Yep. Was just about to say how far to the bottom...but the barrel doesn't have a bottom. This is my first visit here. Ever. This is my last visit here. Ever. Ten people in the bar. Took the bar tender(s) over 10 minutes to acknowledge us. This was after serving all the locals and taking their own shots behind the bar as we watched. I can't say I wasn't warned. Â I would get this bar zero stars but that's not an option.
Review Source:It's a sketchy dive bar in Benicia. No frills, no gimmicks. They have TONS of room, two pool tables, and a bar area that is separate from the bar. The juke box plays all kinds of different music ( a plus in my book), and they play it loud (that is a plus as well). Only had beer - prices are alright, wouldn't call it cheap for a dive bar. Maybe their mixed drinks are cheaper.
If I'm looking to stay close to home and play pool, I would probably come here. Otherwise, no thanks!
I have been coming here for years.. To the person saying they charged a extra $10 on your card, they have a $20 minimum on CCD's which they tell you. Or were you to drunk to know what you signed? Â They are honest, and do not steal from patrons.
The drinks are never weak, the Bartenders are all nice. You can play pool, listen to juke box, or watch one of many big screens with whatever sporting event is on.
Are you hungry? They have menu's from many places that will deliver there, including the chinese place upstairs.
They have no beer on tap, but pleanty of choices in bottle or can.
Prices are good, and if you are in Benicia, there is a FREE Bar hopper that will pick you up and take you there or take you home!
ok, so let me preface this review by saying that i do not typically drink in benecia or this area. i went there with a couple of local buddies of mine. and i was thoroughly impressed. awesome service and very attentive bartender. she was helpful and quite adorable.
dive-y type bar, but very clean and orderly.
i will definitely visit again when in the area to visit my buddies.
Affectionately called "Bottom of the Filth" by locals you can't help but enjoy yourself there. Â Jukebox, pool cheap drinks. Â Spacious, smoking area, surprisingly clean bathrooms there is nothing not to like. Â Everything is fantastic except one very short female bartender with a long ponytail not sure if she still works there. Â There is something wrong with her. Â she is unnecessarily rude and aggressive.
Review Source:Luckily for me, everywhere I go in Benicia makes me love Benicia even more. Â I didn't think it could actually keep getting better until Friday night. Â My cousin and I enjoyed some wine at The Chill on 1st Street, but we were in the mood for something more casual, and the music from Choices across the street made us hope we actually had some...choices that is. Â Fortunately there was a rough-and-tumble, tattooed gentleman sitting next to me that claimed he was from Benicia. Â So I asked him if he knew of any dive bars. Â He told us to go to Bottom of the 5th, and if I could send that man a thank you card, I would. Â We had such a great time there! Â The two bartenders were great! Â They were attentive without being pushy and were hilarious! Â The other patrons were great, too, and that's a sign of a good bar. Â Our tab was more then reasonable, and what we ordered would have been easily 3 times that in Tahoe. Â So if you're ever wondering where to find me, you know where to look!
In a nutshell, here's what I love about Bottom of the 5th:
-it's casual
-it's a sportsbar (and caters to SF Giants fans)
-it has pool tables
-great bartenders
-great prices
-nice patrons
-plenty of stools and standing room
-clean, functional bathrooms
-outside area for smokers
I'm writing this in the heat of the moment. And by heat I mean stink. And by stink I mean bottom of the fifth. So not only did i meet a bunch of locals here, but i met like half of the people from my housing complex. They serve beer, shots and have pool. WHAT ELSE CAN YOU ASK FOR. They had skate videos on the entire time, which is like 2+ stars. This place is legit. If you can't hang, then you don't belong.
Review Source:Having grown up in Vallejo dive bars, let me tell you this place is a treat.
This place gets a good review from me for 3 reasons (some of which may not sway other patrons in the same manner):
#1 - You can order food from upstairs and eat it in the bar. Â Specifically you can order Salt and Pepper Chicken from upstairs and eat it in the bar. Â I think you can probably order other things, but I can't for the life of me imagine why you would order anything but Salt and Pepper Chicken. Â This may not seem like much, but there is something awesome about having a cocktail, eating some Salt and Pepper Chicken and knocking around a few pool balls.
Which brings me to #2...
#2 Â It's the only place to play pool in Benicia. Â The Pastime is now The Rellik. Â Cliff's is gone. Â No more Sundowner. Â This is it. Â The tables aren't in great shape, but they are playable. Â The bar hosts an 8-ball tournament every Thursday. Â If playing pool is a thing for you, then you can't find a better place in town. Â No really. Â You can't.
#3 Â I live 2 blocks away. Â Thus it is within stumbling distance. Â Very important.
What about the drinks or the service, you ask?
The bartenders are fun and they are attentive. Â The drinks are reasonably priced. Â
I'm a tequila lover, and I will say that my one complaint is the lack of top-shelf tequila. Â Ah well, can't win em all.
All in all, I'm happy to be a regular there.
I saw the only review of this place and I had to respond...
First off, the reason they have cheap booze is so you can have cheap cocktails. I dare you to find another bar in the bay area where you can get a beer, shot or cocktail for 3 dollars. And you know what I do when I don't want what is in the well? I pay an extra 50 cents for Jim Beam. I like that they dont put a gallon of mixer in with it.
This is a fun atmosphere with alot of locals and 5 HD flatscreens to watch any sport you want. Sundays are great because the bartenders will put any game on you like.
They have the only pool tables in two and have pool tournaments every Thursday night.
If you want a relaxed place with a good jukebox and a fun laid back atmosphere, this is your spot.
More like bottom of the barrel. Â I've been here three times - enough to honestly determine whether or not i've given this place a fair shake. Â
They have several pool tables, none of which I've ever seen anyone use. Â The drinks are small, over priced and made with the cheapest booze you can find. Â If you like your cocktails to result in a headache - stop in for a drink. Â I swear I saw old Jed in the back syphoning moonshine into bottles. Â Joking, but serious. Â
I gave them two generous stars because I did have a mudslide shot that did not result in a cheap vodka headache and because it's conveniently located on the street i use to get to my destination after crossing the bridge in high winds and need a shot to take the edge off.
I am on a quest to find a better watering hole in Benicia :-)
