We had an engagement party at The Underground, the bar attached next door. Great service, delicious food and chic setting.

Food is overpriced and their house beers taste like shit. This place thinks it's cooler than it actually is.

Yummy food! They've changed the whole menu a few times since they opened, so some of my favorites have gone away, but the chef is always experimenting with new plates. A bit pricey, but worth it for the atmosphere and gastronomy.

However, their signature drinks have been on a steady decline since they opened. New bartenders? I've been coming here for years, and each time, my drink experience is worse. I no longer come here for cocktails, just beer.

I suppose seeing the name plate include 'Restaurant' along with 'and Pub' made me think a good cup of tea could be had. I go in and placed my order of a hot cup of tea and what I get is herbal tea. I asked for a more 'British' tea and am told herbal is the only selection. Really? I found it very odd. I decided to try a fish and chips, but nothing like British fish and chips. Very disappointed.

Waited over 35 mins for a 15 min wait as others came in and were seated. Apparently we were forgotten by the hostess even though we were standing right by her. Will not go back!

I've eaten here twice and both experiences were wonderful but equally good. They have an excellent chef who changes the menu often (sometimes daily). There is something for everybody although the menu centers around British pub food. I had the sweet potato hash, which was presented in a pumpkin (in the spirit of Halloween). It was so delightfully good. Nice open environment to hang out and relax with friends, while enjoying a great meal. I've heard they have a very good brunch and I can't wait to experience that.

Came in on a Sunday morning for the $3 bloody marys. They were good and tall. Will have to come back next time in town to try the food.

I dine at the Crown at least once a week. Their menu is consistently unique and almost always delivers. They claim to be a gastropub, but I would wager that their prices should be a little lower on some menu items for that to be true. I have had some unique hummus concoctions (made fresh daily) that are my all-time favorites (sun-dried tomatos with feta and slices of portabello). Their beer selection is a nice blend of local crafts and popular imports, though I've yet to see anyone pour anything resembling a perfect pint of Guinness. If you are dining in the Old City, this place is a must try. Be warned, they only do brunch on Sunday.

Bartender was awesome. I wanted to pick a beer with a local flair, something I couldn't get at home, and she was patient and quite instructive.

European Cheese board was fabulous.

I would suggest this pub. Give it a spin.

Dined here twice last week, dinner for 4 (entrees and desserts only) with two alcoholic drinks $120. Lamb chops awesome but no mint sauce. Risotto with it - under-cooked sent back and credited. Clients rib eye perfectly cooked. Cocktails adequate but not strong.
Second trip - oysters - good/more lamb chops -consistently awesome, fish and chips meh! Overall nice atmosphere, really great service but slightly overpriced.
Will always re-visit when in Knox as I know they know how to cook meat.

Went here for dinner. Wow!
Started w a large board of European cheeses. several varieties... brie, gouda, swiss, rougfort (sp?), along with a little bit of a jam/jelly, cranberries, walnuts, and this "oh my gosh" good bread. Oh So Good!

The Bangers & Mash were awesome!! Sausages w mashed potatoes and gravy!

The Sheppard's Pie was not your Mom's sheppard's pie. Different & Yummy!

Interesting beer & wine list.

Dessert:
I had this Dark Chocolate cheesecake... 75% cocoa. Yummy!!! A bit on the bitter side, which is just fine w me, since I love dark chocolate!!!
Husband & daughter had the Bread Pudding!!! A must try!!!
We loved it all!!!

Service. 5/5. always re-filling our drinks, and checking if we need anything else. nice.
Atmosphere. 5/5. English pub/restaurant. nice. relaxed. we were here on a week nite, so not noisy.
Food. 5/5. Definitely 5 stars!!!

I've been here multiple times, and each time I wonder more and more why I come back. The previous time I went will definitely be the last.

The food is pretty good, and its only saving grace. Its difficult to find restaurants around here that use fresh ingredients and know how to cook them right. They do this reasonably well, and worth it for the prices they charge. I've had numerous dishes and they have all been good.

