I miss you guys just at some oysters here in Virginia and well after having the best from you all I my taste buds are ruined. Now I can never eat pan fried oysters again. I wish I could have a dozen right now how I miss the best oysters west of the Mississippi, Maybe the best East Mississippi not finding much in the way of oysters out here.
Miss the atmosphere the nice staff you all need to open one out here in VA.
The last three time we have been there for lunch the service has been slow. Today was really bad, they are sooooo understaffed. The people working are working hard (the cook actually ended up taking our order). The food was fine, but nothing like you would hope for in a funky, non chain joint.
Review Source:I guess they are famous for their oysters so of course I had their oyster sandwich, messy and yummy. On my second stop recently on one rainy afternoon I enjoyed their bacon burger and fries. It was big enough to split with a friend, darn good. It is definitely a man hangout. The afternoon I was there we sat near a big table of cute older farmer type men yapping about their wives. It was fairly hilarious, still makes me smile. It's as non fancy as a bar could get but adds to the charm of the place. Great service.
Review Source:This place was pretty good! We randomly found it and Id go back again if im ever in the area. The food is a bit too greasy for me but the burger was excellent. It has a typical bar feel to it. The servers were very nice. We sat in the restaurant part with our 2 kids and other people had kids there. My toddler enjoyed the fries.
Review Source:On the expensive side for a basic burger joint. The food is pretty greasy but will be delicious if that's what you're in the mood for. They have a lot of quirky choices like deep fried gizzards (off the menu now), barbecued oysters, and many more dishes to do with oysters.
I find the burgers are too big to be manageable; I have to cut it in half just to be able to hold it, and forget fitting it in my mouth in one bite. They also use a little too much sauce.
This spot is basically a biker bar; it's fun to sit in and banter with the staff, but it can be on the loud side even when there isn't a band performing. The staff can also be a little gruff, but I think it's sort of part of the atmosphere.
I've had their BLT twice and I'm a fan!
I walked in and wasn't greeted, had to find someone to order from. Â
I decided to get an order to-go.
I spent over $17 and received 3 small chicken fingers and 4 onion rings (small to medium size) with an extra side of fries.
No acknowledgment, no thanks, no nothing after I paid and got my food.
I understand it costs money to run a business, but the markup on their food is ridiculous.
The chicken fingers were okay; but the onion rings were clearly burnt.
The fries were basic, nothing fancy.
Seems like they were more interested in talking to the customers who were buying alcohol/drinking at the bar.
I won't be coming back.
FINALLY! I was really starting to think I'd never find some good fried oysters here in the area but I finally did...at this place! They were awesome!! Sooooo much better than the ones at Leatherheads Pub in Stanwood (see my review of that place to see what I mean).
The Pub is "interesting". It's in some old building on the first level. There is some gravel type of outdoor eating area. Huge indoor eating area. The service was really quick and fast for the amount of people that were there. The customers are a mix of city slickers, bikers, local yokals, tourists etc. Don't go there if you are picky about the ambiance. If you are looking for damn good food you'll love it.
The fried oysters had a great flavor and "snap" to them. NOT mushy at all. The texture was a "crumbly" fry texture and not the smooth tempura fried texture I'm used to seeing in CA and NV but it was good anyways. The coleslaw was so-so and the fries were good.
The burgers looked thick, juicy and pink and yummy and I was really torn between getting a burger but the oysters won. At 12.99 you CAN'T go wrong with the fried oysters here.
I'll be back to try the burgers.
THEY HAVE ALASKA AMBER ON TAP TOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the barbequed oysters!!!!! Â We were told to go here for the fried oyster, but I think the barbequed ones were better! Â They serve the barbequed ones only on Saturday and Sunday...so plan to go then.
Service was great! Â Lacy was a doll....loved the atmosphere....it's kind of a biker bar and everyone was soooo nice!. My friend had the halibut and chips...with fries...also good.
Loved the place..would love to go back next weekend.
I've been here three times now and I can officially say that this place is...decent. Their food is nothing to write home about. My chili burger tasted like the chili had sat in the pot a little too long but the fried oysters were great.
The atmosphere can be interesting as there's some good people watching at night time. The crowd is very, um, diverse (read: this place is in Conway so there's a lot of Carhart and John Deer hats).
If you're headed to the bar, it's definitely not the best place to go alone unless you're in the mood to be approached by a drunk local guy who will most definitely notice that you're there alone. The place is much more entertaining if someone else is there to hear the crazy things he'll probably say.
The bartender is a really nice guy and he'll give you good recommendations from the menu which always seem to be exactly what I'm craving. Overall it's not a bad place to grab some grub but if there were more choices in the area I doubt I'd go there often.
The Conway! Yes! Â Delicious burgers and cheap beer, I mean really can it get any better? Â I and my family have been going here for years. Â I cant wait to go on a Saturday ngiht with the boyfriend and have him do karaoke cause he can sing and will rock this place. Â The blue cheese and onion mushroom swiss burgers are too good. Â This is a total hole in the wall but that is half the fun and the jukebox has great tunes. Â Check this place out!
