I've been dragged to the Brooklynite by friends a few too many times and I always find it a bit too pretentious for my taste. The drinks are alright and the prices about average for a place like this (and you can always buy a Lone Star for $3.50 if fancy cocktails aren't your thing).
This place seems like it's trying too hard. The same thing goes for its patrons.
Straight from his venture working at the Esquire. Rob is one of the best mixologists in the Southwest, if not the entire nation.
Its nice to confidently put your decision making into this mixologists hands and allow him to create cocktails that are frankly exceptional.
Its cool to see that the artisan cocktail scene in this town is really upping their game and I would encourage you to try the Brooklynite as its one of the best out there.
Cin Cin.
Excellent cocktail bar. The room is beautiful, but not as beautiful as the cocktails you'll find inside. An excellent mix of classic, pre-Prohibition drinks and newer ones. If you're looking for something as good as--or better--than a New York City cocktail lounge in San Antonio, you've found it at the Brooklynite.
Review Source:I really like the idea of this place. But the concept of the place does not mean the actual experience of the place. The Brooklynite is not very original, but originality doesn't really matter so long as it is actually a good bar.
We didn't have a reservation, but we were fine with having a seat at one of the high tables. The table top was a bit sticky and stained though. Ick. The main room was too warm and had weak air circulation. My friend and I fanned ourselves to stave off the stuffiness. If they really wanted us to feel like we were in a speakeasy from the 1920s, as the theme insists, it worked, because I don't think they had modern air conditioners back then either. The area by the bar was a little cooler, however. Also, I did not take too kindly to the taxidermied boars/wild pigs as decor. So atrocious. But that's just my opinion. There were definitely welcome distractions from these facts.
I'm guessing that the bar is run by people who are in my generation because my whole sensory experience was bombarded by nostalgia. Take for instance the tvs. They had three big screen tvs, each screening a recognizable film from the 80s: Big Trouble in Little China, The Karate Kid, and some Jean Claude Van Damme movie. The music being piped in over head was a steady playlist of songs from my high school/early college days. The White Stripes, Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand, et cetera, all circa 2002-2006. This is an aspect that I particularly liked because it fit my musical tastes. However, it made me feel old. Lol.
Unlike other negative reviewers, I thought the drinks were the best thing about this place. Yes their drinks can be expensive, but really, if you're on a budget, it doesn't take a lot to look at the menu--the prices are there! They have a great selection of cocktails for under $10. I recommend the South Side, and my friend said that her drink, the Jack Rose, was also really good. They were delicious and had a strength to them without the reek of alcohol--just the way cocktails are supposed to be.
There are food trucks parked outside, and I would not recommend the bbq truck. Maybe the tapas truck is better. The guy at the bbq truck was obnoxious and the food was only ok.
There are things to like about this place, really. But the whole experience just didn't come together for me. The bottom line is, if someone could somehow combine the good things about the Havana Bar with the good things about The Brooklynite, then we might have a winner.
Really loved this place. From the time we walked in, to the time we got settled into the bar to grab a drink, you feel welcomed. The night we were there the two food trucks were serving up some delicious food including braised rib tacos that were really frickin' delicious.
the bartenders and the selection of drinks/beers/wine make this an even better destination if you'd like to step away (a little bit) from the downtown scene. (Listen up tourists.) The inside is pretty roomy, so don;t worry about crowds.
Definitely recommended.
BKSA is a top 2 bar in San Antonio for me. Â They mix some truly amazing cocktails and have food trucks out front to help soak up some of the boozy concoctions that they create.
