Fried Zucchini
The flavors of the fried zucchini were balanced well: spices vs. breading. It was satisfying. Would I order it again? Sure.
Cesar Salads
My husband and I both ordered dinner-sized Cesar salads. We love Cesar salads and have tasted a variety of interpretations of the dressing. Some in the past had tasted anchovy-ish while others had more of an oniony or garlicy flavor--all of which have tasted great. The dressing on Bosco's Cesar salad was nothing like any Cesar dressing we have ever had. The dressing had lumps of something in it, which was different, but okay so long as it tasted good. The dressing tasted like that veggie dip people bring to parties that has little pieces of carrots, etc, in it. The base of the dressing seemed to be mayo, and it lacked flavor. They said they make the dressing in-house. I think they need to stick to more mainstream recipes for preparing Cesar dressing. In addition, the salad was about $11 and consisted only of the clumpy dressing, a few tiny croutons, and pieces of lettuce. That was one pricey bowl of lettuce and veggie dip. Would we order it again? Not at all.
Calamari Rings
My husband said they tasted good. He said he would probably order them again.
Ranch Dressing/Dip
It tasted as you'd expect ranch dressing to taste--good. We did find one long hair lying on the dressing, which we switched out for a new one. I suppose that stuff happens time to time.
Blonde Beer (on tap)
Very refreshing. Would order again!
Overall, I expected the food would be consistently decent with all of the positive reviews for Bosco's.. Maybe they do main dishes better than salads and appetizers?
My family and I rented a house last weekend in Sunol and stopped in at Bosco's for lunch on Saturday; I am so glad we did!
The menu was extensive and had an option for all 8 of us (Interestingly, it is NOT the menu that appears on the restaurant's website). I had the vegetarian sandwich (served with fries) - it was stuffed with eggplant, tomato, avocado, mozzarella, and sprouts. Furthermore, the prices are extremely reasonable. Our total bill for 8 people was $81, and all of us had at least one beer and a meal.
This brings me to the best part of Bosco's - the actual dog himself which sits on the bar and serves his Blond Ale. Absolutely refreshing on a warm spring day!
One more thing - the crowd was very eclectic - which made our visit all the more memorable. There were clearly other "weekenders" like us, some elderly locals, a family with 4 kids, bicyclists, and 2 biker guys. It gave the place such character.
We had such a memorable lunch here that I felt compelled to write this review - I use Yelp all the time and this place definitely deserves 5 stars!
I worked here... btw mike wasnt a manager... he was a really hard worker who took everyone's s@!?t...just a bartender... the owners work really hard and never take a day off.. most of the bad reviews are written by crazy people that have no Social grace and want the bartenders to tap dance for them for 50¢...or they are a party of ten or more without reservation..btw how can a martini be weak? its just shaken liquor..?
Review Source:First timer at boscos. It was referred to me by a friend it was pretty good for the most part. Chicken was great. The side veggies were salty and seemed like they were preserved for too long though.Atmosphere was nice because it takes u back in time. The crowd that was there was older (40's-60's) not to say that a younger crowd would not enjoy it. I plan on returning to try their steaks. Be forewarned that. The surrounding area is a bit vacant and can come across as a bit "middle of nowhere" esq but fear not- just go inside and enjoy
Review Source:It's really sad I have to give this lovely little place only one star.  My family and I used to come here for special occasion dinners.  Tonight was not pleasant and unfortunately we plan to not return.  While we were waiting there was a waiter who was very very Hurried and in a huge rush not really paying attention to his surroundings pushing pushing excuse me excuse me coming through.  It turns out he was our waiter for the evening.  Of six entrées only two tasted very good.  We were advised incorrectly what the vegetables were for the day and therefore requested that we not be charged at the end of the meal for the extra side order of Zucchini that was supposed to have been green beans.  The cioppino was good the salmon was good.  The steaks weren't very good at all.  Our chocolate mousse have gone bad and spoiled, so after the second bite we stopped eating it.  This was the consensus of our table as we weren't  quite sure what was wrong with it and just determined it had spoiled.  We were offered a fresh brand-new batch of mousse but we declined.  One big complaint was that a waiter took our food away before we had told him it was time to.  In fact he stated out loud I guess you're done with this and took it away - he asked but did not wait for an answer. Â
We love this place but since we were already disappointed with her meal I walked around and noticed that each booth had cracked seating. Â The women's restroom stall door was broken and pieces of it were lying on the floor. Â Some sort of alarm that look like a fire alarm bell was also taken apart and lying on the floor near the entrance to the bar. Â I respect small businesses and hope this place lives on but unfortunately I'm not sure it's going to do so.
