J T's Drive In

Good barbecue, generous portions, but a bit overpriced and poor service.  Only teenagers on duty . . . More interested in talking to each other than waiting on customers.

Passing through Childress and wanted a Burger.   This drive in was Awesome for a Great Cheeseburger.  The fries were crispy and very fresh. The Staff was friendly, the restaurant was clean, the food was Great.  We sat inside the small dining room for a while then moved out front to the picnic tables.  The BBQ grill, shaped like a locomotive train car, was in action and the smell of smoked BBQ was nice.  We enjoyed our burgers and fries and definitely will make this place a regular pit stop on future trips down Hwy 287 through Childress.

Solid 3 1/2 stars.  We had the brisket meal and the sausage meal.  All was smoked out front next to the picnic benches.  The portions were sized appropriately and cam with beans, bread, and coleslaw.  Brisket was tender and juicy.  Sausages were in a sweet smokey sauce.  The kicker were the "fried bottle caps", battered and deep fried jalapenos.  spicy as all get out, but TASTY!  The ladies working there were friendly and seemed to know everyone's name by heart.  If you are driving through, stop here for some good BBQ.