This place truly has something for everyone on any given night of the week. Â From Cheap Ass Monday with $5 Old Fashioned's and Frozen Fancies and $2 Lone stars running all night to Tiki Tuesday with the pineapples and rum to the viewing parties on Sundays (Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and Movie Nights between the series). Â Oh and trivia on Sundays after the shows with prizes for the winners! Â
As you can see BKSA can satiate any of your drinking desires but that isn't all. Â The main reason that I am here at least once a week and I am giving it a 5 star review is the service. Â Jeret prides himself on having great service no matter how busy the bar is. Â You are greeted at the door by a hostess on the busy nights (Fri and Sat). Â On the off nights you will be lucky to get to the bar before someone welcomes you. Â
I highly recommend making reservations if you have a group going, especially on a Fri or Sat as they keep a tight watch on the capacity to ensure everyone has a good time and they do not have to wait too long for their drinks. Â
Speaking of a wait for drinks please be aware going in that you are getting hand crafted cocktails. Â If you want something served to you in 30 seconds make sure you order either a beer or one of the frozen or tap cocktails. Â Yes I said tap and cocktail together. Â BKSA has Old Fashioned's on tap. Â Premixed and diluted (yes they took into account the dilution rate when stirred with the ice) to speed up the service to you. Â

While not quite a devotee, I will admit that I've slowly warmed up to everyone's favorite bar, The Brooklynite. Â After a handful of visits and trying numerous drinks (most by force..) I finally figured out where this bar excels for me.
When I'm seated at the bar after work on a Wednesday and downing whatever ridiculously delicious punch served up (most recently, a watermelon aguas frescas concoction), I feel like this place can totally be my kind of scene. If you're like me and enjoy mellow and relaxed atmosphere with refreshing cocktails this is the way to enjoy The Brooklynite. Â Now on Friday - Sunday nights when there isn't a seat available at the bar, I enjoy it much less but that's more because I hate crowds and struggling to catch a servers attention for a drink.
For fellow semi anti-social and impatient drinkers, I highly suggest The Brooklynite after five for Wednesdays' "Punch the Hump" special. Â I also hear good things about their "Cheap Ass Mondays" special!
While hobo-ing through San Antonio last week, I decided to try BKSA since so many people had recommended it. Â There were a couple of groups inside, but plenty of bar space and seating in this hybrid speakeasy-saloon. Â The barkeep was superbly efficient. Â And when I gently leaned on him (figuratively!) for some info on the cocktails, his knowledge was masterful and bested any other I met in the SA area. Â
Each drink seemed clean, and with each ingredient being subtly available to both smell and taste.  No unintentional muddling of flavors.  The menu was impressive in number and variation, but didn't leave me feeling overwhelmed by unnecessary options.  And if youre not into the spirits, they have plenty of beers and whatnot to get you wherever you may be going.
But what really put the hook in me was being able to bring inside some of the best prime rib, and probably the only smoked prime rib, Ive ever had from the food truck right outside their front door. Â
 Highly recommended, and not overpriced.
A great locals bar in northern downtown San Antonio with a "speak-easy" vibe. While a few tourists might find there way to this place, for the most part it is a local scene. After work, you shouldn't have a problem getting a seat but late night on the weekends this place does get fairly crowded. The bartenders are friendly, knowledgeable, fast and efficient. The drinks are unique and well made. The crowd is fairly diverse, hipster to business types.
The only negative thing I could say about this place is the price of the drinks, even happy hour isn't that happy but the service and ambiance more than make up for it.
Best bar in Texas! I was highly impressed with this establishment for a multitude of reasons. It is very true the name attracted me but my five stars and statement are not without just cause. Let me explain.
We start walking to the bar and I'm wondering if it's going to be a good crowd, late on a Thursday night. We turn onto Brooklyn Ave and it looks kind of dead. Getting worried as we approach the door and voila! I hear women and laughter, score.
Before I head in my friends say they want to grab something at the food truck. They start talking to the gentlemen at the food truck. My friend grabs smoked prime rib. I try a bite which was pretty tasty. He informs me how his products are rare. He tries to sell me on his shrimp and grits. I notify him I've had them before and I'm a big fan. He states that I must be from the south. I quickly assure him that he is wrong, that I am from Brooklyn, New York. He immediately stares at me, confused and says "Brooklyn?!?!" Similar to how these guys says "New York City?!?!"
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Ffeature%3Dplayer_embedded%26v%3DmSxnieYctVM&s=bcd69b82e745d420df0b6192d7946219a7c575bc112f4a1cf0643a2b8653e927" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/w…</a>
I tell him how Brooklyn has become the food culture central of the world.... on top of being the best. (Hence the name of the establishment you are parked next to.)
