classier places.

If you wanna have a great time and be surrounded by beautiful people.. Bonham Exchange is the place to be.

I have been there a couple of times and always have a great experience. Theres a variety of different people, and they are all nice including the employees. No rudeness in a club.. yes!! Also, the bartenders rock at making drinks. The music is cool! Only club I have ever heard that plays Lady Gaga!

It's always fun at Bonham. That's why my first 5 stars are going to this place.

The first night we got into San Antonio, my sister brought us here and boy did I have a blast!  I won't go through the run down of the place, since most of the reviewers have already done so.  I loved the open atmosphere and as another reviewer said, instead of guys creeping up on you, they would ask you if you wanted to dance.  When we got bored with one room we would walk around to another room and watch people dance and just went upstairs to watching the booty shaking contest, which takes place around midnight.  Having spent a week in San Antonio, I plan on making this city my home in a couple months.

Do you know why I moved to San Antonio?
Aside from a glamorous job with mucho dinero (sarcasm meter), it was because SA is laid back, fun and nowhere near as pretentious as Houston (born and raised).

Bonham Exchange truly reminds me why I love this city.

Clientele: It's a good mix.  Tourists coming from the River Walk and natives who come to get their dance on.  It's part-gay bar, part-night club.  And everyone just does their own thing.  There are minors here, there are older folk here.  But it's all good - that's the best part!  I never encounter any d-bags or Jersey Shore wannabes.  Casual but nice dress.

Location:  It's on the north end of downtown, just far enough away from the River Walk clusterfuck, but close enough for all of your visiting friends and family.  It's also far enough away from downtown that you can find sufficient free street parking in the blocks to the north.

    Cover: $5 21+ // minors pay $25.

Drinks: $1 DRINKS! So. Much. Win.

Venue:  There are SO many different rooms and dance floors - upstairs, downstairs, a music video room, a pool table room, side rooms, etc.  You can still dance your ass off but then go somewhere quieter to talk... get freaky... whatever.  There is so much history to this building, I can't even begin to explain.

    Bathrooms: Acceptable.

If you needed any more reason to go, I leave you with Bonham's "Mission Statement," which is posted on their website:
"At the Bonham Exchange we strive to not only provide a safe venue for music and dancing, but  to change with the times. We hope to expose people to new ideas and to maintain a space where ALL individuals can get along and enjoy each others company regardless of sex, race, ethnicity, age, or sexual preference."

Okay, so last night the Clubbin' vibe was in the Air and decided to take a chance on this place since the rest of the other peer reviews were Awesome. In our mixed group, the girls wanted a place that they wouldn't get hit on so much while the guys wanted cheap drinks and good beats....-This place satisfied All. Nuff said.

COVER:1kudo point awarded for free cover before ten and no line.=)
    Normal Cover:18+=$25 21+=$5.

LOCATION:1/2 kudo point deducted for being a little hard to find at first and a bit distant from the riverwalk for the girls in heels.

DRESSCODE: always look your best..but for judging purposes, chill.

CROWD: Mixed. A little older only because the kiddos are discouraged by a $25 cover. There's a couple of weirdos, 1/4 military 1/4college kids 1/2 locals.

ATMOSPHERE: Okay, so you know the map on COD BlackOps Zombies..the movie theater one??? It kind of felt like that for me with multiple rooms, multiple floors, high ceilings and an old classical style looking building. It was a little more eerie when our group got there a little before ten and we were "opening" the club.
not bad for a rennovated old building.

    MUSIC: MultiThemed-------

Front left Room: Top 40...Full bar....TV screen room with music videos playing. Straight folk be warned; Bonham was advertised as a Mixed/gay friendly crowd...Be PREPARED for the Dancers on the Poles...(thunder from down under gogoBOYS**(the girls had fun with them at least..haha)

Main Pit: DANCE-Progressive/Agressive mixes...Laser lights, Black light lit, fog....Spacious...Small bar tucked in the corner. Two elevated dance platforms on the main floor for standouts...spectators on the outer rim get to check out the crowd from above and the sides...

Upstairs Balcony: Rap/CaliSwag/Dougie. Small bar...wooden highschool gymfloor like appearance. You remember the auditorium in elementary school right?? something of that nature...still great beats tho..

Patio: Reggae - Totally the back yard BBQ feel with Full Service Bar. Just wish it wasn't so cold that night to stay outside longer.

Place got a little too crowded about midnite...by crowded I mean, no longer danceable...I'm used to a comfy 2-3 ft bubble to work in..We left. the line for the place trying to come in stretched out a couple blocks it seemed when we were leaving.  Visitors, I'd suggest catching a cab to the spot..for locals, the mall parking lot is across the street but you know..when visiting...and on foot..its a little harder.

