Pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of the food.
French onion soup was SOO delicious and there are plenty of cheese. Their hot wings are HUGE, delicious and has a kick to it. Personally, my favorite was the cajun pasta dish. I ordered the fried fish sandwich (which is HUGE also), but the past dish totally sold the place for me. The pasta is cooked perfectly, and the sauce was spicy yet not overpowering. YUM!!!!
My friend and I had an online deal printed so we ate here on a whim, but I would definitely come back to try other stuff. The place was not too loud and we went Thursday for dinner.
I went here July 9th with my family for my 26th birthday and we were lucky enough to have my sister, Allison Morrow, as our waitress. The bleu cheese medium rare burger I ordered was delicious as was the Hurricane I drank down in under 20 minutes. My brother's jumbalaya pasta was yummy & a bit spicy and though I was too full at that point to try the ribs my mom ordered their presentation made it hard to resist.
Allison was very attentive in addition to being very cute. If you ever go to Bourbon Street ask for the cute blonde (my sister) to be your waitress, you will not be disappointed!
We came here on a Sunday night and it happens to be open mic night. Some of the singers were terrible, and we were placed in a room next to them. It was too loud and noisy, not a place to bring a date!
The service was alright. Our waitress seemed kinda grumpy though.
We ordered mussels for appetizer, those were okay, a little on the mushy side. Then I ordered Murphy's Pasta. OH MY GOD, I have NEVER seen so much oil / butter on the bottom of my pasta plate before. It was disgusting, I immediately lost my appetite after that. My boyfriend ordered some gumbo dish, and the sauce was so thick and salty.
Definitely will not be coming back here again.
Came here two times. Â First time was for drinks, which was a sobering experience to say the least. Â Second time was for lunch, since it was one of the maybe 5 places open on the Bell Blvd strip.
Once we stepped into Bourbon street, we were greeted right away by the bartender, and some of the tipsy patrons. Â We chose to sit the the smaller dining area. Â After checking into Yelp, I noticed a $15 for $30 deal, which I asked the server if I could use. Â Took a little bit of time but the manager came over and said it would be fine. Â For an app we had the N'Awlin's Spicy Pork Wings. Â Which came out pretty quickly and tasted delicious to me, but it could also be cause it was 3pm and my first meal of the day...
I ordered the Ossobuco special and my gf ordered the southern fried chicken sandwich special. Â Apparently by special they mean especially bad... Â I ate all the fries. Â The Ossobuco, well i took it to go, rinsed it off and gave it to my dog. Â It was overcooked, parts were burnt and well tasted quite salty. Â The Southern Fried chicken sandwich apparently was overcooked and dry. Â I think it's a safe bet to say Bourbon street is only good for drinks, maybe even apps. Â Lunch came out to over $60 which included 3 beers. Â Not great but not the best. Â Good thing there was the Yelp deal cutting my bill by $15...
Bourbon Street Café introduced me to two things in 2010: Groupon and Bell Blvd. I have never been to the popular Bell Blvd before and it was my very first time buying a Groupon. I bought my very first Groupon on the phone and then asked my husband to join me at the Bourbon Street Café. Parking is always difficult along Bell Blvd since there are no spaces and the parking spots are metered.
I came to this restaurant on a weekday, but when I went into the restaurant, the hostess told me that there would be a half hour wait. Immediately, I had an impression that this must be a really great restaurant since I have to wait for a table during weekdays. There was a bar directly in front of the entrance and I remember staring at an arcade machine to pass the time. There was nowhere to sit during my wait and I was getting tired.
I noticed the rooms were divided by the bar, a middle room, and another room after that. I sat in the middle room. Our server was polite during our stay. I don't remember what meals we ordered, but I remember that the food was mediocre. The portions were fairly large though and I ended up having to take the rest of my food home.
