Visited for the first time on 7/6/13. The lunch service was super slow considering it was a Saturday. The lounge was full and it looked like only one server was covering the entire place. I ordered the Lobster Corn Chowder and my husband got the Fresh Atlantic Salmon. In total, we were there for an hour and a half for just those two dishes - that's how slow the service was!
On top of the slow service, the food was meh. My soup had the meat of one claw and was mostly a giant vat of cream with some corn floating in it. My husband's salmon was overcooked and way too dry.
I can't recommend this place and I definitely wouldn't return here.
My wife and I came to the Common Man on our first night in Lincoln, had beer and cocktails, steak with arugula and mashed potatoes and the lobster ravioli with braised beef. Both cooked according to our wishes, good quality beef and tasty, decent portions. Certainly the Common Man is a good choice, worth the wait, with friendly staff and nice atmosphere.
Review Source:We loved the Common Man! Â The service was wonderful - the folks that work there and the restaurant were both warm and inviting. Â I wish we could have gone back every night that week! Â Definitely pop in and enjoy the complimentary cheese & crackers and the white chocolate after dinner! Â Highly recommended!
Review Source:For starters, I should say that I have gone to this restaurant many times over the years. Â It used to be the place to go when you absolutely didn't want to chance it anywhere else. Â
It just seems that lately customer service has gone down along with food quality. Â I will go back there because every once in a while you get a gem of a server and a gem of a meal, but it seems more often than not that is not the case. Â
Things are never terrible altogether, but if the Common Man could consistantly deliver it would be a much easier choice to go there over other places, as new places are always popping up around the Lincoln/Woodstock area.
I'm very torn about which kind of star rating to give it because every once in a blue moon I get 5 star service and then the next few times I go I get 2 star service. Â No place can be perfect all the time, but the food and service shoud be about the same.
This restaurant is awesome! My bf & I had dinner there twice because it was that good! The ambiance is fun and unique. The wait staff is extremely attentive. The beer selection is unique and extensive. While you are waiting for your table, you are free to munch on their selection of cheeses, crackers and spreads.
The first night I got skirt steak and fries, very very yummy! The second night I tried grilled salmon, which was quiet good as well. If you are staying at Lincoln, do try the restaurant. I guarantee it will make it a memorable night.
My husband and I ate at The Common Man twice while staying for the weekend in Lincoln. We were wowed by the beautiful huge fire place and cozy room that opened to a loft with seating above. The cheese and crackers while waiting was delicious and we didn't mind a super long wait since the atmosphere was great and it simply felt like we had gone there to lounge around the fire place anyhow.
The rest of the restaurant is really charming as well, and thankfully the food was as fantastic as the environment. The first night, my husband had a seafood pie and I had a filet served with yummy butternut squash and mashed potatoes. The dinner was fantastic, but let me tell you about the white chocolate bread pudding! Oh.my.goodness!! It was FANTASTIC.
The next night, we tried to go to a different local place but they were booked and sent us packing. We thought about looking around elsewhere, but realized we just wanted to go back to The Common Man since we had enjoyed it so much. We had a very long wait but enjoyed the cozy waiting room again and had a fantastic dinner in the loft area. My husband had a lobster bisque and crab cakes (which he raved about), and I had an apple and walnut chicken. Everything was fantastic. We of course ordered the bread pudding again!!
Great place, don't miss out on it!
By far the best restaurant in the area! My fiancée and I are frequent visitors to our retreat in the White Mountains, and our trip is never complete without spending a few evenings at our favorite restaurant/bar!
The atmosphere at The Common Man in Lincoln is amazing. The dining area is great, but we much rather prefer sitting in the bar area. The large fireplace is especially cozy on a cool New England night. Service at the bar has never been less than amazing, especially when our buddies, John and Eddy are working!
Every time we stop in we cannot help but gorge ourselves on the wide array of amazing food on the menu. From the fresh Lobster Bisque, Macaroni Pizza made fresh at their Pizza bar, Scallops which are to die for or the perfectly cooked steaks.
Highly recommended to anyone visiting the White Mountains region in New Hampshire!
