My boyfriend and I came here because we read such good Yelp reviews.
However, I would say overall, it's par for the course. We did enjoy the rosemary bread and olive oil spread that came before the meal. We also enjoyed the lightly battered calamari. However, my bf only rated his steak a 6/10. Although, it did not taste like butter as one Yelper said. I had the salmon and was pleased with the amount of vegetables that came along. We both tried the Man n' Cheese and while my bf liked it, I don't care for truffle oil so I wasn't that fond of it. I've had far better quality mac at other restaurants.
The Crocodile seems a notch above banquet food. Well presented, but lacking flavor. Random note- it's an older crowd.
This place consistently does a great job. Â I live nearby so I love to walk over for the occasional burger. Â I had the salmon the other night that was coated with parmesan and it was absolutely fantastic. Â I switched in potatoes from the original side and it was no problem. Â Their patio in summer is really nice as well. Â I tend to do burgers here and it's always mellow and peaceful. Â I appreciate the low noise level. Â Some places have music that's too loud and this place is super clean and comfortable. Â
They have sports on TV but it's not super loud so I really do appreciate that. Â And I think they make their own hamburger buns which is above and beyond. Â The chef does a lot of things that go the extra mile so I'm always impressed for what you pay.
Our third time at the crocodile and won't be our last! Began evening hoping for Los Agave but line was out the door and just didn't have the patience! Next stop..Harry's Plaza Cafe! We were told 44 min wait! Couldn't believe how invisible we felt so we said let's go to Lemon Tree where we know we'll get good food and service! We did! We were welcomed by a lovely waitress Nicole who is amazed as well how low key this place is! Truly amazing kitchen and food presentation! Rosemary chicken over garlic mash potatoes with grilled veggies! Absolutely delicious! My Bill ordered pecan crusted salmon! Looked like he licked the plate! Do not let looks deceive you go enjoy and tell them Debbie and Bill sent you! Heehee
Review Source:We had tickets for a play which began promptly at 7:30, and therefore had reservations for 5:15. Â This gave our party of four plenty of time to enjoy a cocktail before dinner, and relax over conversation during and after for a while. Â We could not have enjoyed the service more, nor the cheerful server who was attentive and helpful with menu suggestions. Â Complimentary tepanade and toast with cocktails was a treat, and the meals, all four, were perfect. Â We left having enjoyed a leisurely meal, and in plenty of time to attend our play afterwards.
Review Source:We are staying at the Lemon Tree Inn tonight so we decided to try the crocodile restaurant. Worst decision. The staff was friendly but the food was horrible. Â I'm not usually this blunt but our seasonal vegetables were drenched in olive oil (what? Why??) and the $26 filet mignon tasted like butter. Not steak. Butter. And smelled like dog to me but my husband said it just smelt like buttery popcorn. This is not how I want my steak to taste. I was so disappointed. We ordered a scoop of vanilla and cappuccino ice cream and after complaining we got one ice cream free, which was nice. We will definitely never return for the dinner service. What a shame.
I'm giving it two stars for the ice cream and the presentation. The dinner would get negative stars.
Restaurant is quiet during the day/lunch so not too sure how they are during dinner. But since we were staying at the Lemon Tree Inn, the restaurant is convenient for lounging out by the pool. Our group ordered the cesar salad, the cobb salad, the parmesan crusted salmon. Overall we were really happy with our order and I was extremely satisfied with the salmon I got. The fish was cooked perfectly and not salty at all. Buttery delicious, it had grilled vegetables accompanying the meal.
And super thumbs up for the restaurant delivering the food to us at the pool.
Excellent food! Kind staff! Great value!
I made a special trip up to Santa Barbara to attend a wedding and film some vineyards.
During my stay at the Lemon Tree Inn I made sure to enjoy breakfast on my second day followed by lunch on my third and dinner on the fourth all at their Crocodile Restaurant.
I have food allergies and a few are quite serious (mushrooms and truffles) so I mentioned this quietly to my waitress and she was so kind. Making sure all of my food contained ingredients I could enjoy and when she wasn't sure she took the time to ask.
The breakfast was huge! Also nicely seasoned for an omelet, my side of sausage was 4 long links and the fruit fresh and perfect.
For lunch the next day I enjoyed their Wedge salad and that too impressively large and filling on it's own. The super thick chunky dressing was full of blue cheese, bacon, tomatoes and black olives. Typical Italian genius, simple ingredients yet so wonderful when combined.
On my last evening in Santa Barbara I enjoyed dinner on the patio. I ordered a grilled chicken salad... and Tiramisu. It was great, especially the Tiramisu!! YUM
The staff was kind and courteous, it was quiet and relaxing. I didn't partake in their 'happy hour' but witnessed many other guests and visitors and they seemed to be having a wonderful time!
