I grew up going here. It was always my favorite spot on bell. The bartenders, bouncers, and staff were always awesome...The food I loved best out of all the bars on bell as well.
.I just can't stand the Jersey shore wannabe clientele. Guess that's what you get being so close to Long Island.

I've been here a couple of times.  The first time I went for lunch and it was dead in there.  The staff was super friendly and the food was good.  They had a special for a steak sandwich and it was really good!

The second time I went in for a late lunch and this time it was packed.  The waitress we had was super friendly and attentive.  We had fries, wings, and calamari.  Great!  Way too much food LOL.  The wings were really good.  The calamari was....  EEEHhhhhh.

Stick with the bar food staples.  I will go back because the atmosphere is great and the staff helps with that.  The food is decent and I did like the wings.  You know what they need Tator tots...  Sh%t we need to bring the TOT back as a bar staple!

I have to say I am impressed with the fact that one of the bartenders reached out to me after seeing my previous review, and I have since returned to enjoy a few beer specials and the 2-4-1 dinners. Not too bad and the service was better, so I guess an off night doesnt fully reflect this place, but still - don't get it twisted, this is a dark bar where men drink vodka-cokes during the day and you feel like the sun is never out. But I guess that's not always a bad thing...

I am not a bar person so I do not go here for that, I go here for the bar food! Not only do they have great specials throughout the week but the food is surprisingly very good. Their .20cent wing night is great! The wings are meaty every time I have gone there! I work in the area so its a good place that stays open late and the food hasn't disappointed me!

I used to come here a lot when I lived in the neighborhood - and I love a good local bar just as much as the next one, so when we were regulars, they noticed - which is great.

decent food, good drinks, a nice IPA on tap.  I haven't had any thing other than wings, mozz sticks, french fries (mmmmm) and their burgers.

I gotta say, their burger is friggin huge, so if you're in the mood for a big, greasy burger, you're in the right spot.  I like my meat rare, and they weren't really able to do that, but I dont think thats totally weird for a bar.

The people working here are friendly, the crowd is mainly blue collar making it a comfortable environment; they have a juke box and live music once in a while, different themes each nice.  I like em

Only two stars for beer specials. This place needs new tvs! And the wings on wing night Wednesday's is so hard, tasted old or you can taste the freezer burn. Yuck and why is the music always on rock in he juke box? The type where people wanna cut their wrists too? It's so emo.

Boy oh boy did I get fooled. Tried to get into Uncle Jack's (across the street) without reservations and failed miserably. Disappointed but not wanting to wait, I spotted Brian Dempsey's. I knew nothing about this place before I went. I thought it looked like a nice, upscale bar, at least I did from the other side of the street  So without even looking inside (in our defense it was cold out) we blindly ventured inside.

First things first, how many front doors are there to get in this place? Two? Three? How about too many. We picked door two and walked into the "dinning room," which is nothing more then a collection of rickety old table and chairs. There was no one else in the dinning room but the bar was packed with the leftovers from happy hour (my favorite was the sweaty behemoth grinding on anything that moved who had nominated herself to yell out the name of each song before launching into a unsolicited, un-amplified (no need cause she yelled the lyrics so loud) karaoke rendition of each song. She added to the ambience of the place.).

One of the pages of the menu was written long hand, I kid you not. Realizing I went from a premiere steakhouse to a premiere shithole, I stuck with the basics and ordered a thing of mozzarella sticks as a starter and a cheeseburger, medium. The mozzarella sticks were awful. They came out burnt (black) but some how they were cold. My burger was huge but it came out well done, not a hint of pink. Terrible. Fries were fries.

This place is nothing more then bar food at a table.

The first big turn off was the doorman who groaned and rolled his eyes at me over showing my passport. Since when was a passport not an acceptable form of ID? The last bar I had been to in the area didn't recognize my California Drivers license, so I figured passport was a sure bet, as it is recognized world wide.