Now for the bar. I step in and it's just like a cocktail bar back in Brooklyn. Most people are dressed above average. People sipping on drinks served in martini glasses, long ball glasses, short ball glasses, champagne saucers and wine glasses. I sit at the bar and order PB&J, a drink infused with hints of peanut butter and jelly. Reminds me of the peanut butter drink from PDT in Manhattan. Very tasty. I begin to talk to the bartender, Rob, who is the man. Rob talks about the business and how it came to be. He informs me how the owner of the Brooklynite actually worked at The Esquire before starting up this place and really changed around that place. I inform him how we were just there earlier in the night, loved it and can now see why. These people know what they are doing at The Brooklynite. Rob made me an off the menu cocktail drink. Apple Brandy, sour, sugar, egg whites and bitters. That was something special. Met some cool people that night. It was a great time.
Two mornings later at a Yelp event, community manager Gloria C chatted up about The Brooklynite with me. She informed me that Sunday night they'll be airing The Walking Dead and doing trivia afterwards. Plays the Walking Dead and has trivia? This sounds like a bar in....... Brooklyn.
Swung through Sunday night after a Spurs game. Sure enough they had The Walking Dead on. I sat back, had some more great cocktails and enjoyed. Met the bartender Adrian who really knows what he's doing. I asked for his version of a dark and stormy. Could be the best one I ever had.
Great times at The Brooklynite. While I was away in Texas, it was home away from home.
So don't shoot me because I gave them 4 stars. I'm pretty positive they are worth the 5 stars that others have given them. It's not you Brooklynite, it's me.
A spur of the moment  Saturday night my crew and I went hopping to celebrate Easter.... get it? Hopping?
I've been wanting to come here for a long time now, I should've known better and went with the YELP team. As the guys I went with drink beer & tequila shots, thus limiting my experience. I did get a Pimms cocktail, I wish I knew the exact name but I had to trade some brain cells for more liver function. I do remember it was very delicious. These guys are classy...... dare I say great competition for the Esquire Tavern. Between the fresh ingredients, ambiance, & service with a smile they had bar science down to the T.
So Brooklynite, I'll drop by your house again to get the full effect. Perhaps on a less busy night so I can take in the experience 100%.
I really like the Brooklynite. We popped in on a Friday night for post dinner drinks. We got a table right away and table service which was really nice. Our server/bartender was very knowledgeable and made a few great recommendations based upon the stuff we like. The drinks were well made, boozy and reasonably priced.
The atmosphere can be described as tasteful, sexy grandma, I guess. You'll know what I mean when you go. This isn't a dive or a pick up bar, it's a place where grown ups can enjoy good booze in a nice atmosphere and not have to yell over a terrible jukebox.
BONUS: If you get hungry, there are food trucks just outside the door which I found REALLY neat. GO down there and get you some....
Love the Brooklynite! Â When I wrote my initial review, I was contacted and was told that my comments were notated and would be fixed. Â And they were! Â The sound is no longer a problem during the viewing parties since they decided to play The Walking Dead out in the main bar area - THREE HUGE SCREENS above the bar AND sound piped throughout the entire Brooklynite! Â Wut wut???!? Â I even heard it in the restroom! Â Awwww yeahhhh...!
Review Source:Alright Alright! I guess I will write my review for one of my top bars to go to. I was introduced to this bar by a friend who took me here so we can enjoy their Walking Dead viewing party. YUP!!! This bar has a viewing party for the Walking Dead and afterwards their is trivia about the show!! It is a lot of fun and an awesome time to be watching the show with fellow fans!
When I first walked into this place I was in love! It doesn't feel like a bar because it is so cozy. I have to agree with Katy about the "pre-prohibition speakeasy" vibe that this place gives. They liquor they serve is not your typical run of the mill liquor but some top quality stuff. The Broooklynite is so far my favorite drink thus far so I highly recommend starting with that drink and venture into others. Plus, if you don't know what type of drink you would like to partake in then you can always ask the staff there. The friendly and knowledgeable staff always suggest some great cocktails to try.
So if you are wondering what to do on your night out in good old San Antonio venture to The Brooklynite!!
Jared you have outdone yourself. I love going to the Brooklynite. The music, the vibe, the people, the bartenders- it's all great.
My new favorite is the Tijuana Tea Bag  . It's a tequila cocktail, but it tastes so smoothe! It's a silent killer :) Not in a bad way! But I bet if you drink too many of these, it can sneak up on your from behind.
The bartenders are quick and attentive so you shouldn't be waiting too long.