Review Source:It doesn't get any better. Remember in Peewee's big adventure where he ends up in a biker bar and he dances on the table when the bikers are going to kick his ass. Well this looks like it could be the bar. But wait it gets better. Bikers really do hang out here, and so do the the cowboys, farmers and some city folk like me who have discovered this gem. Sundays are best win live rockabilly. Knut Bell lays it down every Sunday. Don't miss it on your next trip to the Skagit Valley.
Review Source:This place is all about the Sunday night rockabilly blaring solid and sweet from the live band Knut Bell - they totally kick ass and make my boots wanna stomp and my booty wanna shake! I'd drive up to Conway just for these guys any week (and I did tonight with Shawn J.).
The other customers are great, funny, friendly and crazy silly drunks. Freaking rockabilly and a half! You got the hicks, the blue collars, the farmer gals an boys, and some sneaky city folks trying to sneak away for a guilty rockabilly pleasure. Like me. I like this hick music, who am I kidding - I'm a redneck girl deep down.
I'd give 1 star less for the dang pub food - my being a healthy all organic eater and all. The food is ok, but I've had much better pub food elsewhere - even if it's not organic. We got the nachos and halibut and chips. The halibut and chips came out first, hot and fresh, with tartar, and tasted good. I'd say it was a speck on the dry side, but it was good enough. I did like the fries and the tartar was perfect. The nachos left me wanting - the salsa wasn't fresh (from a bottle), there was no guacamole and the olives and jalepenos were canned. The chicken was chalky/dry and the cheese was only on the top, not distributed (that distribution is the secret to good nachos in my book).
The service was great. Our waitress was slammed, she was the only one eroding the floor and paid perfect attention to us, making ire we got everything we needed. He smiled and meant it, had a friendly dimeanor, and seemed to like her job! A bonus.
I really had a blast dancing with my man, Shawn, too!!! Can't wait to come back soon.
I was told they have the best burgers so I was pretty excited to try this place. Well, I was disappointed. The burger was WELL done, pretty much black. Our server was nice but it took awhile to get out burgers.
I would try it one more time before saying I will never go back but definitely won't go out of my way to go here again.
the 2nd best bacon cheese burgers in skagit valley -famous for their oysters which i hate on general principles- good fish n chips, great tartar sauce, fun dive bar/eatery - outdoor seating, popular with the buell and harley set, funny gals serving suds and booze, lotsa loca flavor- love this place, we usually stop for lunch when heading down to a seattle mariners or sounders game
Review Source:Oh my, oyster lovers delight. We have been there but 3 times and are new to the area but there is nothing like it for oysters the 3 ways we order them, shooters, BBQ'ed (summer on patio), and pan fried. Â All three are winners and with ice cold MAc and Jack. Â Pure heaven. Highly recommended
Review Source:VIsited the Conway Tavern on Saturday May 23, 2009 at about 1pm. Â I say about 1pm because it was really a visit lasting from 12:30 to about 2:30 because the kitchen was very, very, very, very, slow.
It seemed busy, being Memorial Day weekend and all. Â But there was lots of staff on duty, although they appeared to be quite disoriented and unorganized.
This tavern is what you would call a dive. Â Having said that, it's a nice dive. Â Frankly, the ONLY reason you would want to take a drive to the Conway Tavern is for the oysters.
Truly, they serve the BEST pan fried oysters in this area. Â I'm not sure about their claim that they have the best anywhere this side of the Mississippi.
I had the oyster basket and it was exceptional. Â If not for the oysters my rating would fall to one star.
Slow service (although our waitress was very nice and attentive, kitchen was slow) and dive bar atmosphere are small prices to pay for the opportunity to eat the finest pan fried oysters around these parts.
Great pub food, great karaoke, great people watching, great place. I have spent many an evening with friends both local and those from abroad in this place, and it never disappoints. Staff is generally pretty on top of things, keeping your drinks refilled with the quickness, and checking to be sure your group is satisfied.
Bathrooms look a little scary, but they're clean, I promise. They have a great outdoor patio area for the smokers too, or warm summer evenings.
If you head into town for the Tulip Festival, stop here and try the Bleu cheese burger. YUM!
Sometimes, you just find yourself on I-5 North. And sometimes, you just feel like you've got to take that random exit that seems to go to the middle of nowhere. And sometimes, as you're driving through this random place, a big pub and eatery materializes right before you.
The service was fast, the staff was friendly enough, the food was good. The only downsides were that they don't stock Beck's anymore and, perhaps even more annoying, every single TV in the place just plays NASCAR. Totally tiny-town atmosphere though.
I LOVE THIS PLACE ! Â I love it so much that I had my rehearsal dinner here prior to my wedding. Â
If you avoid the biker season or sundays in general you don't have to deal with the stupid behavior described below. Â
This place is loved by locals - especially 20 somethings on Friday and Saturday nights. Â They have wonderful karaoke. Â Their staff is top notch and very hard working. Â I dont' know where the eating peanuts and dropping shells on the floor remark came from - I can't recall any peanuts in the millions of times I have been here.
This is the original Biker Bar! Â You have to come here during Oyster Run and watch the panties and bra's fly from the flag pole! Â You may even get lucky or unlucky enough to see some gal flash you, if you yell "I want to see some Tits"! Â Been there, seen that! Â Ugh! Â The food and beer are pretty good and you can eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. Â It can get pretty crowded, but who cares, bring the beer on! Â I love going for nachos and Spicy Bloody Mary's for lunch!
