My history with Club Rush has been a short one, but a history with major impact. Â As a white American, I experienced the royal treatment while my black friends were forced to stay outside. Â The first time this happened I was able to get them in after arguing with the owner and ultimately pulling the "I'm in VIP tonight" card. Â He reluctantly let them in. Â The next week I had a new group of black friends with me. Â I did warn them that there may be an issue because the club seemed to be slightly racist, but that I would argue with the owner again. Â Unfortunately, this time, it did not work. Â My friends were humiliated in front of a line of people and later they were physically forced from the front of the club to the curb. Â I'm an understanding person and I can understand having set rules to ensure the safety of the people who come into a club, but when you let a white person walk in with baggy shorts but stop a black person wearing the exact same shorts...there is an issue that needs to be addressed.
On a different note, the DJ's usually don't play a great selection of music. Â It's not horrible. Â I mean, alcohol and driving music is the equation for a good time. Â Still, I wish that their selection in music was more current and relevant. Â I wish I could say something else to balance this review out but the racism alone is enough to warrant a 1 star review.
Went to Club Rush my first time on New Year's Eve. Â I guess we were way early for the party by getting there at 10:30 because we had no problem getting in and getting drinks right away. Â By 11:30 the place was completely packed to the gills and there was a huge line outside. Â I definitely felt overdressed in my jeans and tank top, but the DJ was really rockin' the place and the drinks were being poured nice and heavy.
If you like to people watch and can handle the loud music then this is the place to be. Â Once it got crowded it was definitely harder to move around, but the place is set up pretty well with a large dance floor downstairs and multiple bars both downstairs and upstairs. Â The third floor is an entirely separate bar, much more "bar-like" than the club.
Overall we had a pretty good time, but at 27 I felt both too old AND too young. Â It was the oddest mix of older people who still thought they were in their early 20s, and way younger people who didn't look a day over 16.