The reason why I won't come back is the service. Every time I go the host or hostess promptly ignores me for a good five minutes before recognizing there is someone waiting to be seated. The waiters don't pay much attention to you, and if you want a drink at the bar you might as well get it yourself.

I've been to places where I don't tip where they serve you better.

If it were not for the dearth of good food in Knoxville I would not have gone back as much as I have. But last time was definitely the last straw. I'll make my own damn fish and chips.

Relatively new to Knoxville (6 months), my wife and I have determined to see and experience as much as possible so as to assess the merits of each venue for when guests visit us. I am happy to report that Crown & Goose will be at the top of our GASTROMAND LIST as a place where visitors MUST go.

After a fun afternoon of river cruising and walking, we decided to visit the Old City. Having heard much about the Crown & Goose, we decided to try it out.

Having traveled to and stayed in and around London four times in the past 15 years, we've come to have an idea of how an English Pub should look and feel. The Crown & Goose is well-situated in the Old City, surrounded by architectural relics of the past. There are three separate dining areas at the C&G, including a relatively new part called the Underground that looks like an Underground station, a beer garden and the two main dining areas joined by a central bar. Dark wood trim accents the brick and mortar walls, with pressed tin ceiling tiles.

A few aspects of traditional pub life are noticeably absent (for which we are greatly relieved) and that is cigarettes, and dingy loos. Thank God!

We had Maryland blue crab sandwiches and a tower salad. The meal came with fries which ARE NOT the traditional thick cut proper chips, but they were tasty nonetheless with a great crunch. The crab was tasty and I don't know where they found the tomatoes for this sandwich, but they were outstanding. We topped the meal off with Sticky Toffee Pudding that was a bit o' heaven on earth.

The menu has two Ploughman's lunch selections as well as enough small plates to order and graze on for an hour or so while watching the foot traffic outside in this quaint part of Old Knoxville.

This place fills a niche. Not very well, mind you, but the niche is indeed filled.

It's a gastropub, which I guess means they serve drinks & overpriced bar food--now with salads!

We went on a Thursday night after a symphony concert. It was not very busy, but it still took a really long time to get anyone to offer service. I ordered the Modesto Chili cocktail--it was fine, not spicy enough and far too sweet.

We also ordered the fish & chips--if memory serves, it cost $14. Call me a purist, but if you are proclaiming yourself to be a British-y pub and you are NOT using a beer-batter on your fish, well--you blew it. Seriously--PANKO?? Lame. And I see no reason at all to fill up menu space touting the fact that it comes with homemade tartar sauce & homemade slaw--it damn well better, for $14. The portion was...let's just say "stingy"...and I'm being generous here.

They have things like fois gras and oysters on the menu, which I suppose technically makes them a gastropub, but really--this place costs too much for what it is.

Good God, I love C+G/The Underground. Amazing food, amazing drinks, great service. I'm almost hesitant to place this review out of fear that it will attract even more hipsters to the their twice-weekly jazz or beautiful, spacious beer garden, but finding a seat anywhere is already a challenge. Bring it on, and may the best one win!

I'm British, so while in town for work I was overjoyed when I heard there was a traditional British gastro pub in Knoxville. Real chips! Pudding and custard! Maybe if I was lucky they'd have Ribena! What transpired was an incredibly disappointing meal, not only in quality of food, but also the misrepresentation of the actual cuisine. I ordered the Crown and Goose English chips expecting nice thick cut proper chips, but what I got were string fries that appeared to come out of the freezer section at the local supermarket. The brussel sprouts were char broiled and burnt, and the fish that came with the chips looked more like something you find on a bun at McDonalds. The icing on the disappointment cake was being told they do whipped cream with the sticky toffee pudding because they "couldn't figure out how to make a good custard". Really? This is a gastro pub which would normally call for cutting edge culinary technology, and they can't make custard. Even I can make a good custard, and my culinary skills normally go no further than a bowl of cereal.

All in all the experience was incredibly disappointing, and I definitely won't be recommending to colleagues when they pass through town. I advise you avoid it too - unless you're into overpriced mediocre faire advertised as traditional British grub.

