Had lunch here for the first time on Sunday, July 7th.  I ordered the special of the day, which was ham & cheese quiche.  I love quiche and have enjoyed it many places.  The server asked if that was all I wanted, just the quiche, or did I want something else like fruit or french fries with it.  I said fruit would be good.  Obviously the meal didn't come with anything but the quiche.  So she brings it, and the tiny little round quiche, about the size of a frozen, single serve pot pie, was all alone on the plate.  The small dish of melon pieces was an extra $2.50.  The quiche was the worst I have ever had.  It was overdone and dry, had almost no cheese in it, and very little filling as it had all been cooked out (probably microwaved).  It was very salty, and the crust tasted like burnt shoe leather.  It was so obvious this was a frozen thing that was just popped in the microwave for too long, and wouldn't have been restaurant worthy...let alone $8.00 worth, no matter what they did to it.  The waitress was completely indifferent, and when she came to take the plates, most of my quiche was still on it, and I told her it was the worst I've ever had in my life, and I'm 70 years old.  There was just no excuse for it.  She took it away and mumbled something about "I'll take it off the check" as she was leaving.  No apology or any attempt to make things better, though she didn't charge us for it.  So sadly, we won't be returning there, and are still looking for a decent restaurant in Old Town McKinney on the square.

Today was our first visit to Churchill's, and will definitely be our last.  The quaint old atmosphere is great, but all good things about the place stop there.  The service was slow and beyond terrible; our waitress was clueless as to how to actually provide service at a basic level, and we got up and took care of our own drink refills.  Food order finally arrived after a long wait, and it was 100% wrong, so both plates went back to the kitchen.  More waiting, although there were few patrons (now we know why.)  The order came, and I nearly gagged at the gruesome plate of food my husband got: the Chicken Tikka Masala literally looked like a plate of green vomit, completely void of anything with color, although the bright red coating on the chicken buried in the sauce (still don't know what that scary stuff was) did provide a glimpse of color.  He asked for a side dish of peas, and got a tiny saucer of waterlogged, tasteless frozen peas and carrots (which he can't eat.)  I ordered Fish & Chips, and the french fries (obviously frozen) were only half cooked.  The fish was utterly tasteless - not a speck of seasoning.  When we told the waitress about the problems with the food, her only response was "it's because of the transition between brunch and lunch..."......???????  Right.  We got our bill and left as quickly as possible, then went somewhere else to actually get some real food, because we were still hungry.  At no time did our waitress offer even a remote hint of friendliness, apology for the bad service and food, did not ask if we wanted dessert, or offer a complimentary discount or other food item to compensate for the disaster.....nothing.  She silently laid the check on the table without a thank you, I'll take that whenever you're ready, or any words that normally come out of a server's mouth.  Needless to say, our tip reflected her attitude and skill - lousy.

Couldn't even find service. Sat down and had servers walk by us for 10 minutes and never even were asked to put in a drink order.  We left and went to The Pub McKinney.

I love the idea of this place maybe slightly more than I loved the experience. Such a cool layout. Nice patio. Awesome bar, cozy booths by a fireplace...it's got such a great vibe. and the service wasn't bad. The first time that I went, we sat at the bar, and it was dead, so the bartender was extremely attentive, and awesome. I had the fish and chips, which were really good. Not the best I've ever had, but totally decent. I went again for my second time yesterday, and ordered the blackened mahi mahi, and it was incredible!! My friend ordered some sort of smoked turkey blt with a hard boiled egg inside. it was also delicious! Their cocktail list was impressive, but we both opted for Jack and Ginger Ales. Next time...I'd love to try one of their specialty house drinks...amazing beer selection too. Will definitely be back.

Fun atmosphere in an old historic building. You can play darts and I think I saw a pool table. The food  served here is the biggest weakness.  The burger was a  skinny microscopic portion of meat, even though the menu reads 8 ounces. Served with a  huge semi-stale bun.  Chicken sandwich was plain and less than delicious. The best part of the meal was the onion rings.  They came to the table hot and crisp. Service was efficient and friendly.  Overall a disappointment though..

I ordered the country club breakfast because I was told it was the most popular and the eggs were dry and the potatoes frozen . The waitress was very unattentive and seemed to be more interested in texting than serving. The lighting would be fine for a pub setting but for breakfast it needs more light, I had to move my menu into the light to be able to read it.

