The Chill is one of the coziest wine bars in Benicia to just sit down and "chill" at. Â From the large selection of wines and beers to the rare find beverages, Sangria and Cider, The Chill has what you are looking for to fill your glass. Bingo nights are very popular and support good causes. Â The girls behind the bar are fabulous and always greet regulars by name when they walk in the door. Â The Chill is perfectly located next to the Farmer's Market so there's no excuse to pass up this wine bar.
Review Source:The Chill is one of the places I ALWAYS go when we're in downtown Benicia. It's laid back, but usually fairly busy. The wine list is fair enough, but the crowd is a little mellower than at some of the other places we frequent on First Street.
I love the option to sit inside or outside. it's not super cheap but it's always a great place to start the evening or to go for just one drink on a mellow night.
We love going here. Good atmosphere, nice decor, very relaxed, summertime on the patio is the best. Especially if you have a dog.
We consider ourselves regulars! Need more of a white wine selection. Dessert wines would be a plus. Or possibly Smirnoff Ice.
Still love going here! Taryn is the best. She makes you feel so welcome and it's fun to be around her. She is the biggest reason we go there.
Cute place, nice wine list, helpful staff. What wasn't super was the smell of stale beer and cigar and/or cigarette smoke coming from somewhere we couldn't determine, but definitely permeating the air inside. Â Also, the website says they offer food, but when we were there last night, they had "nuts or some crackers and cheese", which is fine, but if you are counting on eating, dine elsewhere first. I would come back to visit with a girlfriend over a nice glass of wine in a semi-quiet atmosphere, for sure.
Review Source:I'm forever reminded of the night I received a phone call from a family friend telling me that my step father was dancing on the bar here playing his harmonica!
This is the place to do just as the name suggests, CHILL. The bartenders are friendly, and quick. They like to start-up conversations, and remember your drink! I could go on and on, but really, it would be too long of a post.
Give it a try, I'm sure you'll enjoy more than the wine!
I've never been disappointed! Yummy sangria and an excellent selection of wine and beer. Prices are ok and its a very laid back atmosphere. Gets a bit loud at times but it has nice tables outside to take a breather. They are always doing fun events and tastings. Bartenders have always been friendly and quick to take care of us. Their suggestions are always helpful. I come here to catch up with old friends and enjoy a relaxing evening on First Street.
Review Source:When I'm on the other side of the bridge, visiting family and hanging out in the area I grew up in, I make it a point to visit this fine establishment. Â If you are new to drinking wines or are normally intimidated with the terminology and technicalities of the activity, this place would put you at ease. Â I'm digging this wave of "blue-collar" wine bars that I'm just getting keen to. Â This is a beer and wine bar in every sense of the word with friendly, irresistibly cute bartenders, complimentary nuts, and good, cheap wines and beer to quench the thirst.
Review Source:*Deep breath in, deep breath out.* There now, don't we feel better? :) Just the name of this place calms me down!
The Chill is a "go-to" spot for us Benicia-natives; especially when the goal of the evening is to talk, relax, and enjoy- rather than forget our names, location, and common sense.
The bartenders are extremely friendly and the atmosphere is inviting. I especially like sitting up front at the round table and chairs. They always serve something I'm bound to like!
The only "negative" I can think out is the layout over all. With the extremely long counter space, this place is more rectangular- less square, which really seems to bother me. If you aren't sitting at the front or the back, it gets a little squished!
The Chill, indeed. This place is very low key - upscale-feeling venue, without any of the pretension that can accompany wine bars. Great place to hole up on a gloomy Saturday afternoon.
The bartenders were friendly and attentive - they even offered us cookies because they happened to have them! The wine selection was good, but not amazing. Again, this is not really a fancy 200 wines at $10 a glass kind of place... just some good, solid wines, as fair prices.
I'll definitely be back!
Love, love, love The Chill! Â Such a cute, comfy, perfect little spot for a glass of wine with the hubby. Â
Great bartenders, lovely little wine and beer list, Sangria that is second to none, great  music,  and an atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home makes for a local spot that rocks!
Things really get hopping on Thurday nights during the Farmer's Market, when it can get crowded, but if you get there a little early and stake out your space, you're set.
Stop in and enjoy a glass of Rombauer Zin...we did tonight, and had a splendid time!
Had an hour or two to burn before meeting up with someone, so I went here with my girlfriend to grab a quick drink. Â I had a pint and she had a glass of wine. Â The tap selection was limited, but not unexpected as this really is a wine bar. Â Prices were fair, if not slightly high given the area.
We were there on a Thursday night and the only people under the age of probably 40 were the female bartenders. Â There were a LOT of boozey divorcees enjoying themselves.
Overall, a decent spot, best if one is older and looking for a glass of wine.
This is a nice, cozy joint.
It's worth checking out if you're just looking for a straight up drinking establishment. There's no dancing here.
It wasn't too crowded on a Friday night, the service was good, and the drink were fairly priced.
This part of Benicia is pretty nice to explore--especially when the Farmers' Market is going on.
I can sit out front wit my dog, they have fresh water out for the pups, and they have one of my fave Pinots... Can't beat that really. Â Love to pop by now and then! Â Decent Prices, nice people who work there, and I actually see people I know therre, unlike most times at Rellik, where I walk in and think "who the hell ARE these people?" Â If I am not feeling Lucca's I come here!
