The worst service I have had in a long time. Â 45 minutes to get a salad and over an hour to get a burnt burger and fries that were colder than the plate. Â The excuse is that "we are understaffed"...really!!! Â It is a holiday weekend. Â Their adjustment a $5.00 off bill. Â 90 minutes later left never to go back again.
Review Source:We went here for lunch the other day and enjoyed it. We wanted to sit outside, and they have a very nice outdoor patio. We got the club sandwich with their homemade chips and the portabella sandwich with fries. The club sandwich was great. It came on thick slices of bread and the bacon was nice and crispy. The chips were barbecue flavor and were quite good. The portabella sandwich left something to be desired, however. There just wasn't much to it. The service was great, though - very friendly and attentive. Overall, this is a good place to go sit outside and have a casual bite.
Review Source:I'm from NY and was passing thru, stopped here and had some great pub food. Â The beer selection was good had my first Tavern Red, the place was not crowded, so the food, the service and the beer were great. Â Had to come when I saw the "haunted part" of yelp reviews. Â Nice place, friendly service and good pub food. Â The civil war soldiers were off the night I went!
Review Source:Delicious fish n chips
3 kinds "fries" steak, French fries (med cut), chips - all delish
The "s'mores" dessert was bleh
Our first visit they exhibited the worst service I can recall experiencing. Â They kept leaving an outside sliding door open, letting in bitterly cold air. Â They let patrons (us, next table) move really heavy tables (to accommodate my mom's scooter). Â The meal took way too long.
Our second visit - happily - proved much nicer than the first in terms of service.
Decent prices. Nothing spectacular, but the restaurant is segregated into smoking and non smoking halves, which is interesting. The clientele seems friendly, but it's the smoking half that has the pub ambiance - the nonsmoking half looks like a tired old restaurant. Â Service was very slow - we were the only table there and it still took almost a half an hour to get food and drinks - to which no refills were ever offered. Â There is a door to the outside, which can get annoying if it's chilly out and the waitress keeps leaving it open (true story). Â
The food is unremarkable. Â The fries were great, even cold, and I would have perhaps enjoyed the cheeseburger if it had been served warm, but the cheese was congealed and cold, and the food had obviously been sitting for some of the half hour we waited - no one's food was warm. Â it was pretty amusing to lift up one of the cheddar bacon fries and watch the whole plate come up with it, bound together by solidified cheese, but the funny ends when the check comes and you realize you've paid $8 for a quick laugh.
Be careful sitting on the pews - there are some that have nails sticking up. I ripped a huge hole in my pants by sliding to let someone out, and the restaurant did nothing. No apology, no discount, no manager available. My overall opinion is that the food and the service are not worth even the reasonable prices. Give it a pass and go to Warrenton - there are excellent pubs there.
Great atmosphere, great food, great prices! The Cork St Tavern is an excellent bar. I like it because there is a smoking side and a non-smoking side to it. I've been living in California for about ten years and although there are certain things I don't like about the Golden State, I do agree with no smoking in public restaurants/bars. Anyway, I was here visiting a friend and we went to the Cork St Tavern and met up with a few people. The patrons and servers were very friendly and they made us feel at home even though we were all outsiders. I don't remember what night it was but they were hosting karaoke the night I was there. My first thought was, "great, now I'll get to here some local yokel wail away at some Toby Keith song" or something to that effect. In actuality, there were three or four ringers. There was a young gal who did several popular old female singers like Patsy Cline and Ella Fitzgerald. Let me tell you, this gal sounded amazing. Also, there was a middle-aged fella who did a great host of Elvis songs. He also sounded great. So, the excellent singing took this review from a 4 for the food, beer, and service to a 5 for the overall environment. Thanks, Cork St. I hope to see you soon.
Review Source:I visited the restaurant one time when I was in Winchester for work training. It was about 7-10 of us that came for lunch we were seated pretty quickly and once we decided what we all wanted to eat the food came pretty quickly. I am glad we chose this place because the food was good it came out hot and exactly what I ordered. The only downfall of the place was the decor was a little outdated. The menus definitely have seen better days and the waitress did her job, but she had a bad attitude. I keep saying I'd go back, but since I haven't in 3 years I'm not to sure if I really will.
Review Source:Mediocre to poor food. My "steak" had all the juice pressed out of it in the kitchen - when you order a medium-rare steak it should bleed juices when cut - nah, not this one. Bone-dry. For the high price I expected something better than a steakhouse chain meal but I've had better steaks at a fast-food restaurant. Disappointing to say the least.
The only reason that I did not return it is that it looked like it was a perfect medium-rare.
We will NOT be back, and we are in Winchester regularly.
Went there on a Mon night while staying in town on business. Â Not busy at all, but that turned out not to matter. Â I sat at the bar and ordered a beer, nachos & a turkey medallions special ($5.95). Â Bartender was fine, and the nachos were excellent and unreasonably fast. Â That's a good thing. Â Another interesting note is that there was a separate side of the tavern that is smoking. Â I haven't seen smoking in a bar in a long time. Â Although I don't smoke, I don't have a problem with it, especially when there is a separate non-smoking area. Â Overall this is a neighborhood bar/tavern that is good for a beer & a meal. Â I'll be back the next time I'm in Winchester.
Review Source:This place is old & historic.
It's formerly the Rustic Tavern, the building has been there since the 1830's.