Probably the best place my wife and I ate while we were in the area on vacation. Very cute and comfortable atmosphere. Our server was amazing, I wish I could remember her name so I could give her a shout out. My roast chicken was delicious, nothing too exciting but good for what it was. I recommend it to anyone looking for a good meal without all the frills. The complimentary white chocolate at the end of the meal was a cool touch also. We'll be back.
Review Source:The best by far!!! The service was top notch. I have never had such a nice down to earth person serve me. From the host to the waitress. Amazing. The atmosphere was charming. My husband and I loved it. The food 100 stars. The best prime rib ever in my life and for 10 oz. and best price 19$. It was amazing. I can not say enough good things about this place.
Review Source:All of the staff were incredibly nice and helpful. The food was great and the atmosphere was excellent. They have a completely separate and populated gluten free menu which was a huge plus.
Even though our order was incorrect, they corrected it and replaced both meals on our table with fresh orders so that we would eat together. The concern and effort from the staff over this oversight was incredible and really made what could have been a bad situation an excellent customer service experience.
I got the Turkey Dinner Special and it was really tasty. My girlfriend got one of the gluten free burgers and said it was good. We ended the meal with the Creme Brulee  (sp?) Which was also really tasty.
Overall it was a great dining experience and we would go back again.
Really awesome place.
we came here on a Wednesday night which to our surprise was Wine out Wednesday. half off all bottle of wines! Â If you play this right, you can get bottles of wine for super cheap!
Free cheese and crackers. Â We had to force ourselves not to fill up before our table was ready. Â Next time, we will sit in the bar area, order wine and fill up on free cheese and crackers.
Service was great. Â Food was pretty good. Â Portions here are pretty decent. Â Oddly after 2 bottles of wine and us being tired from riding all day, we asked for our food to be wrapped up, only to forget it!
overall, great place to hang out at night. Â Everyone was so friendly.
p.s. the white chocolate at the end of your meal, eh. Â I was not impressed.
We started with the lobster corn chowder and the french onion soup - both were extremely tasty.
After that we had the New England Pot Pie (i think, it was a smorgasbord of meat, veggies, potatoes and cheese) and the Prime Rib. Â Both were excellent.
I also tried one of their bourbon flights and it complemented the Prime Rib perfectly and was reasonably priced for the quality of liquor you get.
Would definitely recommend this gem to friends!
It's one of the few restaurants in Lincoln and they don't take reservations, so get there early and be prepared to wait. We thought the turn-over was really fast, and you can eat cheese and crackers on the house while you wait. It's a New England menu with lots of choices so children will find something to eat on the menu. I ate a cucumber salad and flatbread which was fabulous. We wanted dessert which they advertise for you to save room for, but we just weren't hungry enough. However, they serve you their white chocolate at the end of the meal which was wonderful. I almost ordered dessert after that! We would definitely return.
Review Source:We were staying in North Woodstock and came here upon a recommendation from someone at our B&B. We were seated promptly and the restaurant has a warm, cozy atmosphere. The service was great, but my meal was void of flavor. My husband liked his meal more than I did, but it was still just average at best. I would only recommend eating here if you are out of other options.
Review Source:For such a popular place, I'm surprised we hadn't found this restaurant before. It's the last place before Loon Mountain, almost hidden behind the Kancamagus Lodge. It's apparently part of a chain, but the environment is homey, early American. Food and service are very good, and we left very satisfied.
A negative comment from our second visit. We came fairly early on a busy Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend, and they apparently wanted to get us in and out as quickly as possible so they could seat additional parties. The waitress brought our entrees while I was still on my soup, she took desert orders when we were eating our entrees, and the bill arrived during desert. Their attempt at rushing us was anything but subtle and is totally inappropriate for what is otherwise a classy restaurant. I have not downgraded my rating, because otherwise the quality was still there, but this aspect of their service is a problem.
We absolutely loved this place. Stayed at a place down the street, the Common Man was recommended and we were happy we tried it. Â
We walked in and were greeted by a friendly member of staff who set the mood off right, very relaxed. Â They welcomed us and let us know about the cheese and cracker bar and the specials for the night. Â We really enjoyed the waitress as she helped guide us through the menu and the restaurant.