The problem now is that when it was time to use the Groupon, our server had to take my husband's Iphone to the back room in order to scan it and write down the Groupon number. He had a problem scanning it and came back twice, trying to scan it. I was very confused because the Groupon wasn't being accepted. Finally, a manager came by and told us that there was a problem with Groupon and that we had to pay full price for the meal and then deal with Groupon to get our money back. I was so confused since I already paid for the Groupon. After a while going back and forth with the manager, I became upset and embarrassed. The manager had to call another manager on the phone and we found out that the equipment to scan the Groupon wasn't set up yet and the Groupon could not be used until the day after I bought it. Still, more than a half hour later, the manager acted like she did me a huge favor by offering the same deal as the Groupon now even though she reiterated that she wasn't supposed to and we paid the leftover balance. Of course, I was grateful for that, but her whole attitude about the whole thing was off-putting.
I was embarrassed, but not enough to be mad at the restaurant for the miscommunication until I left the restaurant. The same female manager was on a smoke break with one of her employees and she started telling me how the other manager was the one who set up the Groupon so she wasn't familiar with it and she's not responsible for it. Then, in a casual tone, she told me that if I have any problem with the situation, I should just go complain to Groupon and not the restaurant. She kept drilling it in my head that it was not the restaurant's fault. Of course, I had no problem complaining to Groupon, which I eventually did, but the fact that the manager was dusting off all responsibility pissed me off. Even if this was a Groupon deal, the restaurant should also take some responsibility as well. I hate people who play blame games. It's not my fault that there was an internal miscommunication between the managers, but the moment the manager said that it was entirely Groupon's fault, she inadvertently lost a customer. She should have at least apologized and told us that the restaurant will make better efforts towards better communication among the staff and with their customers.
Usually, I am reluctant to say that I will never go back to a restaurant, but this is one of them because I do not trust the manager. If I cannot trust somebody when I am having a problem, I would rather take my business elsewhere.
PROS: Server was polite
CONS: Irresponsible, half hour seating wait time
Since the Manager contacted me asking not to call this place a "shit hole" out of respect I'll just call it a "hole". Â In return you should remove "Eriva R"'s obviously bogus review. Years ago this place was a good local joint to get wings, burgers and they made the best fried chicken cutlets. Went there a few months ago and I just don't know how this place is still open. The bar is like animal house and the food is now what they serve to animals. I ordered a burger mid rare and clearly they pre cook them because it was like a hockey puck. Sent it back and got the same hockey puck back. changed it for wings which were ok. My date ordered a turkey burger. Are they suppose to be a dark shade of grey with a flaccid texture? Clearly frozen pre made. She changed it for a chicken breast sandwich which clearly came from the same frozen food distributor. The manager compt us and gave us a $50 gift card that for whatever reason is still in my wallet.
Review Source:We had lunch on 5/18 and server Nick N could care less about good service. Â Very inattentive to empty drink glasses, brought out salads before appetizers were finished. Â Never asked what side choice we wanted and then served one of us without the side that was supposed to come with the entree and just brought one without a choice again. Â Never came back to ask if everything was okay. Â We had to look for him to get a drink refill, the check, etc. Â Very poor server who seemed unfamiliar with the menu. Â Overall lack of caring. Â Wouldn't return based on this experience.
Review Source:This place gets 3 stars simply for the band!!! They were ROCKIN' on a Thursday night. Came here for a quick bite and drink...food was plain ole' average but the Hurrican kicked my beehive!!! I was buzzin' big time from 1 glass :-). Went over to the bar and sat while listening to the band spit some tunes...they were spot on with the singing and band. Loved it.
Review Source:Probably one of my worst experiences at a restaurant. Came here with 5 other friends as a last resort because the wait here was shorter than another restaurant. The hostess was very nice and came every five minutes updating us about the status of our table. But then came the actual wait for food. I went with the safe bet and got a burger with some Cajun fries. We waited about half an hour for our food. There were no updates from our waiter. I've never waited that long for an order in my life. Then when the food came there was so much Cajun spice on my fries that I could barely breath when I ate them, the burger was very lack luster and nothing special. The only thing stopping the restaurant from getting 0 stars from me was the hostess that kept updating us and the ambiance of the restaurant area.
