I realize this is Childress and I didn't have high expectations for this place, but I was still not impressed.
The outside of the restaurant is pretty rough. Â Inside is a little better, but still old. Â We showed up at 4:45, which we thought would mean all the food would be fresh, but there were only a few other people eating and almost all of the steam table trays were picked through with half a tray of food that had been sitting around for a good while. Â Not very appetizing. Â I found out they open at 10am, so who knows how long the food had been sitting around. Â I finally found a few things that looked halfway decent and they didn't taste too bad, but you shouldn't have to circle a buffet multiple times before getting the courage to scoop something onto your plate. Â You should want to try a bunch of things and be excited!
Service was friendly.
Like Kristen, I was looking for something that resembled healthy for dinner. Â I read her review and rolled into the CB. Â Luckily, she was right. Â I found a nice little salad bar, a good selection of dinner items, and I was fully satisfied without blowing the calories too much. Â Def the best option in Childress for a healthy dinner. Â Try this place or Childress Bakery's Weight Watcher lunch special for a healthy lunch.
I gave it 4 stars because some of the dishes had sat there a bit too long when I came in, but they were quickly replacing them. Â Go around 6pm for dinner.
If you read my other reviews of restaurants in Childress, you'll quickly realize that I am not the biggest fan of eateries here. Â That having been said, this is my favorite restaurant in town. Â The food is consistent. Â I can get in and out quickly. Â There is actually food that has not been deep-fried. Â I can get in and out under $10. Â Odd thing about this Chinese restaurant - they serve chicken strips. Â Strikes me as funny every time. Â My favorite things here are the cream cheese wontons and the egg drop soup (with a dash of rooster sauce - the red sauce in the bottle with the rooster on it). Â You can't go wrong with these two items on the buffet. Â Oh, and the buffet often has lots of veggies too! Â One other good thing is that if you have a big group, it is easy to get seats together and it is easy to pay separately.
