Pleasantly nice bar. Cuisine is heavily French-inspired. Nice ambiance. The waitstaff is friendly & knowledgeable.

I've tried to inform Yelp but this place is closed. The people at Thistle n Mirth told us the owners tried a different concept around August (I think) which didn't work so the restaurant is now completely closed.

My gal pals and I LOVE to come here after yoga for a few drinks and some apps or even a meal.

To say that I adore french food would be a huge understatement. It's hands down one of my favorite cuisines, a cuisine that I not only prepare in my home but avidly search for when eating out.

Brix is GOOD, and not just good for Pittsfield but good in that it would do quite well plopped in any cosmopolitan city.

The owner is interested and involved in his business, and loves to hear feedback and ideas from customers. He can always be found in-house, chatting with regulars and meeting new diners.

For the appetizers, I absolutely adore the authentic Montreal-style poutine (gravy covered fries with cheese curds), but the pate plate is also phenomenal and sumptuous.

They have an amazing selection of wine but if wine isn't your thing, their bartender can mix you up something special (I love a custom drink they make for me with chocolate bitters that tastes a bit like a grown up chocolate covered cherry, YUM!).

The main courses are absolutely lovely, the croque madame is a personal favorite but they rotate in and out plenty of others, like cassoulets and roasted duck. Desserts are typically rustic but flavorful and tasty.

As far as atmosphere goes I personally think Brix is one of the most romantic ambiances in Pittsfield. It's moody and dark without being overwhelming and still isn't "romance-oriented" enough to make it awkward to just enjoy a meal or drinks with friends.

This is a nice little place with really good service. No wine for me but I had a great beer. The food was average. The salmon dish was disappointing but my appetizer was good.

HUGE selection of wines!! Food is pretty good. Nice atmosphere. It's kinda small and narrow inside so a group of young ladies at a large table made it a little loud and there was only us and another couple in the place. Overall a nice place to frequent.

I did not have any food here, so this rating is purely on the wine selection, price, and knowledge of the owner.

I could not make a decision on a wine when I came here. I knew I wanted a dry white, nothing too oaky, but something with a lot of flavor. I decided to try the white wine flight, as it was a heavy sample of all five of their whites they sell by the glass for I believe $6 or $7 (don't quote me on that - I just remember it not being overly expensive). After trying all of the wines and liking, but not loving any of them, I tried to explain to our server what kind of wine I was looking for to see if she could give me any recommendations.

She couldn't. And I appreciate that she didn't try to bullshit me with a recommendation when she didn't have the knowledge of the wine to back it up.

Instead, she went and brought the owner over to our table who talked to me for a bit about what I was looking for (the above characteristics I mentioned) and a price point ($30 or less for the bottle), gave me a huge smile and said he would be right back. He brought me a sample and told me to taste it before he told me what it was. I tried it and it was PERFECT. Seriously, exactly what I wanted. He told me it wasn't on the menu yet as he had just gotten it in that day, and he was able to sample it for me as it was what he personally was drinking. It was one of my favorite types and also one of the most elusive wines in the US - the dry Riesling.

The intuitiveness of the owner, combined with this perfect wine experience, made this a place I will without a doubt return to on my next visit to Pittsfield.

I deleted my last review from a year and a half ago, when the food was dreadful. If it didn't delete at least I can update it. I went last night and the food was great. I also like the atmosphere, not formal, yet not overly casual. I had the spinach salad and the hanger steak and agree with the reviewer who said t wasn't juts Pittsfield good but anywhere good. Hooray! We needed this...HOWEVER the service took forever. We arrived at 8:15 and left at 9:45. Some of us had to leave earlier (to save us seats in the theater) so ended up taking their food in to-go boxes to eat at midnight, after the movie! In fact our entrees only came when we mentioned--at 9:30, after we'd been there 1 1/2 hours--we were going to have to leave, and we ate in 10 minutes. And by that time the restaurant had cleared out. When I complained the waitperson made no apology and said we should have told her we had time constraints. Wondering when it would have come otherwise?

But it was GOOD! The most important thing. I WILL go back, but will be careful to ask WHEN to expect the dishes to be brought out.

Fun fact: Brix is actually a good restaurant. Not Pittsfield good; anywhere good.

