We tried Colony Grill a few weeks after it opened and thought it was pretty good!  We went in knowing that they only serve pizza, so we weren't disappointed on that point, but it is pretty misleading to call it a "grill" now that other reviewers bring it up.

Anyhow, the interior looks great, smells nice and new (love that!), and we thought the pizza was very good (even though it isn't our favorite 'type' of pizza: super thin, no crust - but this we also knew ahead of time).  We went at lunch when it was pretty quiet inside so it was nice.  We plan to go back sometime at night so hopefully it's just as good!

The only real complaint I have is that they use canned mushrooms - c'mon guys, stock some fresh ones! :)

I love this thin crust pizza. It is my all-time favorite. People usually love it or hate it.

I love the bar and outdoor seating. I didn't order food because I saw the menu was limited to pizza only. Not sure if this is going to change anytime soon or if this is only for the outdoor menu but I was hoping for bar food options.

I had no experience with the other locations, so my expectations were shaped only by the restaurant's name and decor. The Colony Grill looks like a beautiful Irish pub - the kind of place you expect to spend a long time chatting over Guinness and a burger.

    1) You can't chat because the acoustics are terrible.

    2) They pour a Guinness so it's all foam.

    3) You can't have a burger because pizza is the ONLY item on the menu.

Putting expectations aside, the gluten free pizza was quite good - GF crust usually falls apart, but this crust was actually better than the wheat crust. Let me rephrase that; the GF crust was good, and the standard crust was not as good as the frozen pizzas I buy at Target.

I recommend this place for customers with wheat allergies or celiac - the bar even has GF beer. Everyone else can find better pizza elsewhere.

For months, I was very excited to see that Colony was opening in Milford.  I went there this past weekend.  The place was very crowed with  people on the outside patio, and, the inside seating area.

The pizza was below average.  All they serve is the 12" pizza, paper thin, no crust, and, I thought pricey.  The crust was like cardboard, with no taste.   I had better frozen pizza then what they offer here.

The service was very good, with the waitress checking frequently to see if you needed anything else. That was the only positive experience.

Last, you need to go to Rosetta Stone to see if they offer a lip reading course.  The noise level is unbelievable, and, you simply can't hear anything.  They should try putting in noise resisters that other restaurants use.

Overall, a very bad experience, bad food, and a very loud place.

We wanted to try Colony Grill as soon as it opened, but thought it would be wise to give them time to get their operation running smoothly.  We were anxious to see the local hardware store remains given new life in this restaurant.

After a day of catching up after returning from a short vacation, we decided today was the day.  The physical restaurant is nice with high ceilings and a great looking bar. The alfresco dining was nice. However with nothing to absorb sounds, the restaurant is very noisy.

Now the food.  My husband and I were never so disappointed in a pizza. Pizzas are individual 9 inch  pies. My husband ordered the traditional mozzarella, and I ordered a bacon and onion pie.  The pies were absolutely tasteless. Unbelievably bland. The sauce was flat, and the bacon and onion added nothing to the pizza.  They definitely need to work on their sauce.  They have lots of toppings to enhance the pizzas, but a pizza should be good before any toppings are added.  These pizzas were not.  There was no tomato flavor, no salt, no garlic, no nothing!  I have never, ever left pizza.  I will always bring home any leftovers.  Today I did not; I left half a pizza uneaten. I do not understand the four star reviews.

I am sorry, but we will not be back.  The New Haven pizzerias have nothing to worry about.  Colony Grill cannot compete. I am sorry to be so harsh, but we were so disappointed.

if I could have giving it zero starts I would have-  if you want Colony Grill Pizza head south to Stamford- the pizza in Milford is HORRID !!  do not bother.
With so many good pizza spots here ( Poppas, Seabreeze, Woodmont to name a few) skip this place-  crust was tasteless like toiletpaper, sauce ? uuugg! terrible I got the hot oil ( my favorite in Stamford) I think they used motor oil

    What happened???

