I had the baked scrod which was way too overcooked with some tasteless cream sauce.  The NE clam chowder was better, but not as good as Skippers.  We were with a large party and the waitress was attentive and really friendly.  Prices were on par w/other cape restaurants.  Skippers was the better choice of the two.

We recently ate at Captain Parker's after reading all the Yelp reviews.

We all had a good meal.

Here are some of the highlights and overall experiences.

The Chowder- Very rich. Almost too rich. Not heart healthy, but very good and filling.
The calamari app- Bland, chewy, and rings only.
Lobster roll- Very good and a generous portion for the price. My only comment was that the meat was warm, not chilled so it made me worry a bit in my head if it was sitting out in the kitchen.
Fish & Chips- Very good. The chips are very salty.

Service is attentive and quick, portions are decent and the food came out really fast.

    We would return.

Decent place, I was expecting more from the other reviews.

I went there twice. The first time I ordered the baked filled scrod, and my gf ordered the seafood platter. The scrod was ok (nice bell-peppery filling), while my gf was not estatic about the sauces the seafood came with. The second time we started with a clam chowder and a lobster bisque. The clam chowder was pretty good, while I was not impressed with the lobster bisque. I then ordered a lobster roll and she ordered the seafood scampi. The lobster roll was ok, although I prefer them more meaty, while this one has very small pieces with lots of mayo. For the price I was expecting bigger lobster pieces. It came with fries, and those were very good. The seafood scampi was a nice, big plate of seafood, but it was completely unsalted, and we had to add quite a lot of salt to make it palatable. The linguine in the plate were mushy and overcooked. We finished with a key lime pie, which was nothing special. Overall, I would recommend a visit if you are in the area for many days, but I would set my expectation straight, this is not a 4-star place.

Lobster was expectional, chowder lived up to expectations. Service was pretty good.

Great food! The clam chowder was amazing!! My wife got the clam strips which were cooked perfectly and not overcooked like many other places. I had the cod Ruben from the specials menu which needs to make its way to the main menu! No complaints at all !

Have gone to this place for 28 years.  Great seafood.  A Must-go-to icon of Yarmouth.  Very consistent in delivering quality with only a few disappointments.  The early-bird specials give you real reduced portions so the value is questionable.  Get the real-meal and be appropriately filled.

And about the chowder - without a shadow of a doubt the best you will ever have, anywhere any time.  A must-have.

On the way to Provincetown, my boyfriend and I had skipped lunch and so hungrily arrived here at 3 pm on a Thursday. Needless to say, every table was empty and every barstool was occupied. We were seated and ordered two clam chowders and 20 oz beers with an oyster platter to start. The oysters were a little small but flavorful. The plate was priced well at $14 for six oysters and ten shrimp with all the fixings. The clam chowder was delicious and full of seafood. I think I could eaten another bowl if the beer hadn't filled me up. Service was decent and not over the top. Overall, a really nice rest stop on our road trip.

Scallops wrapped in bacon - an appetizer was excellent or better.  Enough for a meal.  The seafood scampi was excellent.  Good service.  Fairly priced.

Always my last stop on the Cape and for good reason- the best clam chowder I've ever had.

I don't throw around the word "best much" nor do I give out 5 stars that often. However Capt Parkers earns it strictly based on clam chowder.

    Crazy I know.

But honestly the best chowder you'll ever order, and this is coming from a guy who typically prefers is chowder to come from the Manhattan variety.

My first time in Capt Parkers I ordered an appetizer (Quahog perhaps?)  That was too much, the chowder is good enough and rich enough to be a full meal.

Last time I ordered two pints to go and brought them home to PA- I think I ate them in 4 days.

    Highly recommended!

The food is meh and overpriced except for the chowder which is excellent. If you go, get a burger, chowder and a drink and you shouldn't be too disappointed.

Honestly, the only good food we had at Captain Parker's was the chowder, which was wonderful.  Everything else was sub par. We won't go back now that we know the chowder can be purchased in local grocery stores.