We started with the Escargot and Almost Escargot, both would be highly recommended by us, very good and generous size.  For dinner we had the Filet Mignon and Prime Rib both were cooked to correct temperature and very delicious. We were happy by the time dessert came as the full meal was great; we went with Common Man "Mini" Dessert Indulgence and White Chocolate Crème Brûlée.
(Lunch Menu)
Prime Rib Steak "Bomb": 1/3
No idea if it was even Prime Rib. It tasted like a roast beef sandwich without any seasoning.
Steakhouse Burger: 1/3
Slapping aioli on a double-thick patty doesn't make something a "steakhouse burger". I'm reminded of McDonalds Gourmet Bistro.
P.S. Their dinner menu is probably better.
The Comman Man is a standard in our New Hampshire repertoire. Â
It definitely has more to offer aesthestically in the winter months. It is situated at the foot of Loon Mountain with amazing views of the snowy slopes. Â The huge fiery hearth is a welcome sight when coming in to chill your bones from a long day out in winter fun.
We make sure to stop here on our annual summer week as well. Â We love their bar area with cozy chairs aplenty. Â Their drinks are delightful - and decidely more adventurous as of late. Â Had a lovely CMan Side Car with a sprig of rosemary - delish. Â I would pass on the Hibiscus Martini. Â There wasn't anything remarkable except lots of red juice.
The food? Complimentary cheese, cheese dip and crackers in the bar area. Nice. Â The menu is reasonably priced. Â I highly recommend the prime rib if it's on the menu. Â Tender and flavorful. Pass on the rice. It's bleh. Â My husband loved his mashed taters along with his chicken dish. Can't comment on that dish since I was literally in heaven with the prime rib of beef on my plate.
They finish with little nibbles of white chocolate. Â Not a fan...but sweet lovers will rejoice. Â It's just not my thing. My sweetie pie loved it - and he is a sweet lovin' expert.
It would be okay with kids...there are a handful. But truthfully the dining area is mostly adults looking to enjoy a relaxing, delicicous meal. Â The food arrives in a leisurely, well-timed fashion. Â We don't bring our three littles with us for that reason.
Worth a stop by. Â Especially in the winter months.
We ate here twice on our recent vacation to the White Mountains. Â If I based this review on the first meal we had I would rate this restaurant 5 stars the food and service were excellent that night. Â Unfortunately, the service the second night was sub-par, for that I have to bump them down.
The food, both times we ate here, was excellent. Â Everyone in our party of 6 (+ a 1 year old) loved the food. Â My only complaint about the food was that the grilled chicken breast that I added onto a vegetarian dish was not seasoned. Â It was still good, just a little bland.
They tell you to save room for dessert, but we never felt like we needed one, the meals were big and they also serve you bread and yummy cheese and crackers before your meal and white chocolate chunks at the end.
Only wish I had room for dessert...
We stopped in a little before five pm with two tired four yr olds. Imagine their delight to learn Mac and cheese pizza was on the menu. My joy came with the cinnamon margerita. Seriously, I want the recipe for that it was wonderful. Throw in a cold beer for the spousal unit, and some good burgers and sweet potato fries and you have yourself a scrumptious meal. Don't walk, RUN to this place.
To steal a phrase from one of the members of our party.
"uninspiring"
The food was adequate, the same way that Applebee's is adequate, and as with Applebee's it is overpriced for what you get.
However, the service, on the other hand was fantastic! Â
We originally picked this, as the food was categorized in Yelp as Canadian, which it most certainly is not. Â
It is about as American as you can get. Â This is not the fault of the establishment, but the way that Yelp categorizes food groups. Â
Would I go back? No.
Will I recommend it to anyone I know driving through the area?
- only if they have a fear of every other type of restaurant out there.
Let me begin by saying that I really wish I had one of these near me in Rhode Island. Â The Common Man Restaurant was an absolutely lovely experience. Â My date and I arrived just a half hour after its opening and already there were more than a couple cars parked in the lot. . . a good sign in my opinion. Â A wooden sign near the road beckons patrons to the rustic appearing establishment. Â Having stayed at the neighboring Kancamagus Lodge and read the positive reviews in place for this restaurant, I found it necessary to stop in and find out what all the fuss was about.