We certainly considered seaking to the manager about these issues but my father told me that he had discussed some items with the manager behind the bar and he did not seem interested so we did not bring the rest of these complaints to the attention of the establishment before we left.
They had a help wanted sign in the window so if you are an amazing service person and want to help turn this place around - go in for an interview.
Stumbled upon Bosco's after taking the train ride to Sunol. Â Stopped in for a local microbrew, hung around awhile talking to Mike the bartender who is a NICE GUY, and discussing the local beer scene and where to go, since I was playing tourist.
I enjoyed my brief visit and enjoyed my Das Brew IPA, which I did not know about after reading about other local brews. I can't give it 5 stars since I didn't eat there, but what I saw looked good. Â Next year Mike!
I stopped by Bosco's today. Under new management again...yet it's their old manager there-- before they went "under new managment" the first time. ?OK?.....
Their refrigerator was broken so they had NO drafts. Zero. The bartender took 5 minutes to serve me a beer and he wasn't doing anything. He had 2 customers, and he wasn't serving them either. He would walk up and ask if he could get me something and walk away. He did this 4 times. No joke. I ask for a draft, he say no drafts and walks away. He comes back and I ask what he has in bottles. He tells me, then walks away before I can say anything. What? I'm thinking "Just stay still and take my order! No one is here!" I heard him say "whatever" to his co-workers when they talked to him. He was not very friendly. The food here is generally edible yet flavorless. Might as well have a Bologna sandwich, it will be more exciting for your taste buds. I didn't try the new $2 lunches. I think I'd rather take my chances with a happy meal from McDonald's. Cost a little more, but I'd find it more trustworthy than eating here.
Should be a fun spot. But evidently, the rep has gotten out. No one here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Why? Food not worth the fat and cholesterol, let alone $$. The bar manned by jerks. The last time I was here, it was benign neglect. This time, outward hostility. I asked the barkeep for the wifi password. "you assume it is free, don't you?". "yeah, I do. It isn't?". "Naw, just messin' with you, but I wouldn't ask you for your password.". Don't know what that even means. Anyway, he gave me a password that to no surprise, didn't work.
Not a lot of options in Sunol, but if you can hang on, you should.
The last time I dined at this location was over a decade ago. Long gone are the alligator appetizers and yummy prime rib. The one thing that is the exact same was the decor and Bosco. When we entered the restaurant last night, we were immediately asked if we wanted to have the buffet. I noticed a hand written note on the table saying cash only and buffet $10. I thought what the heck and we had the buffet. The lighting was so dark most people were having to lift the food toward the light to see what it was. Nothing was hot. One of the waitresses tasted the food with her fingers and walked in the back. She hadn't washed her hands before coming back out to deliver more food and drinks. Most items were fried and tasteless. When we received our check, we were only charged for the drinks and not the buffet as the front had neglected to take the money from us when we came inside. So, we were honest and returned the check. When it was returned, the math was incorrect and taxes not listed. Again, sent back. Additionally, they didn't know if there was an ATM around.
the bathrooms had no toilet paper and the faucet handles were falling off in my hand. Lastly, the doors to the bathroom didn't have locks and a poor disabled woman was stuck on the toilet as an unsuspecting woman opened the door on her.
I feel badly giving this establishment such a poor rating since last night was their grand opening, but they really need to step up their game if they want to survive.
Awesome karaoke night with great people from all walks of life. Extremely welcoming clientele and staff. Happened to be there for someone's birthday and everyone in the place was offered champagne for a toast and some cake. My crew were all newbies but were welcomed and treated like regulars. If I'm ever in Sunol for whatever reason I hope to get back and maybe eat this time.
