In spite of being located at a very busy intersection, the  outdoor dining area is pretty quiet and the view is terrific. They allowed our pooch to join us on the patio. The menu selection is extensive and there are many GF options. The meats are local sourced and natural. I had a burger and the GF bun was one of the best. It was delicious from start to finish. My dining mate had the venison egg rolls and gave good reviews to them. The service was fantastic and very friendly.
Review Source:I go to CMB often, in spite of the fact the past few times the food has been just OK. Â Up until the last time I was there, their ribs were my absolute favorite in town. Â When they arrived they were cold and, well, Â just OK. Â I was there most recently on 1/12 (a Friday evening) with a friend. Â We didn't wait too long to be seated and I had the fish tacos for the first (and last) time. Â The mango salsa was delish, but the actual fish was flavorless. Â It was breaded and fried, which often is where the flavor comes from on a fish taco, but this fish lacked any flavor at all. Â Even the tortilla chips were just bland. Â
The service is good and the wait staff friendly, as always. Â I had the blonde ale, which is always good.
After foolishly not brining any snacks on my rough hike on The Incline, I was absolutely famished and ready for a hearty meal. In searching nearby, I saw this place and, being a lover of beer and brewpubs, raced over.
We were sat right away at a high top table, which seemed to be the style of table that covered most of the place. The dining room is laid on in a bit of a funky way, where you kind of feel like you're always in the middle of "traffic", with servers going back and forth and being pretty close to the bar or the kitchen.
They have guest beers on tap and of course their own-I went for their Hefeweizen, my girlfriend went for their stout. Unfortunately, mine ultimately tasted like water, and hers had a slight chocolate malt taste, but really wasn't much better. It's kind of a big strike when a brewpub's own beers aren't good.
Foodwise, we started with some soft pretzels that really hit the spot and featured some awesome queso sauce. For my entree, I had their roast beef french dip sandwich with fries. Both were also really good-the roast beef was tasty, the au jus was great, and the fries were really good.
Our server was decent, but not the most attentive. She seemed to like to come and go a lot, but wasn't that efficient-for example, we ordered our beers, she  brought those, and asked if we wanted to start with any food. We ordered the pretzels-she went over, punched this into our order, and then literally came right back over to take down our entree order. Huh?
Overall, unfortunately, Colorado Mountain Brewery was very "meh". While I enjoyed the food, the beer was quite bad for a brewpub, and the service was not very good.
Maybe I'll return if I'm in the area and really hungry, but I won't go out of my way to go back.
I've eaten at the Colorado Mountain Brewery near the Air Force Academy on two recent trips to visit my cadet son. Â On both occasions we arrived shortly before closing but the service was great and we weren't rushed on either occasion. Â Both waitresses were exceptionally polite and it was obvious they are good to the cadets. Â The ribs, burgers and pizza were great. Â Same for the Caesar salad. Â They have a deep menu so you'll find something you like. Â My wife loved the sweet potato fries. Â The homemade beer was superb - even for a beer snob. Â Really liked the amber ale. Â I hope the AFA community supports this location - they've been great to my cadet.
Review Source:Great service and great food!  We were greeted promptly and friendly with smiles and led upstairs away from the bar and in front of the fireplace. Our server was nice enough to light the fire place for us and we moved our table closer. Very romantic for a brewery. We had the Bison Poppers! WOW. They are great. The burger was great and the stuffed trout was awesome. The creme brûlée was really good. They carry New Plant beer which was a bonus. A bonus was when the bartender announced an engagement that night right downstairs....
Review Source:Colorado Mountain Brewing Company'  if you know San Diego you know gordon biersch or karl strauss.  this stop was very similar.  we stopped here to eat some food and drink some beers.  i ordered a flight of tasters  a taster of 7 brews  the panther was the most memorable.  a smooth ipa that made me crave my San Diego bitters.