Step it up Bayside. Train your doormen & keep them up to date on IDs.. some people may have just moved here or gasp even be visiting family from out of town.

Typical irish bar scene and bar food.  A little pricey. $9 fried pickles..You can pick up a whole jar of pickles for $1.. idk how they rationalize this.

I give them props for trying really hard to entertain and engage their customers on off nights. There was a trivia game going on when we came in and they asked us to jump in on it. Why not right? The host had a TON of energy and was awesome. Unfortunately the set up was pretty pathetic.

I'm kind of scared to know what karaoke nights are like!

Some one tell me why there are so many bars in Bayside? and why they are all below average?

My gym hosted a party here, and I was a little skeptical of their food at first, because usually food they offer at bars are just covered with grease and not much else. But I took a bite of each they had to offer (wings, pasta, veggies, steak, chicken, mozarella sticks, blackened chicken, etc.) and EVERYTHING was freakin' DELICIOUS. Dempsey's is awesome!

Oh, and another bonus: They don't water down their drinks!

I came here with a few guys to have some wings and just hang out while watching the Yanks. It was a Wednesday and there was a $.20/wing special. So we ordered 100 hot. Everybody ordered a few drinks, Diet Coke for me, to which the waitress expresses what a boring drink order it is, that's fine i'm used to a little ribbing for not drinking. But what i cannot take is the fact that these hot wings had absolutely no heat to it. Honestly i was a little confused and repeated asked my friends wait we did order the Hot right? because Mild was actually one of the other options. I could not believe that they were so flavorless.

Yes the wings were cheap, and they were meaty also, but why so grimy with the hot sauce?

I used to come here years ago when I had a friend that worked at Dempsey's.  I always found it to be a good time, though the bartenders at night were a little slutty looking they still poured a mean drink (is it really necessary to cut a tank top to make it skimpier?).

Food was always good, but it was bar food so how could you really mess up wings and nachos?  Good tunes, decent crowd.. it's an alright place to grab a drink.

Your typical bar with ok food. I like their deals though, they have one for almost every day of the week

    Mon: $4 burgers, $3 millers
    Tue: 2 for 1 dinners, $1 tacos, $3 millers
Wed: 20 cent wings, $3 domestic pints
Thu: $13 steak dinner, $3 domestic pints, $1 tacos
Sun: 2 for 1 dinners, 25 cent wings, $3 domestic pints

I used to come here with one of my buddies back a few months ago to start the night off on bell. It had decent beer deals on Thursdays. They had some decent deals like $3 buds/coors. Obviously not the best beer in the world but it's probably the best deal in the area. The service is good.

Come watch the game and enjoy a beer. They even have a punching machine and an arcade machine if you're bored. They even have a jukebox and karaoke on some nights as well.

Besides the occasional event, this place isn't usually too crowded, so if you want to start the night off relaxed, give Dempsey's a shot.

I had only been here a few times at night for when my friend's brother's band was playing and it was always pretty crowded so I did not have much of a chance to really experience this place.

I came here the other night with my boyfriend and another couple for dinner. We came here because our friend knows the bartender and he had told him to come by. He gave us a big discount on drinks and a few free shots so that was a nice bonus. We were here on a Tuesday night and they have a 2 for $25 dinner special which we actually did not take advantage of, but it is good to know that they have it. My boyfriend and I ordered a French onion soup to share. It was okay, it did not have much flavor to it, I have definitely had better tasting French onion before. I ordered the roast beef dip sandwich with curly fries. The sandwich was huge and actually really tasty. It was kind of salty which isn't really my thing since I barely ever use salt but it gave it good flavor. I had half of my sandwich left over since it was so big. Everyone seemed to enjoy what they had. My boyfriend had a reuben sandwich and our friends had a steak sandwich and a grilled cheese with bacon. Nothing was worth raving about but definitely an option on a night when you are in the mood for American food.

The decor is older than some of the other places on bell. It is decorated in mostly dark wood and has a more laid back vibe to it. They have other food deals on other nights of the week that I would probably come back to try.