UPDATE: Revisited Churchill's British Pub against my will last Saturday night (10/27/12) and as much as I hate to admit it I had a wonderful time. The Pub was warm and friendly and the wait staff were FANTASTIC. The blonde (so sorry I don't know her name) was so attentive and effecient. And even though the brunette (again sorry) was not our tables waitress...she kept the energy in the room up and fun. I will go back if these two are working. And i have to add...the bartenders must have been on their game also because the drinks came out fast and good.

Have lived in McKinney for some time and had our first meal at Churchill's today. After Church we decided to give it a try for breakfast. The food was okay, however the young lady who waited on us had a zero personality and gave off vibes that she was miserable. It went so far as a really dirty look she gave us as we were leaving.  Have a granddaughter who works in food service and we know the importance of a pleasant personality.  When she brought our check (which was wrong the first time around) not a word was said. First check was for a party of five or six, including three kids meals. We were two adults. There was not even a table, at that time, that resembled the ticket we were given. it was not even a busy time. Our server was busy so we returned the check to another employee, who was very nice. We did not complain just asked for our correct check.  Our original girl returned in a few minutes with the correct bill, and again said nothing but had a definite scowl on her face.  With the choice of so many places to eat, in a concentrated area, we would be hard pressed to return due to this restaurant. Between breakfast, lunch, and dinner we eat out four to six times a week and have not had an experience like this in a long time, if ever.

Incredible atmosphere, good food, friendly faces and extensive drink list.

Found this place early Saturday afternoon before Mckinney's Oktoberfest and couldn't have been happier.

Had a very friendly server, who made it his job to ensure our glasses were full and the TV was cycling between our favorite College Football games.

Had the Shepherds Pie, was very delicious. They also have an impressive Whiskey selection and reasonably priced flights of Whiskey for tasting.

5 Stars! Great Place. Ask for Marie, she's the owner and is a lovely individual.

A pretty true to the real thing pub in McKinney...actually, very true to the real thing..We meet our friends from across the pond there, and truly enjoy the fish and chips...with a Guinness, of course...the salmon on the Sunday Brunch menu is fantastic..Marie, the owner, is always so friendly (as is all her staff)...Love it. For those who gripe, go to the UK and see how authentic it truly is..quit trying to "Americanize it". Oh! and don't forget the bread pudding...too die for!!!

Went here for a taste of British food during the Olympics.  The fish & chips were good, nothing overly special.  The Shepherd's Pie was good, but definitely not worth the $10.95 price tag, it was tiny.  I would go back, but probably to try the brunch.

As was stated in a earlier review, the restaurant is in the historic part of McKinney where we try to hang out a little each and every weekend.  We have gotten to know the new owners.  The original owner had two restaurants and there was a divorce.

We have been coming here for years so we know a lot of parties as residents.  One of the interesting and charming part of the pub is that it is allegedly haunted.  A national syndicated show feature the pub a couple of years ago and a conversation should include asking the bartenders whether they have heard or seen anything unusual upstairs.

The food is usually pretty good.  The kitchen is downstairs and the pub is upstairs with lots of televisions and a great atmosphere.  It is awkward situation with the service because of the wait people having to scale up and down the stairs.  I think they have thought about remodeling but it might do more harm than good.

This place has such a wide variety of foods!  Everything from a classic grilled chicken sandwich, to chicken tika masala, to scotch eggs.

The Voodoo Pasta is a MUST-TRY for everyone -- this is the best pasta I have ever eaten at a restaurant, hands down.  The sauce is just amazing.

I attend this place for lunch frequently, and have always sat downstairs.  The guy that is always working at the time I'm here is very friendly and very accommodating.  This is definitely a favorite lunchtime location of mine!