Review Source:pretty damn good food, and i''m super picky. the atmosphere in here is amazing. its like upscale casual. it was awesome. the service was just a little to be desired. a little too much going on everywhere and u could tell that everyone was a little on edge. that is my only complaint. but i guess i can't blame em because they were suuuuppper busy.
ps. the bison stuffed jalapeños are HOT!
My wife and I went her last night and I can honestly say my money would have been better off being spent somewhere else. The building looks great but the service was just okay and the food was the same. Their menu looks amazing and sounds amazing but when I actually received it I felt like it was super bland and not worth the price.
I think everyone should try it atleast once but my first impression was not good.
After reading many reviews and some discussion, we decided to give it a shot. The atmosphere is great and the view is fantastic.
Our waiter seemed like he couldn't care less. I first ordered a water and a coke... He cut me off and didn't hear the soda part. Okay, I guess it's all the better because I should have ordered a beer. Chance taken to enjoy the experience. Great choices and the beer was what you would expect from a brewery.
Our food arrived in a timely matter but our waiter was not the one who brought it out (the gal who delivered it was lovely!) as he was busy standing two feet behind our booth staring out the window? The food was great! But it did take twenty minutes after we were finished to receive the bill. Unfortunately this gentlemen ruined our experience. Maybe we will return? I heard the cheddar soup is super tasty!
Well, Â I can't speak to anything other than this.....we had just finished the Cave of the Winds tour, Â and were ready for a snack and a beer. Â We entered the restaurant, Â where there were three women in a deep reverie over their computer screen. Â One looked up, Â asked "Three?" Â Yes, please. Â And then.........and then........and then......the boy was getting fidgety, Â we were all thirsty......and then......and then......whatever the computer was doing, or not doing, Â it was far more important to these women than the paying customers in front of them. Â So, Â we left. Â They just looked at us with these dumb cow expressions as we walked out. Â Too bad, Â because the place is so glossy it looks as though they have a lot of overhead.
And what is with people slapping up a shingle that says "Brewery" Â these days, Â when really all they are is a restaurant that serves beer? Â Brave new world, this.
A nice brewery/restaurant north of Colorado Springs by the Air Force Academy. The building is really nice, built to look like a log dwelling from up in the mountains. It has a very 'chain' type of feel to the inside though. The service was friendly enough, but only the bare minimum considering it was very slow. I was also disappointed I couldn't try the buffalo dish they had on the menu, as they were out at the time. What I ended up with was good though, and my mother enjoyed her meal as well. The beers are pretty average across the board and they don't have too large of a selection. This place has quite a lot of potential, so hopefully they are improving!
Review Source:I have been driving by this building for 25+ years, so I was very excited to finally get to visit a great adaptation of the space. We had a nice lunch, but...
- the space is nicely remodeled, but slightly generic. I wish more of the historic nature of the building had been included in the design. Nevertheless, it's a nice space with great views.
- the service was friendly, but not sharp. Water was not refilled, plates were not cleared, the check was not picked up quickly.
- the food was ok, but not great. The bison chili had great, spicy flavor, but should have been warmer. The side salads had clearly been plated earlier in the day or a day before and were slightly wilted, and the side of caramelized Brussels sprouts were not caramelized at all, more like sautéed or steamed.
All in all, it's a nice addition to the area, but could be a great place with a bit more effort.
I am confident saying that it was the best food and service that I've ever had in a brewery....and I've been to a lot of breweries in my day! We sat in the upstairs area which was very quiet for being a brewery overlooking the bar area (which has tons of tvs) so you could still watch a game without the bar atmosphere. Our server was awesome, giving suggestions on food and quick with refills. What I especially loved was the ingredients and combinations of their menu items--they have standard restaurant fare such as appetizers, burgers, pizza, pasta, etc. but with a twist. Instead of plain jane chicken quesadillas, they had duck quesadillas with a mango salsa and bison poppers in place of regular jalapeno poppers with bacon, cream cheese and jalapenos. We worked up a bit of an appetite at Garden of the Gods and got two appetizers---truffle fries and bison poppers.