We began our meal with fresh baked bread, a sweeter bread, and whipped butter. Â All was much appreciated as we perused the menu and toggled with wine choices. Â In the end, we ended up ordering the Rock Crab Cake, Pork Tenderloin, and Tuna Steak with a glass of white and red wine. Â The Rock Crab Cake. . . to our surprise, was indeed just a cake. Â Singular. Â At $7.99 for this appetizer, with a portion size just over a small ice cream scoop, I expected more than one. Â The flavor though was mouth-watering and lived up to its "Best Crab Cakes" notation from New Hampshire Magazine.
The Pork Tenderloin topped with a Mediterranean salsa had wonderful flavor from the grille and was paired with Zucchini and small Baked Potato. Â I was provided with extra butter promptly and was delighted by the entire dish. Â My date's Tuna Steak on the other hand was not cooked to order. Â He ordered in rare (which it was not) and in casual conversation, stated so after our waitress left. Â To our surprise, the manager Caroline popped over to our table shortly after stating that she "heard the steak was not delivered as ordered" (had she been standing on the other side of the wall?? Â How did she hear that?!) and immediately offered to have another prepared and sent out. Â As we were constrained by time due to later plans, he declined. Â In response to this she stated that she would like to buy us a dessert for our trouble. Â We thanked her and were more than delighted with her concern for our satisfaction with the meal. Â So. . . in light of this, we ordered the Mud Pie, a concoction of homemade coffee and chocolate ice cream topped with hot fudge and whipped cream. Â And boy. . . was I glad we did. Â This dessert was delicious and had I more room in my belly at the end of this large meal, I would have devoured the entire mountain that was presented to us.
Overall, I had a very pleasant time at this restaurant. Â Not everything was perfect, but perfection is something near impossible. Â The food was flavorful, the service spot on, and I felt valued as a customer. Â The atmosphere was comfortable and it was a wonderful way to begin a night out. Â I will certainly return here if ever vacationing in the area again.
Stayed at the Kancamagus Lodge for a ski weekend and nothing beats walking right across the parking lot to the restaurant.
Stepping inside the restaurant felt like I walked into someone's home that I always wanted. There was complimentary cheese and crackers while waiting. A great big fireplace that heated the entire lounge area. Across from it, was a decent sized bar that any guy would dream of having in their home. If a house had a pizza kitchen in the same room as the fireplace and the bar, this would be layout I would want in my home. The lighting was just right and felt very warm and cozy. Nothing is better than chatting up with people I just met from the ski trip over a local brew from Woodstock brewery near the roaring fire place (and I mean roaring!) definitely added the heat and smell of a great time.
My party of thirteen waited a couple hours to be seated, but well worth it. We were seated upstairs where there were two dining areas to the left and right of the stairway. The hall leading to the dining area had tables lined with old mid-1900's memorabilia such as airplane ads, comic books (for sale) and magazines. It was quite interesting.
As for the food, I had the special prime rib. It was one of the best I've tasted. Anywhere I have prime rib, Â I always order it medium rare. The outside was perfectly seasoned and the center was the perfect pink to red. It was not bloody which amazed me since most of the time it is, but not this one. It was just the right texture so it only required a few chews and down it went to my belly. They did not serve it with Au Jous, but had a thick gravy like sauce over it. At first I kinda thought it was strange but I got over it pretty quickly and it complemented just right. I had the rice pilaf and it came out perfect too. Normally, rice pilaf is bland and "barley" tasting, but this was excellent.
Service was relatively quick since it was a busy Saturday night. Once they took our orders the food came out pretty quickly. I recommend this place for the atmosphere and location in Lincoln and of course near Loon and Cannon where I went for the weekend to snowboard.
I love this place. Â We eat here every time we come to Lincoln, and we are never disappointed. Â Very solid food and excellent service. Â
I would recommend:
Baked onion soup
Mussels
Crab cakes!!!!!
Baked scallops
"Almost escargot"
Mud pie
Toll house cookie pie!!!
And of course I love the complimentary white chocolate chunks at the end of the meal. Â Definitely go here, you won't be disappointed!
This was my first Common Man experience and I believe it is my favorite of the Common Man's I've visited so far.