It would be nice if they heated up the wings a bit.  Every single time I go there, the wings are ice cold in the middle....somebody please heat them up!  I miss when it used to be McGuire's.  The wings were soooooooooooooooo delicious and cheap!

Not particularly a place to catch a game (since the televisions are from 1992) but the staff is generally friendly and the food is decent.  Check it out if you are ever on Bell Boulevard.

¢25 wings and $9 domestic pitchers on Sun.

2 for 1 dinner meals $3 miller lite bottles on Sun. and Tues.

$4 burgers and $3 miller lite bottles on Mon.

$1 taco as well as $3 miller lite bottles on Tues. and Thurs.

¢20 wings $3 domestic pints Wed.

Sometimes the wings are cold-warm and pretty small, other times there big and happily fresh.

The burgers.... they charge you for the PLOT (pickles, lettuce, tomato, onions, and anything else you want on the burger). So even though it's $4 it can go up to $10.
Also, when you ask for Medium Rare... you get Medium Well.... Even though you make sure that their definition of MR is a warm red center.
The bun for the burger isn't a regular burger bun, I believe they use a wonderful sourdough bread... but I could be wrong (I'll update this later with the exact type).

Sometimes the servers are negligent and rude, other times they are adept and friendly. You never know what you'll get when you come here.

There is no deals that I'm aware of for Fri. & Sat.

Location, it's convenient and the kitchen is open 'til 12AM
So yes, I will go back. They have decent deals.

Also just to add besides the food and drinks being affordable, the atmosphere and staff are excellent especially the one bar tender with the tounge ring. She is the sweetest and definitely doesn't  harass anyone (directed at 2 reviews below) . They also always have on the hockey games which is great. Let's go Rangers!

    Firstly...if I could give a 0 star rating, I would.

Let's get something straight...when compared to other popular bars on Bell Blvd. such as Johnny Famous or Bourbon Street, Dempsey's is the lowest on the pedestal. No one ever goes in there because it sucks and it's not as fun as the other bars..it's dead 95% of the time.

Two nights ago put the final nail in the coffin for me. I will never be returning to Brian Dempsey's again in my life. They will never see business from me and I will absolutely refuse to recommend this place to anyone. As Joe P. stated, beware of the rude girl with the tongue ring because she will come over to you and tell you to leave if you aren't putting considerable business into the place. I've never been in a bar that told me to leave because I wasn't buying anything until I walked into Brian Dempsey's two nights ago...what kind of nonsense is that?

I hope this place gets slapped with a health violation for roaches and mice and maybe go under investigation for hiring illegals (I can dream, can't i?). I want this place shut down for good..and honestly no one would miss it because no one ever goes there!

In fact, I hope i get a rebuttal from Dempsey's on my comment on Yelp because I want a formal apology and you just lost a lot of potential customers..suck on that for awhile.

I've never been so outraged in ANY place, be it a store, bar, restaurant etc. Me and a friend walk in this bar, not really looking for a drink, but just trying to browse the crowd. After all, is the definition of a bar NOT a "public house?" The other main attraction besides drinking at a bar is to be around people. So we're standing there bs-ing about life, when all of a sudden, a waitress/server/whatever with a tounge ring (be wary of this one, she's a real bitch!) comes up to us asking if we'd like a drink. We politely decline. I do not drink, and my friend who was driving himself already had some at another bar on the boulevard. That should have been all, but this bitch had to get on our case. "YOU COME TO A BAR AND DON'T DRINK?" I swear to God. I'm like excuse me? The three of us have an exchange, and basically her point was our presence wasn't helping them out because we weren't giving them business. Are you kidding me? So should window shoppers be kicked out of stores for browsing? I felt like sticking a quarter into one of the arcade games and shouting "HAPPY NOW? HERE'S SOME  BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!!" but I was so aggrevated by this nervy bitch's attitude I walked out with my friend. We went right across the street to Bourbon Street, sat at a table and conversed freely. Not a soul distrubed us nor was anyone angry that we were not consuming alcohol. And Dempsey's was HARDLY full that night, we weren't exactly preventing anyone else from coming inside and enjoying themselves. The entire situation was extremely offending, and it took me several minutes to cool down. If you ever have the misfortune of being at this bar and meeting the "bitchy employee with the tounge ring" make sure to give her a nice hard time over every little thing. She deserves it, she basically discriminated against people who are not drinking. I will never go back to this bar in my life thanks to her.