The price of the drinks range, the Tijuana Tea Bag will run you about $12, but as my mom has always said, you get what you pay for. You pay for the quality and the craftsmanship of excellent cocktail making. And you won't be disappointed one bit.
If you are in the mood for a particular flavor, just tell the bartender and theyll whip you up something to suit your pallate.
The Brooklynite is my new favorite bar; and if you check it out it will be yours too!
The Brooklynite's awesomeness is disguised by its pretty tame-looking building (be careful, you may miss it.) But once you step inside, its shadowy / vampy / depressed Marie Antoinette decor will charm you. Yes, even you rugged cowboy.
Let me point out with great emphasis that this is not, in my opinion, a hook up bar. I repeat, girl drowning in student loans, go find your sugar daddy somewhere else.
With that said, let's jump to the drinks.
THE DRINKS!
I've tried something different every time I've been, mostly staff recommendations. If you are like me, you will look at the menu for twenty minutes trying to decide. Don't. Just tell the folks behind the bar what you like and they will recommend the perfect concoction. They're like booze psychics.
I recommend their Brooklynite, the philly flip, la bruja and the moscow mule. Dear beer drinker, give their menu a chance.
I wasn't sure about this place - I usually prefer a beer or a glass of wine over a Cocktail Fancypants, but I felt the urge to broaden my horizons some. Â I think we can all agree that widening one's horizons is best done when alcohol is involved!
I was fascinated by some of the seemingly random combinations of alcohol on the menu and spent at least 10 minutes poring over it, trying to decide what to get (and googling vigourously, since I had no idea what some of the ingredients were). Â Being generally clueless about spirits, I gave up and asked the bartender for some recommendations. Â We chatted for a bit (point for friendliness and knowledge) and he made me an Aviation, a faintly blue cocktail that I really enjoyed (good taste AND nifty-sounding name! Â Clearly a good choice). Â
The space itself is interesting and fairly intimate (read: can get fairly tightly packed). Â It never got quite so loud that I had to scream to get myself heard, though, which was nice.
Worth checking out!
This is one of my favorite SA bars. The drinks are great, made with only fresh ingredients, and they don't water-down. The place is comfortable and the food trucks outside make up for the lack of a menu. The prices are just high enough to keep the bud-light-swilling proles out.
Try their Moscow Mule. They make their own ginger beer for it in-house.
I like this place. They made me a mean dark and stormy, the place itself is classy (& dark! I like that in a bar), and, even if there weren't food trucks outside, you are literally right next to a taco shop. Done.
The only thing I don't like is that there aren't a bunch of other places to drink nearby, and I tend to get restless when boozing. So, you either need to a) live downtown, b) be a normal & content stay-put drinker, or c) plan ahead on transportation. Because the drinks are delicious and strong and deserve to be drunk.
Great speak-easy looking bar. Â The former manager of Esquire owns this place. Â He has done a great job. Â Their Manhattans and Old Fashions are amazing. Â I like the look and feel of this place a lot. Â You get to dress up and drink fantastic booze. Â I will be here often. Â They usually have a delicious, hippstery food truck in front that changes based on the day. Â Food complimenting the booze just adds to the experience.
The drinks are sex, the location is cool, the decor is beautiful and I will be a regular. Â 2 times in one week and many more soon.
This is my new favorite bar.
How have I not written a review for my favorite bar on earth yet, especially considering that I got the duchess this week? Â Clearly, I'm slacking.
