We spotted this diner on our drive down to OC and promised ourselves to stop by for a diner experience on our way back, which is exactly what we got. Chatty friendly waitress, fast service, large portions of non-fussy slightly overcooked food (fish sandwich with fries, fried chicken steak sandwich, 2 cups of soup, coffee and beer) and decent prices. There is a bar there so coulda hadda martini if it was afternoon but it wasn't. This place is a bit frayed on the edges however with a fly buzzing around, a broken lampshade overhead, fake flowers hanging and I got the feeling the carpet needed cleaning....But then again, this is a diner on Rte 50 and the food was pretty good. Lots of locals eating there, plenty of parking and wheelchair accessible (even the bathroom!).
Review Source:Whenever I come down to ocean city, I always stop here, and for good reason. If you can hit this place early in the morning, you're in for a good day. The breakfast is some of the best things I've had, and in terms of diner food it's very well met.
The portions are great and MOST of the food is worth its price.. Though there are a few problems with a couple dishes.
1. I would suggest staying away from the Chicken nuggets for your children as they are always a bit over-cooked. My brother got them when he was younger and was always disappointed.
2. The hot sauce is very vinegary and is not legitimately spicy.
Other than that, the meals are very well worth their price. The soups are delicious; especially the Split Pea if you're in the mood. Last time I got the crab cake and that rivals some of the cakes down in OC itself. No filler, just right seasoning.
Also, don't forget to mention the great breakfast. The French toast is delicious, and thick, too. The pancakes are large; they aren't the exact best, but with a bit of syrup and butter they make for a great meal.
I'd say come here if you want a great breakfast or lunch!
HUGE portions - no doubt about that. Â My toast was so saturated with butter, it was actually wet. Â Pancakes were huge but not great. Â Everything was very salty. Â If only the food was an issue, I'd give this place 3 stars.
But the service was a real issue. Â Some waiters were fine. Â We did NOT get one of them. Â Our server was morose.
While not bad, per se, the server was so unhappy with his job that he spent five minutes discussing his misery with the table next to us. Â He claimed that 'No Americans would work as hard as we do for the minimum wage' and that that's why he had been hired. Â He said he did the job of five people. Â 'What American would do that for this money?' he said, in his thick accent.
Maybe it's true. Â Maybe there isn't a SINGLE American in the world willing to wait tables, serve with a smile and clean up after guests leave. Â WAIT, no... there are MILLIONS of Americans who do that. Â And some of them probably even work at Cambridge Diner. Â Too bad we didn't have one of them as a waiter. Â
This was like a watching a bad episode of 'Undercover Boss.' Â This guy should go get a job in his own country. Â And he probably shouldn't be waiting tables. Â Service with a smile is NOT his motto.
