Whether or not I liked the food kind of got lost as I was admiring the many bits and pieces that adorn their walls. Â If you get a chance, take a look above the cash register and then slightly to your left. Â Sitting there next to the sign about providing service with a smile sits this lovely notice: Â "Children left Unattended will be Sold into Slavery." Â I have seen the signs that say unattended children will be given chocolate, or a puppy, or coffee or something that will feed into their hyper active nature. Â They are funny. Â They are cute. Â But slavery. Â In case you forgot, slavery was that part of our history where millions of people died violent and horrible deaths. Â Where they were treated like property and whipped, sold, traded and looked upon as being less than livestock. Â And if I recall I think we may have fought a war over it as well. Â Maybe 600,000+ people died in it? Â And the South lost. Â But yeah....it sure is a funny punch line isn't it. Â Making jokes about the holocaust sure is fun as well.
Review Source:Breakfast buffet on Sundays for $7.50. Â One of the few diners in town. Â The regulars have their own tables and they revolve all day long. Â The wait staff is super nice and prices are very reasonable. Â Walk in and say hello as if you know everyone - it's insulting not to. Â Nothing fancy here but stick to your ribs food. Â Don't forget to wish everyone a nice day as you leave!
Review Source:Strangely enough, this little unassuming joint hit the spot after a hot Saturday afternoon in the sun.
After being dragged out to the highways near Lampasas searching through limestone for fossilized oyster shells and nearly passing out in the sun and not enough food all morning, Country Kitchen hit the local joint craving on the nailhead.
Beef, topped with a thick gravy, on simple sliced of toasted white bread. Some might judge, , but man, I scraped that beef off. Double fried fries with the perfect mix of crunchy/crispy outside and soft innards.
Extremely friendly service, great casual cooking, extremely economical.
In a small town like Lampasas the Country Kitchen should be a local favorite with farm fresh foods. You'll find over cooked rubbery eggs, "wonder bread" being passed off as Texas toast and packaged commercial jams. The coffee was watery and a little bitter. The tables were not clean and the overall atmosphere is depressing.
If there was an option for no stars I would have made that choice.
The only saving grace of this place is their incredible desserts. The food itself was mediocre at best. I ordered the chicken fried steak "full order" and received a piece of meat that a starving child in Africa would be disappointed with (in regard to it's size). Â Other than the unbelievable desserts I've had better food out of frozen dinners.
Review Source:Texas country diner. A good version. There is a buffet at lunch or you can order off the menu. There is a choice of vegetables and usually three or four meats like chicken fried steak, meatloaf and catfish. All are good. I think I paid less than $7 for the buffet and it includes a roll, cornbread, a drink and dessert. The desserts and breads are home baked and above average. Staff is very nice and welcoming. REAL COWBOYS eat here. Try it and see if you agree that it is well worth the money.