IMPROVEMENTS: possibly consider a nite with gogo girls on the pole, food menu options since there weren't any and a few more screens for ESPN maybe?

Before I went I had looked this place up on Yelp and it had good reviews, so me and my friends decided to check it out. Upon arriving, I saw a fat chick in skin-tight clothing trying to pole dance outside...it was nasty I'm sorry.

Anyways, the structure of the place is cool since it has different rooms and stuff. The age group here was definitely mostly 25+ looking, not a place I'd recommend for college students. As for the music, I couldn't stand it. I couldn't seem to find the room where it played house/techno/trance. I went and asked the bartender, and he told me he thought it was upstairs. So very wrong. I took it that it was in the biggest room, so we migrated there for the night. It sucked.

The male dancers can really dance though, so props to them. What I really liked was that every guy that approached me asked me to dance and didn't just try to grab me.

Won't be back again unless I unexpectedly make a friend who loves this place.

Unique design (for San Antonio) that was reminiscent of a cross between Limelight (NYC 1990s) AND Webster Hall (NYC 1990s)? SOLD!

Various rooms with many themes, including a reggae room (which was oddly pretty empty LOL) and a room where the music videos on the screens reflected the songs playing in the speakers.

Great mix of every type of crowd (made me proud of Texas, despite not actually being from there), but have to admit the outlandish gay folk there couldnt compare with our gay community here (style-wise).

While this place had a mix of underage and overage, I didnt mind as much as I did at Club Rio.

Count me a patron every time I visit San Antonio.

I know what you're thinking- typical, right? Tricia writing a review of a gay club? Well f-you, I'm gonna DO IT anyways!

The Bonham is a half mile walk from my loft downtown- so I fear for the safety of my liver. Why? Because the best part of the Bonham is the drinks ARE CHEAP. I'm used to Austin prices and I can get  comfortably numb at the Bonham for a reasonable rate. Get it, girl!

There are multiple dance floors and levels for you to enjoy at the Bonham. Me and my girls went upstairs for an awesome hip hop party where I learned a new song in which the main word is f*ck. Cool by me!

The video bar/dance floor is really cool. I mean yes- there was a guy rolling on exstacy who was trying to "channel" the power from the TVs and throw me his "light orb". This just comes with the territory of being a gay club party girl. The music was insanely good- none of that queer as folk crap with no words. And people came to throw down.

The biggest group of people were down on the bottom floor, but it was too damn hot. I was sweating like a me in church, so I avoided it.

As others have mentioned, there's a lot of straight people, so ladies- you'll have a good time. I hate the cover charge ($5 for over 21), but I'll pay it for decent music. And let the minors know who's boss- if I fling open the bathroom door and hit you in the face, well girl, I'm just letting you know- I'm bossy.

I really enjoyed this club. Personally, I think this club plays the best music. If i remember correctly, there's 2 dance floors that play different music. One dance floor has a wall of tv's playing music videos and a male stripper. The other floor was much larger and much more crowded but that's because the music was better. The cover charge was pretty shitty. It's an 18+ club but its $20 if you're not 21, and then I think $5 if you're over 21. I'd go back again just because the music was good.

Funny enough, most of the straight clubs on SA suck because most straight people are divorced with 2 kids by 21, leaving the non breeders with the really fun club!!

The bonham is supposed to be a mixed club. I used to go with my gay roommate and we both would have a blast! Tv room has sexy stripper men. Upstairs looks like a high school gym with thug like straight people. Downstairs dance floor is banging music and be prepared to burn some calories.

Oh! Be prepared for the dumbass bible thinkers who stand outside and berate the people in line. Mostly preaching about gays going to hell and sinners burning. It's entertaining with the right crowd, but can also be downright annoying too!

I love the Bonham, even the fact that they let minors in doesn't ruin the experience. Three floors of dancing, male strippers, amazing music and dive bar prices. There is a $5 cover for anyone 21 and over but this is one of the few places where I don't feel like I'm getting ripped off. Just go in, bring your most comfortable heels and plan to dance all night long and be prepared to have sore calves tomorrow.

I've heard such great things about this place and was so disappointed to walk 1.5 mi out of my way for this crap.  True it was a Sunday but this did not justify the  rudeness form bartender bobby james.  $2 wells should never come with a shut up and a venting bartender.  I might have let it slide if its was a busy nite but when we are the only patrons, seriously.  Aside from the rudeness a member of our party was in a wheelchair and there was no handicap access to the bar...or excuse me as bobby james stated we do have access thru a door in the back but its locked.
The club looks like it does get happening on a Friday or Saturday but if u get such service on a slow nite what can u expect on the busy nites?....

This a gay club that doesn't mind your orientation either way, straight or gay. It's really a mix.

Three main rooms to dance in, one being a dance/eletronica pit, the first to your left a music video room with the current faves on the radio and male dancers, and the upstairs hiphop and rap.

