To be fair, 3.5 stars, just not quite up to 4 as there are some detractors. First off, the place needs a good wash. The menus are grubby! No kidding! The ones at my seat had a patina of sweat and grease-finger covering them that reminded me of the way my grandkid's high-chair feels after he finishes a banana.
Okay, it's been around a long time, granted, but the whole place feels like it needs the carpet stripped out and everything hosed off with a pressure washer. Â Also, the prison dining table arrangement could use an update. Yeah, I know the leagues like to go there and the long tables work for that, but ordinary diners and drinkers dig separate tables so they can talk.
But other than that, the waitstaff was friendly, service quick, and the food was great. What did I have? Chicken wings. Yeah, I can't seem to get enough of them. But this summer heat just brings on a crazy craving for hot wings and cold beer. And these wings are great. Really good sauce (order just the regular hot wing sauce, it's maybe a tiny bit on the mild side for my tastes, but the flavor is just outstanding) And they will bring you a side of the hotter sauce if you want. I tried a little of the XX sauce and used it to amp up the heat just a tad, but really, for flavor, stick with the standard hot wing sauce. But now comes the GREAT part. Their blue cheese dressing that they serve with the wings and celery? It is fantastic. Just fantastic. No other way to say it. It is jam-packed with chunks of blue cheese and a dip of wing or celery into it makes for a stunningly good bite of bar food. These wings were better than the Yardhouse, Bex, much better than Buffalo Wild Wings, and actually have a better sauce than my go-to joint the Wingstop. A dozen wings and two bottles of Bud netted me a $20 tab before tip, so the place ain't the cheapest in town to be certain, but I do not mind paying a premium when I can get a knockout plate of wings with Blue Cheese dressing like that brought to me by a friendly and cheerful waitress. I will be back. But hose that place out, would ya?
One more thing. I read a review on here where somebody complained about the tv placement? There are only four walls in the joint. It is a big hall. The tvs are on the wall! Go find a seat in front of the game you want to watch and get a chair facing the tv. There must be 30 tvs scattered around the joint. If you want a closeup view, go sit at one of the tables by the wall.
My wife and I use to go at least once sometimes twice a week, but the prices have gone up so we don't go as often. The wings and fries are the best I've had. The beer is served perfectly cold and the specialty drinks are done nicely. Yes the place looks run down inside  but I don't usually choose a place to eat by how home and garden decorates the place. There are times when the place is really packed to the point there is no where to park or sit. When they have special events they do have security there checking ID just to get in. A couple of the waitresses know us by now where they know what we're drinking and what we order. However, they do have some girls that look under 21 ( I call them ride-along waitresses because they just follow the mature waitresses around and give refills of water and soda). A few of the ride-along waitresses are annoying and will keep coming by what seems like every 3 mins asking if we need anything, one time I got extremely annoyed and talked crap back to one of the ride-along waitresses asking if I could help them instead, they finally left my wife and I alone. Other then that friendly environment and good food.
Review Source:Tried again cause they are so close to me... bad sign when you walk in and they ask how did you get in here... order a drink and told we are closed as another customer got a large beer... how do you become a regular since this was at 1230... food is good... wish the bartenders made it welcoming to come in and try it... I'm done!
Review Source:This place looks huge on the outside, and that's because it is. It has tons of tables lined up cafeteria style, dingy lighting provided by the warm glow of a dozen or so flat screens which are slowly gentrifying the outdated big box screens of yesteryear, the kind of place you expect stale cigarrette smoke, and old sports die hards to come and watch a sporting event while drinking modertly priced beer and eating on super greasy, generous, staple bar foods such as burgers, dogs, wings and things. Last time came I had what i BELIEVE is called the juliet burger, perhaps? I took a picture.
I have been a happy camper as far as quantaty satiation, but quality and ambiance could sure be a little classier, but some, might just enjoy it this way. From the super pregenant waitress who brought me my fries, to the plastic tables adorned with offensivly loud adverts for domestic beer, this place where I come when I want to hide and stuff my face.
Coach's is one of those places that I would still come up to the Antelope Valley for when I leave Palmdale. I will drive from anywhere in Southern California for their wings. Â Best wings i have ever eaten in my life, no contest. Â I always get my wings in straight sauce (no butter so they are a little bit spicier) and extra crispy. Â So freakin good. Â They also have the best blue cheese dressing in the world. Â I am not sure how they have managed to serve this and no place else I have ever been to even comes close. And their jalepeno poppers are the best, mozzarella sticks are good and their burgers are awesome. Â Also their beers are a little pricey, $4.99 for a mug but the mugs are worth it, order the Newcastle on tap.
Review Source:Its the Antelope Valley and the selection for sports bars isn't huge... but as sports bars go - this one isn't bad. Â The food menu is expansive and VERY reasonably priced. Â Their lunch specials are a pretty good deal. Â My husband likes the wings. Â I enjoy the chicken tenders - which are nothing close to healthy, but oh so crispy and delicious. Â And its a good spot for game watching. Â This was a great place to stop in after softball games because the long tables are nice for accommodating a big group. Â I have no complaints about service... I've never felt pressured every five minutes to buy food, nor ignored and left without refills. Â If you are looking for a good place to watch a game (or three different ones) - check out Coaches. Â Its centrally located, pretty comfortable, and the food and beer selection is good.
