We were greeted promptly by a waitress, and told we could sit anywhere, followed by a warm and friendly Happy Fathers Day greeting. Â We chose the corner table, unaware of its "troubled past". Â
The new owners also own a bar on White Spar road, and have slightly cleaned up the place; it looked inviting for a building with a rich past.  All the staff was friendly.  They offer several  specials, day-of-the-week offerings and a white board for special-specials.
Our waitress was Patty, who was prompt in greeting us, taking drink orders, and assisting us with our orders.  My party had the Prime Rib, Baby Back ribs with crab legs, and grilled chicken sandwich.  The salad was a generous portion  with iceberg, romaine and greens, red onions, croutons, radishes, and cherry tomatoes.  The blue cheese dressing was very tasty and had large chunks of cheese in it.
The Prime Rib was about an inch thick, nicely colored and had a flavorful bark (crust), and was worth having again. The Au Jus was good, the horseradish had a typical flavor. Â The chicken sandwich was breast meat which had a slightly charred flavor and was just ok. Â The sweet potato criss-cut fries were really good. Â The baked potatoes were cooked just right, and tasted good. Â The Baby Back ribs did fall off the bone, with the meat texture a balance of thick and chewy. Â The crab legs shell was soft enough to break with fingers, the provided cracker was not needed. Â The crab meat was typical.
Overall the service and food were good and we had a positive experience. Despite being at the "troubled table" our dining experience was not troubled. Â The curse has been broken. Â We will go back again.
THE CATTLEMAN'S BAR AND GRILL IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS!!!!! They have been re-opened for several months now. PLEASE IGNORE the reviews that state that they are "PERMANENTLY CLOSED" - that's not true!
I entered the restaurant, and I was told to "sit anywhere you want" by one of the staff members as she made her way across the dining room. I felt a little lost. I think they could benefit from a hostess to seat people. I waited a little longer than I would have liked to before my server approached my table with a menu. However, she apologized and took my drink order. She returned with my iced tea quickly. I ordered the half rack of baby back ribs, with sweet potato fries and a garden salad. The salad arrived shortly, and it was impressive - fresh, crisp mixed greens, red onions, grape tomatoes, and crisp croutons. The bleu cheese dressing was rich and chunky, just the way I like it. I took a moment between the salad and the entrée to check out the restroom. It was clean and fresh - from my past experience, this is indicitive of a sure sign of the overall cleanliness of the kitchen and the restaurant..
My ribs were a bit on the dry side. I wished they had tasted as good as they looked. I asked for a side of BBQ sauce and that helped, but it was definitely an afterthought. The flavor was spot on - by no means were they burned or overdone, but they tasted like they'd been rushed a bit. Ribs need to be cooked low and slow, with lots of moist heat The sauce was excellent - the perfect combination of spicy and sweet. The sweet potato fries were waffle style, and they were crispy and flavorful. Best I've had anywhere!
The wait staff was engaging, friendly, warm, and seemed genuinely happy to be there and to serve. My server was no exception - a very attentive and warm gal.
I think review-wise on this site, this restaurant is paying for the sins of its past. I didn't have the opportunity to critique the place under the old owners, so I can't comment on the past negative reviews. But it's obvious the new owners/management team are very motivated and committed to preparing and delivering great, rustic, down-home, quality food at a reasonable price. I would definitely suggest that you give them a try. Next time I will try one of the several steaks they offer, which have been favorably reviewed by others. I'm looking forward to dining with them again.
This food is Awesome, but the best feature is the employees Kimie and Mike!!!! Â Awesome service and such Great People! Â They work Monday - Saturday until 4, so if in Prescott AZ go get some lunch! Â Fantastic Steaks and the ribs and Brisket are to die for!!!! The Lemon Meringue pie if available is wonderful too!!!
Review Source:The food was great, the service was friendly, but the atmosphere was a little worn and dirty. Prices were reasonable and the restaurant wasn't busy when we went in but I have heard that it gets really busy on the weekends. Cattleman's is famous for its steaks and burgers and we could see why. Dad ordered a cheeseburger and was impressed with how juicy and flavorful it was. Sweet potato fries were served as an optional side dish and were delicious.