My first visit was excellent. The decor is attractive for an obviously dressed up sports bar. As it is all hard surfaces it will always be too noisy. The service was welcoming and attentive. The pizza was delicious. Hot oil & pepperoni, not nearly as greasy as it sounds. Flavorful and the thin crisp crust held up under the pressure. Sauce & cheese were excellent. We also enjoyed a sausage pizza that was very tasty.

Ran back as soon as possible to enjoy al fresco dining. Pizza was completely different; as though someone had snuck into the kitchen to destroy the business. Again, hot oil but way too much. Pizza was swimming in oil and it affected the crust. The meatballs were strictly balls of meat, no flavor, and overcooked to the point of looking burnt and tasting dry.

Will the third time be the charm? I will give it one more chance because everyone has  a bad day and I live within walking distance and most important, the first experience was excellent.

From the moment we walked in we knew we were going to find the experience challenging.  It was as if we entered an arena concert: deafening!  The hostess was very pleasant and led us right to our table.  We asked for seating for eight, and it was way too tight.  We should have been offered a table, I'm chalking that up to inexperience.

We ordered five pizzas, which proved to be enough for our group.  We found the toppings sparse and strange.  The full strips of bacon were tricky to eat without first slathering our chin with them.  The greasy wet top of the pizza slid right off if I didn't hold it on with my fingertip.  Frankly, it's pizza, I accept that it is greasy, most of the good ones are!  However, the toppings should not require me to saw through them with my teeth.  The pepperoni are paper.... rice paper.... thin.  Not my thing.

The environment is so well done.  The decor is beautiful and warm and welcoming.

If the menu offered more than pizza we would likely return.  However, with the blasting noise and single menu option it will fall to bottom of the list of our Milford options.

Came home from work starving and prepared to eat anything BUT pizza (having unfortunately just had this at a party the night before.)

Could I be forgiven for thinking a place with the word "Grill" in the name would have just about anything other than pizza?

Place was ok in general, but we were just so frustrated overall after a 12-hr work shift with the seeming bait and switch.

My wife and I went here today. We figured we'd try it out since it just opened and have heard people talk about the Stamford location before.

Upon entry to the place we were both impressed by the interior of the place. Very clean and atmospheric. Well done. They have some really neat looking booths that can hold what looks like ~6 people or more.

Service was fairly prompt, we didn't have to wait long. The menu is very simple, pizza, beer and other drinks. That would seem hard to mess up, but we were both not really pleased with the food. It was just OK.

My wife got a sausage and onion pizza and I got a bacon and mushroom pizza. The sauce was OK, fairly average pizza sauce. The crust was the one good part of the pizza, very thin and crunchy, loved it. The toppings were not very good quality. They put whole strips of bacon on my pizza. I had a tough time biting through them and they would just come right off most of the time. The mushrooms were complete crap. Obviously from a jar or can, they tasted like nothing..just rubbery nothing. I ended up taking them off the pizza. The tops of the pizza are very greasy, I saw a number of patrons wiping the tops of their pizza's with napkins to get it off...not really a good sign. The price seemed a bit high for the quality of ingredients, but not terrible.

I really wish this place turned out better, but we will not be returning. If I could offer some advice to the owner, please, PLEASE, use fresh ingredients for toppings. Those mushrooms were absolutely unacceptable.

Wait, wait, wait, to be served and then there's just Pizza. Milford could do much better than the Colony Grill in the Harrison's location!

I don't normally write reviews, but I felt this warranted a mediocre rating. We weren't sure how to feel when Colony Grill opened up, but definitely wanted to give it a try since we've always had great experiences with food in Milford and the NH area.  The wait was about 20 minutes for two of us on Friday night about 6:15pm and not only was the outside area packed, but people were coming and going with numerous takeout pizzas.  We figured any place that busy and that has ONE menu item has to make it pretty amazing.  Not so with Colony Grill.

We started with two beers (both lukewarm, which in 88 degree summer heat is especially disappointing...) and ordered two pies - hot oil and bacon one the first, halfsies on mushrooms and Serrano peppers on the second.  The wait time was probably 15-20 minutes and the kitchen seemed to pushing the pizzas out nonstop. They looked great!