After reading several reviews my boyfriend and I thought we would give this place a try. We ordered the Parker's sampler, clam chowder, and lobster and seafood fettuccine.

The Parker's sampler had several different seafood, including mussels, clams, stuffed mushroom, and oysters. Which was great because it allowed us to try them all. My biggest issue with this dish was it was too salty and the seafood were beyond sandy and way too cheesy.

The clam chowder, we ordered because we've read many great reviews about it. It was a little more edible but I must say still a bit too salty. Flavoring was good but I wouldn't say the best I've had.

The lobster and seafood fettuccine had a decent amount of seafood, more than we expected. But again the mussels had so much sand in it. The only pro about this dish was it wasnt salty butttt the food was way toooo creamy. After two bites I felt sick of eating it. I was just thankful that the waitress was quick with refilling the water because with the saltiness of the food we had to drain ourselves with water. These food are great for raising your HBP with the salt intake.
My suggestion to them is lower the salt when cooking... There are salt on the table for a reason. If the customers prefer a little more saltiness, they can add the salt themselves.
I would not go back and I absolutely do not recomment eating here

I arrived at Captain Parker's for lunch it was not full and I was the only one in the dining room. (the bar was happening though).

I figured since the clam chowder said "world famous" I might as well give that a try, being that it was my first cup of chowder I've gotten the change to order on the cape... boy was I surprised when it arrived not less then 60 seconds later! spoon and crackers on the side, I thanked the waiter and ordered their Parker burger.

The first thing I noticed when I went to dig into the Chowder was that it had a skin on it... like.... The kind of skin that develops on soup after it sits there for a long time.. my assumption was that they have cups of this stuff sitting there pre-portioned and when someone orders it, well.. there you go... kind of presumptuous if you ask me that they think that since their chowder is so good that it can sit out for awhile and still be good.. this however was terrible and had no flavor and I couldn't find more then two or three pieces of Clam...

Luckily the Burger took longer to come out and it was by far fantastic, and the reason that this place got three stars... I may return in the future and revise this as I see fit.. right now I'm on the fence about it and that's why it's getting the rating it got...

I get to the Cape a few times a year and always try to find a new place to eat my favorite food: fried clams.  Now there's no secret recipe for making these and it all comes down to how many you get for the price (always spend wherever one goes) and how un-greasy they are.  Captain's did a nice job with both.  Given it's location on Rte 28 I can only imagine the hoards that come here in-season.  If you don't have to wait I say stop in and give it a try.

Great food, great service and a great setting. Every time we visit our place on the Cape we make it a point to stop in for dinner at least one night. Even during the off season this place gets packed! And that says a lot.

Difficult to say which item on the menu is my favorite as there are soo many good selections!

Highly recommend to anyone in the area.

People are on raging crack if they love this place.  Went here two days ago with the boy with high expectations......FAILED EPICALLY!!!

The waitstaff was ok....nuff said about that.

The food was fucking terrible.  I don't care that I ordered salmon on a Greek salad and you're "not supposed to get salmon on the cape" BULL FUCKING SHIT!  The salmon...picture this....literally get the image of a ruler in your mind...and then look where the 3 inch mark is....and I mean literally the width of a ruler, and 3 inches long.....NO LIE!!! The smallest fish portion I have ever gotten at a restaurant, unless of course it were a part of a gourmet "prix fixe/chefs tasting menu" if you will, at a high end establishment.  And it wasn't even cooked well...it was soooo ragingly overcooked...GROSS.  Granted people, I got the meal because it was one of the LEAST expensive options, I feel weird ordering food items I feel might be too expensive....esp. after you start dating someone new....this is a new concept to me and I am trying to adjust, but it does emphatically NOT change the food quality.