To be honest, calling this a bar isn't really telling the truth. Â At the very least, this is a lounge, but frankly, this is a pre-prohibition era speakeasy. Â It's fantastic. Â Jeret, Adrian, and the rest of the crew at The Brooklynite have really created something amazing. Â The focus is so much on service. Â They cap the place at 70 people, so they can focus on each guest and you're not in some sweaty college bar. Â Because of that, I do strongly recommend reservations if you're headed there on a weekend night. Â
The walls and ceiling is covered in either this pressed tin that's absolutely adorable or luxe vintage-looking wallpaper. Â Not chintzy, at all. Â There are wooden high top tables and upholstered wingback chairs and couches. Â The lounge feeling doesn't seem to be an afterthought, but rather a deliberate effort to make create a luxe, sexy environment. Â
I've also never been there where at least 1 food truck wasn't parked outside. Â Usually it's some combination of Tapa Tapa, DUK Truck, Queen of Smoke or a couple others. Â This is an absolute win for me, since I'm not-so-wonderfully known as "two drink Katy." Â I'm able to get some (delicious) food in me and not have to worry about trekking elsewhere for my post-drink snacks. Â It works out beautifully. Â
Of course, I'm not leaving out the best part, the drinks. Â I was introduced to my favorite drink, the Pimms's Cup at The Brooklynite. Â I've tried every incarnation that I can find in this town and nothing tops this one. Â It's so freaking delicious. Â So good. Â It's not at all boozy like some of the drinks, so I'm able to have more than a couple. Â The signature drink, the Brooklynite is delicious: Â a little citrusy, a little sweet, just boozy enough. Â It's on the top of the list, too. Â Honestly, there's not a single drink I've ordered there (or swiped big gulps of from other people) that I wouldn't order again because they're all just so damned delicious and well-crafted. Â Seriously, everything.
On Tuesdays, they're currently having "Tiki Tuesday" where you can get all of the awesome, guilty-pleasure tropical drinks you want, including a delicious one served inside a pineapple. Â Delicious. Â
My one issue? Â Can we please get some square footage in the photo booth? Â Sure, it makes for some interesting pictures, but I would really love to fit more than two people in there without getting up-the-nose shots of everyone!
Yes Yes YesYes Yes!
This place has, what I will go on record and say, my FAV cocktail in all of SA. Â And I've said that exact statement to several groups of friends. Â And that cocktail my friend is: The Brooklynite.
I'm don't know why I love it so much, oh wait-I do; because it is amazing! Â The way everything comes together to deliver a not as expected drink that goes above and beyond what you thought you'd ordered. Â Yes, I know I sound like a pretentious douche, but trust me, the drink is worth it.
Service is always in a league of its own. Â I wish other drinking establishments in SA could fathom even a quarter of what they offer here in terms of knowledge, friendliness, and attitude. Â This place delivers.
The decor is super-cute and not what one might expect. Â The divided seating areas are an interesting design that I dig (tho I've always found myself in the same corner w/ those tall tables pushed together to accommodate our group). Â
As a side note: they've worked out a pretty sweet deal with some local food trucks to set up shop out front and let you bring your munchies in with you. Â Double Win.
Thank You, Brooklynite, and I'll be seeing you all again really really soon.
Real Mixology at it's best, this is a great place to sip crafted drinks made with care & precision. Â I was surprised when I was greeted upon entry and asked if I had reservations.... Â Uh oh! Â This didn't prevent us from entering or cause us to wait, we were politely shown a couple of seats at the bar. Â The area is large and presumably offers couches for larger parties and high-top tables for reservations. Â If no chairs are available there is lots of standing room without worrying about bumping into people and spilling your drink.
The staff is very professional, and the Mixologist [Rob?] we talked with was passionate and knowledgeable of the drinks being prepared. Â We started with a recommendation based on things we liked and I was offered a Corpse Reviver #2, which was exceptional. Â I tried a few other drinks [some not on the menu], all of which were outstanding.
There is no parking lot, but there is ample street parking available.
If you're just looking for a cranberry with vodka or beer this probably isn't the right place. Â However, this is a fantastic place to explore and taste some unique and classic cocktails.
Cocktail lounge.
So I'm looking for something to do in San Antonio and I see this place online - and being from NYC (and being born in Brooklyn), I decide to take a look and see what the Brooklynite is all about.
From the minute you walk in, it is visually appealing. Â Nice and dark with a lot of curtains and couches - perfect setting for having some cocktails with your friends. Â The bar area is nicely done, particularly in the back bar area- these guys are not playing around with the drinks. I loved that the bartenders handcrafted each cocktail - so be prepared to wait a little for your drink while it is being tended to.
The bartenders really know the whole story about the drink, the ingredients and why this and that work better or in that cocktail. Â As a bartender myself, I appreciate that they are well versed in these things and can carry on a conversation about the cocktails. Â The sign of a well managed bar!
The area around the bar is sort of wide open- looks to me like it is sort of evolving still and there is room to grow. Â There are couches and tables scattered around as well as some funky chandeliers to light the place. Â Even the glassware is different - I really enjoyed the visual aspect of this place.