This place was pretty awesome but a touch pricey - about 12 good beers on tap and everything from traditional bangers and mash to a four type oyster sampler and sophisticated cheese plates. They also have one or two house brews as well.

Oysters were good, probably a little too fancy for my appreciation. Mussels were solid with a nice white wine sauce. BUT, the whiskey marinated dublin steak sandwich and crab eggs benedict were BOTH AMAZING. But the steak sandwich was superbly filling and then some.

You can have a cozy booth to chat or a table in front your favorite football game on Sunday morning. $3 bloody marys and mimosas!! Doesn't get any better.

I just moved to Knoxville, and this is the first real restaurant that my boyfriend I have been to in the new city (and in the Old City!). He had seen a billboard for it, but in his mind he had somehow renamed it "The Dog & Duck," so it took a little while to figure out what he was talking about. He claims it was an understandable mistake because he got the fowl part right... Still not sure how the crown became a dog...

But back to the Crown & Goose. One of the best things at the Crown and Goose was the beer selection! A respectable, but not overwhelming variety of domestic and imported beers are available, and there is an outdoor Beer Garden. The signature Royal Stout is a great choice for anyone who's up for a dark beer.

I also like that you could go here on a budget and order the classic dishes, or you could splurge with the "Proper Suppers." Some of the dishes were available in "pint size" plates, which provided about two bites' worth of food. Definitely not worth ordering those when there are already plenty of "small plates" to choose from on the menu.

Overall, though, nothing bad about the place. Between the deviled eggs, fish and chips, and shepherd's pie, we were happy as a dog and a duck... or a goose with a crown? We're still working that one out. Give The Crown & Goose a try!

Crown & Goose is definitely overrated. The atmosphere is stuck up, and the food and beer selection is really not that great. There are numerous cheaper and more laid back bars.

Our server was slow and not very friendly, and he did not care to take care of us very often. It was not particularly busy when we were there, so I expected better service.

The spicy potato planks were essentially seasoned, thick-cut fries. They were not very flavorful, and they were very dry and mealy inside. Definitely nothing special.

I would not recommend this establishment for grub or booze. Either head down to Fratsville (UT bar strip) or Market Square for some hipster-like bars. This English pub was not very satisfactory, in my opinion.

I would recommend C&G for all your fancy get togethers. Ambiance is wonderful, but not too stuffy. As a grad student, I've been there to air my grievances after finals.

Ironically, I like their evening services better. Their crabcake appetizer is delicious, so is their shepherd's pie! But their brunch? The hour and half wait wasn't worth the eggs benedict (which were actually, slightly overcooked). Plus, the service was really bad (perhaps it's because I went the weekend after graduation).

I might go at it again for brunch, but their evening specials are great -- and if you come at the right time, their decorations (e.g. Christmas) are just simply beautiful.

Crown and Goose is one of the reasons why you might debate becoming a vegan.

More specifically, the Bangers and Mash. Before I made the big change into becoming meat-free, I ordered them, ate them, and entered into taste heaven. They had all the flavour and spice of their English brethren, not Americanized in the slightest, really. The two others in my party both ordered the Shepherd's Pie, and were happy to report that it also kept the charm of the United Kingdom. In addition to this delicious food, the tea was criminally good.

We dined here around Christmas time, and despite having a party taking place there shortly after our arrival, the staff happily seated us and didn't act like it was a hassle that we were there in any way. The price is pretty modest here as well, which is always a plus around the holidays! It was just a really good experience overall.

To be truthful, I'm unaware if they have any vegan or vegetarian dishes, but if you love standard pub fare, you should give this place a try.

Well, they definitely have the English pub down! This is a pretty cool place to stop in and have a pint and some grub, but I wouldn't put it among the top places to eat in town. Quite a few beers on tap but I would like to have seen a list of what was on draught and in bottles. I settled on a Gaelic ale which was pretty crisp and malty.

Their menu is interesting...there is the typical fish and chips and burgers, but then there's risotto and duck confit. Would you get a burger at a place with duck confit? Would you get risotto at a place that has burgers?? Kinda weird if you ask me. As much as I wanted the duck, I was a whimp and settled with the fish and chips, the fish was pretty good. It was fresh cod lightly fried and not super battered and greasy, which was nice. Quite pricey for most dishes but the small plates and appetizers had small portions for a reasonable price.

