Went here after work with a group of people.  Me and a friend placed our food order with the bartender and she totally didn't put the order in.  It was late and wanted to leave so we asked another bartender if he knew when the food was going to be ready.  He asked the girl and she whispered that she forgot to put it in.  At that point we just wanted to go home so I told the guy that if it was never put in, just forget it.  Of course he wouldn't admit it was a mistake and had the cook quickly make the food but I really would have rathered to leave.  Especially when they finally serverd us their poor excuse for sliders.

For this past Valentine's Day, I was on the search for a hip, sexy, trendy spot, with good food, not too expensive, with GREAT cocktails, to suit a group of 8 - and Chalet fit the bill.

It's a historical landmark building, circa 1832, and at one time was either a stable or part of a larger Gold Coast estate. Protected by NY State, the foundation can not be changed or altered in any way.. so the exterior of this building has a sturdy, old-fashioned charm, with dark solid wood and a cobble stone walkway/parking lot.

The restaurant has three floors: The first being a bar/tap room, the second being a lounge, and the third is reserved for private parties and also has access to an outdoor patio area available in season ONLY. The ambiance on each floor is completely different. The first floor is a little more rugged, dark with bar stools, and wood in every which direction you look. The lounge has a full bar, fine hardwood floors, a white interior, glass tables to dine from, long leather couches and low stools/chairs for seating, has accents of red, large format vintage paintings on the wall, and a nice little fireplace. The third floor is similar to the second, but much smaller and with more of a "private harem" vibe. The bathrooms for the second and third are also up here.

The cuisine is classified as "American/Electic", so the range of appetizers goes from like guac. and chips, to cheese quesadillas, calamari, burger sliders, wings, and crab cakes; there are also various soups and salads (Greek, Caesar, and French Onion, for example); entrees range from pastas, salmon, ribeye, and lamp chops; and desserts feature an impressive chocolate fondue, strawberry/banana/nutella crepes, and chocolate lava cake amongst others. MAJOR YUM on the chocolate fondue!

As far as food goes, everything about it from A-Z was absolutely great. Well-prepared, wonderful presentation, brought out in a timely manner, served with a smile, and was just damn delicious. Cocktails?? Fantastic. They've got a great selection of martinis (love martinis...) and can prepare you pretty much any drink to your liking.

I heard from the bartender, Theresa, that Thurs thru Sun it's POPPIN'!! And it can get a little loud and rowdy with bumpin music and a DJ, really packed too!

This being my first visit, I was impressed that my party and I were personally greeted and seated by the owner - Kevin - who took a moment at various intervals during our meal to check in and make sure everything was going o.k. It was pretty quiet this time around, so it was nice having a nice-sized party with voices that project because the owner agreed, per my request, that the music should be turned up a little louder, making it a lot more fun ;)

I would recommend giving this place a try! Great food, good drinks, warm and friendly staff, nice ambiance, and the sort of place that would have a good handful of regulars. ALSO, both bars upstairs and downstairs have flat screen TV's playing whatever game is on.

The Calamari, Asian Spring Rolls, Lobster Mac & Cheese (yes, you read that correctly), Pan-Seared Salmon (which comes with steamed asparagus, and a small portion of ceasar salad), and the Chocolate Fondue are a DEFINITE recommendation to try if you dare!

    PLEASE NOTE:
    1) The Parking Lot is very small, can hold maybe 8 or 9 cars, but there is parking on the opposite side of the street and possible availability in the Roslyn station commuter parking lot just up the corner. Check the signs if whether or not you need a train commuter permit to park there..

    2) Take the notice of my "unchanged historical foundation" comment - COBBLE STONE DRIVEWAY: Ladies, please be careful wearing really cute high heels because you could actually hurt yourself walking up to the door if your stilettos get caught in between the gaps of the pathway! I've heard it HAS happened. Add that with intoxication and yea.. just be careful ;) SLANTED STAIRWELL: They must be stone or uneven wood underneath the carpeted stairs going up to the lounge from the bar, because a couple steps are more uneven than others and you could lose your footing. I was wearing sneakers and got tripped up on the last two steps.

    3) The lounge upstairs is currently only open THURS - SUN!

This spot is definitely a nice little gem in the area of Roslyn restaurants. Has it's own unique little flair. I hope you go visit and Enjoy!!

Pros: I made a last minute reservation for my birthday and although they didn't have any rooms left, they accommodated me in the downstairs bar area for my large party. I was very impressed at how to bartender did not charge me for one of my grey goose on the rocks all night because she knew it was my birthday. (hope i'm not getting her in trouble, here.) The DJ was asking what I wanted to hear, and giving me birthday shout outs, lol. The food was excellent, and the outdoor couch area was super nice and comfy. I definitely felt welcome.

    Cons: not crowded enough.
Also, my mom called and asked if she could bring a cake for me and bring it out later. They said no problem, but didn't inform her until she got there that there was a $2/person fee for cutting the cake... which doesn't sound like a lot, but when you have 18 people, it adds up. I also found this man incredibly pompous and arrogant, but maybe that's just me.  After we told him we weren't informed of this charge, they waved the fee.
I was also surprised when they told my friend he could not put his part of the meal on his credit card when he had to leave early.

Other than the small hiccups, everything was really nice. I'd go back for dinner, for sure.

Came with a party of 6. Had a reservation for over a week. Still had to wait outside in the sweltering heat. 45 minutes later we were crammed into a corner. 30 minutes later the server finally came over to takeur order. 30 minutes again before food arrived. all 6 un impressed. Server had a real attitude by now. When we didn't order desert the bill was tossed onto theable. I live and work locally. Inb the 70's this was a great place. It's a shame. In my business I am always asked where to eat. It won't be here.