Yes, there's a stuffed Bosco behind the bar that doubles as a beer tap. Â Wish I had a picture of that. Â Gotta see it to believe it.

Some nights there is no music playing, other ambient music, others nights Karaoke, and still other nights there is a band in the bar portion of this place. Check the website so you know what kind of ambiance is that night. Bar part is divey, Resto side is more intimate and romantic.
We came to the Saloon on Sunday afternoon because the Railroad Cafe was closed for the day. At 3:30 in the afternoon the bar was pretty packed and it seemed like they were all locals. As a result, we had a hard time getting some service because the bartender was busy with drink orders at the bar.
The Saloon was pretty dark and it looked like there was a small stage in the corner. There was an entire wall of people dressed up in old western attire. Some were sitting around playing cards, others were drinking and laughing, etc. It was kind of weird, but interesting.
I ordered a bowl of their clam chowder and split an order of garlic bread with a friend. When the waitress brought out our chowders, she forgot to give us napkins and it took us a while to get her attention so that we could ask for some. Those of us who had the clam chowder noticed that it had a bit of a sour taste to it, which was very unusual. The chowder had huge chunks of clams in it and was nice and creamy, but I couldn't get over the sour taste.
Our order of garlic bread came with some dipping sauce. I assume it is marinara, but it seemed a little too watered down to me and it wasn't red it was more of a dark orange.
The food is decent and the serivce is just ok. Next time we'll be sure to finish our bike ride before 3pm so we can go to the Railroad Cafe instead.
Whenever I drive through Sunol again, I'll be sure to come back.
On a scenic drive through the Niles Canyon Road, on our way to Livermore, we popped in to Bosco's for a drink and a snack. Â You can tell Boscos has been around for a long time. Â It's split into two halves, restaurant and saloon, we frequented the saloon half. Â
It was fun to look at the pictures of Willi Nelson hanging out at the bar on the wall, right next to one of his guitars. Â There was also a large display of local brands (like from branding irons, that ranchers used to identity their cattle) as a large show piece in the Bar room. Â There's a tiny little stage in the back corner faced with several small drinking tables, which I'm guessing are easily enough pushed out the way to make room for a cozy dance floor. Â It was Sunday and the bar was packed with regulars watching NFL.
The staff was super friendly. Â They had Speakeasy IPA on tap. Â (Which used to always surprise me, but now is becoming more and more common, yet even so the popularity of this beer can't take away from it's deliciousness)
We ordered fried calamari and pot-stickers (a bar snack special), and both were delicious.  The Calamari was breaded thick and fried like a piece of cod, which made for a hearty snack, served with rémoulade and cocktail sauce.  The pot-stickers were tiny and delicious.
As we were finishing up, a waiter swung by each table and dropped off a plate of complimentary fried potato skins. Â He didn't offer much explanation but as far as I can tell, they didn't want their peeled potato skins (likely discard while peel potatoes to mash) to go to waste. Â This was not only a pleasant surprise, but also a unique potato skin adventure. Â (Yes, I just typed potato skin adventure). Â Essentially these irregularly shaved thin potato skins with a peeler no doubt, were fried, topped with cheddar and bacon, and served with sour cream. Â These were clearly the highlight because they were so crispy they were almost like french fries, but they were mostly skin, which is my favorite part of a potato.
Thanks Boscos for showing us your hospitality! Â I can see more trips to Sunol in my future!
I finally made it here! I've been eye-balling Bosco's for years, and finally last week on a whim, my momma and I hit this place for lunch because WHY NOT!? I was immediately charmed by the interior and the signs reading "Elegant dining of the 1800s." OK, I'm willing to pretend I'm in a different century. Let's do it.
We were seated in one of the big, cozy booths, and there was only one other table in the restaurant (three little old ladies in red Christmas sweaters, darling). The menu isn't huge, but huge doesn't always equal good. They had several pescatarian-friendly options and vegetarian options too. I got the eggplant parmesan, which turned out to be quite tasty. It came with a side of veggies that were cooked just right. And for $10.95 it also came with soup or salad. Not a bad lunch deal (especially since I took half of it home for lunch the next day).