$3 wells and free to adults before 10pm and during specials events they make the cover for minors $20 or so while adults are $5.
    Thank the lord!

Guidos, juiceheads, and short hemmed harlots occasionally come and have their sad "we're a group and party hard-y" moments, along with an occasional fight-cat or otherwise. But the sane out number those kind of idiots.

I will always come back! One of the bar lads in the lounge to the right of the entrance really knows how to make a great Italian margarita and make $5 worth it!

I'm straight, but LOVE this club. if your a homophobe, don't go.

Drinks are cheap. Service is good. Bathrooms are dirty but hey it's a club.

Pluses: Coat check, dance contest at midnight on Fridays (most entrees are drunk so it's a good show) tacos on the back patio, open until 4am, huge club with many different rooms/atmospheres, $1.50 well on Friday. I don't go much on Saturday, couldn't tell you.

negatives: line to get in if you're there too late or not at the right time.

Went with a couple friends on a Friday night to unwind and had a great time.  This place is friendly for everyone regardless of your sexual orientation.  There is plenty of space - three rooms on the main floor, one room upstairs, and a pretty big open space outside.

Dance floors: two main rooms that have a variety of music from top 40's to some techno/80's.  I'm sure you'll find a room with music you'll find fun. There is always plenty of dance space (upstairs, downstairs, on boxes) as well as seating areas for when you've danced your feet off.

My friends and I hanged out with the bartender Jeremey outside in the courtyard area, and that was pretty fun - everyone there had a good sense of humor and were very nice.

They also have events upstairs, so it's great that they engage the patrons.

Will be going back in the future.  Hope to see you there!

My friend Briana and I hit up the club with her brother and his friends and it was an amazing time. The music was the best - - - not one bad song played, if anything there were just songs I didn't love - - - (Then I heard who DJ was, DJ Swiss, and I was like of course the music is not gonna suck) and there was plenty of area to dance. I had a great night. Bonham Exchange, round 2? I don't doubt it one bit.

My partner and I are from Austin but were in San Antonio this week on vacation. We decided to check out Bonham on a Wednesday night. We figured it would be dead but the $1 drink special lured us out.  When we arrived we found out that only one of it's many bars was open since it was a week night. After settling in for a few drinks the staff was very hospitable. The door guy even took us on a tour of the historc building. A few of the locals took us in and we had a blast. We will be going back to Bonham.  Highly reccommended!!

At first glance this place seems awesome - great building and several dance floors with different styles of music. .I've had two experience with this club and both were negative. The bouncers were friendly but the rest of the staff was extremely rude.

The club has two types of music crappy trance techno in the room with the guys in the banana hammocks and crappy dance/overly synthesize hip hop in all the others.   As far as dancing goes, good luck. Drinks prices are okay but poorly prepared, poured, and presented. A lot of the rooms are way too smokey.

The first time was this summer for my friend, Rhi's 21st birthday. We arrived around 11p.m., so she had to pay the $20 dollar cover charge - Fair enough we were in a large group and there were several under 21's . A midnight Rhi tried to show the door lady her ID and explained that she just turned 21. The lady very rudely refused to give my newly 21 year old friend a wristband and yelled to her if she drank she would be thrown out.

My next experience was a couple weeks ago. The bar tenders were terrible. I sat waiting to buy a drink for 10 min while others who arrived after me were being served. Late on one of bartenders even picked up the tip jar put it two inches from my girlfriends face (that after she had to wait forever and was given a cup of ice with a splash of coke and no discernible amount of alcohol). So after a night of crappy music I go home to check my bank account to find i've had a 50 dollar charge on my account on top of what my drinks cost. I was pist. I'm a grad school student so 50 bucks is still a lot of money . I contacted them and they told me that my complaint was common and it was just the way their banking system works. They went on to rudely and presumptuously explain to me how I should not go to a club without more money in my account.  The charge took almost a week to remove itself. It may be just me but I find 50 dollar charge to make sure you pay excessive esp when you pay with a common card such as wells fargo or visa.

I have one question about this place.  Where are all the gays at?  Ha!  The last time I was here I think it was straight night, so my gay friend was kind of bummed there weren't a lot of cuties around.  There aren't too many bars around that have separate rooms and each room has its own personality. We still had a splendid time walking to the different rooms and shaking our ass in each part of the club.  I'm a big fan of this bar and love visiting when I'm in San Antonio.

