Great burgers and an awesome music venue.  Very intimate but not too loud.

I learned about Callaghans from another Facebook page.  I've lived in Mobile most of my life and only been there once.  I went yesterday for lunch and the food was EXCELLENT.  The hamburger may be the best in Mobile, and the service was very pleasant.  I am glad I found this gem!!

Good bar food. Cold beer. Live music on the weekends. It's an honored establishment  in a cute neighborhood. I will go here often.

My absolute favorite spot in Mobile, Callaghan's is a true out-of-the-way gem that epitomizes the Oakleigh neighborhood that surrounds it. Make sure to get a burger, specifically the L.A. Burger if you're lucky enough to be there on a Wednesday or Thursday. The combination of beef and Conecuh sausage is to die for. If seafood is you're thing, you can't go wrong with the blackened shrimp poboy.

Sunday night music sessions, complete with amazing musicians, are a regular happening, and the place gets wild on St. Patrick's Day, when they close down the street for a block in every direction.

Ok, here goes.. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about, if anything im giving it two stars and im being generous . Mediocre food, the beer is always warm and im talking about the t@p beer. They have absolutely the  worst Guinness poor i've experienced in Mobile and Baldwin county. The service sucks unless they know you.  they should serve more irish beers in my opinion Murphy's , Beamish, etc. but hey thats just me. now on to the good points: Great entertainment and love the fact that you can bring your dog, sit outside and the bathrooms are pretty damn clean. I wanted to give this place 3 stars but i've been here plenty of times and probably will continue to go as it is a spot for locals to hang out but i just can't as there are to many cons to this place.

    Old school.  Neighborhood.  Awesome.

Yeah, it was Esquire's Best Bar in America a few years back, but clearly it didn't go to anyone's head.  This place is a straight up whiskey and beer bar with great chow, efficient service, and great people.  I came to Mobile with no expectations, and Callaghan's really made an impression.  If you're in town, this place is a must.

Everyone raves about the burgers at this place, so I couldn't not have one. That's basically all I get here now and a nice Sweetwater 420 to wash it down of course. When you order a burger cooked medium rare, you get a burger cooked medium rare. You don't get the ol' "We only cook it medium" routine. Whenever I hear that, I head for the door. If you're worried about poisoning someone (or getting sued), I don't want to eat at your establishment. Callaghan's isn't afraid of killing someone with a burger, and you gotta respect that! There are no fries, but I think that's a good thing. That means they don't own a fryer - a rare thing in Mobile. Fries will kill you, not a rare burger. The atmosphere is incredibly casual and the crowd eclectic - two things that make a place great. I've seen some pretty incredible bands here on the weekend, but during the week you can get some god-awful acts. Sorry, it had to be said. It's down a side street in a normal looking neighborhood, which gives it that casual feel. It's not on a busy street and somewhat hidden, adding to the allure. All-in-all one of the best places in Mobile for just hanging out on the porch and having a beer.

I found Callaghan's last year while driving cross-country, in need of somewhere near the highway to stop for dinner.  At first, we thought we were lost due to it's being situated in the middle of a neighborhood, but now I wish there were a bar like this in my neighborhood!
The staff was friendly, the beer selection was good, and the shrimp po' boy was delicious!  Stuffed with more shrimp than I could possibly eat in one sitting!  The meal was exactly the recharge we needed before getting back on the road.
Almost a year later, making the same cross-country trek, I insisted we stop at Callaghan's again.  It was just as satisfying as the first time, and I will definitely return should I find myself in Mobile again.

Worth coming to experience the fusion of New Orleans and Alabama.  I'd say go with the hamburger by default - my shrimp po-boy was way too bready - the shrimp was just ok for me - it probably would have been better breaded than blackened.

A really good Sunday brunch that could be better if you didn't have to eat on paper and eat with plastic forks.  The daily burger fair is only average and they do not have fries period.

Charming little place and the staff was attentive, but not smothering. Very casual. We had the tuna dip then split a cheese burger. Both were awesome; one of the best burgers I've ever tasted!

I'm sure most of us can relate to the term "So Idyllic". When I hear about it I think about covered bridges in Vermont, The Purple colored waters in Hawaii, a Caribbean beach and a perfect neighborhood made perfect by a restaurant / bar named Callaghan's. What an idyllic neighborhood. once you walk to Callaghans you'll understand. Rocking chairs on the porches, large pecan tree lined streets and it all comes together in this Norman Rockwell painting with Callaghan's it truly is a painting waiting to be painted.

Now that you got the idea that Callaghan's is a neighborhood bar, it is and the two are entwined together. The residents seem to love them and I'm sure Callaghan's feel as passionate about there neighbors, you feel the love. Now. I'm a stranger from Miami, more of a Yankee then Southerner, although Miami is further south. I too was made to feel special and part of the group, by the bartender and by there customers. So they get big five stars for homeyness!