It was all quite a pleasant experience, my only "complaint" might be slow service. There didn't seem to be many people working, but then again, it was a slow day, too. We just found ourselves waiting to order and waiting for the check for a long time. But water was refilled regularly and service itself was just fine. The chef even came out to help take our orders and tell us about the specials.
I popped my head into the bar (or rather, "saloon") side of the establishment and was surprised to see it somewhat full. So perhaps that explained the slower service. I almost feel like if I went back, it might be fun to sit in the bar. It looked like people were eating over there too. And besides, I've got to return sometime to order a beer from Bosco the dog.
I have never ventured out to Sunol before - so my honey and I decided to do lunch here this past weekend.
It was mid-afternoon on a Sunday so there wasn't many people there. We were seated promptly and looked over the menu. It has sandwiches, salads, soups & entrees. I ordered the Clam Chowder to start - it was creamy and delicious. However, my two stars is for the Fish & Chips. While I am a big fan of fish & chips, these were very disappointing. The batter tasted like tempura-style, but it was soggy and the fish had no flavor. The only thing I liked about my plate were the fries. My honey had a round steak that he enjoyed as well as a cup of broccoli soup.
If I did come back, I would definitely order a meat item or a sandwich. Those fish & chips made me lose my appetite - which doesn't happen very often :(
There's nothing exciting or imaginative about their menu, but that's ok. The menu has something for everyone, what I would call "standards".
I would expect that without a large menu or even any dishes that are really challenging, that what they do offer would be done right. The food is good, not great or anything, just good.
I had the chicken oscar, chicken with a mushroom sauce and crab. The chicken was tender, the sauce was flavorful, just not enough crab! There was like a tablespoon of crab. $21.95 for chicken, mushrooms, and only a tablespoon of crab!
The service was good, there was barely anyone there. Only 3 of about 12 tables were being used, mostly couples. The food came out fast.
It's a nice drive through niles canyon, but I don't think it was a good value for the price.
If you ever have a chance to visit tiny Sunol, don't blink or you'll miss it, then you will enjoy a daytime steam train ride on the Niles Canyon railroad, which you can catch from either Sunol or Niles.

After the 75 minute train ride, it is time for a little food and drink. Although Sunol only has but one or two options, we elected to try Bosco's for lunch on a Sunday. When I saw that they offered a french dip sandwich on the lunch menu, I was like ok, it could be yum. Upon entering this cozy little eatery, seating was rapid and so was the service. The booths are wide and large enough to seat four. The place was clean and service was good.
The food was served promptly and I have to say that the french dip sandwich and fries were wonderful. Since i am a french dip fan in general, I was quite pleased with both the quality and price for this tasty sliced prime rib sandwich. I am also a fan of good root beer and tried the Railroad brand and enjoyed it much.
I will certainly be back just for the sandwich!
My dog Bosco. Â What's not to love about this place. Â It sits in a great location and is a great stop to grab a burger and a brew on a hot day when your out for that ride on the Harley.
It's always a pleasure to see dear old Bosco at the bar too. Â Gotta love the fact that the ex-mayor himself serves you a beer.
I highly recommended seeing this place. Â If not for a beer or food, just to check out Bosco and the quaint little town of Sunol.
I think Bosco's must have changed owners, because it went from pretty decent to absolutely awful. Â
We were there for a family dinner of about 15 people. Â We started in the bar and that's where things got started off on the wrong foot. Â The bar was mostly full of what appeared to be regulars. Â I gathered that from their banter with one another and with the tattooed, a**-crack-showing bartender. Â Aforementioned bartender chose to ignore me for nearly five minutes, while she took drink orders from people who walked up to the bar after I did. Â
The rest of the fam arrives and we are seated in the back. Â We were the only large party there at the time, but only had one server. Â This poor kid was so incompentent, it was ridiculous. Â It took forever for water to arrive, took forever to get our drinks, bread arrived without butter, took forever for butter to get there. Â Somone in our party actually got up and got the water and extra utensils themselves after asking for them from our server and a passing busser and still not receiving either one after ten minutes. Â
It went downhill once we ordered. Â The salad was pathetic. Â Some lettuce dumped on a plate with a few garbanzo beans, shredded carrots and tiny croutons sprinkled about. Â I ordered sauteed sole for the entree. Â There was no mention of breading or a sauce in the description, but when it arrived, yup - breaded and drowned in a butter/cream sauce. Â My husband ordered the rib-eye and said it was below average. Â Which it should not have been for the price. Â
I wouldn't come back. Â Awful, truly awful.