I come to Pittsfield periodically for work, and I never relish the idea of hotel grub and gut-rot fast food. After reading Joi B.'s review, I decided to wander across the street and try Brix. (This may have been the best decision ever made in Pittsfield by anyone)

The experience here totally blew me away. The owner hung out at my table, recommended food and drink orders, talked nerd shop, and generally was as congenial and welcoming as i've ever seen. The setting was gorgeous; clever and simplistic all at once, with dim lights and comfy overstuffed chairs. The music was great, and the selection of drinks on the menu was clearly made by someone who loves a great brew.

The food? Out of this world. I had the Strip steak with garlic frittes, tastefully coupled with a garlic mayo that was light and delicious. I enjoyed every last bite, stashing the rest for later so that I would still have room for the Chocolate Pot du Creme. (As an aside, the Pot Du Creme here was so good I instantly looked up the recipe at home and made it myself for a VERY special occasion)

I will happily return here on any Pittsfield trip, because nothing else here will likely ever compare to this cozy little wine bar.

Every time I go to Pittsfield I have to admit what's running through my head might very well be, "it's the pits." Really, it isn't the *absolute* pits, but there's something depressingly vacant about the town center, for instance. I mean, I've seen towns in Missouri with more activity going on (note: I've seen some pretty scary small town action in Missouri).

What you can easily imagine would be the ghosts of former residents running around wringing their hands in distress over the state of things. I mean, hello, this is the bloody Berkshires, the area Manhattanites go when they think the Catskills are passé, and it's too cold to waste a weekend better spent in the Hamptons. "We need to see some fall foliage." *mew snark whine* "We need trees and mountains and it must be at least three hours away from The City or it'll be too pedestrian." WhatEV.

Pittsfield sure ain't where they are going, I'm sure. It's just where I go, because it's where my friend lives. Or used to live and escaped, only to move back (sorry, darlin').

That said, imagine my surprise when I saw there wasn't only some acceptable starchy food option on a sticky diner menu, but a place I would call a destination spot.

Enter Brix Wine Bar and enter Joi B and Jeremy S into its haven off of Main Street USA.

Let it be known that the plan was to go to Montreal that evening for Jeremy's 30th birthday to his favorite restaurant, Au Pied de Couchon http://www.yelp.ca/biz/a… (where he somehow got a reservation just 3 weeks prior)... only, uh, I forgot my damn passport in Kansas City. I realized this as my train pulled into Albany.

You have to understand something about Jeremy S. He's the type of friend that wouldn't go to Montreal to have a good time without me, as much as I urged him to do so. Are you kidding? No.

He's the type to not go and delight on accompanying me on a looooong guilt trip instead.

He kidnapped me to Lake Placid first, despite my lack of appropriate footwear for snow and mountains (or at least, unploughed parking lots) We hit a couple wineries. Slid a bit on the snow. Then he suggested instead of having me blowing a week's salary on a hotel room, we go to Brix Wine Bar instead. Wait, in pitiful Pittsfied? Are you effing kidding me? That can't mean for a happy birthday...

So starteth the night...with a guilt trip and a desire for good wine and cheese. I can't say much about their cheese platter beyond, if you appreciate such things for what they are, you will not be disappointed here. I could easily dine on wine and cheese for the rest of my life if it's good wine and the best cheese, and so it is at Brix. I won't go on about it. It's cheese. It's not processed. It might be blue. It might have a rosemary crust. It might be from Switzerland. It might be tangy. It might very well make your night.

But then there's the entrees, if you must.

What I will go on about is that Joad, the owner, went above and beyond what he had to do to satisfy the likes of my demanding friend and I. Thank GOD Jeremy was already friends with him because I would have kicked him if he told a proprietor without any prior notice, at 10pm no less, "Make me something special. you know what I like." And then of course, there was me asking for another thing that's not on the menu, "Something vegetarian" and *amazing,* was implied.

And we got just what we asked for. Does it make sense for me to tell you what this is so you can get your hopes up? Joad buys according to different variables: season, demand, etc., so you're not necessarily going to get the same thing as we got when you leave things up to chance (and challenge). But this is a wonderful thing if you like being surprised. Take it from me. It's going to be good. I'm picky. I hate bell peppers, onions and carrots. Most places that don't cater to vegetarians offer up dishes featuring both. I was served a plate of food that was simply exquisite-fresh, tasty, unique and completely unexpected.

