C&KPH is a great Irish pub!
SWMBO and I seated ourselves at a booth along the wall. I reached for a table-top reader board and promptly knocked the Salt shaker all cattywampus. Our effervescent server, Morgan, hastened to instruct me to toss some Salt over my left shoulder with my right hand and not to confuse the two. We liked her instantly!
After a quick scan of the menu, Carol chose Bangers and Mash and paired a pint of Cloud & Kelly's Irish Red Ale. C&K have this flavorful Ale crafted to their specifications by Flat Tail Brewery, just down the street. The Bangers are sourced from Mike Campbell's Pepper Tree Sausage House in Albany. (For my money, the Willamette Valley's premier Sausage maker.) I had to try their fabled Reuben Sandwich. Having met my French Fry quota for the week, I had a nice Side Salad with Dijon Mustard Dressing. The Corned Beef is house-made and the Sandwich was put together with a master's touch. The only thing that could have improved it would have been Jewish Rye with Caraway seeds. The Kraut was carefully drained and skillfully placed between the Meat and Swiss Cheese. I picked a pint of Yellow Wolf Imperial IPA from Alameda Brewhouse in Portland.
Morgan did top notch job and I had an opportunity to meet and thank Ko, the man whose kitchen wizardry created these masterpieces.
We were both delighted with our food, the service, the atmosphere and, indeed, the whole experience.
You may rest assured that Cloud & Kelly's will rank near the top on my "Reubens, Reubens who's got the Reubens" list!
Good food, good cocktails, friendly service, good location with some outdoor seating.
Food - particularly good comfort food. The irish breakfast (served all day), shepherd's pie, and fish and chips are particular favorites. Some lighter options as well, like the tuna salad nicoise (a "special" menu item that always seems to be on the menu).
Drinks - cocktails with fresh fruit purees and herbal tinctures. Not quite as good as Downward Dog next door IMHO, but still quite tasty. Better beer selection, with a focus on stouts, porters, and irish beers.
I've always liked Cloud 9 and then in turn enjoyed the newly named Cloud & Kelly's. Descent food, good prices and a great selection of beers on tap.
I've never been a big fan of their bartender who always seemed a little "too cool" or "too busy" to really give you good service. And then...
My book club (30 year old women) were on a pub crawl in Corvallis. We literally hit 9 bars that evening, and had good experiences all around. Some were better then others of course, but when some of us came to Cloud & Kelly's.
The group 4 of us simply ASKED the bartender if they carried PBR in a tall-boy can. And then he YELLED at us.
He said, "I'm tired of telling you guys this!! We DON'T HAVE PBR in a can and I'm TOO BUSY to deal with this again!"
I mean really?! Its not like we were asking to dance on the bar or anything.
I was so embarrassed, since a few people in our group are from out of town.
Its been a few weeks since the incident and wasn't going to write a review but then realized I've NEVER really liked this bartender and it was time I let people know. I don't care how busy and annoyed you are, but to YELL at people who basically just walked into your bar, and who planning are spending money there, isn't the best way to go about giving good customer service.
I know its the same owners and a lot of the same staff on both sides, but just go to Downward Dog next door and skip the asshole behind the bar at Clouds.
Server was excellent and the drink menu was a great suprise with all the different styles and all were well made. Â If you have had drinks at vault 244 in Albany, give this place a shot. Â The food is some Irish fare, but also other stuff mixed in. Â The happy hour looks great and the beers on tap are unusual local beers which is always a plus for me. Â The fish and chips were kind of greasy, but I'm the guy that thinks Carls Jr does an amazing job. Â Shoot me now right? Â I loved the intimate atmosphere and would go for drinks alone time and time again. Â Give this place a shot.
Review Source:The service was good, though distributed between two waitresses. The service was not particularly speedy, but my friend and I both enjoyed our food. We split an order of wings from the well priced Happy Hour section and an order of poutine.
I just wish that poutine was on their normal menu, and not just a daily special. Corvallis has a major lack of poutine, and that is a shame.