Review Source:If the same snail's pace of dinner service applied to the actual Bourbon Street in New Orleans, people would forgo hurricanes, sazeracs and gumbo, taking up a life of sobriety, prayer and quiet contemplation.
And to be fair, I like the premise of the restaurant, realize it's been a neighborhood fixture since 1998 and that if I were a local would probably swing by more often for happy hour specials, 2 for appetizers and more.
However, I'm not a local and didn't plan on spending 90+ minutes for dinner in Bayside, not including dessert which we requested to go out of sheer frustration.
Our waitress possessed the valuable skill of making a seemingly desperate situation seem slightly less so by just being so unusually friendly. I couldn't quite reach the level of irate berserk frustration I felt when she'd come by and diffuse the situation with a smile. It'd be so much easier to revel in the 2 star review if the staff was jerky, aloof and downright mean but they aren't.
We went with the fateful decision of partaking in the 4 course prix-fixe menu, which sounded quite reasonable at $24. A basket of bread was swiftly delivered along with drinks and we were well on our way to letting the good times roll.
If they'd ever arrive!
Having come back from Paris, I was familiar with the idea that a table is yours for the night but didn't expect similar behavior back in the good ol' US of A. 30 minutes after ordering, our appetizers arrived.
My mussels were decent enough, nothing that will have me waxing poetically but neither condemning them with the hammer of Thor. I was hungry, I ate and I was ready for course number 2, salad.
30 minutes later.
Salad arrives! Salad eaten.
30 minutes later.
Creole chicken and shrimp arrives! By now communicating in primitive grunts, my wife and I devour the entree, shove aside the plate and plan an exit strategy.
We ask to have dessert to go and for the check. We exit the restaurant shell shocked and delirious and not from too many sazeracs.
What just happened? Did we really spend over 90+ minutes in one restaurant and were we really holding the dessert course in a bag to go? It's like going into a movie and discovering that what could fit perfectly in 90 minutes is a 3 hour self indulgent piece of shlock.
And here's the heart of the matter: I don't even recall much about the food but instead will remember just how long the wait was. Other places we went to this weekend were compared with the Bourbon Street benchmark of tardiness..and were faster!
I may revisit another time and revise my review if given suitable evidence of improvement but otherwise I have experienced faster!
very fun atmosphere with nod to Mardi Gras every day of the year.
yummy selections of classic cajun chow
it does tend to get a college loud crowd on thursdays and weekends and if you are looking to actually have a conversation over a meal- that gets very annoying
the staff is adorably charming and welcoming
and if you want to add to your collection of mardi gras beads without having to work for them...they give them away free
I came here on a Friday night around 10pm with a few of my friends for Yelp Drinks week. The place was pretty empty and even managed to grab a table. The crowd reminded me of Jersey shore with muscle head guys and overly gelled hair. After mentioning to the bartender that we were here for yelp week, he gave us a menu of what drinks were discounted. I ordered the Soco Hurricane and it was alright. Not sure if I would come back for drinks, but def will come back for brunch.
Review Source:Food 3 stars
Service 1 star
I went here for brunch today with two of my girlfriends. I had a Yelp deal.
We arrived at 12:10 and were immediately seated and received our menus. It took quite awhile to place our order. The waitress apologized for the wait. Soon after, we
received our mimosas and bread basket which was quite nice.
Then we waited... we waited... we waited... We were never offered coffee.
We asked for coffee. We waited... We asked her again. We received our coffee and I asked if our order would be out soon. Other guests (at least 3 tables) who arrived after us, received their brunch. She was clearly annoyed by our question.
Up until that time other patrons were happily serviced by other waiters.
The food arrived at 1:00. The food was OK. My eggs Hollandaise and potatoes could have been hotter. The bacon could have been crisper and the english muffin was soggy. My first cup of coffee was not hot either. I really think the food would have been better if it was hotter.
In spite of this, I might return because even without the Yelp deal, it was very reasonably priced. We were able to stay quite awhile and chat. I try not to judge the wait staff but this lack of service affected my experience. When we came in it was not that busy. She seemed harried and had no sense of urgency. If only, she had checked in on us...
