As a new resident of Shelley, I'm glad we have a couple of places to eat in our little town. And honestly, since moving to Southeast Idaho, I've had a really hard time finding good Chinese food. So this place is probably on par with the rest of the Chinese restaurants in the area. But it's just really not too great.
I picked up an order of General Tso's chicken and hot and sour soup the other night. I paid $20, which is pretty expensive for just those two items.
The chicken was decent, but the soup was awful. It was thick and sweet, not sour at all. Vinegar is usually what makes hot and sour soup sour, and there obviously was none in it. So, I added my own vinegar at home. I'm sorry, but I don't like paying $7 for some soup that I have to doctor up myself to make it edible. Oh, and it had canned tomatoes in it. Usually you don't have tomatoes in this soup, so it was a little bizarre, and not tasty.
If we had a craving for Chinese and didn't feel like driving to Idaho Falls, I guess we'd come back here for the General Tso's. I'd like to try more dishes as well, I just hope they're actually worth the money, and I'm a little hesitant to come here again.
They have some good dishes, but overall they're really hit and miss. Â I don't care for their noodles, but their rice is fine, and the more exotic-sounding dishes tend to be pretty good. Â The American food is bland and simple (no tomato on a simple hamburger, etc.) Â
This is also one of the few places in Shelley (perhaps the only place in Shelley) that's big enough for a group. Â Great location for a birthday party if you're not up for driving to Idaho Falls.