The boy got a stuffed quahog to start, he had been here in previous years, and noted that they changed the recipe (in a positive manner), and presumed they may have even added a little linquica and bacon.  I tried a bite....Hmmmmm where's the fucking crab? IDK.  LACKING!  Ummmmm yeah....it left much to be desired, although the flavor was decent, with a subtle "bite."

He got the fried clam plate with fries...honestly it looked pretty legit, and he was happy with it, I didn't partake, but I bet it was pretty yummy.  But still, my meal was soooo horrendous, I will never recommend, nor will I return...Please and Thank you kindly :)

The service is great and the drinks were good.

We had a couple lunches there and both times they were great.

As a weirdo Rhode Islander, I prefer my chowdah tomato based, but as soon as I took 1 taste of Capt Parkers creamy white chowder, I was hooked. Without question, this is the best chowder I have ever had in...my...life.

We've been coming here every year for many years, and the food quality hasn't changed. Everything we've eaten from this establishment has been incredibly delicious.

There's a reason there's at least an hour wait on busy nights.

    Good service, great food!

Came here for dinner, about an hour wait spent at the (very decorated) bar. Ordered the broiled scallops with mashed potatoes. The scallops were cooked perfectly, the seasoning was great, not bland, not over powering. The mashed potatoes melted in my mouth. Others ordered the smoked Gouda fettuccine Alfredo and I tried some - wow, just wow. You could definitely taste the Gouda - it was SO good! I think I would order that next time... or just a giant bowl of the Gouda sauce.

Definitely a lot of options on the menu - something for everyone. Prices were about normal for seafood, and the quantity of food was good for the price paid. Prices on the soups and chowder were SUPER high. Although, I did not try them, I have to assume there are better deals elsewhere...

Parkers has great chowder but the menu is way to overloaded and today I got a bad selection.

I'm a washashore but I think most local/natives stick to the bar and the chowder.  Today, we made it for lunch.  I started with chowder paired with a Cape Cod Blonde.  I've had their chowder before and it is as good as the others on this site say.  Creamy, nice chunks of clam and potatoes.  Now visitors, I'm going to fill you in on the dirty secret of Cape restaurant clam chowder.  EVERYONE HAS AWARD WINNING CHOWDER - DUH!  They hold a chowder fest in the parking lot of every super market on the Cape.  The difference with Parkers is Mr. Manning has actually won in competitions that matter.  If I stopped at the beer and chowder, it would have been a four star.  You also gotta realize, Parkers is a bit pricey due to the demand.

My mistake was to order the salmon burger.  I would have needed a gallon of the dill dijonaise on top to offset this arid piece of pressed fish.  The grill cook took this thing out of the low boy, tossed it on the grill for 60 seconds a side and threw it between a unimpressive sliced roll.  Served with lettuce, red onion and a tomato slice that was the size of my spare tire and same thickness.  BLEH. Fries kind of a cute take on wedges and nice and crispy.  I do believe they could do better with hand cut but that's just me.

Watching the abundance of tourists (both number and girth) chow down on mounds of fried seafood was slightly amusing.  I don't eat the stuff but if that's your thing, you can get it cheaper at a place over the river at the corner of 134 and 28.  They should seriously serve the stuff with a side of coronary stent and a statin chaser.

Would love to see the menu smaller and an addition of pan seared sea scallops with fresh sauteed vegetables.

Solid good seafood in a very charming setting with good service.  No complaints.

I had the broiled lobster (one a half pounds) and the lobster meat was really fresh and yummy.  My boyfriend had the mixed seafood platter and let me eat from his plate - also really good.  I don't recall what my other friend had but she seemed to enjoy it as well.  Finally, we all had a cup of Clam Chow'da and, while I wouldn't say it was the best I ever had, I managed to finish every last spoonful.

I would definitely give this place two thumbs up!

I've now been here twice, the most recently on 6/20/12.  The food was mediocre at best, the waitress was so phony-nice it was insulting, and the host acted like it was almost a hassle to seat us.  Oh, and btw, all of this came at a pretty lofty price... nearly 50 bucks for two.

