This really is as good as it gets! Â Woohoo----Mobile, AL has stepped up it's game in the food department. Â Great location. Â Great Service. Super Amazing Food! Â Try the gumbo. Try the mouth watering never to be forgotten meat-loaf! Â I hope you are there forever. Â Wishing this place great success....
Review Source:Grade A service! I don't remember my waitresses name, all I remember is she used to live in italy, but she was great! Their food was good, however the new york strip I had was fatty, but the good parts tasted good. The spiced filet looked great. Their roulade steak appetizer was really good. The menu is not excessive and had limited choice, however it makes it easier for indecisive people. Would recommend.
Review Source:Wow!! I've had great, but this was Wow.
First, the flavor of the gumbo broth could be sipped on it's own. Add andouille and chicken and you have a hearty soup. No need to go crazy on the roux or okra, the secret is in the spicy broth.
The Wow comes in at the brisket salad. It was astonishing - the flavor and tenderness of the brisket is a wow all it's own. This was the most delicious meat I've had in the South thus far. Fresh butter lettuce and goat cheese with a wonderful vinaigrette helps, but the next original culinary experience is found in the generous toppings of sweet potato "croutons". Folks, these aren't chunky croutons, they are crispy, crunchy, curled slivers of heaven.
This combo of flavors is an experience deserving of recognition.
The blue crab and corn cakes were crab-generous and perfectly cooked, but minimal with the sauce. They were fine.
My husband ordered the BBQ shrimp (sauce generous) with a honey biscuit. I scantly recall what the shrimp & BBQ tasted like because that amazing honey biscuit stole the show.
Normally plain was transformed into a flakey, perfectly baked, distinctly honey (not too sweet, just right) savory treat.
Skip the complimentary bread and just ask to pay for two honey biscuits. I promise it's worth it.
We shared a Tres Leches cake - not traditional but still amazing. It's a moist cake served with a side of Chantilly cream on the plate and  a generous side serving of liquid Mexican chocolate to pour over. Another original.
Lastly, we received gracious and friendly service from our server, April (who I recommend requesting).
We were passing through en route to New Orleans; what a stop!
I can see why The Bull has mediocre reviews. I went out to The Bull on a weeknight for a nice dinner. The food was decent and the decor was interesting. Frankly, i was expecting a little bit more from the food, although our meals were passable. On the upside, I like the decor and the server was good.
One thing I had hoped for was a few more veg options. Their one choice was OK, but I think that it would be great if they changed it up occasionally. I would go back more frequently.
This place gets major points for the space and the service.
Food-wise, I liked it but I was expecting more from how nice of a restaurant it seemed (and price). It's not quite southern, but not quite southwestern either. It's a strange fancy mix of the two. I got the scallops, my friend got the catch of the day.
Scallops were quite spicy - which I didn't realize. They were good, but the potatoes and vegetables they served it with were not very interesting. My friend liked her fish - it was mahi mahi in a mushroom sauce. We also got the chips and dip for an appetizer - it was a lot of food, so just make sure you have a big appetite or a group to share. Too much for two people.
Service: friendly, attentive and easy to have a conversation with.
Environment: what a nice place. It was a very clean look without being stuffy. Most of the tables were booths, and it had a pretty large bar.
If you're looking for a hearty meal of Southwest meets Southern cuisine in an upscale, hip atmosphere you should visit The Bull. We went on a Sunday evening and it turned out to be a nice, quiet romantic night. Because it was a Sunday, it wasn't very crowded which was perfectly fine with me. Our waiter was attentive to us from the time we stepped to the door til the time we departed. As an appetizer, we ordered the chips with guacamole and black bean dip. The guacamole needed salt but that's been my preference since having authentic guacamole in Mexico. I wasn't really crazy about the bean dip but it was good for what it was.
