Great music on Sunday night....but the food and service were the worst I've ever had in years.  Go for the music and a drink...don't eat there.

The only reason I gave it two stars is because the food is good. The service is HORRIBLE! They take too long to take your order and bring your food to you. Expect to be there for awhile make sure you have time to spare if you want to eat there. The prices are super high! Their drinks are extremely expensive even during happy hour. I enjoy their food but I don't think I would go back gain.

Typical Chinese, one of a few Chinese food landmarks on the North-Centralside of Oxnard. The South end begins South of Wooley.

We used to eat here. Dining in was a good experience. Good food and good service THEN, we ordered for pick up one evening. The food quality was entirely different and the chicken was bad, spoiled, gone south.  Too bad. I love Chinese.

Daytime version of Club Zen? I can't really give a fair review...I'm spoiled with Chinese food from Monterey Park / SGV! Not bad, kind of pricy.

My daughters and I wanted Chinese food the first night of our vacation and Chinaland was what we happened upon.  We should have continued on.  it did satisfy our craving but not in the best way.  We took none of our left-overs with us.
I was unable to identify what was in the vegetable egg foo yung.  Tasted almost like a bad potato pancake.
The mu shu pork was good but came pre-wrapped.  Had never seen it served that way.
Next time, I will do some research before just "settling" on a restaurant.

    Casual Dining  4/5/2008

Unless you're a local, Chinaland is probably a restaurant that you wouldn't intend to visit.  Even if you are a local, you've probably only glanced at it when you've driven by the Oxnard airport.

Why does it seemingly give you this negative vibe?  Well, you're in South Oxnard for one, it's also located at the corner of the CVS plaza, the area is kind of run-down, and it's not near any of the freeways.  However, this hasn't stopped me and my parents from frequenting this place since I was in middle school.

To be honest, it actually doesn't differ from many of the Chinese restaurants that you could find in Chinatown, but that doesn't mean much. They still use the same rubbery meat (It kind of makes me wonder why I've never actually found a cut of meat that resembles anything like that), perfectly sliced 'zigzag' carrots, and the same monotonous sauce used in many of their dishes.

So why do we still go there? I don't know exactly.  But they don't use MSG and their staff are really good people.  Their vegetables are fresh and you can see one of the older ladies snapping the ends of the long beans to prep them for cooking.  Their Chinaland special crispy noodles are also above average, and well... that's really about it.

I'd give this:  a 10/20.  It's your typical Chinese food fare, with an added bonus of No MSG and wonderful service.  If you live near the area, it wouldn't hurt to order takeout.  However, if you're actually looking for a good dinner for the same prices, visit Peking Inn at Camarillo.