As far as ambiance is concerned, you feel as if your in an old Irish bar, there are pictures from the past, it exudes diveyness! it's a great feeling.

The food that I had also was superlative. I had the Ruben Sandwich it was the best I've had in years. There was no gristly sinuous pieces of corned beef (we've all gotten those). The sandwich was masterfully made, I enjoyed it so much, I've made a point to return to Callaghan's. But, as I ate, I saw my bar neighbor eating a hamburger, that too looked excellent, he thought it was the best thing they made. I wasn't going to argue, I'm from Miami, I know what arguments lead too. And, by other Yelper's reviews, the burgers are great.

    I love this place, it's a shame I can't find a Callaghan's at all my travel locations.

For Mobile, Callaghan's is probably the best there is to offer. The food is original and delish. As a veggie lover, I always get the shrimp po-boy or the grilled shrimp salad. You'll be stuffed! As a side, you have to get the cucumber-tomato salad. Yum. The bread pudding is a MUST-TRY! Seriously, you won't regret it. There's a rum sauce, people!

So there's always a part about beer selection in my reviews and here we go again with the lacking beer in Mobile. It's not always the establishment's fault. They try here. Their mugs are never frozen. There's little on tap, but they're the ONLY ones in town with Abita Amber and that's a solid to-go beer.

As a true Irish Pub, Callaghan's has great music coming in throughout the week and on  weekends. It's never hipster or trendy. Go somewhere else for that. This is where the locals hang. Their events are always fantastic and people flood into the streets of the neighborhood that Callaghan's resides in.

You'll fit right in at Callaghan's as a friendly pub with great service and food!

My sister and I frequent this place quite a bit. They make AWESOME burgers, and the vibe in this bar is really great. They do not serve french fries but you get your choice of potato salad, chips, or coleslaw. I recommend going with whatever their special of the day is food wise, because they always cook up something really great that has a lot of Mobile flair!
They have a wrap around porch so you can sit in or outside. They are an Irish bar, so great beer and good food. They have live music on Thursday, Saturdays, and Sundays and on those days it is pretty much standing room only. One good thing about this bar is it is 100% dog friendly, so you can bring your pooch inside or out!

Callaghan's is the only true Irish pub in Mobile. Great food, great bar scene. It would be nicer if it was closer to the other bars in LODA so there could be a proper bar crawl scene in Mobile. But of course, the draw of Callaghan's is that it's a neighborhood pub. Must visit. Plus, they have awesome live music!

If you ever go to Callaghan's on a Thursday night, you are guaranteed to see a group of people in scrubs. Apparently, it is a weekly thing that I am now part of. This past Thursday was my first time going.

I have heard great things about the burgers at this place, but I was just not in the mood for a burger. I tried the chicken club, which was delicious. It was a chicken breast with lettuce, tomato, bacon, cheese, and mayo. I would not change a thing about it. I got the cucumber and tomato salad as my side, and that was great as well. It was very garlicy and I love that about it. A few people that I was with had burgers, and they looked really good. I'm sure that I will try one sometime. One of my colleagues said that he had been dreaming about a burger from Callaghan's for the past few days.

As far as the service goes, we were sitting at a table outside, and the waitress came by quite frequently. We were a fairly large group, so it may have been a bit difficult to keep up with us. Also, one of my colleagues said that it usually is not as busy as it was the night that I was there. Overall, I'd say that the service was good, facotring in all of the things that I mentioned.

I'm sure that I will return many times in the future.

    Dear Callaghan's,

I love you. You have a great atmosphere. Your hamburgers are so delicious that they just melt in my mouth, and your live bands every week or so melt my face off. The pictures on your walls entertain me as I stare off into the distance (which happens a lot), especially the ones of people I know. You are so welcoming and accommodating. Your service is a little slow, but I believe it's all for the better. You allow us to truly socialize with the people we are with and enjoy the atmosphere of camaraderie and merriment. Your location in the Oakleigh District makes your outside ambiance a very pleasant experience, and I always feel safe sitting under your flat roof. Don't you go changing. I'll see you next time I'm in Mobile.

    Love Always,
    Anna R.

I love going here! It is tucked away downtown in the oakleight historic district and definitely that place to be on St. Patty's Day or any day for that matter. They always have live bands during the week and weekends. The bartenders are the best in mobile and really love their jobs! It is a bar where if you come around often they will know your drink and even food! It has a great huge burger that is always a Mobile favorite along with staple bar grub! My boyfriend like Tuesdays $2 pint nights! Sunday Brunch is a real Mobilian favorite also. Callaghan's is very dog friendly and they have some doggy events through the year. It is now a smoke free bar. If your looking for a good place in mobile to visit Stop HERE !  You will be wanting to come back !

Really 3.5 stars. The service varies between attentive and genuinely sweet to rudeness bordering on anger. Still, it's a great live music spot away from the main LoDa drag. They maintain a good stockage of beer and also produce one of the top 5 hamburgers in the area. A must visit if you're in town and Grayson Capps is playing. Also a great spot for Joe Cain Day and Senior Bowl partying.