I was here for the first time last night and had a real good time. The atmosphere was relaxed, the bartender was a nice guy, the food was very good and so were the cocktails. I can see myself becoming a regular here.

Arrived here around 1130pm on a Thursday and it was JUMPING! Packed wall to wall, with some great loud music. I have to give credit to Charlie, the bartender for making such great drinks amidst a demanding crowd. Unfortunately the upstairs was closed, so I could not experience the outdoor roof deck, but I shall return.

I've been here 3 times over the past year for separate events, the latest being drinks with a friend for her birthday last weekend.  When we entered the downstairs, there were 3 older guys sitting around the bar in silence.  We felt weird, so we took our party upstairs.  I have to say that I generally like the upstairs part... some strange decor, but pleasantly lit and clean.  Sometimes the floor is seriously slanted (near the staircase) which isn't so good for a girl who likes to go out drinking in her heels.

The bartender wasn't very efficient... she gave me a diet coke when I asked for a Jack & Coke, and got a few other things wrong throughout the night.  I can hardly blame her, though, because there is a speaker mounted over the middle of the bar that was BLASTING club music so loudly, my hair was aching.  I don't mind music... it's a staple.  But, no one was even dancing and it was unnecessarily cranked.  In fact, it drove me away from the bar to the outside patio, which I'm pretty sure is the opposite of what a bar should be doing.  To the bartender's credit, though, I think she realized I was feeling underwhelmed so she gave me a beer on the house.

The patio is lovely and open with plenty of tables which is nice for a smoker like myself.  The crowd varied, too... from 50-somethings who were there for some food and drinks, to a younger crowd that generally kept to themselves.

Came here for a private party on New Year's Eve (yes I realize I'm very lazy about reviewing). We were in the upstairs part of the bar. It was a fun time and a nice place but the room was TINY for how many people we had (it was hard not to spill out into the next room). It wasn't a problem though since we could make our way to the back bar for drinks as well. The waitress was always around offering drinks and food. I thought it was too expensive for what we ended up getting, even for NYE.

The bartenders and wait staff were friendly though so I'd come back for drinks on a regular night.

Was on the lookout for a lounge-y type place where one could eat fondue and not feel pressured to drink, and this was what I wanted.  I called and they said the dress code was no sleeveless shirts - but they're not that strict anyhow.  We went upstairs on a weekday night, got a table, ordered fondue and ordered some sodas, hung around for two hours at a table with some privacy.  The fondue was good although I always want all fondue places to give me more chocolate.

the chalet doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but appearances are deceiving in this case.  the inside more closely resembles an artsy townhouse with dim lighting, soft couches and a warm fireplace. the tapas menu has a few yummy noshes particularly the mac and cheese and crab cake sliders. the martini menu is decent too. i recommend the lycee. a great option for a girls night.

    Bar / Ghetto lounge.

I tend to avoid the Chalet for a variety of reasons but we popped in here the other night since it does go late.

I used to detest the downstairs but preferred the upstairs lounge area better but they have changed it somewhere along the way and now my feelings are totally reversed.  The downstairs bar has been brightened / cleaned up and the upstairs lounge area is all ghetto - and totally empty on a Friday night.  Ouch.

The lounge rooms are all too sterile for my tastes - everything seems to be white - I like my lounges on the dark side.  There is nothing romantic about it up there.  There is a bar on the 2nd floor as well that caters more to the lounge goers - it was pretty much 3 dudes and a bartender doing nothing.

Meanwhile, the downstairs bar is rocking, the bartender - Charlie -is the man with the plan and we had a freaking blast.

Final analysis - the place still attracts a serious bunch of drinkers - people who shouldn't be still drinking tend to end up here instead of at home.  Enough boys and girls for everyone to talk to.

Found another gem.... Ladies if  you are lucky enough to have someone in your life that is honest, loving and caring... this is a great romantic place to go. It is very cozy, dim.. has a fireplace, upstairs VIP room.

...This time it was a girl's night out and still had a GREAT time. We shared the fondue and a humus platter. Everything was delicious. The waitress was friendly and very good!

Take someone special here... don't sell yourself short... ladies-set higher standards!!)

It's definitely different with it's downstairs bar and upstairs lounge. Very dark and kind of romantic with all of it's different cozy couches.  They have fondue which is always good, can't really go wrong with that.  Other than that, went for drinks a few times.  Cute place to go in the winter.

On Long Island, bar-hopping can be a scary endeavor. Herds of men with spiked haircuts, bad accents, and gold jewelry are a major deterrent. Thankfully we discovered that the pretty but obscure structure next to the remotely located 7-11 was not a private chalet, but a really hot bar! There are lots of little rooms, nooks and crannies, and the deco is almost goth-fab; velvet curtains, leopard print fur, antique lamps, loungey couches. There's even an outdoor area for the smokers and fresh air fiends. The food is nothing noteworthy- typical pub grub. A sweet escape from the LI guido meat market, the Chalet has a great atmosphere to just kick it with some buddies and throw back a few drinks when the trek to Manhattan just seems like too much effort.

I greatly regret that I lived in the vicinity of this bar for years and only recently checked it out for the first time.  The atmosphere was a great improvement over the typical Long Island bar, and all the bar staff that I have interacted with have been friendly and make the drinks a bit strong, just as I like it.  I prefer to go on weekdays, because it gets overcrowded on weekends.  The food, though decent, is nothing to write home about (or online for that matter).

One of the "Best Places to Kiss" in New York, this gem has gone through a few changes over the years. But it is always fun and welcoming (unless you are a jerk).  The bartenders are great - say hi to Charlie and Brian.  And try a Chicken Club Sandwich from the bar menu