So my husband and I made the mistake of visiting this place a few weeks ago.
We went upstairs to the bar area to have a few drinks and try out the food to see if it could possibly be a new spot for us. Its right on the square, its open late, and its super close to home. Sounds nice, right? Wrong. The tables were sticky and still had drink spots on them. The waitress was just as bland and stale as the food, and the drinks were horrible. We ordered fish and chips. Yuck. Seriously?? I thought this was a Britsh pub. They lack in flavor and were soggy. Spare yourself from ordering them. I've been to England several times and these are just a sad excuse...And to their credit, the drink I did order was a martini...but I don't think I've ever had one that f'd up before. Seriously...I know its a British pub, but if you're going to offer drink options like martinis, at least be able to make it somewhat decently, or take it off the menu all together. Horrible. Such a huge disappointment for the square. I will be looking forward to it shutting down and a new bar opening soon.

Fun atmosphere, cool decor/ theme. Mediocre bar food, terrible service, horrible bartender. Multiple people ordered the same beer (Franconia wheat) and one came out completely cloudy.... After my friend sent it back the waitress came back with another one-- even more cloudy-- and was told "you can drink it even though it looks funny, but the bartender said it tastes fine" then refused to give her a new one! Weird. Literally it was cloudy and darker than apple cider. Most of us in the party are very easy to get along with, and never cause a scene but this was bad. When we thought it couldn't get worse, it kept getting worse. One girl ordered a vodka club soda, and literally just received a club soda.... With limes. Great location and great potential but for a non-local just visiting the square I wouldn't recommend this place, they have some serious kinks to work out.

Two stars for the food. It was sort of lamentable. Four stars for the dark wood and exposed brick British pub atmosphere. Love that! Even it out and we got three stars. Come for a drink and to watch some football, but eat elsewhere.

Very comfortable place with a semi British atmosphere.  The drink offering is impressive, and a fair deal.  I will definitely come back!

We went upstairs to watch some sports and have drinks.  We waited 10 minutes for someone to greet us.  We ordered QUeso and chips and after 20 minutes it still did not arrive.  Instead of checking on our order the bartender was too busy talking to other employees.  We paid out for our one drink and left without ever getting the queso.  We won't return.

Great pub food and awesome atmosphere.  Being from the Northeast, it reminds me of the true bars w/ no frills and nostalgia everywhere. They were very accomodating to kids and we will be back soon!

This cute English restaurant /pub, is located in Historic Downtown McKinney on the square.  My brother was in town and wanted to watch a soccer match, so we headed over for breakfast and the game in the wee hours of the morning.  We were all pleased with our selections, I had the Eggs Benedict. my brother the full English breakfast (HUGE) and husband the eggs and bacon. To be honest, my hollandaise  sauce did not taste homemade, and probably came from a mix, but despite that, we were satisfied. Be sure to order a cider from the bar (no matter HOW EARLY it is) and you'll feel like you're in London on a nice holiday!  The atmosphere upstairs for eats and drinks is best!

Good place to sit at the bar and get drunk. Their soups are actually REALLY good.  I take away 2 stars because of the table service. The soup I order usually has more personality and IQ than the waitress that serves it.  I mean SH*T, can you give me a pen to sign my credit card slip with once in a while?

First time there and we went for breakfast. Probably not a fair assessment, but c'mon, y'all....this is Texas! If you can have Migas on the breakfast menu, you can have real biscuits and gravy! In the south, breakfast biscuits are covered with sausage gravy, right?

Aside from that, the place was relaxed and had a cool vibe. May try to go back for lunch or dinner, or even drinks someday. But not for breakfast.

This place is just So-So... but we love pubs. Maybe it was because it was a Saturday evening and a number of large groups were there. I had the chicken dish and it was not bad, the wife had the pesto chicken sandwich and that was great. The fries were average. We sat outside and the view was great but the guy on the sidewalk playing his guitar and clashing with the music coming out of the speakers for the place. The price of the meal and beer was very reasonable.

I really liked this place...but I am a sucker for pubs.  I had the fish and chips.  I rarely eat anything fried so I was a little worried...but...the batter was very light and tasty.  The fish was good, clean, white fish. The fries were average.  The tarter sauce rocked my world...and that's coming from someone who normally doesn't like tarter sauce of any kind.  My date had the spinach salad and it was pretty good...but overpriced.

They serve Franconia beer...which is a huge plus for me!

I think the decor is legit...and the staff is ever so friendly!

