I love this place.  It's got some of the best mussels I've ever eaten and that's a strong comment to make (see what I did there?  mussels?  strong?).

Nice little spot on the main part of town in little ole' Auburn,California.  Grab a pint, get some mussels, tackle the menu . . . it's a nice little spot.

I really appreciate the Club Car and it has definitely become my go-to for Tuesday night specials. The tacos are what you'd expect, not too large but for $1 they don't feel like a rip-off either. Last time I was there, I had a really nice waitress who did what she could to satisfy my picky friend (lighting, drinks, etc).
My two complaints are about one bartender and the margarita special. I understand that for $2, the margarita is not going to be "the best of the best," but I feel like the bartenders use the price as a justification of making weak drinks. It really puts me off the special and makes it feel like no one really enjoys it - the staff or the customers. I would rather pay for a regularly price drink that I know is actually a drink rather than be given a "deal" on a watered down "margarita." And there was just one bartender last time that did not seems very friendly at all, I imagine it was specifically because I mentioned the $2 margarita issue and he didn't appreciate it.
I keep going back, overall, and there's still a few things on their menu that I have my eye on. Super friend wait staff and the hostess is great and always remembers me.
A positive experience I had was that I went for my sister's birthday. We were informed there was going to be a 45 minute wait, so we went to another local spot to wait. We returned on the dot, but apparently it had taken less time than they thought. Rather than give our table away, however, they saved us a table large enough for the 7 of us that arrived and the 3 more who walked in later. It felt really thoughtful.

I really enjoy The Club Car.  I suppose one can argue the food takes awhile, or the service is lackluster.  But if you're "one of those", I think your perspective is skewed as far as where you'll be satisfied for your dining choice.  Maybe try a chain restaurant?I don't frequent this place for "fast food".  Typically I go on a Friday when I have some leisure time. You can order a plentiful and tasty meal for about 10 bucks...from salad to burgers, chicken sandwich to pasta...even the appetizers are filling and far surpass the normal bar food fare.  I have never had any problems with the wait staff.  The girls are sweet and quick to bring your order out, hot n fresh, when they hear the jingle from the kitchen.  I you're a snob or overly critical, this might not be the place for you.  But I you want a relaxed atmosphere in a cool old building in downtown Auburn, with tasty eats and a full bar?  This is your place.  Me?  I love it :)

Visited today for the first time with a co-worker that described it as "pretty darn good food . . . for a bar."   It was pretty quiet for lunch.  Server was quite friendly.  My co-worker noted that they are little slow, but I didn't think it took a terribly long time get our food.

Had the Bistro Burger - brie, fried onions and garlic mayo.  Pretty good.  I'll put it on my lunch list.

Had dinner here a few weeks ago with a group of friends. Our waitress spilled an entire glass of red wine all over me. Yes, she apologized but I thought she might comp something for ruining my shoes and shirt. Nope! Nothing. Plus the food was overpriced for the quality we received.

OK, what's all the negative shitck about bad service and noise...  This place exists as a pure soul of American bar and restaurant.  Want quiet, head up the street to Monkeycat.  Want better service, head over to In N' Burger.  Want great food, wonderful atmosphere and sweet waitresses, then Club Car is the place.

I have heard from a lot of people who love this place especially their taco tuesdays, it just isn't my cup of tea. I may sound old saying this, but it is a little loud for my taste, I like to talk while having a drink, and I find myself spending to much time yelling and repeating myself. This is just my presence though, I have never had a bad drink or rude service, and I really like the decor.

I love the club car.  Nice staff, I love how they remember who you are and what you drank.  Great place to grab a bite and a beer. Their wings and zuchinni fries are delish!!!!!! And you can't beat their $1 Taco $2 Corona $3 margarita night on Tuesdays!!!!!

We went here for a drink and some late night food. The bartender was really friendly and the food was good. The bar had a dj playing music and that was nice. Seems like a good hangout. Can't wait to go and try the full menu.

Great food, good beer and friendly staff every time I am here. Try the ginger martini. There signature burger is $5 during happy hour. Great bartenders. You should see this place during the cruise nights, which are coming up starting May 11, 2012.

Yummy curry chicken sandwich that comes in a pita.  The salad is fresh and tasty.  Really good quality food and the house potato chips are very good as well.

Cool vibe in this place we recently stopped in based upon a recommendation from a friend. Laid back with a lounge feel. We dropped in on a Monday and it was perfect for us. Not too busy or loud. The street style tacos came recommended too but they were too greasy for us and topped with a creamy sauce of some kind. Not bad tasting, just on the heavy side for bar food.

Tonight was our third visit to the Club Car.  Third visit is a clue.  We like this place.  Wednesday night are great for low key music and a nice dinner.