Came here for dinner with my neighbors, brother and sister. I ordered the steak dinner with ale and two sides for $12.95. It was HUGE and totally worth it. It came with two sides so I got the steamed veggies and curly fries which were both fabulous. My sister got Penne with prosciutto and peas - very thick and heavy but I loved it. We also ordered 3 tacos at $1 a piece. Overall a GREAT experience and I would DEFINITELY come back.

If I could I would give this place 0 stars. I hate giving bad reviews but for 1, the manager told us while waiting for our table to wait outside. Like outside? Really? Might have just told us to find some where else to eat all together. Second, when I did not comprehend the unprofessional waitress's speech of her handing out our dishes she looked at me and asked me " why are you looking at me like I'm effin crazy?". Once again- really? Wow. Never again at this place! Besides the wings were deff from the freezer, aka crap!

every time i go to this place i feel like im one of the members of cheers. staff is great. can be on the noisy side once in a while and never can find a place to sit, but once the band leaves or karaoke is over its nice and quiet.( just the way i like it) food not bad either, but i never seem to make it before the kitchen close. its my saturday ritual. just sit and people watch. may have a drink or two(cops on every corner) sing with the locals. never a dull nite when i go here. its a chill place to hang.

I came here on a sunday night with my bf. We were just wandering around bell blvd trying to find someplace new to eat and we spot that Brian Dempsey had .25 cent wings on sunday (apparenlty .20 cent on wednesdays). They also had a 2 for 1 dinner special where each person can order a soup or salad, an entree, and a side dish for $20.95. An amazing deal for that amount of food.

+Clam chowder: this is on the creamier thicker side which I love but for those who prefer waterier or less creamy chowders might want to stay away. I thought it was delicious.

+Seafood bisque: The amount of seafood present in my bowl surprised me and the taste was wonderful. Not creamy at all, which is surprising considering bisques I've had in the past at other places.

+10oz shell steak: We both ordered this. I really feel like each person got more than 10oz. Avoiding the chance it might get overcooked, I requested mine medium rare and my boyfriend requested medium. My instincts were correct. My steak came crossing the line between medium and medium well. Juicy and wonderful char flavor I loved it. My boyfriend wasn't as lucky, his medium came as a drier well done lol. The entree came with veggies which were a welcome addition.

+Mashed potatoes and onion rings: yummy and fresh.

I was pleasantly surprised that all the food was very "cooked from scratch" tasting. I didn't detect anything canned or any lazy shortcuts. Simple filling portions at a good price. While it wasn't a 5 star restaurant, it tasted like something that will come out of a home kitchen, which I liked for a slow sunday night while watching the football game on one of their many tvs.

The wings were good but the star of the show was the blue cheese sauce. It had actual chunks of blue cheese in it- heaven on wings.

this place SUX it hard. my seafood bisque was bitter and watery and doodoo brown looking. the bimbo waitress never even gave me a spoon so i had to eat iit with a hollwed out clam shell. my medium rare burger was burnt to a black crispy coal patty. i mean c'mon, how do you screw up a burger? of the 10 tvs only 2-3 were flat screens. the rest were tvs from the 70s. worst bar on bell hands down

Best "bar" in the area.  Friendly staff, cool crowd (usually), good daily specials (beer and food), decent quality food......what more can you ask for?