I love to dine downstairs in the bar area. There's a large fireplace, cheese and crackers, comfy seats, a checker board and sometimes if you're lucky live music..possibly a cello or a fiddle player by the fireplace.
I feel right at home here at the Common Man. All I need is a mountain man at my side to have a drink at the bar. Their own brand of beer isn't too bad either.
Wow, can't believe I've never reviewed this place in all the times my family has visited! Â I love the lounge with cheese and crackers as a free appetizer while you wait. Â The white chocolate free dessert served with your bill sweetens the burden, too.
The food is always solid but our server was a bit "out of it" the night in question. Â He asked if we wanted bread then forgot to serve it. Â Dad asked for caramelized onions and those weren't served on his meal, either. Â My tuna tasted delicious but the side of butternut squash I ordered didn't make it onto the chef's order slip.
Despite all those guffaws, the Common Man is filled with solid people, as well. Â I left my wallet there and they called the number on my business card, found in my wallet. Â I was able to pick up the wallet as soon as we got out of the woods after our hike.
Definitely go with the "Yankee homestyle" food. The pot roast was excellent, moist and tender. The prime rib was only so-so...a little cold on temperature but still moist. It was a special (blackened) so maybe the normal is better.
I was happy to be greeted with a couple nice craft beer selections. Common Man Ale (which is actually Smuttynose's original pale ale recipe), Harpoon IPA and Tuckerman's Pale were all on tap. The liquor selection is hit or miss but luckily there was a nice Tito's martini.
Our server, Fred, was friendly, informative and helpful.
We took home some Mud Pie and it looks good too.
Worth a stop for sure if you're in the area.
What a remarkably wonderful lunch we enjoyed at The Common Man, after a long day driving the stretch of the Kanc. The lounge, well, the entire restuarant, really!, is the perfect atmosphere, with comfortable easy chairs and low tables. The complimentary cheese and crackers is such a nice touch. Our lunches were tasty and our waitress was attentive and helpful.
We have gone to The Common Man restaurant and inn in Claremont, NH and loved it, but this one was even better. The upstairs area has a wall of vintage advertisments and Life magazines for sale that I could have looked through for hours and hours. Even the restrooms, with cute mountain-related quotations painted on the wall, were a sight to see.
If you're riding on the Kanc, I highly recommend trying out The Common Man while you're there!
I'd give it a meh, but the prices were so good that I can't.
My dad loves this place and really wanted to stop in after ziplining up the street. Â I think half the problem is that we came here around 4 pm, so they were in between lunch and dinner which meant that we literally had half a page of the 4-ish page menu to choose our meal from. Â Given that this is a family restaurant in NH, you'd think they'd serve the full menu at all time.
I got a house salad, which was pretty good, though nothing special, and bbq chicken tenders. Â The batter wasn't up to par (I am a world renowned expert on chicken fingers; well, I should be), but they weren't bad. Â Pretty disappointed I didn't get to try anything else. Â The only other options were burgers and I'm not really a fan.
I was peer pressured (by my dad) to get a drink, despite that morning's terrible hangover from all-day drinking the day before. Â I got a Sweet and Sour from their specialty cocktails, which was very good. Â And only 6 bucks! Â I wish I could drink that cheap in New York.
Oh, the best part was the bathroom with all the sayings written on the wall. Â Disregard the woman talking to you...
Complementary cheese and crackers. So homey.
Its the little things that make all the difference in the world.
When visiting New England, I want to go to a typical New England style restaurant. This was it. Not fancy, not pretentious, not trying to be something it wasn't. Â Cozy, worn couches and chairs available in the extended bar area allowed for a comfortable wait, while surrounded by local ski motif, old checker boards and interesting wall adornments.
The mixed drink menu far exceeded the wine list, in my humble opinion. The dinner menu had a nice mix of fill-your-gut meals (turkey dinner with plenty of fixins and lobster mac N cheese), as well as lighter fare salads, seafood and nibbler apps. White chocolate bread pudding? Chocolate chip cookie cake? Save room. Run a few miles tomorrow. Its worth it.
Genuine friendly service, and who can refuse a plate full of white chocolate after dinner?