Then there's the environs: a cozy, dark room, with nary a loud annoying person in sight. That alone is worth 3 stars in my book. That the food is at an incredible quality and value? Another star. That the owner is awesome and especially accommodating, not to mention might end up closing the joint with you and a cocktail or three? There aren't enough stars.

Hey, I escaped the Guilt Trip! I mean...my snob of a friend was *happy* at the end of the night, despite the lack of winding up in a French-speaking country at a renowned restaurant. There's a lot to be said for that.

A perfect night. I say that rarely. Trust me. I also use terms like "unexpected gem" sparingly. But this holds true at Brix. I mean, it's *Pittsfield* where blue blood ghosts of the past are running rampant and cursing politicians and residents alike for accepting the ruin of a town that once might have been something.

And I daresay, they leave Brix Wine Bar alone.

Wandered across the street from my hotel on a freezing Nov. night and was happy to find great food and service.

I was traveling alone and the servers were all very nice, offering me reading material, etc...The onion soup was amazing and I'm a harsh critic of onion soup! I had the macaroni w/the small salad- the greens were delicious, very fresh and topped with a light dressing and the best salt I've ever tasted. I asked what kind it was and they said it was just a regular sea salt- none like I've ever had. The macaroni was good, but I like mine a little cheesier. Everything else was wonderful.

Great wine selection, atmosphere, food and amazing service!

i read in several places that Brix was one of the bright spots in the otherwise dismal culinary landscape of Pittsfield, MA. we were in the Berkshires for the weekend and figured, well, why not?

it ended up being a rather uneven experience. the ambiance is great. it was a chilly night, and the restaurant was warm and cozy and smelled delicious and comforting. we ordered the red wine flight to start, which is great for a person like me who doesn't like most wine enough to commit to a full glass (i am a craft beer girl). i ordered a salad with candied walnuts and beets with greens, it sounds strange but the way the walnuts complemented the beets was a stroke of genius. i ordered a burger with frites. the frites were flavorful and crispy and the burger was done medium rare just beautifully.

however, i am giving it two stars because the service was atrocious, in a stuck up, holier than thou French kind of way. i don't know if we were dressed incorrectly or didn't pass muster for the wait staff (for the record, i was wearing a casual dress and my boyfriend was wearing a button down shirt). we were seated at approximately the same time as an older couple to our left, and a party of four younger people to our right. their food came out much sooner than ours, and they both got complimentary bread, whereas we did not. our waitress never asked us how our food was, and she walked around the bistro with such a snooty air that i was prompted to lean across the table and say to my boyfriend, "Um, she's a waitress at a decent French bistro in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. i don't know what her problem is."

i hate to have one person maybe having a bad day ruin a meal for me, but it came pretty darn close. there was a gentleman who i assume was a manager who was far more attentive than she was and seemed to be running a tight ship.

that said, the food is good, the atmosphere cozy. that i was highly impressed (though somewhat dubious) at the framed certificate from Wine Spectator near the bathrooms that proclaimed Brix to have one of the top 5 wine selections in the country. i dunno. like i said, i'm a beer girl.

Love, love, love this place- Never disappointed! French Bistro style (though not bistro prices) food is made with love and you can taste it. Wine selection as the name would suggest is good. It's a fun place to eat and with the exception of Trattoria Rustica (located right around the corner) the most enjoyable restaurant in Pittsfield

Last night, my friend and I ate a great meal at Brix. My friend had a nice pan-roasted duck breast with a cranberry sauce with a quinoa something or other on the side. I'm a sucker for a cheese plate and charcuterie. So, I ordered the aptly named 1/2 Fromage, 1/2 Charcuterie. It was quite enough food for the two of us.

Both orders were great. The duck breast was a perfect medium rare with a crisped-up skin. The cranberries and quinoa were a sweet complement to the savory duck, and they balanced the duck perfectly. On my 1/2 cheese, 1/2 charcuterie plate, I had a great pate--the ingredients of which I can't remember--a brie, a couple of bleus, what seemed like a gouda, some great meats, cornichons, apple slices, honey, pickled onions, and more. I enjoyed it immensely.

As far as wine is concerned, I think Brix has a great wine list. As far as I was concerned, they had me at Morgan's Tondre Grapefield Pinot Noir. It was a great variety of domestic and imported stuff. I thought it was a thoughtfully put together wine list with a lot of great stuff at varying price points.