A group I was a part of reserved a table for the New Year's dinner. Apparently in the past there have only been two settings for New Year's Eve. This year they got greedy and set three. The result was our table was over 30 minutes behind when we got there and the staff hassled us about switching to another table that was not reserved and the people were not even there (nor did they ever show).

When we finally were seated, the service was horrendous. I expect this type of terrible service (waiter comes by every half hour or more) in a large city like DC or NYC, but not in Knoxville. My food in particular was consistently late (as opposed ot the others at the table) in arriving. The waiter also failed to take away plates, etc. in a timely fashion. Overall, the service was slow and completely unacceptable. What's more, the check included a mandatory 20% gratuity whichwas not earned in the least.

The food was ok at best. The quail appetizer as well as the tuna were good. The entree of Beef Wellington didn't do much for me. I was told that some of the other entrees (lobster and duck) were good. Apparently, I got the bad draw. Overall, the food was average.

My complaints would be much more tempered were it not for the fact that this was a special reservation, New Year's Eve dinner. Moreover, the price with the mandatory tip was $230. If I'm paying this much for dinner, I expect more than average food and below average service.

I won't say that the C & G is not a good place to go ever. Nonetheless, I would highly discourage anyone from making a special reservation for a holiday meal if and until they get their act together. I will not again be paying over $200 for such a lousy event.

The menu for the Chimay Trappist Belgian Beer Dinner sounded so amazing, that myself and five friends couldn't resist. But when paying $35 for a special dinner in Knoxville, I expect it to be just that...special.

Getting a reservation was awkward and difficult. The server/host seemed to have absolutely no idea what was going on. It took him ten minutes of walking too and from the bar to finally write down my name. He was very cold and unfriendly. I wondered if I even wanted to eat there.

The first course was an appetizer of Belgian style mussles and frittes. The mussels were perfect. Not too strong of an ocean flavor with a great texture. The onions and sauce were a great compliment. The frittes were simple french fries. The smoothness of Chimay Premier Rouge made it a good pairing.

The second course included Belgian style onion soup and a small grilled cheese sandwich. The soup was no different from a standard French onion except this one had no cheese. There was nothing particularly extraordinary about this soup. The sandwich was very small and prepared on focaccia bread. The cheese used was a delicious Chimay gruyere. Unfortunately, the beer pairing of Chimay White didn't seem like quite the right fit. It was a bit too hoppy and sweet.

The third course was seared duck breast over baby arugula, spinach, and onion mashed potatoes. This dish was wonderful and the honey dijon mustard dressing helped all of the flavors combine perfectly. The arugula wasn't too bitter and the duck was seared to the ultimate medium rare. As instructed, we slowly sipped our Chimay Blue. It accompanied this dish and the Dolce Nero espresso liqueur chocolate mousse with ease. It was easy to understand why this is a top fermented Trappist beer.

The thing that made this event altogether unenjoyable was the very loud band that was playing. Jen and Juice play cheesy cover songs like "Tears in Heaven", "Come to my window", and a version of "Brown Eyed Girl" that made us stare at each other as if to say "really? are you serious?". After a while, someone at our table wondered why they don't just play "Freebird". About 15 seconds later, the band started playing the intro. We started laughing but only because we were amused at the rediculousness of the situation. This was definitely not something we wanted at 6pm while attending a nice meal and straining to hear the National Chimay Representative.

The food, beer, and server Scott made this a decent experience. I might attend next months beer dinner at The Crown and Goose...but let's hope there's no band, the start time is pushed back to 7pm, and the food portions are larger.

Crown and Goose is one of my favorite spots in Knoxville. It's a nice change from the usual chain restaurants that Knoxville has been swamped with- C&G also has a nice casual and relaxed atmosphere. They offer some not so easily found brews and have a nice wine selection as well.