The Common Man may be a chain of 18 restaurants in NH, but don't think the quality of your food will be compromised. I never would've guessed this place was part of a franchise had I not read the Yelp reviews beforehand.
Even before you sit down, you can help yourself to free cheese and crackers by the bar. Very nice touch. The free bread we got at the table was warm and soft, and the butter was so easy to spread. Already a good start to dinner.
So many things on the menu look and sound mouthwatering; you'll probably have trouble deciding what you want. The boy and I started with the Rock Crab Cake appetizer. It won the best crab cake award in NH, and we could tell why. Perfect blend of flavors, and the lemon basil aioli was so delicious and creamy. Forget tartar sauce...you'll want to eat all your seafood with this aioli. They also have this crab cake available as an entree.
My lobster mac and cheese was heavenly. It was baked to perfection, complete with some crispy burnt bits on top. The lobster chunks were the perfect size and amount. If you love mac and cheese and/or lobster, get this dish for yourself or to share...it's soooo good... the best lobster mac and cheese I've tried.
My boyfriend got the Ahi Tuna, which he really enjoyed. Very clean and light, but flavorful and ultimately satisfying and filling. Both of our dishes came with a side of veggies (mine with sauteed green and yellow zucchini, his with an avocado salad and summer slaw).
Since it was my birthday, we had to get dessert, and our server bragged about the homemade ice cream. We picked the trio of ice cream puff pastries: Â chocolate ice cream with hot fudge, coffee ice cream with caramel, and vanilla ice cream topped with fresh strawberries. Several servers came out singing "happy birthday" to me when it was brought out. It was very sweet of them! We were too full to actually eat the puff pastry part, but the ice cream really was excellent.
Prices were very reasonable, given the freshness of the products, the atmosphere was very inviting and homey, and service was attentive and very friendly. I can't wait for snowboarding season so I can have a hearty meal here after a day of riding at Loon :)
If I could give the Common Man 3.5 stars, then I would.
Unfortunately it doesn't deserve 4 stars, at least in my opinion.
I went camping with a few of my friends a few weeks ago and out of the 2 nights that we stayed there, we ate at the Common Man 2 nights. So this is going to be a gigantic 2-part 2 day review madness!!! HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!
Not really, I guess I'll just review it...
Day one:
Our wait time was about "30 minutes" and they took us at about 15 minutes, so they were off to a great start. Then, they escorted us upstairs to a nice circular table. The atmosphere is excellent here, because it's very rustic, old-fashioned, it basically looks like they converted a giant two-story log cabin into a restaurant.
Points for that.
Exactly where I was sitting, there was a lamp shinning in my eye, which was a minor annoyance, but still something that did suck. It's something that can be easily overlooked, but definitely at least close the window.
Their (table-side) menu is by no means extensive, serving a select of upscale starters like stuffed mushrooms and other various seafood things and I'm not a fan of seafood at all. The entire menu is really seafood heaven. It was awful for me.
So basically I had a choice between the macaroni and cheese and the chicken caesar salad.
Being on a low-carb diet, I elected to go with the caesar salad - good choice for me, because it was delicious.
Surprisingly, the chicken WASN'T cold, it was warm and I think the caesar salad (in general) needs more warm chicken. The dressing was pretty much like other caesar salad dressings, but I thought it was good.
Points.
Several of my friends reported that the "mushrooms [were] really good". So if you ever go there and like mushrooms, I guess you should get the "almost escargot", which they call the mushrooms. I don't know, you can ask them.
The waitress also forgot our appetizers, so she got penalized for that. Poor girl, she was really nice though, so I hope that didn't come out of her paycheck.
My friends recommended the filet mignon, the apple walnut chicken and lamb.
Oh, and they also gave us white chocolate at the end, which was pretty nifty.
NIGHT TWO:
We went back, and I said "screw my diet" for one night. So I had it down between the chicken caesar salad and mac and cheese again. Yeah, there's really not too much on the menu that I liked. That is, until I realized they had a PUB MENU. OH YEAH.
So I looked over that briefly and ordered a cheeseburger with a substitution of sweet potato fries instead of regular fries.
I really like sweet potato fries and these were... meh, just about as good as I can get in my dinning common at UMass.