They are not stingy with their portions at all. There were six gigantic bison poppers, generously packed with cream cheese and ground bison. If you're afraid to try bison, don't be, it's not gamey at all and has a smooth flavor along with the rest of the flavors of the popper which then gave you a little punch of heat after a few seconds. There were three of us and we couldn't even finish the truffle fries which were perfectly seasoned and had a lot of cheese on them as well. But I made the mistake of ordering a full meal on top of the appetizers which I knew I would regret but everything sounded amazing! I got the fried fish tacos which came out with one solid piece of fish atop spicy, creamy cole slaw and then topped with a fresh mango salsa. I tried to eat it but it quickly got awkward since the piece of fish was so big so I ended up cutting it up then just eating the fish, cole slaw and salsa. I never thought I would enjoy fish tacos here in Colorado but this place proved me wrong, it was bomb.
So why aren't they getting 5 stars? Because they are a brewery and I left not knowing anything about their beers. Our server asked if we have ever been there and we said no and she didn't tell us if the beers were made there or what the story was (which I like to know if I'm supporting a local place). Beer was on my mind so I asked for a beer menu but she said they didn't have any which I found off since *ahem* brewery is in the name of the restaurant. She spouted off what kinds of beers they had without names so I'm not sure if they have any and they had about three different IPA's so I went with the regular IPA. It was pleasant and hoppy but nothing memorable. I would love to come back here in the area but would sit in the bar area next time to find out some more about their beers then venture upstairs for fabulous food and service.
After driving by CMM earlier in the day, it looked like a cool place to have dinner on our last night in Colorado. The inside is modern classy pubish with bars upstairs and downstairs. The server was friendly and had a good knowledge of the beer selection.
I ordered the mussels, which I was concerned about considering it was the beginning of january - but I went for it anyway upon the server's recommendation. I also wondered about the portion size, but no need to worry, for it was plenty. They were surprisingly fresh and nice-sized, with a good white wine flavor. Everyone's food came out in less than 10 minutes, which was impressive considering it was a packed friday night.
I unfortunately can't speak on behalf of the brew, for by now we had been trying beers all week and needed some old fashioned h2o (before we hit the bars that is)
A nice place to check out whether you seek a casual, fun, or formal experience. Will be back next time I'm out that way to check out the brews!
My first experience with this place was a good one. The service was great and the place wasn't too packed on a Sunday despite there being sports on all of the televisions. I wanted to try one of their locally brewed beers and opted for the Blonde. It was incredibly drinkable and very refreshing- a perfect summertime beer. I only wish it actually was summer!
For food, I ordered the Elbert burger which comes with pancetta, mozzarella and the most AMAZING garlic aioli sauce. Seriously, that sauce is bomb... I want to put it on everything! To be honest, I don't think the burger would have been that great at all if it weren't for that aioli. Ok, ok enough about the aioli :) Next order of business is the truffle fries. Normally I am a huge fan of truffle fries, I mean, what's not to love?! Well, If I were you, I would not order these things. Get the regular fries instead! These truffle fries are not crunchy, they are actually soggy and greasy feeling and they look like the kind of fries you buy restaurant style in your local grocer's freezer section. Needless to say, I was disappointed.
They have a lot of other delicious sounding things on the menu as well, like wood fired pizzas and a large seletion of specialty burgers. Overall, I really liked this place and it's local feel.
I'm not a big reviewer (although I use Yelp to decide where I'm going all the time), but when I saw this place had fewer than five stars I had to speak up.
The food here is exceptional. Get their chicken wings -- they're actually thighs prepared French style. They're always perfectly crisp on the outside and SO juicy on the inside. They also have a lot of what's considered "Colorado" food specialties. Their menu has great variation and is exceptionally executed.
The beer is great and their wine list isn't bad either.
The ambiance is great, whether you want to watch the games or have a mountain view.