We had dinner there last night and shared a cheese plate with our friends to start. I had the mussels and mozzarella appetizer plates as my entree (as suggested by our server). They were both very good. It's also nice that the appetizer plates come in 2 sizes My hubby enjoyed the fish and chips- a house favorite. We were all very pleased with the food, drinks and service. One tip, if you're visiting on a weekend, reservations are a must. We arrived around 7PM and it was already filling up.

I have read other comments about the menu pricing and all I can say to that is that I completely disagree. I have been to many other higher-priced establishments in K'ville and the food is not as half as good.

We will definitely be back.

We visited on a Saturday night after a Vol's loss. Crowd was decent, and of mixed ages. Service, by Curtis, was great! The Invaders were playing British invasion rock and sounded good. My husband started off with an 18 year old scotch which he said was, "sweet and smoky with a hint of berry flavor." He thought it was worth treating himself at $20, but not something he'd do every day.

Foodwise, we ordered the bangers and mash - some of the best we've had in a pub, and we've had a few; the cheese plate was a nice variety of cheeses along with fruit and nuts- yum! The best thing we ate was last, in my opinion... the chocolate pecan tart. A really good dark chocolate with just the right amount of sweetness, a pecan crust, and strawberries. Mmmm! (But I've been dieting.) The food and drink here wasn't in huge portions or bargain prices, but that isn't the point of a gastropub. Since we prefer to focus on quality rather than quantity, the Crown and Goose is a nice fit for us.

Overall, we had a nice night out in Old City. I feel safe in Old City with my 6'3" hubby by my side. I don't think I'd visit by myself at night though. The college "polo/khakis and leggings/hooker heels" crowd mentioned in a previous review did start to show up as we were leaving around 10:30. I think the atmosphere was about to change, and it wasn't in a direction to my liking. Timing may be the key to getting what you're looking for in this pub.

When planning a dinner out in Knoxville, I came across The Crown & Goose website. I was intrigued by the beer garden, so off we went. I have to admit that I was shocked when we arrived because the restaurant was empty (Saturday night around 7 PM). We just shrugged it off and took our seats.

The most disappointing thing about The Crown & Goose is the beer selection. They have less than 10 beers on tap! However, they do have quite a few interesting bottled beers and a list of unique drinks. I tried the French Martini--a little bland, weak, but a pretty color of pink.

We started the meal with the Mezze plate (prosciutto, olives, chicken mousse, anchovies, spiced almonds, salmon, and bread). The sampler platter allowed us to sample quite a few different options. I don't know if I would have tried the chicken mousse otherwise. For dinner, I tried Gobble the Gobbler. The turkey was amazingly moist and delicious. The mashed potatoes were creamy and amazing, but the gravy was bland. There was only a single piece of bread in the sandwich, but we had ordered an extra side of bread to add to the sandwich. The bread was delicious! We brought some home and had it as an evening snack. We also had a side of asparagus, which was amazing! The asparagus was the perfectly cooked and the herb butter was the perfect accompaniment.

Overall The Crown & Goose was a fun place to have dinner, but I probably won't go back for another meal.

We went while in Knoxville visiting my girlfriend's mother and step-dad. They had been before and suggested we go for dinner on the Saturday night we were in town. The place was very busy at 7 pm so it's a good thing we had reservations. I'm a big fan of English/Irish pubs and this one did not disappoint. The service was very good, the food tasty and served promptly despite the crowd and the bar stocked two beers on tap made especially for them - and IPA and a Stout. The Stout was excellent and 2 20 oz Imperial Pints quickly disappeared down the gullet. The IPA was not the American IPA with its face melting bitterness most of us are used to. It's far more balanced and would probably disappoint a true hop-head.

I had the bangers and mash (my benchmark meal for an English pub) plus an add on roasted acorn squash. Also served to the table were traditional fish and chips and shepard's pie with two add on lamb chops. my bangers were delicious being cooked perfectly and with drizzle of spicy mustard. The acorn squash was a little bland w/o the traditional cinnamon/brown sugar dreg.

In my opinion, the fish and chips were hit and miss. The flavor of the fish was good but I was surprised at the small serving sizes. I guess I've grown used to large fillets when it comes to fish and chips. Also, in a nod to current style, the chips (i.e. french fries to Americans) were cut in very slender slices and served in those ice cream cone looking racks that are so popular.

