We've lived in Shelley for four months now and until tonight, hadn't really tried any restaurants in town (not that there's very many...) other than Arctic Circle and a disappointing takeout experience from the Chinese food place.
So we ventured over to Madrigals for a Saturday night dinner. We were the only ones there, which might've been alarming in any other town but in a place as small as Shelley, it wasn't very surprising. The atmosphere could be better here, so that's where the one star comes off. I mean, it's clean and everything is fine, it just doesn't scream five-star-restaurant.
We had a teenage boy serving us, and he was very nice and attentive. Chips and salsa were great and he kept them coming, always bonus points in my book. I had the combo plate with a shredded beef enchilada and chile relleno, the husband had the enchiladas Mexicana. Everything was really good, no real complaints. My enchilada was a little smaller than most restaurants, but I still had plenty of food so it wasn't really an issue. The chile relleno was delicious. And they offer you bottles of both red and green hot sauce. We got both. The green was this amazing, creamy salsa verde and I loved it. And the prices? Very good. Both our meals were $6.99 each. I don't think I saw anything on the menu over $8.99, seafood dishes included.
Now onto the best part. When it came time to pay, they told us their card machine was down. We didn't have cash on us, so we said we'd run over to the ATM at the bank then come right back. The sweet lady (I'm guessing the owner/co-owner? She's the cook, too) just smiled and told us we could pay next time. Now, that'll only happen in a place like little Shelley! Anyway, we ended up just going to the ATM like we said, but it was so nice how sweet and trusting they were! Between the super sweet lady and the teenage boy who waited on us, the customer service at this place is reason alone to be repeat customers. They're just such a nice family!
So anyway, we tend to go to Idaho Falls for our date nights and dinners out, but now that we know about this place, I'm sure we'll be back soon!
It's back. The only good Mexican restaurant in Shelley. The food here is good and the seats are very uncomfortable. So eat fast. The inside like everything else in Shelley is  a little run down and no frills. Its food here. Its not the best Mexican but for the area its very good and a pleasure for the tongue. Worth visiting and then repeating your last visit and eat again.
I need to try the breakfast, it looks good.