Pizza #1: (hot oil and bacon)... After having amazing, spicy hot oils in sub/sandwich shops and delis, we expected this oil to be similar. Alas, this was just plain ol' oil that had been heated up and was saturating the pie.  Really? Come on.  Either our taste buds are so immune to heat or we were robbed of annnnyyy flavor. Oh, and the bacon was in whole slices scattered around the pie.  Whole slices?? It's really a blast to try and bite a piece and have the entire hot slice come off and burn your face.

Pizza #2: (half mushroom, half serranos)... Colony Grill calls their Serrano peppers "stingers", which not only requires you to inquire with your server, but makes you apprehensive when they also say, "They're really, really hot." We tried anyway. Again, three WHOLE peppers on three slices... Mind blown.  Can this place not slice anything into bite size? They were oily, only mildly hot (seeds removed and cooked down so much that they lost flavor) and did I mention whole? Plus, they plop one in the middle of every pie anyway! The mushrooms... don't get me started. Jarred. Canned. Whatever, they weren't fresh. Again, if you're claim to fame is going to be pizza... don't half ass it and use slimy mushrooms that last a lifetime.

Verdict? Meh at best.  If you want a $9 one-size-fits-all plain cheese, they got that down pretty well - thin crust and crispy in all the right places - you're good to go.  Toppings are another story. We should've just stuck with the basics maybe.

PS The A/C was set on 80 during our first heat wave of the summer... Warm beer and lack of cool air in a crowded restaurant... Maybe just get take out.

I used to frequent Colony in Stamford so I was very excited that they opened a Milford location.  I was not disappointed!  A good selection of beers, including from Two Roads in Stratford and tasty Dogfish 60 IPA.  They have a huge space taken from an old hardware store with some vintage decor.  Inside seating is ample and there a great outdoor area in back.  The pizza is as expected = very good with fresh ingredients.  Colony Grill is a welcome addition to downtown Milford!

I love everything about Colony. The location, the vibe, the menu, the patio, the beer and especially the Hot Oil!!! The hot oil pizza is a must when you come here. Be warned that the pizzas are thin crust so you may eat more than you wanted to -- but don't feel guilty-- they're too yummy for guilt.
A tip though-- they do not reheat well. So get 'em while they're hot!

Welcome to Milford, Colony....and a very welcome addition you shall be!

Checked out Colony yesterday...twice actually! Since the day was so gorgeous after the rainy weekend, my friends and I decided to grab a few drinks. Over to Colony we headed. First off, the outdoor bar is great. The bartenders are fun and friendly and service was quick. Good beer selection, with some local offerings. The bar is covered too....so it'll be a good outside spot even on a warm, rainy summer night.  We checked out the inside for a minute--very open and inviting. Great looking bar inside as well.

We left to check out a few other spots...and had more people join us. Hunger came upon us...so we headed back to Colony. We tried three pizzas--one classic with oil, one with bacon and one with sausage and onion. They came out extremely quickly and nice and hot. All three were delicious! Thin, crispy and fresh ingredients.

    Definitely a great new place....

Just a word of advice for people who haven't eaten at Colony before--they only have one size pizza. A basic pie is $9 and then additional toppings are $1.50.

This place will be a game changer for downtown, mark my words.

Onto the space: they did a fantastic job on this building. Clearly no expense was spared, and the outdoor bar/patio is fantastic. I'm really impressed by the job they did here, and the owners showed respect for the city and downtown all along the way. It could've gone the other way very easily when building on top of a landmark like Harrison's. I'm just glad a bustling restaurant has replaced the sad shadow of its former self.

The pizza is expected from Colony. A bit crispier than what I recall from Stamford, so that's good. It's not great, it's good pizza. I actually think it's perfect for a night out, because it's not too heavy and it's super thin. It's a cracker-like, extremely thin crust.

The beer selection is acceptable, with welcome local offerings from Two Roads in Stratford. I'd like to see the list a bit more diversified, and some unique beers rotated in. More microbrews, please.

Service was pretty solid for a new opening.

Are there better choices for pure pizza in Milford? Absolutely. But Colony offers something unique, both in atmosphere and the pizza itself. It's very much worth going to, especially on a summer night on the patio.