Had a lovely dinner with my spouse for her birthday. Â She had Ahi Tuna Salad. Â I had the Pork Brisket. Â These were both off the 'Specials' ticket, not out of the menu book. Â Both dishes were flavorful and served promptly.
Our waitress was affable and attentive but not overly so. Â Happy hour beer price was a treat, especially a Ninkasi.
The seats at the tables in our area were unpadded, they got a little uncomfortable after a bit. Â It's a college pub; open and possibly a bit noisy when highly occupied, with lofty ceilings (an old industrial building, I think) but just upscale enough and family-friendly early on a Monday evening when we were there.
Went again the other night (dog still in tow) and were graced with the same splendid server and service. We had the soup (potato and leek that night, mmm) and soda bread and some hog wings as our appetizer and they were delicious. For dinner we had their special burger "Stormin' Normandy" that was also very good. They have great prices, awesome beer, and a nice atmosphere (even when we are outside). This is becoming our favorite place to eat in Corvallis on a Sunday night and we will definitely be back.
The only downfall is that the host didn't know anything about the beers on tap. Yes, I know you have Guinness here, silly girl. It's on the menu and this is an Irish restaurant. Nevertheless, she was adorable and our server knew what was up when it came to the beer selection.
I've been here a few times, and have had good experiences. Both times I managed to catch it during happy hour, which makes it a very affordable experience: a couple of beers with a burger and fries for under $15? Yes please!
My first visit it turned out to be a nice quiet place to watch the OSU football game (the only place in town that wasn't packed, I think). The second visit they were pretty busy and service wasn't noticeably slow. It wasn't exactly Johnny-on-the-spot, but it was nothing to complain about.
It's not very Irishy for an Irish pub, but for a beer and some decent grub, Irish or not, it's pretty good.
Friendly service and good food, but as far as the beer goes, I think they have a small, overpriced selection for a pub. Â I ordered the shepherds pie, and it was delicious. Â The lamb stew portion was rich and flavorful, and the mash potatoes on top were fluffy and creamy! Â Good stuff!
Review Source:Like many restaurants in smaller college towns, the reviews for this restaurant were all over the road. I have found many times that these restaurants are very good. This restaurant, unfortunately, scored on the low end. The only reason I didn't  score it lower was the fact that the server was very nice, accommodating and sincere throughout the meal.
My wife ordered the vegetarian mac n cheese, which was listed as an entree. From a portion size, it barely qualified as a side dish. The food was luke warm and, if we found any peas (remember "vege"), we could probably count them on one hand. The shallow bowl it was served in was room temperature, not warm or hot, thereby guaranteeing a rapidly cooling food offering.
Normally, I am a very easy-going customer. I cannot remember the last time I have sent food back. I ordered the corned beef and cabbage. My meal was, like my wife's plate, served on a cool plate. The corned beef was barely luke warm, the cabbage was luke warm and the hottest item on the plate and the mashed potatoes were cold. I called our server over and explained that my meaI was luke cold at best and asked that the meal be warmed up. What I received on the second try was hot cabbage, cold potatoes and, ever so slightly, warm corned beef all still served on a room temperature plate. Â Again, guaranteeing a rapidly cooling meal.
All-in-all, a very disappointing meal.
Went here one evening with a friend and my boyfriend. It has a good atmosphere and good food. Â Like most places in Corvallis, this joint respects the grand Oregonian tradition of having a fabulous booze/beer menu. Â I went with the peach Bellini, which I had to covet most of the night to keep it away from my friend.
This isn't really an Irish joint, more like Irish meets small-town hipster. Â The Irish girl in me cringed at the menu at first. Â I mean, what is this vegetarian-friendly, hipster stuff doing mixed in with my beloved bangers and mash? Â But I forgave all when I got the lamb burger which got all over the place (this gained major points. Â As a fat kid I can only approve burgers that drip everywhere). Â We also got some quesadillas as an appetizer and the boyfriend and I lovingly bickered over who got the odd piece. Â Pretty good, to cause a ruckus between two normally agreeable folks!