I think the tastiest thing on the table was the shepard's pie. It was one of the better ones I can remember having. Unfortunately, the lamb chops were served quite rare when the order was for medium. The server and kitchen quickly replaced them with the right temperature however.

Menu prices for dinner range mostly in the $10 -$20 area. Earlier in the day we had turned our hosts onto http://Restaurant.com and were able to get a $25 gift certificate for just 2 bucks! All-in-all, especially with the $25 savings, I enjoyed our visit and would return on future trip. They apparently have a beer garden/patio available during the warm season and I could see myself relaxing there some summer afternoon.

I really liked this place. Being from Boston, i was blown away by how cheap the drinks were here. It must have been a happy hour, but we had i think 4 good beers total plus a glass of high end whiskey for like $16.

They have a modest but nice beer selection, and the room is just really pleasant. We were there in early September and the place was totally airy and comfortable. The bartender was knowledgable and friendly.

I didn't try the food, I had already eaten elsewhere, and we were seated at the bar so i didnt get a good look at anything anybody else was eating. but for drinking, this place is great.

I live in Chicago and recently took a trip to visit friends and family at the University of Tennessee. I was SO pleasantly surprised by The Crown & Goose that I had to Yelp!

We went to dinner with a large group on a Friday night and were able to sit in the beer garden without having to wait. The food was fantastic, highlights include:

1. The Fish & Chips are not just your standard Fish & Chips. The breading is extra crunchy and delicious, while the fish was perfectly cooked and flaky.
2. The Pork Osso Bucco was so tender and just fell apart as you ate it. And - the creamy risotto served with it was cooked perfectly and was a perfect addition to the pork.
3. Fries were great!
4. One of my fellow diners said the Steak Sandwich was top notch as well.

We stayed outside, however inside was packed with a lot of great energy. There was even an "English Invasion" cover-band playing live music.

If you are in Knoxville, TN - this place is not to be missed!

On a recent trip to Knoxville, after exhausting all the sightseeing of Downtown (total time required: 15 minutes), my boyfriend and I decided to check out the Old City. Right away I was intrigued because I love "Old Towns" and "Old City"'s. The area was completely dead and since we both fancied a pint, we checked out The Crown & Goose.

The most exciting aspect of the C&G were the prices, but I recognize that I'm from LA so my idea of what a beer should cost is highly inflated. Still, I was shocked: $3 for a pint-- and it wasn't even HAPPY HOUR?! I almost did a spit take when I saw the bill. Of course, I had to lean over and whisper to my boyfriend: "Did you see this? $3? In LA this would be double that!" and he just shook his head with that sly semi-Southern smile of his. Oh yes, we're not in LA anymore.

Over all, I thought the beer and ambiance were great. I appreciate their efforts to make this look like a real British pub, and even though it borders on kitsch, it's still nice.

A typical Friday-night conversation at home:

Me: "How about the Goose for dinner?"
Her: "Pass. It's after 6:00pm. I don't want to get killed."
Me: "Old City isn't that bad. We won't get killed."
Her: "Fine. I don't want to get peed on."
Me: "Agreed. Let's head towards Bearden and see what looks good."

If you're still undeterred at the prospect of heading into Old City for dinner, then read on!

The Crown & Goose has a lot going for it. Decent draft beers, a pretty extensive menu of traditional English pub food with a gastropub twist, and a nice outdoor patio / beer garden. They serve a nice Sunday brunch and the atmosphere is above average for a "pub."

Food is a little on the expensive side for what you get. If you can hit the Goose for happy hour, that's the best way to try a variety of beers and foods from the bar and decide what tickles your fancy. I'm partial to the fish nibbles.

Service is hit or miss. It's really just a luck of the draw kind of thing. You might get someone who's really on the ball and attentive or you might get the resident ghost.

I can't comment on the late night scene - you're better off going with another Yelper's interpretation for that.

I really like this place! The food is awesome, and it is something totally different than Knoxville's usual food options.

