I'm torn on this one mainly because the menu is hit and miss. Â Some of the items like their salads, their BBQ turkey sandwich, and their calzones are great.
But I also ordered a steak sandwich once, and the meat was not seasoned one bit and it was so tough I could barely chew through it.
All in all, fast service, decent prices for what you get, and a nice go-to spot for lunch. Â They do have a good selection of beer, too!
I have to say that this review is a few months coming but I have not had a chance to submit my review prior. Here's what happened in December of 2012...
After getting a Christmas tree from Apple Hill with my family and friends we decided to find a place in Placerville to eat lunch. We are all avid beer lovers and found this place on Yelp. After looking at the reviews it sounded like the perfect place to get a beer and some pizza. We had 3 children with us all under 6 but hey the website said family friendly so we felt safe. Â Wow were we wrong.
We walked in and every person at the bar glared at us like we had entered a private party. The bartender barely acknowledged us as we took a seat and looked at the menu. From the pictures on the website the pizza looked good but the rest of the menu was just ok and nothing looked spectacular especially for the prices. We ordered a round of beers and sodas for the kids while we decided.
I'm not an overprotective parent but the next thing was too much for me and my husband the "Christmas" music started it was full of curse words and HIGHLY inappropriate for a "family" friendly atmosphere. We paid our tab and left immediately. Eventually ending at a place down the street with a much better atmosphere and attitude. Â
I'd never ever go to this place again even without my children. The people were rude and uninviting. And the atmosphere felt unwelcoming for sure.
Love this bar. I was here on business and stumbled across this place... Way better than the dive I found across the street. I think it was called sketchy's or sparkles or somethin stupid. Anyways, the people here treated you right and the bartenders were nice to look at too. I ended up coming here most nights I was in town; I liked it that much. The crowd was mixed. I saw some older gentleman and some younger dudes. Either way, the beer was cold (all 25 or so on tap) and the music was good. I don't think I'll be back in Placerville for awhile but I hope this spot is still there when I do come around again. I had a regular pizza one night, but the bread pizza was much better in my opinion. Try it.
Review Source:Good beer selection with the % next to each on the menu. The calzone was awesome. Â Creat your own pizza by picking your toppings and sauce only, there were no standard pizzas.
There was a cool little band on a Wednesday night. Not sure if the weed smell came from the kitchen or the band, but either way everything was great.
This place has some amazing food. Fun crowd of nice people to talk with and watch TV. The.  Worlds best selection of beer on tap. The staff treats you like family  fast service. A good place to come weather you with your family friends or just yourself. And you Cant beat the nice and very good looking girls working behind the bar
Review Source:This place still has an amazing on-tap beer selection - including a nice Guinness pour. However, I had an unsettling experience the other evening... and I waited a couple days before updating my previous post to let any emotions dissipate. We were there with a group - ordered dinner, most of us drinking beer. Â My wife had a glass of wine - a local wine we both know quite well. Â The wine was bad - don't know why, but it tasted like vinegar - I tried it as well as a couple of folks from our group. Here's where things went sideways - while the waitress gladly took it back, the manager refused to credit our tab. There was a drink special on that night and the glass was probably $5. Our group was a bit taken aback by this response - delivered by the waitress with an apology. We ate our dinner - which was very good - and stewed on things. In the end the waitress did the right thing when I settled the tab - thank you! Will I eat/drink here again - of course. Â Order a glass of wine... not so sure about that now. I'm just hoping the manager was having a bad day... none of us are regulars, but most of us have settled into a chair here more times than we'd care to admit!
Review Source:Well, waiting an hour for my lunch is not my idea of a good time. had the pizza even been tolerable, they would have more stars. I don't know how you can manage to make disgusting pizza but they have mastered it. I got a basic half cheese have veggie and it was hardly edible. but I didn't feel like dealing with the unfriendly staff and rowdy atmosphere so I left highly unsatisfied.
Don't waste your time! Unless you're just going for beer, because the selection is decent!
I've revised my review from a 5 star to a 4.
All the food I've had is always fantastic without a doubt. I've had a few salads, calzone and the pia bread is always amazing.
But it seems they are a little slower everytime. The last time there it took over a half an hour to get 2 salads and they were running at maybe 25% capacity.
We had a pepperoni, mushroom and onion pizza. It had a nice crunchy, thin crust. The wide draft beer selection was impressive. The bartender was cute and friendly. The pizza arrived promptly. A dozen or so young men were at the far end watching soccer and having a lot of laughs. The atmosphere was low key. We really enjoyed ourselves.
Review Source:Excellent beer selection. Â For those who like microbrews -you will love i!. Â We stopped in after an awesome mountain bike ride and had the Auburn Ale. Â Fantastic! The nachos were the bomb. Â If I was to say just one thing I didnt like, it would probably be the ambience - It could use a little warming up. Â Hard chairs, hard bar stools - kind of sterile feeling for a bar. Â Good thing their staff is friendly, their beer excellent and good food. Â Just bring your own seat cushion and you will be fine! Â ;)
Review Source:I came by to see Achilles Wheel, and was pleasantly surprised by their wonderful beer selection on tap, including some wonderful doubles. Â I was very happy with my calzone, too. It was very fresh, packed and filling. The whole experience...food, beer, music, friendly staff and patrons, made this a five star night!
