The menu is large and varies from authentic to a little more Americanize choices. Â Better then olive garden but still shy of truly authentic .My favorite thing on the menu is the Lori Chicken Salad. I Usually do not order Salad at a restaurant but this thing is the best! The bread sticks are also great. Â
The service is hit or miss. But usually not to bad.
Decided to try this out while shopping in Angola. The food was ok nothing to write home about but not bad. The veal was not too bad, the pasta was ok, and the sauce on the Alfredo was good but a note had wine in it I'm fairly sure. Oh and the bread sticks, they were pre made and put on a plate with garlicky butter or margarine, not very good. Lastly the atmosphere, I couldn't place it but was strange maybe if I grew up on the place it would have been ok but it was odd and old. Overall it was an odd meal that I could have done without.
Review Source:Went here with a group of friends on a Tuesday night and had a great time. Â The food was hearty and it had a very homey atmosphere. Â This place is perfect for large groups (specifically families) and we were served quickly. Â They also had a gluten free menu from where you can choose a good selection. Â For a weekday crowd, I would say that they are a success.
Review Source:Stopped here for dinner, as it was recommended by friends who had recently tried it and raved about it. I had the pasta alfredo, which was okay, but I did have to add pepper to it to give it flavor. The breadsticks were tasty, but for the heart healthy folk, Â be forewarned that they are served in a puddle of butter. My favorite part of the meal ended up being the coconut pie for dessert. It was yummy and I would go back for more.
Why the two star review? The service was horrible. I wasn't impressed when we were seated and it only got worse when our waitress arrived. While ordering she literally told us to make it quick because she had to get back to the kitchen. At the end of our meal, she snatched up someone's plate before he was finished. She never asked if he was done, nor offered to wrap it up.
Overall, I was not impressed. I will probably give the food a second chance and try Caruso's again, however next time, I'll order take out. That way we can finish our meals and won't burden the waitress who is needed in the kitchen.
I've been eating at Caruso's since 1976. It has develop from a small town pizzeria to a queant Italiano eatery. Service depending on the time of year, is hit or miss. The consistency of food is always fresh and well prepared.
If you are traveling through the lovely town of Angola, IN. I highly recommend stopping for lunch or dinner. You will not be dissapointed.
Caruso's is an Angola institution. The restaurant is clean and has updated decor. I usually order a sausage roll or a "torpedough." Both are somewhat similar to a calzone. The crust is fairly standard white flour pizza-style, but very fresh and has a good flavor. The kitchen is good about cooking the crust to a nice golden, barely crunchy consistency. The fillings on the "Joe's Special" sausage roll include "hot peppers" which are really pepperoncini and not very hot at all. The sausage is the only slight disappointment here. Instead of a spicy, chunky sausage, it is more the type put on Pizza King pizza. It is finely ground and too mildly spiced. I would love to see some home-style spicy Italian sausage in the roll!
The service is good in this small town venue. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant, if not foodie-worthy, satisfying meal.
