I can't decide if I love or hate the brick...sometimes I have a great experience there, and sometimes it is downright awful. I go often because it is a convenient location and pretty well priced...but there is not hostess, you are supposed to seat yourself, and because it is so small and packed, sometimes you have to either wait a very long time to get a place to sit, or literally wait by someone's booth until they leave. Also, since you seat yourself, many times you go unnoticed by the wait staff for a looong time. A friend and I once waited a half-hour just to get someone to take our drink order. And we had been trying to get someone's attention! The food selection is meh, the wait staff will tell you the kitchen is open, hand you a menu, then come back two minutes later and take the menu out of your hand and say the kitchen is closed. The noise level at this place is ridiculous...I get it that it is a music place, but why are the "unplugged" shows so loud that you cannot speak to anyone at your table unless your literally shouting? Overall there are much better in places in Dover to go...I'm really not so sure why this place is so popular.
Review Source:Decent selection of beers and cocktails. The place has plenty of seating which is a nice plus when it gets busy.
The food is average and their aren't a lot of things to chose from. The only thing I didn't like was that they charge a cover on Fridays and Saturadays. Really this is Dover not Boston get real about where you are.
I like the Brick House, I really do. Â The upstairs is usually a really fun time with a variety of acts, (local and national), and the downstairs is cozy and nice with acoustic acts playing nightly. Â The beer specials are pretty good, Burnside 10 Penny Ale for $3. Â I went there last night for their 'Wing Night'. Â I was NOT impressed. Â We sat at the bar, which was nice as the bar tender was attentive and brought me a beer whenever I was getting low. Â We put in our order for a couple of dozen wings, we tried the Bourbon BBQ, Sesame Teriyaki, Applewood Smoke Rub, and the Habenero Atomic Fire wings and an order of fries. Â Unfortunately, the wings were awful. Â We waited about 35 minutes to get our order, and it was obvious that our food had been sitting under heat lamps for a LONG time. Â Wings were dried out, with either way too much sauce or barely none at all. Â The Applewood Smoke rub tasted like salt and pepper, the Habenero were just straight heat with no other flavor, Semsame Teriyaki were extremely sweet, & completely dried out, the Bourbon BBQ were the best tasting out of the lot, but still not good as they had been sitting for so long and had very litte sauce and what little sauce was on there, had become hard and was not appetizing. Â Not only were the wings not good, but on their website, they advertise wings as 'Jumbo Wings for 35 Cents a piece'. Â When we got there, they were 50 cents. Â Not a huge price jump, but still...false advertising. Â The fries were decent, but in no way redeemed the disappointment in my meal. Â I will go back to the Brick, but definitely NOT for the wings.
Review Source:The Dover Brickhouse is everything you want in a local bar. Â It's got a great menu, with pub food and some more gourmet surprises, good music, a (usually!) friendly staff, and patrons ranging from professionals after work to bikers and heavily tattooed musician types. Â
The room upstairs is pretty well set up for bands, and despite how crowded it can get, you can always get a drink pretty quickly. Â They also have a wide range of shows and other mixed performances, and are generally willing to try anything in their space.
Some of the regulars are a bit stand-offish, myself included, but its really all bark, which adds to the character of the place. Â And the owners are constantly improving the place.
It can get pretty crazy weekends after 11:00 or so, and on nights with big bands upstairs
Went to the Brickhouse to see a Death & Taxes show.  It was a bit tough to find, but  plenty of parking was available (metered, but free on the weekends and after 6pm).
Very easy to get in, and got right upstairs. Cover was a little more than I would have liked for mostly local bands in a fairly small venue, at $9 per.
The upstairs area was actually a good layout for a concert, and the acoustics were pretty good for a bar. Â The bartenders were quick and efficient, and the drinks weren't overpriced.
Overall, we had a good time!
I've been to the Brickhouse a couple of times now and I think I'm ready to put in my review. Went here this past Saturday to watch Mark's band open for Boring Kind of Guy upstairs in the music venue they have there. We decided to grab a bite to eat at the bar before heading upstairs for the show and we easily snagged a spot when another couple was leaving.
We ordered our usual Jameson and ginger ale and waited a few minutes for the bartender to bring us some food menus. We ordered the mini cheeseburgers with fries. Seriously though, what is ON those french fries? Crack sauce? They were delicious. And the mini burgers? Also friggin awesome. I always run into the not-enough-burger-for-the-bun issue when I order mini burgers but at the Brickhouse, that's not an issue. I had two mini cheeseburgers and it was enough for my meal with the fries. They were juicy, delicious and on a soft asiago bun. Definitely give these a shot if you stop in here and are in need of a burger fix.
Once we had filled our bellies with magical burger and french fry goodness, we headed upstairs to the venue. What a great space. The bar is big enough to not have to wait for a drink for 15 minutes every time you need one, but not so big that it intrudes on the space of the room. This place was packed and there was still room to move, room to grab a drink and clearly... room to form a mosh pit where you and your mohawked friends can beat the hell out of each other in the name of metal. Sorry to the guy I heeled in the chest when I was shooting the show... but actually? Ya know what? Sorry I'm not sorry. If you can punch yourself in the face for fun, I'm sure my heel to your chest was no big deal.. and besides, you almost crushed me to death. Moving on...
The staff at the Brickhouse is friendly, efficient and attentive. The girl with the dark hair in the upstairs bar greeted me each and every time I approached her with a smile and a hello. I think that counts for something. Drinks are reasonable and well made and the sound up there is great. Check it out.
Thanks Brickhouse, see you soon.
They finally got a white beer in stock (UFO White) which made me very happy. Â I've never had their pizza. Â Dover is NOT lacking in pizza options, and Brick House is never going to be the place I go to for pizza. Â But their appetizers (super cheesey nachos - NOT just on the top layer!), Red Sox menu (and drink specials!) during games, and their great salad selection keep me coming back. Â Usually have good music playing and the place scores points for not being pretentious. Â Nice food presentation and relatively friendly staff.
Review Source:The downstairs is a great place for friends to share a booth and catch up. Â If there's nothing going on, I pump lots of money into the juke box and just pretend I'm at home. Â But just a warning, it is expensive. Â They don't win any "best of" awards, but this bar is just a good little place for a get-together. Â Never been upstairs, so I can't speak for that part.
Review Source:I kind of miss the Brickhouse.... but not really.
Don't come for food. Don't come for an interesting beer selection. Don't come here expecting to get a shot a playing pool (it will take forever on a busy night... but during the week it may just be all yours).
Come to sit down stairs on a weeknight when there is no "big game" going on and you might be able to sit in a booth, run the over-priced digital juke box, and enjoy a crisp, cool blueberry ale with friends.
Or pay the cover and head upstairs to see your local "favorites" (different nights for the metal kids, hipster kids, droney kids, and whatnot to keep us all in our places). Â I've quit smoking and I do terribly miss sitting up stairs and chain smoking my way through friend's sets.
This is a new pub to the Dover area. Â The atmosphere is nice. Â Great ceilings and old building in old mill town. Â Lots of wood and stools and seating and bar space and pool tables and games! Â The upstairs features a stage for local performers to strut their stuff. Â Downstairs bar is too small for the amount if business they do. Â It takes forever to get a beer.
