Amazing piece of history - what an incredible spot to listen to live music, take advantage of the BYO and snack a bit with friends. The balcony is cool, but the room is so intimate that you just can't get much closer to the music --- loved it!

I didn't know about this place until my old college friend from UPenn invited me. His band, Pesky J. Nixon, was playing last Saturday at Chaplin's and I was curious to check it out. I don't really call myself a music snob since I tend to listen to mainstream as well. Yes, I listen to DMB, Coldplay, U2... But, I do try to check out all the indie music around like this small cafe nearby Phoenixville, PA. After listening first to Brittany Ann, I must say that this is a really cool venue with a really intimate-close-up-front entertainment. Then, I had the pleasure of hearing Pesky J. Nixon which shared some stories with the audience and I thought that was really cool. Plus, the band got us to sing-along in the last song. Yeah, only 5-10 people showed up to hear these bands but we all love something a bit different from mainstream. Okay, I have to say that folk music is growing on me. I can't image seeing this kind of music in a large stage. So, I fully support these venues for spreading this kind of music. I am looking forward to seeing Sondre Lerche at the World Cafe nearby UPenn and Drexel. It appears to have the same intimate feel like this one with bigger artists. Well, bigger in the sense that I recognized Sondre Lerche from "Dan in Real Life" soundtrack. Also, I got some email that Edwin McCain as well as the lead singer of the Cranberries is going to be there soon. So, if you ever make it out to Phoenixville, then stop by Chaplin's which is not too far in Spring City. You won't be disappointed... It's a charming little place to relax and sing amongst music-lovers. The only downside to this place is the parking which appears to be only along the street. I can't image if there is a rather "big band/artist" which will pretty much leave you looking around for a spot for your car. Plus, there is not much of a nightlife around here like in Conshohocken, Phoenixville, ... since it's out in the middle of nowhere. Royersford is the nearest city and it's just a bunch of shopping centers.

Small intimate music venue...   attended shows from five piece bands to comedy and is usually pretty good entertainment...  the likes of Jen Chapin (Harry's daughter), Grey Eye Glances, and Liz Longley just to name...

BYOB and good selection of food...  come early and eat...  what I like is they use PayPal and no service charge, but do have a Cork Fee of $4.00 per person...  under new ownership and the uniqueness of the sandwiches were downgraded a bit, but the facilities for the music is better...

Usually a very inexpensive and entertaining evening...  have had from parties from 2, 6 and even 12 attend an event and plan to attend many more...