Ehh they ended up being ok. A bit over priced IMO considering you only get so so food but what are you going to do. Once you have committed to sitting down and ordering it's done. Lesson learned. I must admit though that the inside is rather nice. We came here one new years eve and ordered from a pre fixed menu. Never again.
Review Source:Definitely a big meh.
We came here solely because it was Mardi Gras -- where else would you go for Mardi Gras but a Cajun/New Orleans-inspired restaurant?
The place got crowded fairly quickly in the evening. It was a mix of old folks, groups of friends, couples, and families with kids. We snagged a table right in front of the band, but they didn't start until 7 PM. They really made the evening, because they gave the place energy that had been lacking beforehand.
The food was decent, but nothing to rave about. The best thing we had was the cornflake chicken fingers. I ended up getting the chicken and shrimp jambalaya, but honestly, it was completely smothered in spicy sauce, to the point where nothing had any taste left to it. It all tasted the same.
The drinks weren't too bad. I ended up getting a beer, and then a hurricane on the rocks. It wasn't exactly the best drink to go with spicy jambalaya.
The meals are pricey, but you do get a lot of food for the price. Unfortunately, since it was a "special" night, the waitress wouldn't accept any of the specials from Yelp or Foursquare. That would have sweetened the evening, but alas!
Normally I don't venture to Bell to satisfy my hunger, but Triple A sent me a coupon, so I decided why not?
Right when I walked in, I entered this bar area where the people were having a merry good time. They were rowdy, laughing loudly, and clanging their pints together. It's definitely what you would expect in a place called Bourbon and it added a festive feel to an otherwise quiet and sparse dining room area. I always think Mardi Gras when I eat Southern.
The decor inside was warm and inviting with a scattering of paintings depicting Southern culture. They also included Mardi Gras beads on every table which I thought was nice, but why would you put them on the plates? I'm not a germaphobe, but a plate is supposed to have the illusion of cleanliness.
Anyway, here is what I thought of the dishes we ordered:
Chef's Crab Cakes 3/5 stars
A bit watery and not much texture, but tasty. I liked the watermelon salsa and the remoulade was good.
Chicken Jambalaya 3/5 stars Â
Nothing to rave about, but it had good flavor and spices. The rice was overdone though - much too mushy even for a jambalaya.
Prime Rib 2/5
When I order medium rare, I don't mean medium well. Don't put prime rib on your menu if you can't cook it the way a customer prefers it. Simple as that.
Murphy's Pasta 4/5 stars
Basically a creamy alfredo pasta with shrimp. The garlic bread it came with sucked though. It wasn't even toasted and it tasted almost stale.
The fact that they didn't serve warm dinner rolls should be enough to ward you away from this place. Foodies be weary of this place. It isn't bad food, but because of the price, you are better of going elsewhere.
The only thing saving this place is the bar, the pretty hostess, and the friendly staff. My waitress was very welcoming and greeted us warmly. The bus boys were attentive. I won't be coming back. Sorry.
Got lunch here today with a Groupon, and I am glad I didn't pay much for it. I really do not like giving poor reviews, however the lunch I got here made me feel sick.
I got the steak panini which was pretty good, however I got the calamari as a appetizer. I don't know what exactly made me feel so sick. Perhaps it was the overuse of teriyaki sauce and the rock hard calamari from deep frying it too much, but I never felt so sick from eating out, and I am a hardcore foodie. Maybe I came in on a bad day, but will not be visiting again.
Enjoyed a birthday lunch at Bourbon Street during Queens Restaurant Week. Â The meal was worth the price and the portions were not skimpy at all. Â We had the jumbo shrimp and grits. Â It came with the andouille sausage which wasn't listed on the menu, but the waiter was so apologetic and eagerly returned with a new portion that was Delicious! Â We hardly had room for the entree and had to take it home to eat later along with the cheese cake for dessert.
To our surprise, we also received a lunch card as an incentive to return which we defintiely will.