Dessert was lovely with some great chocolates from a local chocolatier. Joad, the

The restaurant had a nice dark/ romantic ambiance without seeming pretentious. The waitress was friendly and personable, but not invasive. I recommend starting with the wine sampler (four small glasses of wine, ranging from light to dry for 10 dollars). The wine menu in general has a great range, both in terms of region and price, starting from the low $20s.

The food was inconsistent- I had the kobe beef burger - perfectly cooked, fresh, and juicy. Served with a bed of delicious (maybe a little over-salted) shoestring fries, the dish was perfect for the bistro environment it was served in. My boyfriend had the duck breast- it was chewy, served lukewarm and with a sweet and odd-textured risotto.

Prices were a little steep, but for a nice night out, this restaurant can really hit the spot.

I've heard nothing but great things about Brix, so, of course, we had to try it. Unfortunately, everything sort of fell short. The best thing about Brix is their flight of wines - five reds or whites for $10. We ordered both and all were superb.

Since we love French food, we were eager to try a few things from the menu (despite the fact that we weren't really hungry). First, we had the recommended escargot w/truffle egg toast. Basically there was a fried egg on toast surrounded by escargot. I didn't taste any truffle and it was all pretty bland. Next, we had a salad of Equinox greens with goat cheese, pumpkin seeds, and I can't remember what else in a lemon vinaigrette and it was tasty. Frites were nice - shoestring style in cone - came w/mayo. Now for the big disappointment - the duck which came on quinoa risotto - highly recommended by the staff. The quinoa was good, but the duck was pretty awful. We didn't send it back, but probably should have. It was pinkish raw looking; maybe they put it under a heat lamp? Or microwaved? I don't know, but it just did not taste good - gamey & chewy. We skipped dessert.

So, Brix wasn't as good as I'd hoped:( Oh, well....

I love going to Brix for the food, the wine, and the atmosphere. You can always count on the friendly staff to recommend a wine to go with what you're in the mood to eat. And you know how when something tastes really good, you can eat every last bit even tho your stomach is telling you it's full? That's how this place is.
Go with time to linger, and enjoy!

Fabulous French bistro whose chef was once Meryl Streep's and boy she was lucky to have her. Reasonably priced too. I love the housemade pate, the salads, and the delectable brunch on Sundays. Great service and cozy atmosphere. A find. I'm a frequent diner there.

Loved this place. Staff is friendly, casual, attractive, hip. Food is excellent, with generous portions. I had lamb chops with very fluffy mashed potatoes and really tasty spinach. Friends had a duck leg, a salade nicoise, and a variety of vegetarian sides. All good. Wine by the glass was about $10, give or take a dollar or two. Good selection of wine by the bottle, heavy on the French offerings. I noticed they had a few Washington wines and weren't doubling the price, the way so many restaurants do.

I'm giving it a 4, but it's really really good.

French food fabulousness!

This is some of the best french food. You can't go wrong with Brix. I've frequented here a few times for brunch and have yet to be underwhelmed. The croque madame, eggs benedict, and omelettes are all amazing dishes. The prices and portions are right on par.

The bellinis and mimosas are a great morning treat : )

Definitely check out Brix for a great brunch. The service is great too.

And word on the street is that the chef used to be Meryl Streep's personal chef.

**Deal Seeking Diva tip** Check out the wine flight for $10. You get to taste 4 wines for $10, red and white flights are available.

Affordable and exotic at the same time, the local fresh ingredients in every dish at Brix leave you wholesomely satisfied and happy. There is no more knowledgeable place when it comes to wine - their recommendations have always been spot on and there isn't a bad bottle on their list. It's easily my most favorite restaurant in Pittsfield.

Yowza! This place opened 3 days ago and we dined on a Sunday night. Service was awesome. Decor is kick ass cool. Tomato soup is so fresh, kids menu is great (sloppy Craigs named after the chef). I love wine, but didn't recognize much of the wine on the list. Actually that was great because I had the syrah flight and a glass of white that blew me away for not so $$$$. Family of four that loves to dine spent $125 plus tip and felt like we got a great bargin for a really relaxing delicious night out. Will be back (like...once a week).
PS - You can dine for less, but we we love our wine and ordered more than usual :)