I got the lobster roll, which looked like it came from a supermarket and had a stale bun, with fries which were so old that they were inedible (basically precooked a long time ago and then reheated), and cole slaw which tasted sour, like it had been sitting out a while.  Even the Sprite which I ordered was more or less tonic water with a slight tinge of flavor.

My wife got fried shrimp, which were soggily-breaded, with the same inedible fries and cole slaw alongside.

Bottom line: no way am I going back here ever again, and I'm telling my friends the same.

I came here with my in-laws and my husband after a long day of beach-lounging and relaxing. We were in full tourist mode with our Cape Cod sweatshirts and sunburns.

Appetizer: Shrimp Cocktail served in a martini glass. Shrimp was excellent, very fresh, and the sauce was perfect. Presentation was nice. The waiter was a little to "jokey" for my taste, but was friendly and quick.

My Dinner: Lobster Salad Plate (one of the specials). I LOVED it. However, it's important to specify that it was lobster salad, heavily mixed with mayonnaise, garlic, and some other spices.

The lobster salad roll was the same (my husband got that). If you're looking for a pure, unadulterated lobster roll, this was something quite different. Delicious, but different.

We went early in the season, June 1st, so on a Friday night at 7pm we were seated right away, no wait at all. I would imagine in peak season that's a different story.

I will absolutely go back here again, but from the sound of it I'd time it for off peak hours. Probably worth a wait, but I prefer to get in and out.

My family and I went down to Cape Cod on our recent trip to Boston and, of course, being in New England, we went on the hunt for the Best Clam Chowder in the area.  We were a little worried about being out and about on Mother's Day, but thankfully, arriving around 2 pm, there was no wait at Captain Parker's. There were actually an abundance of tables.

Everything on the menu looked AMAZING. However, we settled on the Clam Chowder, Baked Stuffed Shrimp, Newburg Special (I think it was called), and the Lobster Salad Roll.  Let's just say, everything was so good that there was not a drop left on our plates.  This was the first time I had tried a Lobster Roll - wow, I've been missing out!  I was craving another one the very next day and wished I could go back to Captain Parker's right then to get another one.  And the clam chowder? Perfectly creamy and thick with lots of clams. Thinking about it is just making me drool.  Of the four things we got, the Baked Stuffed Shrimp would probably be my least favorite, but it was still very tasty.  Finally, the fish in the Newburg Special was so tender. Remember, though, that because everything is very creamy and rich, you do get very full at the end of it all.

The people working there were all very friendly and I do hope I get a chance to go back to Cape Cod so I can go again!  Also, everything is pretty decently priced for what you get!

Went in Saturday in February and had to wait twenty minutes. I ordered the chowder which was good. I don't think it is the best on the Cape but who am I. I loved the menu and really could not decide what to get. I decided on th efisherman's paltter which was loaded with scallops, shrimp, fish, clams. I am a bigger guy that is taking a break from being on the diet and I sent a lot of seafood back. I like it when at a restaurant you get some value for you money. That happens at Capt. Parkers. The dessert selection was good and we got the apple dumpling sundae. Very good.
The server was nice, but a little busy and that is the only reason this is not a 5 star review. I will be back soon. Trying to convince myself it is a shor rider from Boston.

The five stars are definitely given for the clam chowder!  Did I say clam chowder, yes, I just said clam chowder.  This is the clam chowder I judge all other chowders against.  All others meaning: every where on and near The Cape.  I just love classic New England clam chowder and this is by far the best I have ever had.  So thick and creamy the oyster crackers can stand on its side in it; so tasty I just want a bucket of it.  I was on the Cape for a week and made a point of ordering chowder at every restaurant I went to.  And the result?  I came back to Captain Parker's at least 3 times in that week.  Does the restaurant offer other things?  Maybe, I don't know...all I had and all I wanted was more of their chowder.  Oh, I think the clams casino was also good.