Service is unparalleled. I'm pretty picky, and I've never had a bad experience here.
It's definitely one of my husband's and my favorite spots. The one up on Academy is great, too.
Honestly, I rarely give 5 stars but I started to think about what I didn't like and I couldn't think of anything. The beer was great...I mean really great. I'm an avid beer fan of all the Colorado Micro's and this place had many that I've never tasted to include their own. I tried their seasonal Porter and I loved it and will definitely get it again. My wife had the blonde and it is a keg worthy beer for it's drinkability. So light and smooth.
The menu selection wasn't large enough to confuse you but it had enough things on there to satisfy everyone if no one can agree on a "type" of food. I had such a hard time deciding what to eat but ended up getting their blue cheese burger which was absolutely delicious! Blue Cheese, onion rings and bacon are all an instant way for me to order your burger. My wife got the burger with the Garlic remoulade and it was out of this world. I will be back here in no time wether I'm jonesin for their brick oven pizza's, pasta or a burger.
hmmmm. Im very conflicted with this review. I was on a brewery tour with a friend and stopped here to see what they had to offer. My review is based on the beer alone.
First the Good.
What a place! Very chic and modern. The fire place outside is something to be seen, its very different than anything else. The food was amazing. There fries are in a league of their own. Man, im getting hungry just thinking about it. They use some sort of truffle oil, its amazing!
The bad
Sigh. The beer was not impressive. We got the sampler and it just wasn't up to a traditional brewery standard. The flavors were either dull lacking all flavor, or so over the top that it was hard to stomach. Other than that the place was good. Just not good beer.
Visited on a Saturday early afternoon - no wait to be seated....party of 6. So no complaints on waiting around to be seated! (I had called the night before to make reservations and was informed that they don't take reservations for Friday or Saturday...seemed weird, but whatever...)
Positives: waitress was very attentive, Â great atmosphere, beautiful decor, really clean bathrooms
Negatives: numerous errors (3 out of 6 entrees) were missing items, drinks forgotten, coffee spilled as it was served, chocolate torte served with a spoon (ok...maybe that's just personal preference....but cake is eaten with a fork, right?)
Tablemates all agreed the food was overpriced and uninspired. Meh....I had the BBQ Bison Burrito. Size: Gigantic (think Chipotle large)....so LOTS of shredded bison meat, black beans, and there probaby should have been some BBQ sauce...but it was not detectable. Driest thing I've ever eaten. Now if they reduced its size and smothered it in their Bison Chili, THEN they'd have a Burrito worth talking about! (At least serve it with a side of BBQ sauce!)
I guess this would be a great place to drink beer on a Friday night....to see and be seen...but for a casual lunch with family from out of town, it was truly disappointing.
My husband and I came to the Springs from Denver to see family and he had been here before and wanted to check it out again. Â I am by no means a beer/brewery connoisseur, so I'm not going to glorify my review as gospel, but I did find this restaurant pretty fancy - which seems to be the trend with breweries these days. Â It had an AMAZING looking patio with a nice fireplace (it smelled a little bit like gas, but I'm sure after a few beers I wouldn't give a shit) and in the spring - this will be a great place to chill out with friends! Â
The staff was GREAT! Â Our waitress was attentive and friendly and the cooks behind the counter (they have an open kitchen layout) were personable and friendly (we got lost trying to find the front door... No we hadn't been drinking) and everyone seemed to be having a really fun time. Â
They had 4 sports games on the t.v. and offered flights for their brews. Â All the patrons seemed to be having a really fun time. Â
I would say - this is a more pricey option for folks (not a dive bar, for sure), but if you're in town with family - a great place to have a nice meal without having to take your jeans off.
If you would have asked me for a review after my first visit, you may have gotten 1 or 2 stars. Â But I think I'm up to 3 after 4 visits.
The first time I went to CMB, I went on the recommendation of friends. Â I took my out-of-town parents for a "CO Springs Experience," and was sorely disappointed.