Bourbon Street is the official spot for our family gatherings. The Catering Manager, Ellen, is extremely agreeable and patient. We've got some picky eaters - any menu we run with is going to be tweaked to high heaven.
Not only is the venue affordable, but the people here are welcoming and friendly. I have never encountered attitude. For me the standouts are: the chocolate chip muffins served during brunch, the steak in cognac sauce, the Murphy's Pasta. The portions are a generous plenty & you can easily find yourself taking some home.
Bourbon Street Cafe is on Twitter (@BourbonStQueens) and has drink / food specials throughout the week. They also host several events throughout the year. There's also a special offer tied to Yelp CheckIns.
First off, as a server, you don't curtly say it's a busy night so that's why you're so inattentive...as you only have 4 tables your covering and you apparently have time to kiss your other customer goodnight at the table next to ours I can't imagine you THAT busy that I have to flag you down TWICE to take our dinner order...
Ordered:
Mac & cheese with spicy calamari on top: since when does lumpy alfredo sauce tossed over penne constitute as mac & cheese? And spicy calamari? Fried breaded squid tossed in Pete's red hot sauce, aka buffalo sauce, is not spicy...salty yes but not spicy.
Spinach & artichoke dip: I saw the spinach, I don't think there was any artichoke, the chips were stale and the kicker was it was overly dry so it seemed like they put more cheese on top to mask it but then did a terrible job of even melting the cheese to make it even look like it wasn't a half ass attempt.
Surf & Turf: skirt steak and crawfish etoufee: you can't f'up a skirt steak...OK maybe you can but they at least cooked it to what I asked...still the steak was flimsy piece of skirt... And they should have just written sauteed red and green peppers etoufee with a sprinkling of chopped cray fish. Dish was totally bland and unappetizing.
Jambalaya: supposedly my dinner companions liked it....All I really tasted was a tomato base and mushy rice.
I give this place 2 stars because they were able to seat our group of 6 right away without a reservation on a Sat night. Â But it's doubtful I'll be back here again.
I just got back from NOLA so I said this was going to be a bad idea, but I was wrong. Â The waitstaff were very attentive. The decoration is pretty cool and reminded me a bit of when I was there a few weeks ago. Â Also, I got beads, something I sadly did not win when I was down there. Â I had checked into Yelp of course and received a 50% off an entree or dessert with an entree and I'm like wooT! Â I went with Prof. S and she got the burger, an entree of heaven she called it. Â She even had them put blue cheese on it and had mayo and remoulade sauce on the side for her fries. Â You know I'm not a fries person, but put anything in ram sauce and I'm like alright it's a party. Â I had the pulled pork quesadilla appetizer, which was HUGE (like serves 4 people huge). Â I had trouble with my Yelp app, but the waiter saw the deal twice so he gave it to me so that was awesome. Â Apparently Bourbon Street would like to see your redeem code, if there is one, but there is not so ha.
Drink wise: I had a bourbon and coke, because when in a Cajun/southern restaurant bourbon is the only thing I want to suck down. So I ordered a Mint Julep originally, and there was no mint - so how can that be? Well my drink was good; I told them not to make it strong because it was midday and I was driving and that thing could've knocked out a truck driver. I'd say the loss of the star was due to that.
I plan to go back for their Sunday brunch, because it looks interesting.
In my opinion, this place only does one dish well: the Murphy's Special Pasta. The shrimp that comes on top of the pasta are gargantuan and the garlic bread that is on the side is to die for. Everything else I've tried aside from that and the fried calamari have been a disappointment.
Service: really, luck of the draw: a good server and staff person will make you happy, but a not so good one....
Example: there was a busboy who brought us lemons for our water with his hand after slicing them. Yes, an open lemon that was hand carried through the restaurant from the kitchen. No plate. Made us feel sick and wonder what goes on in the kitchen.
However, the second we told the story to the waitress, she instantly changed our water glasses and got us new water.
Decor: it's dark at night...saving electricity or making it "romantic" ? Not sure.