Captain Parker's, you have ruined me, I can't really eat other chowders and be happy anymore!

So I was told this place has the best Clam Chowder around.  When I arrived, the sign on the road as well as inside the place also confirmed this.

I knew with all the hooplah, chances were good that I was in for a let-down.

Well, I would not go so far as to say it was a let down, the food was okay and the service was friendly.

I had the chowder and fried shrimp.  My friend had a fried cod.  Well, as you know, it's generally a given that if something is fried it's going to be at least good (if your American that is).

The food was cooked correctly, right temp & served promptly.  Mine certainly could have used a little more seasoning for my taste but again, nothing wrong with it.

Do I recommend this place; sure.  If you're hungry and want to know you're going to get decent service and decent food and you're in the area, it may be a safer bet than others if no info is available on them.  That said, after having been to numerous local joints in New England with similar; non-directed menus_ I're sure any of the 5-10 joints within 2 blocks are equally as safe to try.

If you want to make a special trip for something; I would recommend Wimpy's in Osterville (about 10 miles away) and go for the Seafood Diavolio; it is amazing.  So good I had it twice in 3 days.

I had heard such great things about this establishment and I really tried to like it.

My family knows I love my Chowder, and being in the Cape I had to have the "Award Winning Chowder" from Captain Parker's.

Walking into the bar area reminds me of some of my old haunts in upstate NY.  Exposed wood, low ceilings, a golf ball ceiling section, patches from police departments, fire departments, military branches and units adorn almost every square inch of the rest of the ceiling.
However, one thing that should've tipped me off to the cuisine is that no one in the place was under 60 - aside from us.

My chowder came out and was bland.  Bland beyond belief.  If I wanted stock, cream, clams and potatoes I could've gone home and done that myself.  There appeared to be no spices in the soup and I couldn't add enough pepper.  One thing about the restaurants I visit, is I want the food to be seasoned to an acceptable level, and then allow me to make up the rest from there.  This however, needed onions, garlic and a lot of pepper to make it acceptable.  The bread "boule" as they called it was doughy and the crust was flaky and a bit salty.

I then went with the fried fish sandwich.  It too was bland.  I emptied the tartar sauce side on the fish, threw on some malt vinegar and two  lemon wedges to coax any amount of flavor from the flaky white fish.  The breading was flavorless.

I totally understand the need to cater to your clients, and seeing who the clientele was, was an indicator that they cater to the low -sodium set.  They have to keep their blood pressure low.

All said, I'll bypass this chowder next time.  I was glad to have experienced better during my trip.

I don't want to spoil party, but I truly regret I visited this place without reading reviews thoroughly. I mean, I did read reviews, but was overexcited by rating of this over-hyped place.
As others mentioned, 1.5 hours waiting time is not worth it.
Clam chowder so many people get excited about is high-carb potato filled powder and definitely not the best out there (even Brazilian grill's one was much better!) Steak was OK, though, thus I am giving 2 stars instead of 1.
This place really not worth visiting. The one we visited right after that crossing the street (lobster boat) despite bad rating (and I agree with many reviewers out there!) had much better choice, atmosphere and price at 9:30PM.
Captain Parker's pub is a hype and tourist's trap as others mentioned before. Will never go there again.

Ummm, unless your taste buds are dead, you love eating salt by the shovel, or you're so used to eating garbage that you can't differentiate whats good and whats not, AVOID Captain Parker's.
I lived in Massachusetts pretty much my whole life, lived on the Cape for 8 years, and can guarantee you this is NOT the best clam chowder as Captain Parker's claims. Clam chowder is supposed to be thick, but not so thick that your spoon stands straight up when put it in the bowl.
Captain Parker's is most definitely a tourist trap, a horrible, horrible tourist trap. Save yourself the time, money, and pain!

Chowder was great, bartenders were super-friendly and the beer was cold.