The burger was just OK. They cooked it pretty well, but I think they gave me the wrong cheese and they don't have any yellow mustard! How unfortunate!!!
The thing about the burger was that the bun was so huge, it literally made eating the burger difficult. Something which I would not prefer, especially because it soaked up a lot of the burger's grease, which is (like I've mentioned before) is pretty gross.
Our waitress the second night was nice, if anything, a little too talkative - especially when we wanted to eat or order.
Again, we got white chocolate, which was pretty good.
The bill for 6 people was around 145 with tax (damn meal tax New Hampshire!) and tip. Averaging to about $25 per person (but remember, this is the night we got 2 free appetizers).
The bill for 8 people was just about 180 with tax and tip. Averaging out to $30 per person.
So don't get me wrong, I do like the Common Man. Since I have "common tastes" and I like traditional foods, then I would recommend their pub menu. It comes with a lot of choices that you won't find on the regular one.
The location sucks. I guess it's close to 93, but the Kancamagus sucks a ton.
Cactus Approved.
Whether in for dinner in the dining room, or in for drinks in the lounge (or better yet both), you can't go wrong with The Common Man. The other reviews describing the dining rooms as "homey" and "country" are spot-on. The lighting was great (nice and dim), the service was attentive and accommodating (waitress informed us of some off-the-menu vegetarian options), and the food was delicious.
As much as I enjoyed my dining experience, I think my favorite part of The Common Man is their bar/lounge. The fireplace is enormous! One of the biggest ones I've ever seen. It was cozy and warm, yet vibrant. They had some solid live music going, and the drinks were about as good as can be.
I love stopping into this place after a long day hike in the White Mountains. Â The food is exceptional and the cheese and crackers makes for a great starter. Â I love the home brew beer, and the dinner menu doesn't disappoint.
The atmosphere is nice too; a rustic, down-home feel. Â Very nice.
No trip to NH is complete without stopping into the common man.
This is my new favorite restaurant, but unfortunately The Common Man is only in New Hampshire.
I could see how this would do well in the ski resort Lincoln, NH seems to be.
The atmosphere is great...a very homy and cozy log cabin and old days style. I think the old 40s and 50s music they played completed it.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was free cheese and crackers for us to get in the lounge, where people were sitting around the fireplace.
The food was great. I had a baked onion soup and apple glazed pork and it was delicious.
The white chocolate that came with the check was a nice touch too.
Please open up in Michigan :-P
My husband and I also ate here with his parents during our Fall 08 Foliage Tour. I knew I wanted to eat at  a Common Man restaurant somewhere in NH, based on the online menus. Word is that this is the best one of all...it must be true!
Love the woodsy, country feel to it...and the goofy old-time corny radio jokes playing for you as you pass your time on the toilet! The ambiance fits well with the White Mt environment.
And the food was phenomenal. Great flavors and fresh, and lots of it for a very reasonable price. The crackers were a new touch. I had the Lobster Corn Chowder...wow! Â And I had to have the Escargot. Â Where else can you get great snails for such an incredible price?! Plus they taste good!
My husband loved his Pork Tenderloin...mmmm, he kept saying. My in-laws were thrilled with their entrees. Wine was 1/2 off the night we went there, so that made it even better!
We left very pleased and very full. I might usually prefer a little more upscale dining, but this was definitely within my in-law's comfort level and preferences. The quality and flavor of the food was outstanding and better than some of the "upscale" restaurants my husband and I have eaten at.
After coming down off of North and South Hancock, we wanted/needed burgers and quickly. Found The Common Man and thought that it would be exactly what we needed. They don't start serving until 5 PM, but we were invited to take a seat in the bar area until they opened. Huuuuge fireplace, games around the area (we were amusing ourselves with old Trivial Pursuit cards), and fairly cheap beer.
We got seated upstairs and quickly realized that this was a much nicer place than we thought it would be...but were able to get the bar food up at our table. Our waitress was very nice and quick...she also didn't mention the fact that we were smelly :)
The dessert, triple layer chocolate cake with melted white chocolate around the base was tasty, rich, and filling. And along with our bill, we got scoops of their homemade white chocolate.
Would definately go again, but maybe sit in the bar area instead :)