The burger here was AMAZING, the best burger I've ever had.  I tore into it like a starving wolf ravaging its prey, and I'm a fairly small woman who can't eat a lot at once.  I lustfully consumed every juicy, flavorful bite.

I love that the restaurant is located on the corner of a midtown neighborhood, as well.  The place itself has a lot of off-the-beaten-path charm, but they could serve me that burger on a paper plate on the ground and I still would be licking my lips as I sit here recalling it.

One drawback: no sides that I like.  They don't serve fries here.  I got some kind of potato salad and ended up not eating it.  Again, the glorious burger trumps any complaints I may have had.  IT IS WORTH IT, BRO.

This place is awesome.  Tucked away in a great neighborhood in Midtown, the atmosphere can't be beat.  Mobile has a surplus of chain restaurants and sometimes it feels like that's your only option.  This place is your antidote.  Had a great shrimp po-boy, while my friend had a Philly Cheesesteak that she loved.  Large beer selection.  Pleasant staff.

Terrible, rude service.  Ok food, ok drinks.  Great music, however.  I put money in the jukebox to play some music and the bartender shut it off to play the radio without telling me so I lost $5.  Awesome.

Mmm first off I have no idea who those women are in the photos and they are not fixed features of the pub so don't go there expecting them.

My friend is very cultural sensitive and figured that I should go to an Irish bar as that is what I am. I love this bar. I love this city.

It has a real New Orleans vibe to it set in the middle of neighbourhood houses where people walk by with their children and dogs.

Excellent beer selection. Menu is simple pub food but so good. Service was great. There was live music playing too.

How can I not love a place that has vintage green lily lights on the porch. A huge bay window that slides open so that the folks on the porch can look inside. And random old hippies dancing to the music always makes me smile.

If you are ever down this part of the world, you need to stop by here for a cool beer and good live music tunes. Very happy atmosphere.

A very unique local spot ---friendly, with great neighborhood feel,  a true Irish pub. It's a fun place to go to for a few drinks before dinner,  a few drinks and some live music after dinner; Sunday brunch is a must (especially when the weather is warm and nice and you can sit outside) - I love their Bloody Marys and eggs Benedict.

It;s mainly the atmosphere not the food that you go there for. Lunch is ok -- burgers and reubens are the best, patty melts are good, everything else could be better in my opinion.

With its open windows, and live music this place has more old world charm than anywhere else in Mobile.  Always crowded with neighborhood people, its a great place to while away any afternoon.  My favorite spot in town for a burger.

Not enough beer on tap, but a good selection of bottles. This place is just chill as hell. The music is good and not overpowering, the layout is friendly, and the people kick ass. Just a solid neighborhood pub.

I've gone here a few times and I'm not really a fan. I've only been at night and on the weekends, so I can't comment on lunch specials or what-not. I have had the french onion dip which is homemade and really good, though I wish the chips were homemade instead of ruffles! The price is a little high, IMO. I've also had the hamburger and it was good, nothing great but definitely not bad. And while I've never personally had it, I heard the fish sandwich is great. Drinks are OK, nothing special, and it takes forever when the place is busy. The bartender actually spilled ours because she was so overwhelmed!

Regardless, the place is definitely a dive and seems out of place in the middle of that neighborhood. Whenever I've been the crowd was mixed... mid-20s (mostly McGill alumni it seems) to men and women in their 50s. That was a negative to me, since I prefer places with a younger crowd.

The guys I go with seem to love it though - to drink beer and watch football! I've yet to see what is so great about it... but I guess I'm just not into dirty midtown pubs.

yeah, this is a terrific place, most definitely a Mobile institution. it's got it all: a great Sunday brunch, a prime location- right in the heart of the coolest neighborhood in the city, a full schedule of good folky/country/alt-country bands, dogs freely roaming in and out, black and white photos on the wall of badass old dudes from the 1920's drinking beer and wearing cool glasses, etc. once i saw Justin Townes Earle play here, it was during the peak of Lower Alabama summer heat and there was no AC, and everyone was shiny with sweat, and it was way over-crowded, but it was totally blissful. we were all delerious from too much beer and heatstroke and being in love with JTE. a perfect Southern/Mobile/Callaghan's experience.

Callahan's is a Mobile institution tucked into the parameter of the Oakleigh neighborhood. it just got better. Filled with locals, watching the game, catching up on local gossip, or simply meeting for a cold beer and good conversation. This establishment had faded into obscurity until a few years ago, until some ambitious locals brought it back to life. Today, the neighborhood and the bar seem to have blossomed equally into something very nice. Erin go brea! (That's the right spelling per my friend from Dublin.)

"Lunches always feature a special, a nice respite from the downtown lunch rush. When the weather permits, they keep the windows open. It has a New Orleans neighborhood feel to the place. Go there for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, watch a game, BS with the locals." - Dom Soto