The decor is very pretty, the patio outside rocks, and the service has always been pretty good for us.

My favorite items on the menu are the cheese plates, the welsh rabbit, and the fish and chips. MMmmmm!!!

This place is a little expensive and the happy hour prices are more what I would like to pay on a regular basis! I seem to remember their beer prices being on par with Southern California's beer prices. (Beer on tap seems to be soooo much cheaper in the South!)

I advise to try to stay away from the side furthest from the patio if you are on a date that you want to speak to the person you are with! That side has a lot of lounge seating and a bunch of people doing the bar thing, so it gets louder. Also, don't let them seat you on that side against the window. There is a second door over there and tons of people want to use it, which is annoying during your meal.

Stars knocked off for the pricing and because I hate the type of crowd in the Old City that frequents this bar as they hop from one to another on the weekends.

update:
The service that I received last time was very mediocre and at times, rude. The hostess greeted us by saying, "Can I help you?" with the tone of someone offended by our entrance, rather than the traditional, "Would you like outside or inside seating?". Whatever.
The waiter didn't bother to tell us the specials until we asked and then he said he didn't know what they were. He seemed bored.
The food wasn't so amazing either this time. The grilled cheese sandwich was a bit stale. The soup was fine, but there wasn't much there. Hmmmm. Too bad, cause I really like the little beer garden.

When you go out to eat, you are paying for service, not just food, right?

old review:
Great outdoor seating - like a mini bier-garten. Try the desserts, because they are scrumptious. Not much for vegetarians except cheese-laden options, but the cheese is very good and I love it with a tomato bisque. I've been here several times and the only time I had a bad experience was with the weekend brunch, as my food (pancake like balls) was undercooked and therefore the dough was still raw. Disgusting.
Other than that, I enjoy the lively atmosphere while I drink a "Lady Guinevere" with my friends.

Best Patio in Knoxvile by far!! The cheese plate is awesome. Take a stroll down to this place on an afternoon and reserve a patio table because the patio really is great! The draft beers are a bit pricey so order wisely.

They have comfy sofas with open doors on a nice day close to the bar which is also a good place to sit. The Fish and Chips are good, but they are just fish and chips. The duck breast absolutely rocks! I had my first Shepard's Pie and I was not quite sure what to expect. It was good, but I don't think that particular dish is something I would typically order. I was not impressed with the wedge salad. It needed more blue cheese crumbles. The caesar salad was pretty good. They have pretty good happy hour specials. Check them out!

I'm giving them four stars because they have an awesome patio! Otherwise they would get three stars.

Pretty big fan of the Crown and Goose. Every time I've been here it's been great.

I've sat in the comfy lounge chairs and on the patio and seriously have no complaints as to the locale.

The crowd, however, can be obnoxious. If you're not a fan of the frat boy/college airhead scene then be sure to heed this warning--avoid this (and well, just about any place in Knoxville) on the late Friday and Saturday hours and you'll be okay. It gets crowded those nights and people are not there for the authentic British pub experience, but to get drunk. Seriously guys, there are cheaper places for you to throw your "my daddy just bought me this polo shirt and khakis/trashy, outdated leggings with hooker shoes" look around. Seriously.

As for their food it's pretty fantastic. I've frequented a few British pubs and this probably has the most inventive menu and bar items. I love trying out new stuff here. Everything's been great. Service has also always been pretty awesome too.

Eat, drink and be merry!

Visited the Crown and Goose for Sunday brunch. I don't know about the authentic aspect of the gastropub experience, but it was nice. We started with some drinks, a bloody mary and a poinsettia. The drinks were fine, my bloody mary was nice and spicy.

We ordered Eggs benedict, with bacon and bangers. The eggs are served on fried green tomatos, with beef or crab. We had the crab. The sauce was nice, and the crab was good as well. The tomato, well, it wasn't memorable.

The bacon came highly recommended, but it just didn't represent very well. The bangers were good breakfast sausages.

They also have a patio area, which would be great for sunny weekend drinking.
Overall, a good experience. I look forward to happy hours and dinners at the Crown and Goose.