Not sure about food- I think they are adding it soon but I had eaten earlier and was not hungry so will check that on the next trip there. Â Prices were great - but since I am not from the area I cannot tell you in relation to San Antonio how the costs stack up. Â Compared to NY though, they were cheap.
Absolutely a must hit if you are into your drink - skip if you are a shot and beer person- this place would be wasted on you. Â
Parking on the street.
Top notch cocktails and fantastic food trucks out front. Nice, classy atmosphere. Good service, but be prepared to wait a bit for your drink, especially if you order something fancy. Perfecton takes time!
UPDATE: Love the Doxycycline, the Pimm's Cup and the PB&J. But then again, I love everything I've tried here.
My signature drink at the moment is the old-fashioned. I've tried my drink at just about every place in town that I thought might not screw it up too bad. There's been just a few really great ones and some pretty bad ones, but one of my favorites is the old-fashioned at the Brooklynite. The "secret" ingredient? They make their own bitters. It gives the drink a spicy, clove flavor that is so amazing.
The atmosphere is comfortable and classy. And, having food trucks parked outside doesn't hurt either.
I'm excited to call the Brooklynite my neighborhood bar!
I am so happy to see more and more bars popping up in San Antonio that are centered around quality, hand crafted drinks with incredible service. The moment you walk in to Brooklynite the "host" will greet you and personally walk you over to the bar to seat you-  completely charming. The bar tenders are so attentive and will go over, in great detail, what the drinks taste like, what they recommend to you based on your preferences, how your day was, what your favorite things in the world are, etc. etc. etc. I loved the absinthe and champagne "Death in the Afternoon" and a classic Side Car, an awesome drink when  made right (and it was). They also stock some awesome beers as well, so if you aren't exactly in the mood for cocktails they've got you covered.
Sit at the bar if you can. The bar tenders are all very interesting to chat with, plus you get a different experience interacting with them and kind of getting the history of each drink etc. If you are with a larger group, I think it would be nice to nab some of the cool couches in the lounge area so you can people watch. Brooklynite has a nice, diverse crowd. It also does not come off as pretentious or snooty, which is a difficult balance to strike sometimes for bars that are slightly pricier.
Other great things - rotating food trucks outside (AMAZINGLY convenient) and plenty of parking nearby, free parking.
I'll be back!
San Antonio drinking has been steadily improving in the last two years, thanks in great part to the efforts of Jeret Peña. The Brooklynite is a pinnacle of those efforts. The structure of the place resembles that of our favorite Violet Hour in Chicago, with a host greeting you at the vestibule, and leading you into the bar proper, and the drinking adventure to follow.
The cocktail menu is excellently brief, suggesting novel flavors and combinations  without being precious. And the bartenders are way happy to mix off-menu, riffing off the classics, tailoring to your tastes, and suggesting entertaining alternatives. Everything we've had has been spot-on, often reaching into the magnificent. Â
We haven't been when it's super-busy, so I can't speak to the atmosphere then. We have caught them at more relaxed hours, and we love the unpretentious intimacy of the room. There are a couple of classy nooks with couches and comfy chairs, and several tall tables with bar stools.
Support San Antonio culture: drink early, drink often!
How can it be that the simplest, best-explained menu makes it harder for me to decide what to order?
I love that when trying to decide at Brooklynite, the menu explains the strength of each drink. I also love that the bartenders are willing to explain the base liquors. Pisco, for example, which is so hawt right now, I am unfamiliar with. They explained in detail.
Three drinks: A pisco cocktail, the Fall-Spice Negroni, and a Pimm's Cup. All were well-executed and even as strong as the Negroni was it was completely drinkable. I can be a wiener with strong cocktails, I"m more a fan of the secretly strong stuff, but that drink might have just become my go-to.
I love the community style of the table and seating arrangements, and the fact that these guys support local food trucks by allowing you to bring in food from whatever trucks are outside that night.
All in all, another local gem that I look forward to frequenting!
I'm in love. This place is perfect in every way. After letting the new die down I finally got to enjoy the Brooklynite in all its glory. It is beautifully decorated with a wide variety of options to sit. You can find an area for the perfect date night or to accommodate large groups. Music is at a great volume. This is defiantly a place to have some great conversations at. And of course they have a photo booth! Seriously made my night! Then it gets better! They have a number of amazing food trucks stopping by to do some serious booze soaking. Still gets better! They have a Boardwalk Empire showing on Sunday's. Right now I honestly believe the Brooklynite completes me.