On Sunday, we stopped by Bourbon Street on Bell Blvd for dinner around 5PM. It is a pretty big restaurant and thought maybe we could have some southern food. We were seated in a pretty big area. But there was a large family sitting there and they were pretty loud and there was an annoying kid sitting there too making random noises trying to get the attention of his mother who continuously ignored him. Good job mom!
Anyways, back to our dinner and our meal. The waiter greeted us and took our drink order, some beer and a hurricane drink. The drink was kind of strong for me.
The bread they brought out before we ordered was amazing! We had like type of bread they brought out. We just left the crackers there.
For appetizer, we had ordered the mac and cheese and it was amazing! It was southern style with buffalo chicken in it. A little more on the spicy side, but it's a nice twist to the mac and cheese. On top of that, they don't use elbow pasta, but instead use the penne pasta to make their mac and cheese! Awesome! :D
I had ordered a turkey burger that came with peppers that were sweet. Fries also came with the meal. I liked the burger. It was more on the healthy side...lol.
He ordered the blackened burger and seemed pretty good. He ordered it with the sweet potato fries.
We were so full and didn't have any room for dessert.
It is a nice laid back place to grab dinner at and there are TV's there too. At the time, they were showing some NASCAR racing or something.
2.5 stars
Came here for a 60th birthday party. Â It is not as bad as everyone says it is, but it definitely isn't a place I would come back to.
Not sure how much everything cost as it was a party package, but it seemed more on the inexpensive side for a party. Very low key and simple.
I came on a Sunday afternoon at 2pm, place is relatively empty but we had a section of the restaurant blocked off to ourselves.
The table was set with fruit cups and a basket of muffins, bagels, grain crackers as the "starters" and also trays in the form of cars that had a lot of candy inside.
I ordered a calamari salad as my entree and I at most just picked at it. Â The calamari was fine (BTW it was fried, which was not specified on the menu), but there was just so much salad dressing on the salad. Â The ceasar dressing was too much for my liking. Â It tasted like the type of salad you would get at the salar bar at pizza hut, pre-made and have been sitting there for hours.
Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience but I would never come back.
Came here with a friend and decided to try the Brunch. We were seated right away on a Sunday in the afternoon before 2:30pm. We each got the Eggs Hussarde, poached eggs with homemade creamed spinach over an english muffin with hollandaise sauce and home fries/potatoes off the Brunch menu which included a mimosa (or screwdriver) and a basket of bagel pieces, corn bread and various crackers. When we wre given glasses for water, one actually had lipstick marks on it.. but we were given another after alerting the waitress. She was nice.
Overall we enjoyed the brunch and packed up the coffee cake to go. We were entitled to coffee or tea as well, but we had to run to our next destination. I would come again for brunch! :)
I see alot of negative reviews on here, but personally I had a good experience here. I came to meet up with some old friends for brunch on a Sunday and had a pleasant time. The service was a bit slow, however, the restaurant was packed, so I expected it to be that way.
The brunch is a great value. Â You can get a mimosa or a bloody mary (if my memory is correct) free with your brunch. Â They also give you fruit saald and a bread basket that has bagels and muffins too. Â I ordered the banana waffles and they were very good. Â Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. Only thing, was that we had a few non beef eaters and this place didn't have turkey or chicken sausage/bacon. Â But hey, not every place does. Â
At the end of our meal they gave us crumb cake and coffee. Â I was STUFFED! Â I believe my meal totaled maybe $15.00. Â Not bad at all! Â Plus since it was around the holidays, they gave us all a $10 coupn toward our next visit.
I grew up in the area but had never been to Bourbon Street, so when I saw their groupon I thought it would be a good time to check it out. Â Sort of wished I'd have saved my money....