Ive been there a couple times lately. Â
Got the French Dip both times.
the first time my fries were burnt but my sandwich was pretty good... Â Until I was almost done and noticed a long ass hair on my plate. Â I was pretty bummed, but just tried to block it out and didnt say any thing.
The second time it was really good with no hairs, so that was a bonus.
Will I go back? Â
Sure, its better than average food and a really cool vibe in the bar area both times I was there. Â The locals and bartenders seem very nice.
LOVE IT!!! How have I not heard of this place til now???? Awesome! Safe! Western Saloon Styling! Live country music.! Good crowd. Great Food! Plenty of Parking and just a great environment to sit and enjoy good drinks with great prices and a super free n easy feeling....
LIVE COUNTRY MUSIC!!! I love it!!! Will make it a regular stop!!!
Great place! Â We met T, the lovely, tattooed bartender when we were out one night, and we decided to drop in to check this place out. Â Great food, friendly service, and welcoming environment!
When we walked into the saloon, T greeted us with a couple of bevies at the bar. Â We ordered calamari and oysters on the half shell, which came out quickly, and we snacked on our apps while T was called to the stage. Â Apparently, every Thursday is kareoke night, and even the staff is encouraged to sing with the regular patrons. Â What a voice! That girl can sing!
After a few more drinks, our growing appetite was ready for some real food. Â The suggested Lamb shank special was so tender that the meat just fell off the bone. Â the sauce was an amazing garlic-tomato gravy, which went well with the mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. Â The cup of clam chowder that came with the meal was tasteful, creamy, and so good my boyfriend ordered a bowl of his own. Â
Aside from the great food, the service was quick, friendly, and personable. Â T cracked jokes about the beer that poured out of the dog, whose leg happens to be the tap! Â The owner George greeted us personally and chatted with us about how Bosco's came to be over a round of Tang Drops.
We definitely recommend coming to this amazing find and will absolutely be back again. Thanks for the good time guys! :)
Bosco's has dive bar written all over it, and I LOVE IT!!! Â My boyfriend and I came here on a spotaneous outing to check out the beer pouring stuffed dog (aka Mayor Bosco). Â No joke! Â You'll have to visit this place to get the whole history behind it. :)
We came here on a good night because the live band TNT was awesome!  Great oldies and cover songs, and the group was just a ton of fun!  Their version of the B 52's Love Shack was dead on!  The crowd was ... interesting.  What definitely made the night was the  dude busting out moves that looked like the African Ant Eater Ritual!  If you've seen "Can't Buy Me Love", you know what I'm talking about!  Here's a video recap:  <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DbxIrQPffSIg&s=8c8d0e16e601a2bdfb90b8e3b9204a5bf2ed73c456f9a970f1333ac160b8b4d9" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/w…</a>  :D
Hilarious!
What tops off the 4 star rating is the fact that they pour a mean citron & soda for $6. Â I welcome any bar that can serve cheap strong drinks! Â Definitely come here if you're looking for a chill and fun place to get your drink on and show off your dance moves!
We really liked the live music and relaxed atmosphere.  The service was good  for drinks and snacks.  We will go back next time a bit earlier to have a diner before meeting friends for drinks. Â
We saw great blues band the night we were there: The Blues Bottle Band. Â People seemed to have great time. Â We danced and the floor was packed by the second set. Â
I also liked the "Western Saloon" decor in the bar/dining area.