As my entree, I ordered the slow-roasted brisket which came with mashed sweet potatoes and greens. My boyfriend ordered the grilled snapper and roasted vegetables with a pablano pepper aoli. Â When our entrees came, I was pleasantly surprised at the melt in your mouth tenderness of the brisket. It also happened to be the largest portion of brisket I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. Â My boyfriend's snapper was tasty with a kick from the pablano aoli and the jicama was nice and crunchy.
Overall the whole meal was rather pricey, but seeing as I had a whole dinner's worth of leftovers, I guess it was worth it.

Great for a special date!!! Â
My husband and I went to The Bull for our anniversary. Â We have been eying this place for some time. Â We are happy to report that we were not disappointed. Â
I would say that the cuisine at The Bull is  southwest meets the south.  The portions were large and the price seemed fair for a high end restaurant.  We started with the flank steak roulade and house wine.  Both were good.  For the main course I had the lamb with grits and greens and he had the brisket with mashed sweet potatoes and greens.  It seemed like I wanted a little part of every dish and the chef had no objections to switching the sides for me.  All the flavors were rich and satisfying
So far this is the nicest place we have eaten in Mobile.
Was headed over to Mobile last Saturday to go to the Saenger and wanted to dine out downtown. My choices were narrowed down to Nojas or The Bull. Ive never been to either. I decided to go with The Bull and I definitely know I made the wrong decision. Â Even if Noja cant live up to the hype, it wouldve had to have been better than our dinner.
First off, the decor was really nice, clean and the service was really good. Those are the two pluses it had going for it. Â
I ordered the grill ribeye ($24) which was served atop two fried green tomatoes with some Ore Ida-looking diced potatoes (they had some ultra fancy name, but seriously..it was ore ida diced tatos), then there was some dark sauce dribbled over all of it. Ok, decent enough.. my steak was very rare as i wanted, so that was good, but there was nothing monumental about the meat and I dont see what the point of the sauce was? It really didnt have much of a flavor or add anything. The two fried green tomatoes were meh..not fried very well at all, but Im not a huge fan of things fried, so I'm probably more picky.
My husband ordered the grilled redfish ($18) which came with some more fancy named sides but were essentially diced up sweet potato. Â The fish had a bad fishy smell and obviously was obviously frozen fish, not fresh. It had zero flavor. It was also dribbled in a cream sauce that lacked any flavor or seasoning..really? Whats the point?? Hey, here's some bland rich creamy stuff to go over your bland plate of blandness. Great, thanks. I almost ordered this and after trying his, I was relieved at least one of us ordered something we could both pick at. Â
I did have soup to start off with.. I believe it was called tomato chipotle or something to that effect and it was damn good...that was about it.
I really had high expectations and was wanting to be wowed but there was nothing about our food that warranted the prices or the fanfare. That fish was just awful. Â If I go someplace like TGIF or Chilils, i expect to get frozen packaged fish served to me, but I expect more out of a fine dining restaurant.
This restaurant is located between Cafe 615 and Wentzels; and they open for dinner only (4-10 mon - thurs and 4-11 fri&sat).
I would describe the food as dignified Latin American -- subtle flavors, spicy but not too hot. They do great job with their meats and soups are to die for too. Appetizers looked very interesting too; we didn't order any because we were not that hungry but we were looking at other tables and everything looked good. They do need to work on their deserts though - I'd like to see something more interesting than a cheesecake or 3 leche cake.
If you are not interested in dinner, you can still come in and have drinks and appetizers at the bar.
Now about their waitstaff ----- I've been there only twice but my friends and I agreed that they have the most professional wait staff in the city! They are prompt, know what they are talking about, give good suggestions and the timing of everything is just right!!!
This place is great. The location, next door to Wentzels downtown on Dauphin, provides a good proximity to a number of Mobile's nightlife hot spots. The food is fabulous. The atmosphere and decor are comforting yet upscale. Employees are friendly and professional; especially the chef who's one of Mobile's own, Mike DeVaney. Be sure to check this establishment out while in town for business or simply looking for a night out on the town. Also, the late night scene for the bar which is the centerpiece of the restaurant is desirable for a good age range.