$3 miller lights all day every day.  Im no miller light fan.....but its nice to know I can sit down somewhere with a $20 and drink 4 or 5 beers.

A great place to grab some good food and a quick drink for lunch or after work. The food selection is surprisingly large for a bar and they always have sweet specials on both food and drinks. Try this place out!! Parking sucks though, just like every spot on Bell blvd.

I have been going to Dempsey's for many years. Drinking there has always been a good time. For the first time ever, I had dinner there. I did not have particularly high expectations for the quality of the food and yet I was sorely disappointed. Everything tasted like it was dipped in salt. I like salty food and this was still overwhelming. The service was fine though.

I can see having quite a few hit or miss experiences in this place, but all in all it's not bad. I like the variety of their daily specials and happy hours lists, which could be nice for coming here often.

It seems like an Irish-style pub, but thankfully does not pretend to be, writing "American Ale House" very prominently on its sign.

$3 cheapies and $4 premium/craft beers during happy hour, not bad. When there is a free buffet or 20 cent wings as well, it's worth it to come here.

This place is not my type of watering hole, but nevertheless it makes sense why local young folk come out here and think higher of it than they really should. I came here because of a close friend who lives in Queens invited me out and I have been here quite a few times, under different names of both the establishment and my own, to not many differences. The underage thing is sometimes an issue, but overall, not that bad if you are up on Bell Blvd. and want some cheap wings and something domestic on tap.

This place is a bit out there and populated heavily with college kids even though, I'm not sure St John's or Queens College is even that close to here.  We came here for the Wednesday 20 cent wing night.

The group I traveled with each had 10 wings.  Wusses.  I went easy tonight and only went with 20.  When you're with a bunch of young impressionable youth, you don't want to scare them.  The wings themselves were decent at best.  They had 4 varieties:  hot, mild, teriyaki, and bbq.  I got the teriyaki and hot.  The teriyaki didn't taste like anything and looked like it was just poured from a Nissen sauce bottle.  The hot wings were essentially Texas Pete.  The bbq was some liquid sauce that didn't taste like anything either.  The wings themselves were nothing special.  They were a decent size and fried.  The only thing that made this worthwhile was that they were 20 cents.  They gave bleu cheese.  Drink prices were nothing special.  My pint of Sam Adams was 5 bucks.

The service was decent.  There were a bunch of loud college kids.  Parking was not that hard to find.  Would I come back?  Eh, if I'm in town and I'm really jonesing for some wings...and it's Wednesday.

Ahh, the old stomping grounds. First it was Dempsey's.. then Maguire's.. now back to Dempsey's.. and it's a watering hole I still miss. Back in the day this was my default drinking location where all the regulars were friends and the bartenders like family. Having moved 900 miles away I don't get to hit Dempsey's like I used to, but walking through that foyer every few months still makes me feel good.

This place turns into meet-market central for under-thirty-somethings every night after 9 (although no one ever actually seems to pick up anyone here.. they just want to be seen). A whole lot of frat boys mixed with a few sluts and a few deep, intellectual, self-obsessed chicks. Every night there's some kind of special (10-cent wings, $3 burgers, $2 Miller Lites, stuff like that) so you can always hang out cheaply here. To get the right kind of preferential treatment from the bartenders, please remember to tip on the full price, people.

Earlier in the evening there are usually a few Dropkick Murphys fans hanging out, making the place tolerable. Sometimes there are bikers, but usually the cuddly Long Island midlife crisis kind.

Bartenders are usually totally hot with nothing going on upstairs, so order everything using one-syllable words. I kid you not. You will get good buybacks, but it might be because they can't count.

    This place is good for:
-Meeting up with your newly single friends who *think* they want to meet people but actually just want to be cruised.
-Meeting up with your friends who are cheap and grumble about $4 beers and generally have a bad time everywhere due to their cheapness.
-Meeting up with people who you haven't seen in a while and whose tastes in bars you can't be sure about.
-Avoiding Lucky's when you're hanging out with your single friends.