There was one small hiccup, our second round drinks took too long to be served.  We asked the waitress, and she told us the bartender was backed up.  Hmm, they need to fix this one.

All in all, a pleasant evening out for a reasonable price.  Nice music, good time....

We went there for their Tuesday night special happy hour.  Coronas are $1-$2 each and while the margaritas are $2 each, they are small, super cheap tequila...we didn't have any margaritas because we were sitting right at the bar and could tell they weren't worth even the $2.00.

First, I ordered a french dip sandwich and they were out.  Not that big a deal; so I reordered a mushroom swiss cheese burger.  By then my hubby already had his food and I still didn't.  I was disappointed, but ordered a glass of wine to tide me over, lol.  When they brought me "my burger" shortly after, it was still not what I ordered.

Justine, who I think was managing the place that night apologized and finally my burger and fried zucchini arrived.  By then, hubby was almost done with his dinner.
The zucchini fries I had were tasty, but personally I felt like the zucchini should be cut a little larger and less batter.  The burger was ok, but a little over seasoned with garlic powder (or garlic salt), plus it was tough meat.

Service was attentive and at last when we were done and had our bill we were informed that my dinner had been removed from the bill because they had made too many mistakes.

We hadn't been aggressive or anything like that; they just did the right thing without being asked.

It is very crowded on Tues. nights and a lively scene but I am not sure we will go back.

I gave them a three solely because of Justine's service and understanding of what customer service truly should be; rectifying the problem without the customer having to have a hissy fit, lol.

    .:.:.:.  Owner/Manager   :.:.:.   PLEASE READ

You guys do a great job.  If I do make it out in Auburn, I'll go to the Club Car for the friendly faces and the ambiance.

But please - Do something about the chubby asshole behind the bar.  Within his drunken stupor, he was able to ruin my evening as well as the credibility of Club Car.  There was only one open seat at the bar, which was next to him, so I took it, and I guess it was his night off.  Reaching over the bar grabbing glasses to poor shots then forcing them onto me, insisting that he runs the place, and insulting me with language that he clearly doesn't understand were just a few things that we shared in about 15 minutes.

I had to hunt down my server, pay my bill, and get away from your employee who refers to himself as the "assassin".  Very off putting.  Please react accordingly.

How could I not give this place five stars? Great, delicious food in perfect portions, not too much but not too skimpy. Our waitress was attentive and informative about the menu. Service was very fast, I was impressed by that. For the ambience, food, and service- 5's all around- well done club car.

Best place to hang out in Auburn, at night. Impressive menu and happy hour. Blue Cheese Bueger - WOW.  Open mike on thurs is super fun. Cute bartenders and their hot wings are the best in Auburn. Taco Tuesday is alaways a fun time. . .  .$1 pork or fish tacos and $2 Coronas!
Their private upstairs lofty is perfect for a private party, too.

Three stars because all the times I've been here before, it was a great experience but I was there to drink, not to eat. If I was solely basing it off of the food, I would give them just 1 star.

Great ambiance. I love their dim lighting and that's partly why I chose this restaurant to eat at. I had been here before but not just to eat. In my opinion, they should just continue to be a bar/club and stay out of the restaurant business. My date and I had been trying to get together for 5 months but couldn't because of conflicting schedules. We wanted to get out of town and away from the traffic, so we decided to go up to Auburn and try out one of their restaurants. Monkey Cat only had one item on the menu that attracted me (the Filet Mignon) but that wasn't enough to earn my business. The ambiance drew me in at Club Car and I noticed they also had Filet Mignon. Now, I don't mind paying market price for good food. It was $24 for the Filet Mignon which came with potatoes and some veggies. Blahhh! It was not good at all!! Even though it was my birthday, I paid for my date and I to eat. My waitress was sure to mention that they don't do anything special for Birthdays. I wasn't really looking for anything except a good meal and a great time with my girl. I ordered their Coconut Shrimp for $10.95 It was okay...it seemed like it had been cooked previously and then reheated, although I couldn't tell for sure. It just didn't taste right. Both of us ended up ordering the Bacon-Wrapped Filet Mignon. The steak was mediocre. It was cooked properly. It just didn't taste good! My potatoes tasted like they came out of a box and I didn't even touch the veggies. I'm 99% sure they used frozen vegetables and put them in the microwave. All in all, our dinner ended up costing me $70. It was the worst way to spend (just under) a C-Note. Especially after spending a fortune at the Galleria for Christmas gifts.

If you're coming here to hear a band and enjoy a drink, this is the place to be in Auburn! Beware of the food unless you're sticking to Cheese Sticks or other various finger foods.

Thank you Club Car!  My Husband's 60th Surprise birthday was such a success!!   .   The entire wait staff was in on it and didn't give out a clue.  He was so surprised!  The upstairs room was perfect.

