Just the worst. Â Their seafood is not fresh, the interior is musty and the service leaves something to be desired. Â Its honestly not even good enough to go for the free birthday dinner. Â Their crab cakes are all filler, a little tasteless crab meat and a ton of Old Bay. Â Salmon is overcooked and dried out with little flavor. Â Not sure how they cook their King Crab legs, but I'm assuming they use 5 lbs of salt per pot, because it was almost inedible the last two times I had it.
I grew up within walking distance of Cooper's. Â It used to be elegant and a great place to take people from out of town. Â Not sure if it changed owners or the owners just don't care anymore, but they would have to pay me to eat there. Â Memories of a better time and being mentioned on The Office just doesn't cut it for me.
Ordered lobster and steak,Waited over an hour for food. When we got our food the steak was cooked well done when we ordered it medium. We sent it back and was asked if we would like to get another one. After waiting an hour the first time we declined. So we pretty much went home hungry! Service sucks and so does the food. The only good thing I had was my drink.
Review Source:I was very disappointed in my most recent visit to Coopers. The food wasn't what I expected and the service was horrendous.
I broke an unwritten rule of not eating seafood on a Sunday when I stopped in here on Sunday night 26-Feb-12 for dinner. The service started off ominously enough when we waited about ten minutes after we were seated to get a server. It took another 10 minutes to get our beers from the bar. We finally ordered the crab cocktail to start and the shrimp, scallop and lobster special and the lobster Newburg. It took about an hour to get our entrees even though there were maybe 10 other tables seated. The worst part is that during this time, our server stopped by once to drop off the bread and salads. I sat disappointed that I wasn't able to try another beer from the bottle list. Also, we didn't get our crab cocktail appetizer. The server didn't recognize or apologize for her mistake.
The food wasn't very good. The lobster tails were tough, dry and flavorless. The shrimp and scallop scampi was pretty tasty though. My lobster Newburg was an odd presentation for this dish. It was inundated in the sauce in that it had more of the feel of a lobster bisque with biscuits rather than a true lobster Newburg. A little restraint on the sauce would have been a better. Again, the lobster was tough and dry.
We finally got our check about an hour and forty-five minutes after we started. We only got our check after my friend had to go track down a manager so we could get our check. Thankfully, the crab cocktail wasn't on the bill.
I have been to Cooper's on a few occasions and I have enjoyed the food and service. This most recent trip left a lot to be desired, especially because I know they could do so much better.
Awful. I've been to Cooper's twice, both times for a family member's birthday. The first time I had a flavorless steak and what tasted like from-a-box mashed potatoes. For around 20 bucks!
The second time, I ordered 6 oysters - they were frozen when they were served to me. The waitress was really sweet and got me another half dozen, but that batch was dry and sticky and I decided against ingesting any more of them.
I just can't believe they call themselves a seafood restaurant when they freeze their oysters. Gross.
I guess for the region, this is considered good seafood. Â But if you've been outside of NEPA, you'll find that this is average at best.
We went for my father's birthday, since you get a free meal on your birthday with photo ID. Â The service was extremely slow but pleasant. Â I had ordered crab cakes. Â The problem was that I had had crab cakes a couple of nights prior at a non-seafood restaurant in Delaware that were excellent. Â So they were in my memory. Â The crab cakes at Cooper's were not excellent. Â They had too much binding and not enough crab meat. Â My father had the lobster which he said was okay but he has had better. Â Next time I am craving seafood, I'll have to look somewhere else.
Yelp has definitely been steering me in the wrong direction lately. I drove 37 miles to go here because I was craving some seafood and the Red Lobster just doesn't do it for me. Our service was pretty slow but the crab dip was good. Some places are like "seafood dip" which is questionable to me but this dip was definitely made of crab and good. Our main courses were not very good. The flounder dish said it came with shrimp and from a seafood place you would expect fully grown shrimp but instead there were hard baby shrimp and the flounder did not even taste fresh. The salmon said it was prepared in Jack Daniel's sauce but actually it was just slathered. Prices definitely not worth it.
Review Source:I've only been here once on a cross-country trip, but oh my god! I never wanted to leave! Everything there was fantastic! Note...get the crab!
To anyone that doesn't live in or near the PIttston area, be sure to save some money and fly or drive out there! It will be an experience you won't forget!
A NEPA institution and a birthday tradition (free dinner on your bday as long as someone in your group buys an entree, photo id required)! Came here for my birthday and happily was seated in the bar area instead of the forest room. I know a lot of people like that room, but Christmas lights and fairy dolls are not my cup of tea. Although the "landlubber" fare is good, you come here for the seafood! Had the petite lobster tail dinner and it was delicious (who wouldn't enjoy lobster and butter??). My friend and I split the crab dip for an appetizer (crab meat and cheese that is then baked and served w/salsa and tortilla chips). I normally get the stuffed mushrooms (also v. good), but the crap dip was delicious! Cooper's is also know for its soups, too. My friend had one of the specials and I tried one of the fried sea scallops. That was honestly the best thing I ate at that meal! I can't wait to go back and get the scallop dinner. Also, they have a pretty good bartending staff (if you come just for drinks, the Tiki bar is a cool spot w/beautiful river views). I tried a "Release valve" and enjoyed that, too. If you want seafood in NEPA, go to Cooper's.
Review Source:This is a really nice place with lots of options, not just seafood. Â I had the maryland crab cake bisque which was very good, a bit thick for a bisque though. Â They serve bread before the meal and have a great local orange cream soda. Â The forest room is unique and would like to have been there in the summer to enjoy the apparently good view. Â We were there at night and only a few tables were there besides us. Â Unfortunately in PA you can still smoke in restaurants but this place had no one smoking when we were there. Â They have lots of interesting old photos of Pittston on the walls. Â I would definitely recommend this place.
Review Source:Went to the Tiki Bar at the Cooper's in Pittston and they had great drinks! Happy hour was M-F 5-7 and it was a good deal with their specialty drinks being half off plus discounts on some beers and the buckets.
The biggest complaint was that the servers were very slow to get round of drinks to our group, it was busy on a Friday night but the servers were often seen just chatting behind the bar.
Like @ the Scranton location - FREE MEAL ON YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!
Again, Bisque of Maryland Crab=AMAZING
I actually prefer this location because it feels a bit more low key...same great food, but not as loud and busy as the Scranton restaurant.
I like the room that looks like a forest the most; however I do not like sitting at the tables in this room, I only like being in a booth. I felt on display when I sat at a table in this room.
Come here, get the bisque of Maryland crab, and you will be very happy.
