I give Cruizer's 5 stars because it's exactly what it's supposed to be. Â Hamburgers, hot dogs, homecooked comfort food. Â Family owned, Fried, dipped, and gravied. Â I love their shrimp and grits. Â It's great with Chris' homemade hot sauce (warning, it will peel the pain off your car.) Â It's where the fire dept. folks go for lunch. Â There is a "PoPo Parking sign" over the booth where the police who eat there every day sit. Â You hear 50's and 60s tunes in the background. Â The owner, Chris, will come out and joke with you. (in his grease stained Cruizers shirt) Kids get free ice cream. (usually) Â Fox news (silent) on the T.V. and church pamphlets on the counter are part of the deal, usually a turnoff for me, but the charm, friendliness, and good solid food win out!!
Review Source:Friendly service, clearly a little Republican for my liking. Â
I had a delicious open-faced roast beef sandwich and yummy fried green tomatoes. Â My wife's French Dip had kind of a sour smell to it, so she was afraid to finish it the next day, but I can't really say if it was bad or not. Â
Overall, a legit little diner in Candler that's worth a try if you want some comfort food.
This was one of those providential stops that almost didn't happen.
After backpacking with some friends in the Shining Rock Wilderness area, we attemted to find some Thai nearby. Â After a humorous failed attempt, we nearly missed Cruizer's. Â It was honestly a last chance effort to find food, and we were skeptical as we entered, as it seemed a little janky.
Boy were we wrong. Â We snuck in at 8:57 when the place closed at 9:00, but Chris was more than happy to feed us and keep us company past 9:30! Â The service here is OUTSTANDING. Â Not to mention the food. Â While we were the only ones there, the personal attention and friendly nature of the staff is clearly a staple.
The food was great, and there is quite a selection, including everything from breakfast to standard diner fare, to homecooked dinner entres and ice cream to cap it off! Â Plus, apparently first time customers get free ice cream! Â
Even though this place is a little out of the way, I would highly recommend taking the extra ten minutes to run down Highway 23 to grab a bite and some conversation at Cruizers. Â If you ever do, make sure to tell Chris that Drew, Maggie, and Briggs say hi!
