Fried Zucchini
The flavors of the fried zucchini were balanced well: spices vs. breading. It was satisfying. Would I order it again? Sure.
Cesar Salads
My husband and I both ordered dinner-sized Cesar salads. We love Cesar salads and have tasted a variety of interpretations of the dressing. Some in the past had tasted anchovy-ish while others had more of an oniony or garlicy flavor--all of which have tasted great. The dressing on Bosco's Cesar salad was nothing like any Cesar dressing we have ever had. The dressing had lumps of something in it, which was different, but okay so long as it tasted good. The dressing tasted like that veggie dip people bring to parties that has little pieces of carrots, etc, in it. The base of the dressing seemed to be mayo, and it lacked flavor. They said they make the dressing in-house. I think they need to stick to more mainstream recipes for preparing Cesar dressing. In addition, the salad was about $11 and consisted only of the clumpy dressing, a few tiny croutons, and pieces of lettuce. That was one pricey bowl of lettuce and veggie dip. Would we order it again? Not at all.
Calamari Rings
My husband said they tasted good. He said he would probably order them again.
Ranch Dressing/Dip
It tasted as you'd expect ranch dressing to taste--good. We did find one long hair lying on the dressing, which we switched out for a new one. I suppose that stuff happens time to time.
Blonde Beer (on tap)
Very refreshing. Would order again!
Overall, I expected the food would be consistently decent with all of the positive reviews for Bosco's.. Maybe they do main dishes better than salads and appetizers?
My family and I rented a house last weekend in Sunol and stopped in at Bosco's for lunch on Saturday; I am so glad we did!
The menu was extensive and had an option for all 8 of us (Interestingly, it is NOT the menu that appears on the restaurant's website). I had the vegetarian sandwich (served with fries) - it was stuffed with eggplant, tomato, avocado, mozzarella, and sprouts. Furthermore, the prices are extremely reasonable. Our total bill for 8 people was $81, and all of us had at least one beer and a meal.
This brings me to the best part of Bosco's - the actual dog himself which sits on the bar and serves his Blond Ale. Absolutely refreshing on a warm spring day!
One more thing - the crowd was very eclectic - which made our visit all the more memorable. There were clearly other "weekenders" like us, some elderly locals, a family with 4 kids, bicyclists, and 2 biker guys. It gave the place such character.
We had such a memorable lunch here that I felt compelled to write this review - I use Yelp all the time and this place definitely deserves 5 stars!
I worked here... btw mike wasnt a manager... he was a really hard worker who took everyone's s@!?t...just a bartender... the owners work really hard and never take a day off.. most of the bad reviews are written by crazy people that have no Social grace and want the bartenders to tap dance for them for 50¢...or they are a party of ten or more without reservation..btw how can a martini be weak? its just shaken liquor..?