Upon arrival, I was faced with my #1 restaurant pet-peeve. Â Approximately 80% of the tables in the joint were wide open, and the hostess told us we were facing a 20-minute wait because they were under-staffed. Â My father was furious.
After getting to our outdoor table, we could hardly hear each other. Â The waitress actually joked about a study that showed how many cars go by each hour, almost in apology for the noise we were experiencing. Â We waited too long for apps, only to have the server (not our primary server) drop them, wordlessly, onto our table in a big stacked mess. Â (Literally-- multiple plates stacked for carrying, carelessly dropped off in a big pyramid of plates.)
I have to say, our nice and competent primary server made up for the madness.
I later went back three more times, for activities where I didn't get to pick the location.
I will admit, both times were better. Â The bison poppers are especially yummy, and the burgers are good. Â I really love the pizza with prosciutto and arugula-- I find it to be better than the previously-reviewed Pizza Rustica.
So.. Â Here's my final rec: go if it's nice out, if you want to eat outside, and/or if you want to have apps and beer for dinner. Â Other than that--- it's not the best place ever.
It's interesting to see the comments about how this location compares with the northern one. I happen to think that this one was better but maybe it was because of the dishes we ordered.
We started with the Bison Poppers which are an absolute must have at either location. My wife ordered the Wagyu Beef and I ordered the Seared Ahi Steak. Both of the choices were very good! The Ahi Steak was accompanied by some seriously good wasabi mashed potatoes and the Ahi itself was perfectly prepared and topped with an excellent sauce. My wife's Wagyu Beef was also very tasty and is not on the menu at the northern location. It had a very unique flavor and was quite tender as well.
Another common bit of feedback tends to be that the service isn't great but we did not experience that at all. Our waitress was attentive, knowledgeable and timely.
The atmosphere here is also better than the northern location. Love how they renovated the old railroad building and there are a number of nice places to hang out if you are just there to enjoy the hand crafted beers.
Overall, we were quite pleased and awarded this location an extra star (compared to the Interquest location) for that reason.
First the good -- Â The owners did a fantastic job in renovating the historic "Van Briggle" building. Nice vibe and set-up, though we unfortunately were seated in probably the only "bad seat" in the dining room, against the south wall and under extremely bright florescent lighting, that I felt I needed to put on sunglasses (won't make that mistake again.) Â Really nice and inviting bar area on the north side of the building.
Second the so-so -- Food is just "ok". For some reason, with the great atmosphere, I was expecting a bit more, but alas the food is on-par with their northern location, which is not necessarily a good thing. Â While everything is ok, there was no "wow' factor in any of the entrees or appetizers. Nothing to really set them apart.
Third the area of improvement -- Â i agree with so many other reviewers that they really need to step up in the area of service. Â While waiting at the bar, I noticed a mid-age bartender that thought he was some sort of Casanova, flirting annoyingly with two young women that were young enough to be his daughters. The girls were not amused, and thought he was some old creep. At dinner, the young and inexperienced waiter kept "apologizing for everything". Sorry it took long for me to get your order, Sorry I forgot to bring your waters, Sorry (twice) I brought the wrong order to your table, Sorry your order took so long, Sorry I didn't bring you your check timely. Though the guy was nice, I got tired of him constantly saying he was "sorry".
Overall, I guess I could see myself returning, only because of the cool ambiance. The food is ok, the service needs work. Â I really expected a lot more of this place.
I've been to both locations and I think the North location is a bit better...
We had a great time, due to the company we were with. Â But, my friend is allergic to eggs and asked several times about a specific appetizer and was told it was egg free. Â When it came out there was a sauce on it and she asked again just to be sure, and then waitress said "Oh yeah there's egg in the sauce... just not in the rest"... Uhhhhh Helllloooooo????
The rest of the food we ordered all tasted pretty good but it left a bad taste in my mouth that allergies were not taken more seriously. Â
This is someone's life at stake here...
