When: Friday night
With: the boyfriend and his work friends
We had: mainly beers, a few rum'n'cokes, some tequila shots, and their 'new' spinach-and-artichoke dip platter.
I was nervous about ordering drinks at the bar, because so many of the reviews mention one/more unfriendly barstaff*. Thankfully, I was served by a friendly brunette who made an EXCELLENT Bacardi'n'coke, and patiently waited for us to decide on our fifth/sixth round of drinks when we were too drunk to be coherent...
The spinach/artichoke dip platter wasn't anything to write home about (this is a bar serving bar food afterall), but it was fairly edible considering it contained real vegetables!
The ambiance of this place is a little strange: filled with lots of work people from the big EMC buildings down the road, slightly too well-lit for a bar, unusual series of 'popular' hits playing over the speakers, and a nice selection of 'art' across the walls.
It's not that this was a bad place to grab some after-work drinks, but everything was a bit meh.
*Asking around, I was pointed in the direction of the "unfriendly" bartender -- she's blond, wears glasses, and I saw many Cole's patrons leaving the bar looking disappointed (apparently she likes to refuse people's requests) after an interaction with her. I'm almost tempted to come back, just to experience her infamous unfriendliness for myself.
Cole's is right near my parent's house and we go all the time. It's a great place to get a beer and a burger. They also have really good pizza, steak and cheese and pasta dishes. In the summer they have an outdoor deck and bocce ball court and it's always a good time. Waitstaff and bartenders are all really friendly - they know my parents by name and drink order! The only downside is that their seafood isn't very good.
Review Source:The food is HORRENDOUSLY HORRIBLE...The bartenders are ALL rude. The drinks are watered down. The place all around dirty.( I think I even saw a cockroach on the end of the bar).Puke and poop on bathroom floor. A real dive!!!! You have been warned!! Go at your own risk!! Â OHHH...I forgot ,if you use a credit card be sure to check your statement. They think you forget how much you spend.
Review Source:Cole's is OK. If you're in the mood for an inexpensive pub-type dinner and a cheap beer, it will suit you just fine. But it isn't my favorite.
Pros: Great outdoor patio with bocce and lawn games. Perfect for summer. Decent fries and burgers, heavily salted but passable entrees. Affordable price point. Polite waitresses.
Cons: Menu doesn't have a ton of diversity, not many healthier options. Indoor decor is a bit tacky. Good friends have had bad experiences with service from the owners. The beer selection is mediocre---Sam Lager and a Wachusett brew are the best available. Everything else is domestic soda.
I've been here each of my three visits to the area. It's a typical bar with nothing out of the ordinary food. Burgers and cheesesteaks are solid, nachos are covered in tons of cheeze, and the biggest peice of cod with the fish and chips. They have handful of beers on tap including Blue Moon and Sam Adams. If you are one of the many out here on business and want to try a very, very low key local spot, head over.
Review Source:If you're looking for a great bar with a fun vibe and excellent food, look no further. Â I come here occasionally for drinks and dinner with friends, and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. Â This is a well run establishment that caters to it's patrons by providing a relaxed and fun environment while weeding out the trouble makers. Â Definitely worth the trip!
Review Source:We come here occasionally for dinner, the food is typical pub food with burgers and fries, wraps, fish and chips etc,. The waitresses and bartenders are friendly and pretty attentive, despite the crowds coming from EMC and the business park right up the street.
As far as coming here for drinks, it can get VERY crowded on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. I prefer going here in the spring or summer, when they have seating on the huge deck outside. They have volleyball and horseshoes, very casual but really fun.
They have bands play downstairs sometimes, I've only been one time. There is a separate bar down there and a small stage (i think?).
Met up with my girlies here Friday night for cocktails after work...
You can't beat $6.66 Goose and Cran's (20 ouncers!!) and $4.44 Stoli Blueberi Kamikaze shots... gotta love the 'burbs!!
I also had a grilled chicken sandwich smothered in BBQ sauce and cheddar. It was yummy... super friendly staff also!!
The meanest bartender I've ever encountered was at Cole's Tavern. Â My husband's band played here and when I went up to go order drinks for them during their set, she refused. Â And when I tried to talk to the band about it in between songs, she threw me out of the place! Â It was unbelievable. Â
I give it an additional star only because the rest of the people working there were really nice and they apologized for her, but apparently she's the owner's wife so there was nothing anyone could do about it. Â It was a really bizarre situation.
The food was average -- just average. Â I don't live near there so I probably wouldn't go back and m husband isn't too eager to play another gig there!