Review Source:I've been going to this spot more than usual lately and my experiences vary which is why it's getting the 3 instead of 4. Â The servers here are very friendly and are definetely not hard to look at. Â Although on one occasion some of my buds and I went to go have some wings and beer after work and two of my buds left the table to hit the head (bathroom). Â Before their return our server asked us if they had walked out (there were still 6 of us at the table including kids). Â At this point I was turned off and unfortunately her tip went from very HIGH to average. Â My wifes a server so I understand although you should be able to "judge" your table by the company they are keeping.
Review Source:I had a nice long review to write about how I really detest this place for several reasons ( I.e their rude, pushy, usually not all that clean) but seeing As to how Ryan f. Took the words right out of my mouth read his review it really says it all. Their wings are decent at best and if you don't order within 5 min they will be back every minute bothering you to order even if you tell them your waiting for others. They are not just pushy but they don't even tell you in a nice manner... This is all too bad too cause I love me some wings!
Review Source:Quite frankly I just don't get it. Â This place has a loyal fan base and am happy that they are doing well. Â I just think that people who go there buy into the local hype without actually analyzing what they are getting at that establishment.
Let's start off with the TVs. Â Yes, there are a lot of them but they are positioned in odd places and you have to crane your neck to look at them or twist around to see the ones on the other side of the building. Â Speaking of the building, it seems rather rundown and the idea of the long tables serve only to stuff people into the place like cattle. Â The last thing I want when eating wings is to be rubbing elbows with a biker who has beer sweats. Â What helped us the last time we went in (and I don't just mean the most recent time but also "the last time" as in I will not be going there ever again) was we added 4 to the actual number in our party. Â Gave us some much needed room!
Next is the service. Â My friends and I went there several times for Monday night football. Â Understandably, they have a rule where every person needs to buy something at such an amount. Â No prob. It became a problem for us when the waitress kept harassing us every 3 minutes to buy food when we kept explaining to her that we were gonna wait until the rest of our party got there. Â It was really annoying. Â It wasn't until I threatened to leave and not buy anything but the beer I had already gotten that she lessened up and let us begin to enjoy the game. Â After we did order and she brought us our food, she was seldom seen again to offer refills or new beers or another round of appetizers which is unfortunate since we wanted to buy those things so that they would give us a ticket to be in the raffle they were having.
Lastly is the famous wings (full disclosure: I have only eaten wings there and can not speak to the quality of the other food items on the menu.) They are good. However, I can simply not agree with the members of the Church of Coaches when they say they are the best wings in town. Â They are just good and in no way warrant the hype.
Long story short: Pass up this dump and get better (or at least as good) wings somewhere else that has decent service and comfy surroundings.
St. Patty's Day earlier this year (2010)...... Way to many people, no ID checks, no security!!! Place looks like a dive! The only good thing were the drinks/beer list. If this is Lancaster's premier sports bar......... help is needed! If you wanna safe place to celebrate the holiday, go some where else!
Review Source:We go to Coach's in Rosamond about once a week and occasionally also get take-out. Â They are a quirky, AV bar but they are the best at it. The set up is long tables - cafeteria style. Â You never know who you will be sitting next to. Â If it's quiet, you might have a table to yourself. If it's busy, you'll be squished next to someone you've never met. But, the people are always friendly and no one seems to mind being squished.
The waitresses are awesome and always go the extra mile to make sure everyone gets what the want. Â Some nights the kitchen can be extremely slow but that's usually not the case. They have the best wings I've had in this part of the country, great burgers and sandwiches and good tacos. Â They have good food and beer specials so make sure to check them out because it can save you a lot of money.
The owner is very friendly and quite the character. If you like sports, beer or betting you can talk to him all night.
The crowd is a mix of locals from Rosamond, people visiting the race track and people working at Edwards Air Force base so it's quite ecclectic. Â Families are welcome but their kids menu is pretty scant. We usually just order off the adult menu and split it among the kids in the group we meet up with.
I cant say Coaches is the best bar in AV.. (because its the only bar I ever been to in this area)... But it is the best bar I have ever been to!!! The waitresses are very friendly with a smile always on their face. The manager/ owner is no exception, very friendly and personable as well.
One day my friend and I decided to stop in, we were greeted kindly. Ordered were received with not much waiting. And though the food is priced really good... We received much more than what we paid for... Along with are meals we were offered to sample drinks, tacos, and wings. I have to say the Fish taco & Wings are the best I have ever tasted anywhere by far!!!!!
UPDATE!
My original review said that they needed to replace their old TV's and they have now done it. Â Coaches is probably the only legit sports bar in Lancaster and it's a pretty good one.
They have the basics of a sports bar down and have been around since about 1989...I use to live across the street as a kid when they were building it.
A step up from the average AV bar. Â Long tables are kinda quirky for groups but the place reminds me of a medieval feasting area. Â Arrgg, mead all around! Â Standard beers on tap, usually great service and food. Â Bonus--usually they have a working pinball game in the back. Â Usually working that is ;) Â TVs abound and local sport hero's jerseys are on the wall. Â Get in there and have a burger and a beer.
Review Source:One of the best sports bars in Lancaster.
Multiple big screen TV's, great food, very attractive waitresses, well stocked bar and an arcade area for the kids.
They are known for the wings and they never disappoint! These meaty, buffalo wings may make you break a sweat. Â Sometimes I just pick up 2 dozen of these baby's and go home and stuff my face. Â No need for table manners like when you're out in public. Â They have all the stuff a great sports bar should have and then some. The menu is almost as great to look at as the food that's on it tastes. The burgers are to die for, a huge beer selection including microbrews and drafts, and they serve awesome strong mixed drinks.
The staff is friendly, the place is clean- you can see the cooks at work - and the owners are super nice.