Meh. I spent $120 here for their Fathers Day Brunch. I was sad as I had hoped for really awesome food and a great time. The food was either overcooked (from the Bunsen burners) or the stuff like the shrimp, salad dressing, salad, etc..was not put on ice and was room temp.
The pasta looked as though it had sat for hours, calamari was like rubber bands and the desserts were 3 different kinds of store bought pies. ((shrugs)).
I've heard a-lot of great things about this place, but I truly feel like I did in no way get my moneys worth. The meat station was the only thing that was "par" and they charged $6.00 per mimosa! (its a shot of champagne and OJ for crying outloud).
I'll check out their saloon and maybe an appetizer or two in the future..but for anyone who is considering their brunch, you might as well go to Hometown buffet, they serve the same food and it's actually good for 1/2 the amount I spent at this place.
This was near the end of our wine tour and while I wish I could remember more, I can't.
I remember:
My friend asking the hostess if Bosco was still around. Â She replied, "Yes,..well - he's in the bar. Â Do you want to meet him?" Â Little did we know (as we were following her), she was talking about a taxidermied dog (it's actually just a fancy stuffed animal but still really weird). Â They turned him into a beer tap. :O
Being fascinated with the Country Bear Jamboree type circular stage, complete with red velvet curtains (We ate in the area where the bar is).
Our waiter graciously bringing us an entire pitcher of water when he had already had to replenish our glasses 2+ times.
I ordered a plate of fried stuff...yea..I was drinking. It was pretty good. Â
They had a hand written drink menu behind the bar and one of the specials was a "panty dropper".
The architecture is incredible. Â They just don't make buildings anything like this anymore. Â
Check it out!
There are pluses, & minuses.
To begin with a plus: the oysters are fresh (but smell them anyway), tasty & reasonably priced. The meat (when they have it) is cooked as ordered. In other words: medium rare is medium rare. Watching Bosco pour a beer is always amusing.
The minuses- call before you go! If you want oysters- make sure they came in fresh, & they have them when you arrive. Why is this my 'negative point?)
Valentines Day- they were out of prime rib
St. Patrick's Day- they were out of corned beef (yup- out & we had reservations for 8)
April 4- they were out of veal.
The bar has some things to be desired: the drink pours are not consistent. Either way too much alcohol (sometimes that is possible) , other times, not enough. & bartender: would it be so tough to sometimes wipe the glass after the beer has pour all over it... really over poured.
Side of the road, tie your horse up, and eat. Â Bosco will pee in your glass and it's a good thing!
During our Livermore wine tour, we made our lunch stop here. Â We skipped the dinning room and opted for the bar. Â Interesting bar. Â That's where Bosco is these days. Â The wall of local brands ( ranchers hot iron brands) along with some pictures of long ago, was probably the best parts for me. Â The "oldtime" wall mural print from not long ago was something to look at over and over as food disappeared. Â The food was pretty good for my taste and worth the asking price.
Remember this one word: Â interesting.
Bosco the Dog was once elected mayor of Sunol. Bosco is no longer with us, but a stuffed replica has been formed into a beer tap, functioning just like, well, a dog would function.
This is really all you need to know about this fine establishment.
Otherwise, you'll find standard American fare served in an old-fashioned roadhouse/whistlestop atmosphere. Aim for the crispy fried, the beefy, or the cheesy, and wash it down with a beer. Fast and attentive service make for a friendly spot in a quiet corner of the Tri-Valleys.
My family wanted to celebrate my birthday with dinner out - had a drink in the bar several months ago - so decided to give it a go.
I had read that the original owners had sold the place so did have second thoughts. When we walked in on a Saturday night - the place was desserted. The hostess at the front wore a kitchen helpers shirt and was very disinterested in us as she led us past the three booths that were in use and seated us in the rear (we had a party of eight).
The place is decorated very nicely in a turn of the century motif, is clean and quite attractive. The menu is diverse and has is priced accordingly.
We brought in our own wine ($10 corkage) and ordered apps and dinner.
Service was a tad slow - only 15 dinners in a restaurant seating 100+ - the apps we ordered were OK - give them 3-1/2 stars - but dinner was disappointing.