Bonus points: Having RUSACK Chardonnay on their wine menu. Excellent taste!
Can't say enough good things. Waiter was a bit shaky, but it didn't hurt the experience. I ordered the filet with the truffled mac and cheese. Holy bajeezus the mac and cheese was one of the tastiest things I've ever put into my food hole. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked and delicious. The ladys crusted salmon in lemon/caper sauce was delicious. Cooked to perfecton with veggies in an awesome sauce. I ordered vodka tonics with lime, a simple drink, and they were delicious. Simple but easy to mess up.
Review Source:Second time here....and PLEASE do not tell anyone else about the FAB happy hour drinks, great food and super service! Â First time, we met Jason, and he simply rocked! Â Husband had a SUPER $4.50 well martini on the patio and then we moved inside for dinner. Â Service was super! Â Thanks, Jason!
Now, that was several weeks ago, and due to a hip injury, we have not gone out much, but tired of being house-bound, I said "let's go out tonight"...and this was my first choice! Â Did not disappoint (except they need more Pinot Noir choices....none in stock tonight!) Â We started with a drink poolside.....and our server brought out a private note from the Bartender......Jason! Â How the heck did he remember us? Â He even came out a few mintutes later to say "hello" in person. He likes doing both...
serving and bartending. Â Being from the Customer Service biz, I was SO impressed!
Last time, the wedge salad blew us away...BACON & blue cheese abound , and I'm a critical greens gal. Tonight, we enjoyed a crisp Caesar and I got the anchovies....their salads are huge and easy to split. Â Also, enjoyed a bottle of Sav Blanc with the salmon pesto spaghetti. Moist fish and cooked right. Â Split again...and even took some home.
Finished with sharing a huge tiramusai (sure I spelled that wrong.) Â Food here is great.....cocktails large and the service simple super! Â It's on upper State and the bar is stocked with regulars. Â So, you know...it's a good thing! Â
Suggestion? Just get in a GREAT selection of Pinot red wines. Â While eating dinner, two other guests asked for a Pinot and were disappointed none were on hand.
Small point......but a BIg step in making this hidden gem into a diamond!

I called and placed a reservation 3 days before my coworker's actual birthday lunch. I specifically stated it was a work lunch, to ensure we wouldn't be waiting too long. There was 10 of us who majorily ordered paninis or salad. After the second round of bread, waters and an hour of waiting for our food we asked the "Manager" if we could get our food to go. The server, who was later identified as the "Manager" and working as the hostess, bartender and server, was cordial, but gave us no sense of urgency or sincere apology and made it seem like a nonchalant situation to the absolutely slow service we received. We finally got our food to-go with $40 off our bill by an hour and 15 minutes. I would have rather dined at Burger King than wait for small portions, horrendous service and loud noise from construction that they apparently are doing. PASS, THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT SERVICE! 10 people telling their 10 friends...bad for business!
We wanted a non-sports bar to watch Monday Night Football (we don't have cable - I know, it's sad) and we decided to try this place out. Very glad we did! I had a martini and mac & cheese and was incredibly content. We sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender - I felt like we were in an episode of Cheers...only at a hotel bar.
Review Source:Finally got around to giving this neighborhood place a try. What a nice, quiet, spacious restaurant, with a super friendly staff and great atmosphere, including a giant cuvee, white table cloths, dim lighting and attractive candles on each table. If they'd take down those old xmas lights, the place would look downright trendy! The prices are low for the portion and quality of the entrees. The Parmesan encrusted salmon was one of the best preparations I have ever eaten in Santa Babara. The mixed veggies were so good I almost liked them better than the fish, and I don't even like zucchini. I ate 2/3's of my fish and saved the rest, which was just as good leftover. My husband loved his filet mignon stroganoff over home-made spinach pasta. They even have Moretti & Stella on tap, and for only $4.50.
You can eat outside next to the pool, which looked nice but was so dark it was hard to tell. There was a business group out there with a Powerpoint presentation going on, so I assume it would be better lit otherwise. Heat lamps were in use also.
Other plusses: our waiter brought us a nice little olive tapenade with French bread slices before our dinner. At those prices, it was a pleasant surprise to get an "extra" free of charge. The menu is quite varied, I think they even had pizza, and a nice dessert selection with more than the old stand-bys that you find elsewhere.
I would give it 5 stars if they'd had better music - I liked the old big band music at first, but when Olde Lange Syne came on, that seemed a bit weird, in March. Some nice jazz would suit the decor better, or soft rock.
Never thought I was a "tablecloth" person but it was really nice to sit down to a pristine table set with sparkling wine glasses and candles, and have space around your table, unlike so many other places in SB who squeeze you in like sardines and charge double what the Crocodile charges. Check it out soon!