Review Source:I don't normally go out in downtown Benicia. Â There is just much left to be desired. Â I have gone to The Chill on more than one occasion, and I like it. Â It's a small place, but they have a nice wine selection, and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. Â
If you're looking to have a drink or two and just unwind, this is the perfect place. Â I don't go very often, but if I do decide to go grab a drink in Benicia, this is normally the top of my list.
I like The Chill. Â Just like The Rellik Tavern, I don't see myself coming here more than once a month, if that. Â However, it's a place I know I can take some friends who like wine and want to hang out, be able to hear each other talk, and get great service from behind the bar. Â I like that there are tables out front, but I forgot to check if you can drink outside or not.
Review Source:This place is really nice and relaxed. The owner is awesome and the bartenders are super cool. Beers on tap are amazing (tall glasses), wine and champagne selection... the atmosphere is diverse and you'll get a nice mix of different people. Â If you get there early in the night it tends to have an older audience, but later it gets more mixed. Location is perfect.
Review Source:Ok, I've been there again several more times....
*different bartenders (Emily, Kelly and Dana--LOVE)
*different patrons from before
*different music selections (Nelly Furtado, some Brit pop...),
*chatted with the bar's super-friendly owner, Lynne  (LOVE)
*actually ate food there this time (cheese platter--copious amounts of damn good cheese to go with your damn good wine):
ALL WONDERFUL!!!
It's official. Â I'm hooked.
PS Â Highly recommend the Hey Mambo meritage--luscious, garnet-red, and well, it's almost sexy. Â $7/glass.
PPS Â They have way more beer selections than I first thought--like 20+, including what they have on tap.
So we've been back there and I had a great time. Yes, it's not 100% upscale and yes there was someone eating pizza at the bar. But so what. It's still one of the nicest places in Benicia to get a drink. The staff was super nice and attentive and the drinks were good. You can get Sangria there FYI. I know I said the vibe was strange but I get it now. It's Benicia.
Review Source:I was pleasantly surprised by the wine selection. Â I went here with a bunch of long time friends to catch up over a few drinks. Â The staff was friendly and the prices were reasonable. Â I paid $10 for a nice pour of the 7 deadly Zins. Â Â FYI - the bathrooms are outside. Â People go out back and in the front to smoke. Â It can be hard to form conversational groups because the main path is between the bar seats and the tables - but somehow we managed!
Review Source:I've been in here a few times. Â Note that you can have a totally different experience here depending on what day you show up. Â But the wine is always great. My favorites are the white blend Obsession and 7 Deadly Zins Zin. Â
On thursdays it is totally and completely crowded! Wall to wall, back to front, people loud and laughing, getting soused and having a great time doing it. They were mostly middle age-rs (such as myself) very casually dressed. Mostly singles in groups but also some guys hanging out to watch the sports with no sound, and some couples.
2nd time was on a weekend and there was NOBODY inside - deserted and very quiet. Weird.
Decided that it must be the Thursday farmer's market that brings them in here - people shop the market on the street out front and then wander in for a glass or two before wandering back home with their freshies.
Definitely worth a visit even if just to have one great glass of wine.
This is the perfect place to hang out with your buddies when you aren't in the mood for the rowdy O'Leary's crowd or the cover charge at Choices. Â This place is the perfect first and last stop. Â The wine is good, the staff are friendly, and patrons are chill. Â Personally, I like that the bathroom is outside. Â The front deck is perfect for "chillin" on a warm summer night (and for laughing at the drunk people stumbling outside Choices across the street). Â If you are in town, stop on by...
Review Source:The Chill is as a few have eluded "chill." Â Something unexpected in in the quiet little bedroom community that aspires to the tourist heights of Sausalito or Carmel where the local fair is a mix of dive bars, cute tourist shops and coastal themed dining. Â The Chill. Â Why are you in Benicia? Â You live there, you work there? Â Passing through, maybe visiting family?
An easy setting, low lighting, casual yet upscale feel. Â An excellent wine and beer selection served up by friendly, accommodating staff (maybe the owner or the owners family?)
The Chill is perfect for relaxing on the way home from the office, with friends/guests, and I'd say even to bring clients. Â Some great beers and dynamite wine list make this a necessary downtown Benicia destination.

Came in last night for the first time. Cool little spot we have in Benicia and the name for the place is perfect. Service was good and the atmosphere at first was really chill and relaxed. A group came in getting pretty loud and was sounding all "yuppie'ish". They have a cool chill spot right in the front that can get kinda crammed. Gotta keep alcohol within a 12x12 roped off area or move it back inside. Would be nice if that space was bigger. I thought the prices were very fair. I would have to pay double in SF for what we had.
All in all it was a good experience and im sure once we get the kids out of our hair again we'll come back if we stay local.
A wine and Beer bar, great little place to Chill :o) Small, yet perfect for a double date or just a great place to go with a friend to unwind. The service is amazing, they're really on top of it. It has this beautiful copper bartop, which is long and faces mirrors to give the feeling that the space is larger. Good wine and beer selection. I love this place!