I ordered a club sandwich. It wasn't dry and it was quite tasty, but as an individual who can't eat beef, it was expected that I would have difficulty finding a number of things I could eat. I did order spicy buffalo wings that drew attention on their way to our table. The waitress carried the plate of spicy wings through the bar and everyone turned their head. One individual even said that those were the best looking wings he had ever seen and another lady couldn't resist ordering her own platter. They were indeed delicious!
The restaurant smelled like cigarette smoke even though indoor smoking has been prohibited for a couple years now. The ceiling was splattered in what looked like years of grime. The window sills were dusty and the carpet looked like it hadn't been washed in a long time. The food was great and the kitchen looked clean from where I was sitting. I think if I were to eat here I again, I would order to go.
I went with five coworkers for dinner. Two didn't even want to go in, and I wish the rest of us would've listened. Absolutely the worst dining experience I've had in years. Quite possibly the worst ever.
Several of us ordered brisket. If you could find a piece that wasn't 90% fat you were unlucky enough to get the flavor of the meat...slightly rancid and what I can only call gamey. The beans were straight from a can. I literally could not bite through the corn muffin and had to use a steak knife to saw through it.
The decor was horrid, dirty, dark and decidedly strange. I challenge you to find a picture of a female in the restaurant. I mean, I don't mind a dive, but dust bunnies and Christmas lights don't make it a dive. All of this dining pleasure for a mere 21.00 dollars. What a rip off. If I could rate it zero stars I would. Do not go here.
When you are having one of those days where you are in the mood to be casual and natural and have a craving for a good piece of meat then mosey on over to the Cattleman. Â
A little divey, unpretentious place serving up delicious porter house steaks at reasonable prices. Â
Every time my 16oz porter house steak is served to me I always think, "man, this is one huge steak, I can't eat it all" and guess what? Â The waiter always comes back to pick up an empty plate. Â Yup, finger licking delish!
Don't get upset if the service isn't quick, order a drink, relax and kind of soak up the laid back atmosphere.
When your food comes, it's worth every minute of the wait!
If there was an option to give zero stars, that is what I would choose for this mess of a restaurant.
We went in today with a big party for a Mother's Day brunch. It took forever for us to get our food, and then my steak sandwich came medium instead of medium rare, the way I ordered it. It was tasteless and lukewarm. I asked the waiter for horseradish, and he took 15 minutes to bring me the wrong thing. It wasn't until I already spread my whole sandwich with the tartar sauce he gave me in error that I realized it wasn't horseradish sauce.
They lost my boyfriend's credit card between swiping it and bringing it back to the table. So we waited while the wait staff frantically searched for the credit card for about an hour. Horrible experience.
Deeelish BBQ. Friendly folks and a great atmosphere! Had delicious brisket sandwich with housemade bbq sauce. Side dish was potato salad which is also made right on site...and it's quite yummy too! Hubby's favorite food is BBQ so he was very happy with the results too.
Keep your eyes peeled for this place cuz it's a stand alone hole in the wall and you might drive right by it. Â It's definitely worth the hunt!
Looking forward to going back and trying their burgers and steak. Apparently they are award winning! Can't wait to go back!
A steak-house for the townies. The inside is a little run-down and definitely has some interesting smells (this was a smoking establishment for a LONG time).
The steaks are awesome, and the wait-staff is always friendly. My steaks have always been cooked correctly, and there is always enough food. Prices are good for the amount of food you get.
If you are looking for a good steak place in town go here or Dry Gulch.
Literally a shack on the side of the road, inside its dark, divey, and I think it smells a little funny too.
Bottom line? Man do they have good steak. I've been here twice, and I've decided Cattleman's is the place to go for a tasty, reasonable priced steak, minus the ritz that comes along with some of the places downtown (for  a considerable price).
Great place to show up to in your tatty old jeans, ripped up tank top and flip flops, to have a cold beer and some good meat. The 24oz porterhouse is might good eatin, and you almost WANT to order Coors Light to go with the decor (I'd opt for a good ale or some iced tea to beat the heat).