I can say it was the best chowder I've had because the only other stuff is out of a can.  I will admit we stopped in to Molly's first because of a recommendation, but the kitchen was closed.

After that I bet it gets wicked busy (local speak) in the summer time.

Can an award winning chowder recipe carry an entire restaurant? Apparently the answer is yes. Thought we'd try this place since it has overwhelmingly positive reviews. Here's our take.

The clam chowder they are known for is pretty stinking good, although a bit heavy on the thyme for my taste. My wife got the salmon and she said it was ok, not great. I got the broiled seafood dinner and while it was a decent amount of food, the overall taste left much to be desired. In all seriousness, I've had better tasting seafood combination platters at diners and we both agreed that we've had much better food on the Cape and at places more casual than this place.

The interior of the restaurant is nice/casual and the bar area in particular is decorated with various sundries. Our server was pleasant enough but not incredibly attentive (no drink refills until check time).

I may not be from NE but I know good food and this isn't it. If you're looking for great chowder and you're not at all picky about the quality of the rest of your food (quantity over quality), then this is the place for you. From our experience you can easily get much tastier food elsewhere on the Cape though so I'm not sure why you would bother.

I'm not sure if you know this, but Captain Parker's serves clam chowder.

Captain Parker's is Cape staple in West Yarmouth. Interestingly enough, Captain Parker's is situated on the Parker River. Ok, fine, I'll get to the chowder.

Captain P.'s has what is allegedly the world's best clam chowder. It has won the triple crown of Chowder Fests (Boston, Newport, and Cape Cod) and was even retired into the Hall of Fame at the Cape Cod Chowder Fest. Now, this isn't some honorable line of predecessors. The reason they did this is because it wasn't fair that Captain Parker's was kicking everyone's butt year after year. It's like Barry Bonds playing on your company softball team.

Beyond the thick, creamy, rich, deliciousness that is the clam chowder, Captain P.'s has your usual seafood fare. The seafood has always been fresh when I've been there, but nothing that makes me want to yelp home immediately. The ambiance is ok, the best spot is at the bar which is lined with an equal amount of Cape locals and patches from various police departments.

Come for the chowder, stay for the chowder.

In October of 2002 I was coming up to the Cape every weekend to help my parents with their vacation house.  I was back in Jersey waiting for Bar results from California.  I was living a three state existence and hating it.  We would drive up on the weekends and stay in their empty home.  Empty as in no furniture, no beds, no plates, no utensils, no television, no nuthin'!  I slept on an aero bed with my dog listening to football games and the World Series on a portable radio.  I also got high nightly on the fumes from the cleaning products we were using to lift the collected filth and stink from the previous renters.  It was a wonderful existence.  Gitmo is a pleasure palace compared to what we were doing.

One of the few respites from this sub-Spartan existence was going out to dinner.  It was then that I first went to Captain Parker's Pub.  I sucked back Sam Adams and slurped up copious chowder.  I logged Captain Parker's into my data bank when this horrible month and half project finished.

Fast forward to this summer.  I had not been back to the Cape in 6 years.  Living in California for the past 6 years denied me the pleasure of watching the Sox on NESN, eating fried seafood, and bowls of Captain Parker's chowder.  San Francisco may be a culinary captial, but the chowder here tastes like goose poop.  So, when my girlfriend and I came to the Cape, all I wanted to do was go to Captain Parker's Pub.

I know that the pub hypes itself as having the best chowder on the Cape, but it's justified.  Very justified.  The place rocks.  It is the Cape at its best.  The Sam Adams still flows freely, the smell of fried food saturates your clothes, and the chowder is worth a 3,000 mile trip.  We both had a huge steaming bowl before our dinner.  I then went through a Fried Fisherman's Platter.  The scallops were fried to perfection as were the shrimp, and clams.  The scrod was a little weak, but at the point I was so stuffed from everything else that it did not matter.

Be warned, no reservations!  Otherwise go to Captain Parker's and indulge.  You're on vacation and you deserve it.
