Went to see Bizzy Bone perform last night. He was on something but you probably already know what.

It's a small venue, so I wonder how they get all those national bands to perform. Last week, Nonpoint came to perform and I would have liked to join Ruby A. who went to see them.

The Pit is really small (probably fits about 200 or less), which means you can easily find yourself standing in front row. That's where I stood last night after some stranger in front of me pulled me up to the front. Some girl midway through the show got ON the stage with Bizzy with some help from her friends, and next thing you know, other people were up there with him as well.

I also walked in and didn't have to pay a cover, but that's probably because I got there so late. Sweet!

The resident drummer is really good but the people who were playing the backtracks for Bizzy were doing a terrible job selecting the right tracks. I also noticed the light show had gone on pause throughout half a song and was no longer moving with the music.

Other than that, a pretty good 18-up show and a cool intimate venue. Everyone was really friendly and down-to-earth, which made the atmosphere even more fun.

There is no dress code, so sneakers are great. Just make sure you bring your earplugs. And don't wear clothing you have to dry-clean because this place got hella smoky.

I have had time to get to know the owner of the "Pit" and the staff.  I can say that they are good people wanting to put the music scene "out there" for Jacksonville to enjoy.  It is not as small as I first thought and the Mosh Pit is alive and well.  If you want the first tickets to a show, stop by the Brewsters "Pub" right next door.  The bartender can hook you up with the best prices in town!

    Yep, it's a pit alright.

The Pit is a bar/venue that's attached to Brewster's Pub, which is another bar. Hell, they're really just the same bar. It's down Beach Boulevard near Golden Corral. I'd honestly rather hang out there. They seem to book mainly metal and punk acts. They also book weird c-grade national bands like Green Jelly and Marcy Playground.

Someday, Creed will play at Brewster's Pit.

I have friends who say with confidence that this is the worst venue in town. I've seen bands play at Yesterday's and had a better time, so my friends might be right. One thing I do know is that The Pit charges loads of money to get in the door. As Connie noted, tickets are generally $8 and up. All-you-can-eat buffet at Golden Corral is also about $8. Both choices are equally bad for my health, but I'll take the option that doesn't involve me having to look at dudes with dyed-green chinbeards and ear cartilage piercings.

FYI: If you really want to experience the Jacksonville punk/hillbilly metalgoth scene, skip The Pit and visit Doozer's Pub instead. A band played there last week called Dude, Where's My Corpse?