Thank you for assisting me earlier that day in setting up my video equipment.  It certainly made everything much smoother that evening.

Food was great, all the waitresses, bartenders were wonderful and very accomodating.

    We Love the Club Car!!!!!!!!

Ambiance of the club is cool! Dark, New York kind of club...
Food is pretty decent and happy hour is awesome. If possible, don't get the African American woman for a waitress, she chews gums constantly while she is talking to you and and taking your order. REALLY? The waitress and waiters need to look around more- we really shouldn't have to track them down for service.

Love the ambiance here! Cool, cozy, romantic! The food is good! Not mind blowing amazing but solid. This is a nice place to go on a date or with friends. Definitely not a place for kids though. Service is good. What I really Iike about this place is the nice long bar top, plenty of room at the bar to sit too!

I'll put my disclaimer upfront.  This review is biased.  It's hard NOT to like a place when 25 of your closest friends surprise you here with a birthday party in the loft upstairs.  That is a pretty amazing experience in and of itself.  The staff at Club Car did a really great job at handling the large party.  The food came out fast and they made sure everyone who wanted another drink was refilled.  They even named a drink after me for the night.   Not exactly an epic Tom Collins name but fun none the less.  Other things I liked about Club Car was that it was a happening place for a Wednesday night.   There was a band and the rest of the restaurant was surprisingly full.

The food was pretty good.  I got the Soy Salmon that was slightly above average and many other people partook in their famous zucchini fries with burgers.

All in all, it was a great place to celebrate.  And it surprised me that the sleepy little town of Auburn could be that alive during the week.

One of the main things that attracts me to Club Car is the live music nights. It is so nice to see a platform for the local talent, who tend to be very good or very bad :)

Club Car tends to be very crowded on those nights (I've never gone another time); it reminds me of some small, dark, sultry jazz club, with the lights down low, small table all squished together- very intimate settings. Servers are very friendly and funny, but it can be hard to get their attention. It's a pretty noisy place, even when the music hasn't started yet.

Prices are decent- my tab was $60 for three- but the portions left me a bit unsatisfied. However, the food is certainly delectable. I haven't quite figured out HOW much I like the restaurant, so i'll be returning soon & updating accordingly.

I will never go back to this place -- EVER!!

This place very rarely gets a lot of business and when it does the staff freak out and turn into VERY rude and incompetent people. I walked in with a few minutes to kill before a friend arrived and took one of the last seats at the bar.

I order a pint of Stella and she just stares at me. She then asks for ID and stands there while I procure it. I've NEVER had a bartender not pull a drink while rummaging for an ID. Half the time I don't even get carded. Not that big of a deal, but enough to slightly irritate.

So she returns with my beer and as she's getting my change I realize she poured it over half full of foam -- literally. There's a line on glasses that give you the pint mark and then the rest is for foam, there was MAYBE 10oz in there if i was lucky. I didn't want to be a prat so I asked if she'd take the foam off (thinking she'd realize her mistake without me calling her on it) She looked at me like i slapped a baby seal. She then proceeded to go on this huffy tirade about scooping out the foam, turning the o2 down on the keg, doing it again... this went on for about 4 minutes. All to give it back to me half full again. NO joke. She then walked to the end of the bar where she told the other bartenders what had just gone on... I couldn't believe a grown woman would seriously throw a fit about their own ineptitude.

I'll never go back, if a bartender can't even pour a beer and keep up with 20 patrons... stay far away.

I've been in and around this place for years and have never really been that big of a fan until now. Why the change in heart? One word: "SPECIALS!"

They are working it hard with "hard times happy hour" and a couple daily specials. The best deal being $1 tacos and $2 margaritas or coronas on Tuesdays. Yes, one dollar tacos and two dollar margs, NOT a typo. The tacos for this are a bit small, but really tasty and really cheap at... yes... ONE DOLLAR each. They're simple but fresh and just what you'd want in a dollar taco.

Their happy hour is more than decent  with $5 burger&fries, wings, grilled cheese or two pork tacos. The happy hour drink specials are on selected $3.50 and $5 drinks.

Here's the low-down on the schedule the best that I could tell:
    Mondays: half off entrees
Tuesdays: $1 tacos and $2 margs and coronas
Sun-Tues from 3pm - close: happy hour specials
Wed-Sat from 3pm-6pm: happy hour specials

Generally speaking, I wouldn't give four stars. Not enough tables. The servers are nice and give it an effort, but aren't exactly top-notch. The Club Car itself is a bit schizophrenic in that it's marketing to everyone and no one at the same time with open mic night and bands. Nor does it know if it wants to be a local music bar or fancy restaurant because while it tries to do both, it doesn't quite do either fully. However, despite all of that, the specials make me a much happier diner, so I'm willing to give an extra star because I left happy. I mean two of us dined, had drinks and an overall very pleasant evening and still had a bill under $20 on Tuesday. Specials rock!