We have been here a few times, and liked it every time. The first time we stopped in was after a date. My wife had done some sake at dinner, and wanted to stop and drink some beer. We arrived about midnight, and sat at the bar. All the chairs were up on the tables, but we weren't there for food anyway. The bartender, a very friendly girl, told us they were technically closed, but said that there was no problem with us hanging out. My wife order a cup of the "Blonde" and enjoyed it. We sat out by the fireplace, which was awesome. It was cold, and the fire was nice. Plus, it looks cool. Several employees came out  and visited with us while they smoked cigarettes. We hung out for about an hour.
The second time we went was with friends, and we just hung out by the fireplace and drank a few beers. It was very nice.
The third time was after a movie. We stopped in cause my wife wanted to drink some beer and take advantage of the babysitter. It was slow, and most of the patrons were employees that had been cut. I started chatting with a fella named Blue, that works there, and when he learned it was my birthday, it was like a stampede! He insisted on buying me a ton of drinks and shots, and since I don't drink, I simply shared them with my wife. The bartender was awesome, funny, and we showed off baby pictures and shared jokes.
The last time we were there we actually ate. The food we had at the table was fish tacos, prime rib, and bacon wrapped trout. The tacos were fresh, light and flavorful. The prime rib was juicy, tender and cooked to perfection. My mom ordered this, and is was rare, which she wanted, and awesome. The home style smashed potatoes were a perfect accompaniment. My grandmother and I both ordered the bacon wrapped trout. It was repulsive. The skin was still on the fish, and the bacon was wrapped around it, so to eat it, you had to peel the bacon off, then peel the skin and scales off, then reassemble and eat. On top of that, the fish was dry as a popcorn fart, and incredibly fishy and gross. Luckily, the waitress was super gracious and exchanged it for a prime rib for me. My grama didn't eat much of her fish either. She was displeased with the bacon being wrapped around the scales too.
TLDR; The beer and atmosphere is top notch. The food was good, but PLEASE, stay away from the bacon wrapped trout. It's terrible.
We tried CMB on a Friday night with a group of 20. Â First, I want to say that they did a great job of renovating the old Van Briggle building, which was a train roundhouse (Colorado Midland) before that. Â Two stories are connected with a half-spiral staircase, and both have bars so you won't have to wait for a cold beer. Â Upstairs is a separated room great for groups.
Previous posters mentioned a maximum of six checks per group, but that was not our experience, we had ten checks in ours, 14% gratuity pre-added. Â The selection of beers was very good. Â Besides the six home brands, they had several more Colorado taps available. Â The few I sampled were very good.
The menu is varied without the bloat. Â Lots of game, bison and seafood on both the app and entree sides. Â Although they may have a good selection of desserts, we didn't get there.
All of the meals in our group were very good, there wasn't anybody who didn't like their order. Â I had the "bison meatloaf wellington" which came with ginger-glazed carrots and garlic mashers. Â I asked to substitute the bacon-roasted brussels sprouts instead of the carrots, and they happily complied, then included the carrots anyways.
The only food-related complaint was that some of the dishes were on the luke-warm side, which can often be expected when they are trying to serve a party of 20 all at once. Â Other than that, the service was great, the beers stayed full, the noise level was modest, the temperature was comfy and the food was delicious. Â I will try CMB again as a date-night destination.
Everyone's review is right on. I avoid the other location because the food and service are lacking. The service at this location makes the north restaurant look professional. The only reason I went is because friends wanted to check it out.
Everyone in there acted like they just wanted all the customers to go home so they could close up shop ... at 10 p.m. The tap selection is good, but don't try getting a second beer. The staff completely ignores customers. The layout is pretty good, but that's about it.
I went for lunch the other day. I thought the placed looked great inside and out. The food was good and service ok. Â We were seated in the bar area at a high top. Â Almost all the tables were under a vent that blasted cold air. My wife had to go out and get a fleece to keep warm.
I'd give it another try.