I've only eaten here a couple times but the food, beer and service were all great.  Not only did I love my Bangers and Mash, but everything our large group ordered looked delicious.  We all started with the awesome Scotch Egg which is a battered and fried boiled egg.  I can personally highly recommend the Scotch Egg and Bangers and Mash.  Everyone also really enjoyed the classic Fish and Chips and Steak and Ale Pie.  Cold Bodington beer, friendly and efficient service on the outdoor patio made our visit a very pleasant experience.  The upstairs bar is also a great place to get a drink and a very nice traditional style bar with great service (and awesome Bloody Marys).  English restaurant and pub ambiance-4 stars, Service-4 stars, Food-4 stars, Value-4 stars.

I love this place. It's the closest I can get to the food in Ireland (aw, warm fuzzy memories of Dingle). It's a bit greasy, but then isn't that the point of pub grub? ;)

if you're from mckinney- i mean you lived here for several years or grew up in it then you've been and you love it. It's weird but good. McKinney is no longer a small town with over 100,000 people but you always seem to run into someone you went to school with there. Always a good choice for some darts/pool and a beer on any night.

Just another one of those American "British" pubs that's just about as British as my Russian grandmother......  Probably an ok place for a drink in the bar upstairs, but not for dinner or a British pub atmosphere.   The Smithfield chicken sandwich sounded lovely on the menu with grilled chicken, spinach, tomatoes, and lemon-basil mayonaise on an onion roll. The chicken, unfortunately, was absolutely tasteless and looked to have been previously frozen.   The steak and mushroom pie had a nice crust, but needed seasoning and the juice was watery.  The mango/guava cheesecake was still frozen in the middle when served.  This is such a shame... I've been to many British and Irish pubs in the U.K. and Ireland, and not only do they have atmosphere and good drink, but the pub food is quite good.  And, you can smell the food when you walk in the door.  At Churchill's, the food being "served" didn't even have a savory smell.  Thus, I fear, fast food preparation.....  What a shame.   I do not plan to return.

We ate here last night for a friends birthday. The service was good. The food was not the ordinary ho hum menu! Fun variety of intersting selections, that were pretty tasty.

I give this place 3 stars for the following reasons...

    1. I would have like to see the entrees a smidge cheaper considering the atmostphere was a bit grungy and too small, we felt like we constantly had people on top of us.

    2. We came with the grandparents. And the chairs that they were sat in were broken and too hard for them to sit in comfortably. We looked around for better chairs but they were all pretty bad. If this were my place I would invest in new chairs...

Over all the food was tasty but I give the 3 stars based off of the condition of the resturant. Will I go back?? Sure but just for drinks at the upstairs bar. Now THAT is pretty cool.

(BTW Good for kids, not good for the elderly, which is a shame because grandma can drink with the best of them)

When it was the Londoner, it was great and now that it's Churchill's it's just as great. They put tablecloths and some flowers on the downstairs room and now you can get tea service with scones and cream if you'd like. The upstairs bar is the same great place. The food is still amazing, I've never been let down. There's not much about McKinney that is aimed at the young adult without children, so we frequented this place often. It's fine to bring kids, but most often you'll find small groups of adults with beers watching soccer.

The minute you walk in, you can feel the charm of this place, warm with years of worn wood floors and a huge fire place upstairs.

There's nothing better than Christmas shopping on the McKinney square and then popping in for a beer and Shepherd's Pie to warm up and enjoy the festivities.

Churchill's is what the Londoner would have been if they stayed open and put fancy tablecloths on their tables downstairs.  It's basically the same bar with a different brand and higher prices.

I was sad when I ordered a Franconia Lager and they didn't have it.  How do you run out of a something that is from a McKinney brewery?  Anyway, I went with the Dunkel and it was really good.

Their music selection in the jukebox is okay.  When I was there I noticed someone was REALLY a fan of Phil Collins.  "$5 says the next song is Sussudio."  Thankfully, it wasn't.  As the night progressed, the music got louder and louder until I was yelling to my friends when I was close enough to whisper.  But, it's a bar so who cares!

They have one small pool table and 3 dart boards.  The darts were popular.  One of the darts I was handed had a defective tail that kept popping off when I would throw it.

Some friends ended up joining us later and made the night perfect.  If I could change one thing about Churchill's, I would put in an upstairs patio for smokers.