Service was slow, but the place was packed so it was understandable. Our server seemed like she was really dedicated to giving personalized service, but she was just overtaxed. This place needs more servers for sure!! Â The girl apologized a couple of times for how slow things were moving for us, but we really didn't mind. Â She is a gem of a server, wish I could remember her name! Â Management should make her life easier and get one or two more folks to alleviate some of the stress.
The one thing I found awkward was the entry way. Â It is a hallway that runs to the right and is vary narrow. Â I'm a big girl and it was a little awkward meeting folks on their way out. Â Not a big deal, just a little off-putting for first impressions.
Over all, I'd definitely check this place out again!
Crisp micro brews for three bucks! Fat, sizzling burgers for five! Flaming hot buffalo wings for three! This place rocks!
That's what I wanted to say.
But all I can say is, Micro brews for three bucks!
Their burgers come out luke warm on floppy buns with tired lettuce. Their wings are pale and weak. And their portions are small.
This last time, I tried their Reuben sandwich, with high hopes for their home made corned beef. The corned beef turned out to be overcooked, dried and tough. When the sandwich was served, the smattering of sauerkraut had already soaked through the bottom piece of bread, which disintegrated in my hand.
But um... did I mention, their micro brews are just three bucks? That's a pretty good deal, and it's a decent spot to have a beer.
I *do* like that their interior is not too loud. Thank you Cloud & Kelly's for that.
p.s. Their hostess is a little confused. They have signs on all the tables saying check in with the hostess. But she won't take your name down, and says outside tables are a free-for-all: just grab one when someone leaves. There were 3-4 parties nervously eye-ing each other and the outside tables. I hope they decide to take down people's names.
I've been here twice since I wrote my last review. Once for the rainbow in the clouds night, and once for dinner.
Alright, so I came back the other night with my Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin to give this place another try. I was seated and then was waiting for my family to arrive. The girl who seemed to be a hostess/food runner brought me some water, and one of the waitresses informed me that the bartender was going to be our waiter. Once again the service was slow, He was busy at the bar and we were kind of just sitting around for a while after we'd finished eating. I feel like it's really jut a staffing issue, there were really only 3 people working on the floor. The wait wasn't as bad as the first time, but still noticeable.
As for the food, my aunt got the ahi tacos again, she said they weren't as good as the first time and that one of the pieces of fish was really tough. My uncle got the pulled pork sandwich and loved it! He's really picky about barbecue, so it's great that he liked it. I got the grilled cheese, it was good.
So I also went to the rainbow in the clouds night. That was suer fun! They played really great music, there was fun dancing, pictures, etc. I only wish they did it mor often, also it was kind of hard to get a drink.
I feel like overall this is a really cool place, with some quality foods and drinks, the servers are nice, but the service is just lacking a bit.
They have done some remolding and the place and it is so much better with these changes. It is a pub style with great food great staff muted lighting. Has a full bar, booth and table dining. My wife and I have been here a couple times now and really just love it. Cloud and Kelly's has its own personality and is not just your run of the mill pubs. You should check it out!
Review Source:I was driving into Corvallis yesterday, when my phone notified me that I'd recieved a reply from Cloud & Kelly's.
First off, I've gotta give credit to the management for following up.
Second, I ordered the wings; it's what I do. I order wings. As he'd mentioned, they come with sauce now.
Also, They've got a second TV.
Let's sum up: Customer service. Sauce included by default with wings. Imperial pints of beer. a second angle to watch my Timbers move onward?
I'll give another star for that.
I'll take the wife back in a few weeks to re-try the mash, and update this review with our findings.
I think this was our 3rd visit in 2 weeks because their new menu is so tempting with so many things we want to try.
What's good:
Bangers and Mash
Tri tip steak
Caesar salad
Tomato Chipotle Soup
Corned Beef
Corn Fritters (hushpuppies)
Whats not:
We loved the brie but didnt love the topping but they were very receptive to our constructive criticism of it.
Service:  Matt gets a huge thumbs up from  us. We always appreciate good service and he's one of the best.
Value: Â I think the prices have come down since they changed the name and menu. They're very reasonable and generous portions as well.
We'll be back! Â There's still so much more to try.
