Colonial Tavern

G. D. Colonial.  

This place is part of the "other Newport", the Newport not represented by the pastel-clad "NEWPORT" t-shirt wearers, the salmon-pants & loafers-no-socks crowd, or black shirt product-in-my-hair bros and I'm-a-dumb-cunt sis's.

What an odd place.  Kind of great, though.  They used to have Metal Thursdays, where they played Maiden and Dio and shit like that.  It seems like every other time I've been there, all is heard is the sound of low volume non-HD TV tuned to random channel and the banter of townie-woes.  

The drinks are cheap and strong as shit.  At times it can be filled with all kinds of fun characters, and at times it's 2 or 3 near-mutes in a staring contest with their pint glass and/or pack of Mustangs on the bar.  But predicting when these crowds will be there is nearly impossible.  

However, it is always a mandatory stop when you've gone to where the lights DON'T shine so bright on Newport's Broadway.

Local Newport inhabitants hang out here.  This would be the place to go to get away from all the tourists.  We wish they still had the karaoke here.  We came to experience the local karaoke scene .. and alas it is no longer on the game card.