We have eaten at Churchhill's twice now since they took over from the Londoner.  We are quite impressed.  The first time we went they were still on a limited menu so we had the fish and chips and were very impressed.  The next time we stopped in for breakfast.  I had the French Toast and I loved it.  My husand had the breakfast sampler and it was absolutely huge.  We were both very impressed.  The new owners have done a great job making the downstairs inviting and the whole place is so much cleaner.  I didn't even realize that it had needed the cleaning until they had done it.

After an absolutely perfect lunch across the street at Sauce On the Square, we wandered to Churchill's for one final libation before the trek back home to Dallas.

Welcoming, friendly greeting staff. We first sat downstairs, a small area of a few dining tables and booths. The larger area is upstairs, where the bar is located, with much more room, a fireplace with comfy looking couches in front, and a separate area with a pool table, game machine, etc. & TVs for watching sports.

Andrea, our server downstairs, was so accommodating; when BF ordered an Oktoberfest beer, she asked if he wanted a taste first to be sure he liked it. What a nice thought? She wanted to be sure it met his expectations. Drinks served quickly (even though she had to go upstairs to the bar to get the drinks....I suppose great exercise for the servers...no bar downstairs)

So we sat and chatted about our intended history exploration of Collin County (the original intent of our trip to McKinney to visit the Collin Co Historical Museum, which we never made....next time BEFORE a couple of nice drinks which cause us to chill out and say...next time!)

Second drink, we go upstairs to explore. GREAT area, fun atmosphere, and visited with Dena, the bartender. This restaurant/bar/grill was formerly a location of The Londoner, which was acquired by new owners and the name changed. Dena was so enthusiastic about the forthcoming changes, and obviously loves her job and is encouraged by the new ownership. We had so much fun visiting with her. It's a "Cheers" kind of place, where everyone knows your name by the second visit !! Great location on the square in downtown McKinney, lots of charm and character. Being from a small town in East Texas, also with a "town square", just love the feel of camaraderie and a "so glad you are here" welcome.

We perused the menu but did not order. But looks promising; think it would be a great lunch place, your usual pub fare but with some interesting items.

We had great fun here; friendly staff, and comfy atmosphere. Highly recommend for a HH for anyone in the area.

This business has replaced what used to be the Londoner.  Last Sunday my husband and I took our 2 sons (9 and 12) up to McKinney to meet my parents at the Lavender Tea House (great restaurant) for breakfast.  it was closed for repairs.  We then walked over to Spoons, which is another fantastic place for breakfast, but they had a line out the door.  On the way to our next choice (The Pantry), we saw that the Londoner had turned into "Churchill's".  We asked if they had breakfast and they showed us a full breakfast menu that looked tasty so we all went in.  There was NO ONE there so we knew service would be fast.  I ordered grapefruit juice and was a little miffed when I got a glass of fake "juice" instead.  It's that stuff you buy in a bottle that has 10% juice in it and is a close approximation to juice but is more like concentraded sugar- with juice. I sent it back and ordered water. We all ordered basic stuff.  Two omlettes, Three "Churchills" (Which is eggs served over potatos with beans, tomatos and mushrooms and 2 bangers on the side) and the little one ordered kids french toast. Since my parents had been in Austria for 2 weeks they spent a long time passing out gifts to the boys and showing us photos. After 15 minutes we began wondering if they had forgotten about us, which seemed strange since we were the only ones there.  Five minutes after that they told us they were almost ready but were "waiting on the eggs".  How long does it take to cook eggs?  My dad suggested they "bring what they have" and they brought out the omlettes and french toast.
My parents felt the omlettes were watery and the mushrooms and tomatoes mealy and not fresh or flavorful.  Neither finished their meal.  My stepson liked his french toast but complained it "wasn't enough food". He was right.  the kids portion is one slice of bread cut in half!
Our Churchill's finally arrived.  What a dissapointment.  My eggs had shell in them and the mushrooms and tomatoes were NOT fresh or flavorful (notice a trend).  The beans were in a side cup and obviously from a can.  The bangers were OK.
The servers werenice, but were inattentive and clueless.
We are never coming back for breakfast.  Don't be fooled.  Eat at one of the other three restaurants I mentioned on the square.  I may try this place again for dinner...