They had fish tacos on the specials menu. Â My husband ordered them, and instead they brought out a fish wrap. Â BIG difference. The server knew it was not correct and all he could say was that "that's what the kitchen told me to bring you. Are you mad?" Â Um....no, not mad. Â But definitely surprised. Â Disappointed. Â Even a bit confused. Â When we asked our server why the *specials* menu advertised "tacos" if they meant "wrap" all he could say was that the restaurant was run by a bunch of monkeys in chef hats. Â We still don't really know why there were no tacos - did they forget to order the shells? Then take it off the menu. Â Do they not know what tacos are? Because really, even monkeys in chef hats know what a taco is. Â
My husband and I have both been servers, and I was a restaurant manager for many, many years. Â Neither of us would have EVER brought out a completely different meal for our customer without first asking if they would like to change their order once we realized we didn't really have what they asked for. Â Or compensating them for their meal if we did end up giving them something totally different (but really, I would have NEVER EVER served someone something totally different without asking them if they were ok with it first). Â I've really never experienced anything like this. Â
Our appetizer was really good (pulled pork quesadillas), which is why this is getting two stars, but the rest of the meal was ok and half of it was obviously not even what we ordered. Â I doubt we will go back.
I have visited Burbon Street on and off over the years and last night was not what I have come to expect.
Our waitress was great, I feel bad that the kitchen was such a let down.
I ordered the Po Boy with Andouille, the sausage was barely heated up and the sauce was put on between the lettuce and tomato???? Â Doesnt the sauce go on the bread?
My wife ordered 2 apps for dinner (its what pregnant women do sometimes) Terraki Calamari and Train wreck fries. The calamari was WAY too sauced, made everythign soggy. The fries, well I think the garlic dressing went bad or something, we werent sure and ordered extra on the side and yes that was way too overwhelming.
I think they know they have an issue, the hostess asked us to fill out comment cards....both of us!
Will we be back, maybe. But my guess it wount be for awhile.
My advice...never go there for food! Â For drinks, maybe.
I went there with our family friend for a Saturday dinner. Â The food was a disaster...it was like, was the chef out for dinner??
We started with seafood bisque. Â It was so starchy and tasted like flour mixed with hot water, no seafood flavor at all.
I ordered Cajun sampler, that consisted of grilled chicken, sausage and some kind of flavored rice. Â The chicken was so dry and tasteless, I mean, no flavor except for the sauce they excessively put over it. Â My friend had jambalaya, and it was just the red sauce over steamed rice. Â No flavor came from the rice itself, and no crayfish or sausage. Â Maybe it is their style to just steam or grill whatever without adding and letting it absorb the flavors and put the source over. Â
And for this they charge you a lot!
We'll never go back to the restaurant again.
After 1.5 hours of wait and nearly starving for several hours prior, the service was great but the food was mediocre. I should have known better than to order a Cajun dish, but the restaurant was called Bourbon Street!
1. Red Sangria - very sour and bitter, I think the red wine was bad.
2. Bread with Maple Butter - I think this was my favorite of the night. The Maple Butter was sweet and nutty, and the bread had three varieties.
3. Salad with Blue Cheese - very fresh =)
4. Chicken and Shrimp Jambalaya - disappointing, tasted more like Italian paella with a kick.
In the end, I found out the reason why we waited so long for this place: http://restaurant.com discount. Oh, and the Maitre'd was mean and dismissive (maybe she was pissed she had to work on a Friday night?0
I think what irked me the most for this restaurant is the appended 18% gratuity at the end of the bill (there were only 5 people at the table). Tipping ranges from 15-20%, and defaulting their tip at 18% just reflect their low confidence on their customers to tip appropriately. Either that or their service sucks most of the time. I usually tip 20% for decent service, but I'll settle for 18% if they insist.
New Orleans wanna-be.
I tend to avoid anything that bills itself as "New Orleans" unless it is sitting in the great state of Louisiana proper.
We popped in here after leaving the previous place that only took cash and were kind of disappointed- colored lights and beads do not a New Orleans place make.
The bar is large but it was nothing but dudes all the way down- I dunno but to me a fun place should have a good mix of people. Â This place was very dull and boring - definitely not a New Orleans vibe.
To be honest we bailed out before really trying anything - the atmosphere was too dismal for us.
Parking on street or muni-lots.