Review Source:The pizza AND the sandwiches are AMAZING! Â Hands down the best pizza in the immediate Placerville area. Â Both the pizza dough and the bread are definitely made from scratch in their brick oven and taste wonderful. Â The beer selection is AWESOME and is reasonably priced ($3 to $6, depending on the beer). Â There is a bar as well as booths and tables, so it has a touch of intimacy and classiness while still feeling casual. Â Highly recommended!
Review Source:We came in last night with some old friends. Â The place was packed but all the employees were friendly. We had some great beer. Â I had the Werewolf ale and loved it. My friend Todd had the "Old Speckled Hen". Â
We had awesome hot wings, potato skins. Â Our friends both had the Reuben sandwich and said it was simply great!. Â It's a great local place with a lot of locals and the most microbrews I've seen on tap in the area! Â We live in Citrus Heights but when we are in the area we always try to hit the Brick Oven!
Highly Recommend!!!
This place should be great--bunch o' beers on tap and all. Â But how do you deal with a bartender who sneers at you when you ask for a lemon to go with your Hefeweisen and tells you it will "ruin the taste." Â I guess only losers like lemon with Franziskaner. Â Hey man, I wanted a beer, not a lesson in haute culture, Pville style.
Review Source:We went on Friday 18th of March, the new owner is very nice, but the lady behind the bar was rude to a few people in our group. Then when we checked out, I asked for an itemized list of what we had and there was an extra beer on it, I told her my wife and I only had two each and she stated "that is what I wrote down". I checked to verify if my wife had a third and she had not. I paid our bill and left but will not return while this lady is at the bar. Maybe it was a bad day for her, not sure, but she had too many chances was rude to each of us and then to over charge was the last straw for me.
Review Source:I can't tell you how stoked I am to have this establishment not too far from home. They have a constant variety of WONDERFUL beers. Like- you won't find this good of a selection on tap or as good of pricing ANYWHERE in the foothill or Folsom area. Believe me, I have done my customer experience research. They are extremely knowledgeable about beer here. The local Homebrewers Association have meetings here because the place absolutely PROMOTES love of beer.
This place offers my favorite beer ever as a secret beer. Ask for the mystery beer if you are willing to shell out 5$. It's worth its weight in hops. Â I won't elaborate except that my heart is filled with gratitude for the existence of this place. Just a few years back, it was terribly hard to find good beer anywhere in the vicinity of Placerville. I'm not talking about mediocre, OK beer. I am talking about AMAZING beers from all over the west coast from breweries like Russian River, Firestone, Lost Coast, Green Flash, Â Mammoth...... it kills me. I adore this place.
The round pizzas are the best! Especially the small ones cause the crust is so very perfect every time. The salads are good, and the happy hour Wednesday snacks and beer are great deals. The only reason this place doesn't get five stars from me is  that I am such an ambience kind of person and think a few more windows and or outdoor seating would do wonders. That's not really the establishment's fault though, they ARE in a strip mall. And in a weird way, I kind of like that.
Read about this place on the Sacramento Beer Week website prior to Beer Week. Thought we'd take a little drive and do a sneak preview. From the information provided, it sounded too good to be true, especially when we found the place located in a strip mall!
The moment we walked in we were greeted with warmth by the Bartender, Dana. She made us feel immediately welcome like we were long-time, local patrons. Had a great time with her and the two regulars at the bar. Oh! The beer- yeah, VERY impressive beer list. Beers I have not seen on anyone's repertoire....how does this little place get these great beers!? Who cares...they've got 'em. Even the "secret" beer with the missing spigot- Dana shared with us the secret even though we weren't regulars nor locals.
When it came time to leave, Dana and the two regulars pleaded with us not to go...ahhh that was sweet. We had so much fun we returned the next day and Dana (this time on the fun side of the bar) immediately recognized us, greeted us and even remembered our names!
Love, love, love this place....just wish we lived closer!
Very friendly service. Jen, the bartender, introduced herself and took great care of us.
Great pizza. The pizza only comes in one size, which is a bummer. That one size is just a little larger than one person can eat by him/herself, but too small really to share. Another bummer. They should really try to add more sizes. But, the end result is very tasty. They offer two sauce choices, green pesto or the red sauce. I got both, half/half. Each pizza is custom. They offer an adequate selection of topping choices.
Great beer. The selection of beer they have on tap is EXCELLENT! And, the price per pint is decent as well.
I used to love this pub, in fact I was here at least once a week for a long time under the last owner. It has an EXCELLENT beer selection. If the food is the same under the new owner it should still be excellent. I especially liked the french bread pizzas made on Tony's homemade bread. It's a great place to go in and play darts, relax and watch the game, or gab with friends. Thursday night's pub trivia is also pretty fun.