They are celebrating their 25th anniversary and serving .99 draught beers from Dominion brewing.
The place feels old and kind of thrown together, it just kind of rambles inside.
The good is less than average, I couldn't find anything on the menu that was appealing so I settled for a burger, it was disappointing.
I also tried the crab stuffed mushrooms, they were about the same.
Q: Â What do you get when you cross a chicken with a lime, Tequila, linguini, tomato chunks and alfredo sauce?
A: Â Mahgarhita Chicken
This is not your typical "tavern fare"
The food was more than tempting, served in huge portions and delicious, the service was nearly perfect. Â The Mahgarhita Chicken was very different, a little sweet, a little tart and pure goodness. Â I will have to learn to cook this at home and I'm sure I can. Â Grill the chicken, have a shot of tequila, a little salt and lime... cook the linguini, have another shot of tequila... you get the picture.
This place has one BIG thing going against it... it's smokey... VERY SMOKEY, and I left the place with the smell of ash trays in my sinuses. Â If there's one thing I don't enjoy while dining (or any other venture for that matter), it's second hand smoke.
Cork Street Tavern... I love your food, I'd love to have a relationship with you each time I visit town, but... I'm sorry, I can't take the smokey atmosphere.
My wife and I had a great experience here on a Sunday night. The bartender and waitress were both excellent and very friendly. They had a 99 cent special on domestic drafts which I happily partook in, while the wife went with a tasty sweet tea. For dinner, I ordered the special: porterhouse steak with fries and slaw. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and the slaw was delicious, the fries were not very crispy, but no biggie. My wife had a crispy fish sandwich, which was quite delicious. The only downside to our experience was the cranked AC, which made the dining area quite frigid (better than a humid mess, I suppose). On the whole a wonderful experience. We will be back.
Review Source:We live very close to this restaurant and eat here frequently. Nice casual place to get a quick bite. The ribs are good. They are my favorite restaurant in town for a good Reuben. Â We especially like Sonya, our favorite waitress there!! Â Their "throwback specials" this year are terrific, and you can't beat 1985 prices!
Review Source:Stopped by for a couple of beers while we waited for our dinner reservation at One Block West down the street. Â We chatted with others at the bar, had a few beers, watched the Olympics. Â Had a really lovely time, and frankly, I would have given this place four or possibly even five stars, Â The bartender was a very nice woman and they had 99 cent beers on tap - not just crap beer either, we had Kona Brewing Company Fire Rock. Â However, when a waitress came behind the bar and loudly told the bartender the life story of her 2 year old daughter and how she has been constipated for 18 months and all about the laxatives she has to give her, and other lovely graphic details - this place went downhill fast. Â
This is a restaurant, lady. Â No one wants to hear about your kid's crap problems while they are drinking or eating, for god's sake. Â
We were completely grossed out and left immediately.
We would totally give this place another try, but one more story about someone's kid and their poop issues and I'm calling the manager. Â If I had been eating I would have refused to pay. Â Get a clue, people!
We enjoyed a late lunch at the Cork Street Tavern on a cold, rainy day and I'm here to say it was a welcome stop. We ate in the smaller side in front of the roaring fire (which was great because I was freezing). It was pretty late in the afternoon and there were only a couple of other folks there. We had the loaded fries and I had a burger which satisfied my need for a good burger. My husband had a steak (even though folks we know had recommended the ribs). His steak was pretty good. He later wished he had gotten the ribs. The beer was cold and the service was good. The tavern was super cozy - a quite enjoyable afternoon! I would recommend if you are in the area. The building has a lot of historic significance which makes it worth the visit. I love a good tavern experience.
Review Source:We've only been there once, on St. Patty's day for Corn Beef and Cabbage and Guinness. The food was tasty, not spectacular... but hey, it was Corn Beef and Cabbage! The atmosphere is really nifty, lots of smallish rooms that feel like they've been there for hundreds of years... oh wait, they have been there hundreds of years.
The service did suck, we chalked it up to being St. Patty's day, but from what I've heard from other folks since, the service is always slow, unresponsive to needs, and generally not at all good.
Mixed reviews from other sites - my input? Â I always visit the tavern whenever in the area.
Great ribs (half rack) and bier, Tavern Red (Dominion, on tap along with Yueng Ling). Â Ribs are not the typical wet BBQ, but rather a vinegary sauce. Â Bier is always cold and plentiful. Â Food is typical American - affordable. Â Same with the bier.
The tavern is reputed to be "haunted" by Civil War Soldiers that used the building as a hospital. Â There are two sides of the place - I prefer the right side (older). Â It has a room in the back for groups. Â Bar is readily accessible, and service seems to be better. Â The left side of the establishment has a terrace in the back which is nice during the warm season. Â Dark wood paneling and wood burning fireplaces (during the cold season) gives the place a "rustic" and authentic look and feel.
Your opinion may differ, but for me, I always have a good experience.
I've spent many an evening in this place...it was the fav hangout when I went to grad school. Â But you know what? Â The atmosphere trumps the food here ten times over. I can't recall any of the meals being memorable. Â I asked for a mojito once and actually had to write down the ingredients so the waitress cold give it to the bartender. Â Fo real people....
Don't waste your time unless you're into french fries and a mediocre sandwich. Â For goodness sake, Village Square and Winchester Thai are within walking distance...