I don't know why it took me so long to get here, but I'm eternally grateful I finally got around to it! Cheap, strong drinks, non-stop music, multiple rooms for attention deficit dancers, and the most laid-back crowd in town. Show up in a prom dress or pajamas--either way, nobody's judging!
This was the final stop on my little sister's downtown bachelorette party bar crawl, and the only worthwhile venue we visited. Upon arrival, she (sweet and innocent though she may be) instantly upgraded me from "slut" to "hobag", which I assume means she was pleased. Although she and a few of her more retiring girlfriends were frightened by the near-nekkid men in banana hammocks pole-dancing in the front room, we easily scored a platform in the packed back room and got groovy until last call. Last I checked, there's no cover before 10PM on the weekends, and well drinks are a DOLLAR on Wednesdays, making the Bonham a cost-effective option for total annihilation.

I like this club. Not fancy, not gay, not lame. Just good drinks, good prices and a really cool crowd. Feel sooo comfortable here. Love the different rooms. The music can get lame at times, but they place some good stuff eventually. Check it out if you're downtown.

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the Bonham.

Oh my goodness. Everytime my friends say "we're going to the Bonham" I must admit I roll my eyes and sigh a bit because I'm laid back and like hanging out with my friends when I go out. Everytime I feel this way it escapes me the moment I walk into the Bonham.

Waaaaaay too many places to dance. I always get caught up in the front room that I forget there's 12,000 other rooms to dance in. Everyone there is pretty chill and just wants to have fun, but there are always stupid people. The last time I went there was a fight that my friend had to throw me away from because I was about to get trampled. The music is regular club music but it's SOOO much fun. I, myself, love dancing with strange gay men and this place is the place to do it. I absolutely love this place.

Just about to date myself, the owners of this club once upon a time owned the dance club on St Marys street on the riverwalk called The Country.  When they were forced out in the early 80s, the Bonham Exchange was born.  Always a fun time in this huge danceteria/lounge/poolhall/showbar/patio place with something for everyone!  The sunken dance floor rivals any in the country and I have seen them coast to coast.  Stop in for a drink or stay for after hours dancing.

As the stars say "Yay! I'm a fan."  Like Gracie mentioned, there are several different rooms, with their own flair, and the staff is outstanding. We got there before 10, so there was no cover, and the crowds really didn't start showing up until around midnight. Drinks were cheap, and lots of fun was to be had. They do have an ATM on site, but I didn't find a ciggie machine anywhere...bummer.. I'm not normally a smoker but when I'm drinking and shaking it with the girls, it's nice to puff away. Bad me for not stopping for some on my way there, bad Bonham for not taking care of me once I was there.

Are you kidding me? I have to leave Phoenix and travel to San Antonio to find an urban, diverse, multi tiered club? Why, yes, in fact I do. Formerly a synagogue and now sinagogue, this club on Friday nights is da bomb. God. I can't believe I just wrote da bomb. Some things a 42 year old white man should not say. Anyway, $.75 drinks ALL night. Get crazy, avoid the lines and order a double. A whopping $1.50 and you're set for another 20 minutes! This place is HUGE. After all everything's bigger in Texas, remember. Please don't remind my San Antonio bf native of this. He tends to grab his belt buckle, bite his lip and give me a "How you doin'?" everytime this comes up. Music is different in each room and on each floor. Three levels, at least half a dozen bars, and a patio the size of the Ewing ranch. If you arrive before I believe 9 or 10, there's no cover. But also, no in and out privileges. I would love to see such a venue here in Phoenix. But, I'm happy to pack my bags and skeedaddle on down to Texas a few times a year. Where everything's bigger! OK, cut to Rickie smiling! Yee Haw yelpers.

I like the Bonham, I've had a lot of fun times there. The last time I went there though, I accidentally left my credit card at the bar and the group I was with drove back so I could get it. I had taken my wristband off, so I put it back on so I wouldn't have to wait or pay again. The lady let me in, but as soon as I started walking to the bar, some lady pulled me aside and asked to talk to me, she took me outside and took off my wristband and told the lady outside that it came off and I couldn't go back in. It happened so quick I didn't know what was going on. I had to explain to the lady letting people back in, that I just needed to get my card. She was nice and went in and got it for me, but I was kind of pissed off about the whole thing. I also e-mailed them later with a question about the card and never got a reply.

Besides all that, the Bonham can be super fun. It's a good idea to get there early so you don't have to pay a cover charge or wait in line. Drinks are cheap and tasty, and you should try a Starfucker if you've never had one. Bartenders are nice and remember you, and the music is always going. You will see male dancers in g-strings and gay couples making out, cause it's a gay club! So don't be freaked out, haha.

They have a video room, which I think is the most fun, and they play mostly current hits. There's another room upstairs that usually has hip hop and r&b, and another room with techno music and crazy lights. There's a smaller room across from the video room, I'm not sure if there's different music in there, but they have a bar in there and some couches.

This IS the place to be on a friday night if you're into the nightlife!
Great building, better choice in music than any other gay club in town. they have 4 rooms. Lines are long, entrace can be a little steep if you're under 21. Parking is something like 7 dollars, you can also park at the residence inn.