Ummmm - I had lunch here the other day - a BlueBurger with skinny fries - - i think it was the best burger I've had in a very long time.  The atmosphere is great - - a very cool retro-nightclub that's nice enough to lunch at.  I'm glad to see them open for lunch and I can't wait to get over there for dinner & some live music.  Three of us had lunch and a bottle of decent wine for 58 including tip.  Prices are very decent.

Likely the BEST lunch in all of Auburn, Ca., and I am a foodie. True! My biggest disappointment when I go to Club Car for lunch, about once a week, is that more people aren't there dining. The food is unbelievable and at a very good value -- $9 - $12. Please try their Sausage Sandwich (Chiabata bread, red pepper aoli, deep fried artichokes, and italian sausage). Unfrigenbelievable! They do a similar sandwich but with chicken, not sausage, that rates a 9 to their sausage sandwich which is a 10. Very, very very good. OR, any of their salads are excellent, hearty, and a great value. Kelly, waitress, bartender, and overall wonderfully lady, is just the greatest. ALWAYS smiling, friendly, and eager to serve. I love happy people and she is one happy person.

Negative, they are a bit slow in getting the food out of the kitchen. Quality takes time so be sure to add 30 minutes to your lunch day and you will be one happy diner.

Despite the mixed reviews I read, I decided to take my husband here for his birthday/Valentine's Day dinner.  I'll start with the positives:  the atmosphere is really fun and they have a great stage area where an excellent jazz band was playing.  The servers and hostess seemed very pleasant and nice.... and unfortunately, that's about it for the positives.
Now for the negatives:  As my husband and I walked into the establishment we were immediately inundated with a rotten egg smell.  Thankfully, the smell went away (or we just got used to it) after awhile. We ordered an appetizer of fried calamari that was never received.  Our food was dreadful.  The steaks were bland and overcooked.  The garlic mashed potatoes were cold.  The broccoli was undercooked and cold.  After a horrible meal, we hoped the dessert was better.... NOT!  I ordered the New York cheesecake.  For the price it was really small and the flavor was disgusting.  It was also very chewy and had a very strange consistency.
The two stars given are really for the atmosphere and for the great band that was playing... What a waste!

It's ok.  but it can be much better.  As soon as all the servers start taking there jobs a little more serious, they might get repeat business.

    New Review:

The Club Car has earned its place as an institution in uptown Auburn.  Food is good and the atmosphere is pure 'bar'.  Sometimes the service is slow, but haven't had a bad wait for several years.  From the huge Olympia Beer sign to the stage sound baffles, to the neon men's bathroom extravaganza, the place is quite cool.  We can walk here from our house, so we are in here at least once a month.  Oh, and the music is always entertaining if not totally awesome.

Go there for a good cocktail, a great burger or for Tacos and Margaritas on Taco Tuesday.   Sunday has a great happy hour too.  They also have some pretty awesome wines available.  My favorite is the Rombauer Cabernet.

A little too trendy and Peckerhead & others from APD come here a lot to hang out and try to get laid.

Too expensive, but very comfortable seating, if you get there before the few tables are taken.

Some nights they do lots of lame things like put on skits, but if you're into that sort of campy stuff, then you'll enjoy it ...

Pretty much a waste of money and your time, unless you're meeting with local pols, business people, etc. Once the drunks get really drunk, they'll likely to head to 160, or Pistol Petes (cheaper well drinks and cheaper beer brands).

Previous ownership ran it under the name of Smoke Shop and the same couple that started Club Car, started Monkey Cat Restaurant down the street.

Unfortunately, the Club Car has not been able to maintain itself in the top echelon of restaurants,  but instead clings precariously to its role as the premier Auburn nite spot.

By general consensus of myself and other locals, the food quality has declined since one year ago, when I gave it a five star review.  I've been back once since New Years' Eve 2006, for lunch...it was an OK burger and fries.... but nothing to write home about. like the Kobe burger at the Auburn Ale House.........now it looks like the Club Car has some serious competition!!!

Personally, I like the Club Car. It's where I can go to unwind after we put the Sentinel to press. When the 'Slick Chicks' are playing (every other Tuesday night) is usually when you'll find me here. I agree there are a lot of local political folks who frequent the Club Car, but not as many as there once were. The new place for that crowd seems to be the Bootleggers Tavern and Grill in Old Town. In one afternoon, I ran into two county supervisors and a city council member. Still though, you should check out the Club Car. I'm partial to their Asian Chicken Salad.
