Went here after work with a group of people. Â Me and a friend placed our food order with the bartender and she totally didn't put the order in. Â It was late and wanted to leave so we asked another bartender if he knew when the food was going to be ready. Â He asked the girl and she whispered that she forgot to put it in. Â At that point we just wanted to go home so I told the guy that if it was never put in, just forget it. Â Of course he wouldn't admit it was a mistake and had the cook quickly make the food but I really would have rathered to leave. Â Especially when they finally serverd us their poor excuse for sliders.
Review Source:For this past Valentine's Day, I was on the search for a hip, sexy, trendy spot, with good food, not too expensive, with GREAT cocktails, to suit a group of 8 - and Chalet fit the bill.
It's a historical landmark building, circa 1832, and at one time was either a stable or part of a larger Gold Coast estate. Protected by NY State, the foundation can not be changed or altered in any way.. so the exterior of this building has a sturdy, old-fashioned charm, with dark solid wood and a cobble stone walkway/parking lot.
The restaurant has three floors: The first being a bar/tap room, the second being a lounge, and the third is reserved for private parties and also has access to an outdoor patio area available in season ONLY. The ambiance on each floor is completely different. The first floor is a little more rugged, dark with bar stools, and wood in every which direction you look. The lounge has a full bar, fine hardwood floors, a white interior, glass tables to dine from, long leather couches and low stools/chairs for seating, has accents of red, large format vintage paintings on the wall, and a nice little fireplace. The third floor is similar to the second, but much smaller and with more of a "private harem" vibe. The bathrooms for the second and third are also up here.
The cuisine is classified as "American/Electic", so the range of appetizers goes from like guac. and chips, to cheese quesadillas, calamari, burger sliders, wings, and crab cakes; there are also various soups and salads (Greek, Caesar, and French Onion, for example); entrees range from pastas, salmon, ribeye, and lamp chops; and desserts feature an impressive chocolate fondue, strawberry/banana/nutella crepes, and chocolate lava cake amongst others. MAJOR YUM on the chocolate fondue!
As far as food goes, everything about it from A-Z was absolutely great. Well-prepared, wonderful presentation, brought out in a timely manner, served with a smile, and was just damn delicious. Cocktails?? Fantastic. They've got a great selection of martinis (love martinis...) and can prepare you pretty much any drink to your liking.
I heard from the bartender, Theresa, that Thurs thru Sun it's POPPIN'!! And it can get a little loud and rowdy with bumpin music and a DJ, really packed too!
This being my first visit, I was impressed that my party and I were personally greeted and seated by the owner - Kevin - who took a moment at various intervals during our meal to check in and make sure everything was going o.k. It was pretty quiet this time around, so it was nice having a nice-sized party with voices that project because the owner agreed, per my request, that the music should be turned up a little louder, making it a lot more fun ;)
I would recommend giving this place a try! Great food, good drinks, warm and friendly staff, nice ambiance, and the sort of place that would have a good handful of regulars. ALSO, both bars upstairs and downstairs have flat screen TV's playing whatever game is on.
The Calamari, Asian Spring Rolls, Lobster Mac & Cheese (yes, you read that correctly), Pan-Seared Salmon (which comes with steamed asparagus, and a small portion of ceasar salad), and the Chocolate Fondue are a DEFINITE recommendation to try if you dare!
PLEASE NOTE:
1) The Parking Lot is very small, can hold maybe 8 or 9 cars, but there is parking on the opposite side of the street and possible availability in the Roslyn station commuter parking lot just up the corner. Check the signs if whether or not you need a train commuter permit to park there..
2) Take the notice of my "unchanged historical foundation" comment - COBBLE STONE DRIVEWAY: Ladies, please be careful wearing really cute high heels because you could actually hurt yourself walking up to the door if your stilettos get caught in between the gaps of the pathway! I've heard it HAS happened. Add that with intoxication and yea.. just be careful ;) SLANTED STAIRWELL: They must be stone or uneven wood underneath the carpeted stairs going up to the lounge from the bar, because a couple steps are more uneven than others and you could lose your footing. I was wearing sneakers and got tripped up on the last two steps.
3) The lounge upstairs is currently only open THURS - SUN!
This spot is definitely a nice little gem in the area of Roslyn restaurants. Has it's own unique little flair. I hope you go visit and Enjoy!!