The hostess and waiters are amazing! First up our waiter made sure we knew what we were getting into flavor wise. He had amazing things to include on all the drinks. Seriously I can't wait to make it down the menu. The service we beyond expectations. Our waiter was always checking up on us to make sure we had a drink in hand and to refill the complementary yummy cucumber water. We ended up with a party about 8 at the end of the night and each was astounded on how much craft went into the drinks and service.
Now more on the drinks, delightful, well crafted and the quality is amazing. And yes very boozy. When is boozy ever a bad thing though? Â So while here I had the BKSA Pimms which I have to say is now number one on my Pimms list. Fresh ingredients made it so refreshing and yummy. Next I had the signature Brookynite which defiantly had a punch to it but was impressive in flavor. I also managed to steal some drinks off the husband. The PB & J will defiantly be something I get all for me the next time. It was delicious! Really nutty and not what I was expecting but in the most fabulous way.
I met a friend at The Brooklynite for a Thursday night happy hour recently. Having not heard of it (incidentally, because it had only opened up the Friday before), I was excited and not quite sure what I was getting myself into. Turns out, I was very pleased with what I got myself into.
Now, I'm a drinker and I enjoy drinking, but I'd say I'm not a well-educated drinker. I forget what liqueurs I like and get flustered when ordering a drink that's not one of my standards. That's sometimes a problem for me at fancy bars, but The Brooklynite was an exception and I ordered off their detailed and varied drink menu very easily. When the bartender noticed I was indecisive, he offered help and suggested a few items that weren't on the menu that I might enjoy... and that I did enjoy. The PB&J cocktail is delicious, and though kinda nutty, it's different and good -- and pretty boozy, as I was warned. Don't be scared, though. Their signature drink, The Brooklynite, was also a tasty one that I'd order again.
The restaurant is decorated in an open Victorian style with a modern flair, and though there are plenty of couches and chairs scattered about, we chose to sit at the bar. If given the option, I'd choose that again (of course, unless there was to be talk of espionage and whatnot) as the staff at The Brooklynite was top-notch for superior bar conversation as well as service-wise. This is a great addition to the SA cocktail scene and I'm ready to try it again!
Though I left relatively early in the night (though more than one happy HOUR, it wasn't a full happy evening), when I was leaving I saw the food trucks starting to set up outside. Next time I go, I'll definitely be taking advantage of that -- definitely a nice change from the post-drinking potato & egg taco that I'm used to!
Experiencing The Brooklynite is like taking a fanciful trip to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, where instead of an amazing array of candy inventions, you have your choice of alcoholic wonders!
If you know nothing about the local cocktail scene, you can begin by paying homage to local cocktail Godfather Jeret Peña.  He and his crew were semifinalists for a freaking James Beard Award in the category of Outstanding Bar Program in 2012. They achieved that kind of recognition after less than 1 year of operating the reinvented Esquire Tavern owned by local real estate and oil mogul Chris Hill. Â
Running with that momentum, this clever cocktail crew created a playful cocktail parlor of their own in the up and coming River North area of downtown SA. Obviously The Brooklynite is a must for cocktail connoisseurs - I recommend starting with "Any Port in the Storm," a frozen cocktail with the consistency of an Icey, yet both sweet and deep in flavor, packing a perfectly spicy ginger punch. Â The Brooklynite is destined for greatness and their team's creativity is sure to inspire only greater attention as they continue to invent themselves!
The crew at the Brooklynite make a fantastic cocktail. Â For the last couple of years, Pena and crew have been known for expertly executed classics and inventive spins on the standbys (carbonated Carpano Antica? Â Yum!). Â Having migrated from the Esquire Tavern to their own shop, Jeret, Adrian and crew now have unlimited creative control. Â The drink menu is easily navigable for both seasoned and novice drinkers, with a range of choices for all including several choices for drinkers in a hurry.
The decor is classy but unique - think Victorian-era made current, with just a dash of Lewis Carroll. Â Food from trucks Tapa Tapa, Queen of Smoke, and DUK can be had outside.
This will be my stop when in San Antonio.