However, since my last experience I refuse to return. To make a long story short, the barmaid's absolutely rude attitude with me (when I was in there with someone familiar to her, even!) was excused by the OWNER because the "men [male patron's] like her." The new owner is absolutely off-putting and it I refuse to support someone who feels how I'm treated as a customer isn't as important because I don't have testicles.
(On a side note, I've heard the barmaid doesn't work there anymore... but that's not really what got my knickers in a knot anyways.)
An oasis of good beer just a little off the 50!--after crossing the freeway, it's on the right side in a plaza, just past the big grocery store plaza.
After dodging bad drivers left & right, a pit stop here is surely in order!
Be sure to bring someone that can drink the rest of your beer so you're not tempted to drink the whole thing and then have to wait around waiting to not be under the influence--(I can be such a lightweight sometimes!)
The pizza was alright, I loved the Reuben, very tasty, but pick something else besides the chicken sandwich, chicken breast is just too easy to make very dry & boring despite pesto--what I was tickled by was their creative use of pizza dough leftovers (or so I presume) to be made into house sandwich buns, how fun!
Good pizza. Good beers. Lost one star for only having one size of pizza. Lost another star for being too costly. Gains one star back for having some a nice selection of what turned out to be very fresh toppings - except loses one more star for the savory (not sweet) pineapple, which was in a way though a nice change (sort of) from the expected, so real star value I give is about 3.5 ...
I'll go back, if someone else is buying, they lower their prices, or if they start offering larger size pizzas.
Pizza was pretty good. Â I liked the ability to pick your own toppings and there are quite a few to choose from. Â Nice personal sized pizza and the sauces are good. Â
Beer selection was pretty awesome for Placerville. Â I don't think I know of anywhere else around here with quite that much of a selection. Â Wine selection was ok, not too diversified but some good wines.
Atmosphere is very causal but not bad for a pizza place. Definitely classier than the other Placerville pizza joints. Â
I will certainly be going  back for some beer and pizza.
I really can't figure out how this place warrants 5 stars. I've had better sandwiches at Quiznos for cryinoutloud.
I was all excited reading these reviews "brick oven!" "pizza!" woo! But no, there is no pizza. We ordered the "pizza sandwiches" and what we received can only be described as slightly better than a Stouffer's frozen frenchbread pizza.
Maybe it's because I grew up poor, and when we were really low on cash, my mom fed us baked french bread pizza. This took me right back to my ghetto childhood - except my mom's pizzas were better. The pizza sandwich I had was so salty I couldn't even eat half of it. Yuck.
I'm giving the place 3 stars because they do indeed have a great beer selection and had a cider on tap, which is rare to find. If I wanted to just come here and drink beer and cider, I probably would. But I won't touch the food here again.
I really am having trouble understanding why a restaurant would put in an awesome brick oven, and then use it to make mediocre sandwiches. Sigh. So disappointed.
Absolutely great! Â The most comprehensive beer selection I have ever seen this side of Sacramento. Â The prices are low, but the quality is high on every angle. The food, the service and the vibe in general are all great. Â If more people knew about this place there would be a line out the door. Â As for now, it's the best kept secret in El Dorado County.
Review Source:I'd been wanting to stop by here for awhile and had the opportunity to swing by for lunch recently. They have an excellent selection of beers on tap and the Chicken Pesto sandwich was delicious! I look forward to going back and trying some of the other beers and menu items. I also hear good things about their dinner menu but can't speak first hand yet although I plan to try it soon.
Review Source:One of the best selections of good beer on tap I have witnessed in my 30 years. The owner used to own a brewery but now owns this place and does an incredible job of keeping the very best beers on tap. He keeps a bunch of IPAs, a cider, and the only mass produced beer on the rail is PBR. That is doing it right. Have only eaten there once. The food was good. Pizza cooked over a wood fired oven. The beer selection overwhelmed me though.
Review Source:While Placerville is not a destination for most people, it is a place holder or space filler for those heading to Lake Tahoe. Or who happen to be in the area and need nourishment. We happened to be in the area for some white water rafting and thankfully found Brick Oven Pub. A pub in name that serves great pizza bread baked fresh daily and cooked in their pseudo brick oven. By that I mean you see the bricks until you peer over the counter and see 21st century below.
Located in one of the few shopping centers in town. It stands alone among the other two pizza places and the In-and-Out most people visit. Owned by the former owner of Placerville Brewing Company the beer list is impressive. Not impressive for Placerville, but impressive for anywhere. Anything from a Moylan's Hopsickle to Speakeasy's Big Daddy to Racer 5 IPA. T
Now onto the pizza. One order costs under $7 and you get your choice of three toppings. Quite generous and at a good price. If you are starving order your own, or you can split one. Pay for your brews and pizza (no better combination) have a seat and prepare to enjoy.