I ordered cioppino - large amounts of edible seafood in tomato soup! My daughter-in-law ordered a filet and after leaving she said: "my steak was not a filet." I chastised her for not mentioning this while we were dining - Â she didn't eat all of it and when we got home - it was a piece of sirloin cut out to mimic a filet - what a low blow.
We did wander into the bar after dinner - they had a jazz rock trio that was pretty good and the bar looked great - especially Bosco - but alas - we will not return here - too many other choices now in Livermore and Pleasanton.
This used to be our favorite and best kept secret fun place to go have a great tender juicy quality steak dinner without having to brave a nasty chain place...not any more!!!
The original owners must have sold the place! We went there several months ago with out of town guests...and man was our face red! While the western homey theme was the same as before......the beef was a disaster! Pitiful place for the new owners to save money as Bosco's was well known in the past for it's great beef dinners!
If the prices had been lowered to match the lower quality beef...well then maybe...but the prices were high.
Perhaps it was just a bad night, but all four of us ordered differently and no one was happy with their choice.
I am so sad to loose yet another of the few good places to eat in our area!
Living in Sunol, this is the only place in town you can get dinner, so we have gone there many times. My husband always gets the Cioppino - it is fresh, full of several kinds of seafood and a huge portion. I like the stuffed portobello (heart attack waiting to happen - but I can't resist it's cheesy deliciousness)  and the chicken parmigiana. The prime rib is  fantastic.
Portions are fairly big, with a choice of homemade minestrone or a salad on the side.
I have yet to  try the dog / beer other folks raved about, but it sure sounds fun!
This past Sunday, Bosco's proved itself to be more than just a saloon with a stuffed dog. They were great in getting everything together to host a 60 people buffet lunch in their banquet room with VERY short notice.
I called three weeks ago to look into taking my car club here (or to the Sunol Cafe) for lunch. At the time, I had only about 30 people signed up on the event. BB&B said no problem, our lunch room seats 40 people. The person I talked to didn't take my name or number down and I thought that was a little strange.
Well, this past Friday, I found out that I was going to have about 60 people attending the event! I quickly called Bosco's and they forwarded me to their banquet coordinator, Michelle. She told me that they already had two parties planned for Sunday and wouldn't be able to accomodate us. Also, we couldn't take the main dining room because there wouldn't be enough service staff on such short notice. I explained my situation and she said she would call me back.
She called me back in about 10 minutes and said she could do a buffet style lunch in their banquet room. At $15.95/person + tax/tip = $20.43/person for 50 people, she listed off an extensive menu that was good for a wide range of palattes. I said I would take it because I didn't really have much choice and put down a 10% deposit.
We got there around noon and they were ready for us in 20 minutes or so. The banquet room was chilly but warmed up in time.
The menu was great and everyone said they really liked the food. Shrimp and fried calamari were some of the items along with a variety of entrees and fruit and dessert. They also refilled a lot of the items almost as we were leaving.
Our group was able to get in and out of there in about an hour or so and that was key. We still had an afternoon of driving to do.
I wouldn't mind going back and hanging out in the saloon for lunch on a lazy weekend.
Love the dead dog on the bar!! This bar definitely has a history.
Lunch was packed with people and so was the bar.
Great western Saloon ambience, service was excellent
Parking can be in front of the Saloon and across of the street!
Great hidden jewel of downtown Sunol. Take a short trip through Niles on 84. Â I believe this place has been around for a while.. so I am surprised that not many East Bay yelpers has heard of it.
Cool dining experience.. If you are looking for something different, I would definitely recommend this place. and dont forget to check out the dead dog!
Loving the drive through Niles Canyon is just one perk to going to Bosco's. Â The sandwiches are great: best French Dip around. Â Any Italian item can be hit & Â miss as the new owners are Asian and can't really get a grasp on tomato sauce. Â Honestly, most everything on their menu is really good except for their Italian items. Â Try the Clam Chowder!!!
Sit in the bar, check out "Bosco Brew"...ask the bartender. Â They will happily show you Bosco's trick.
