We visited this DQ on our way out of Austin and then back again on our return trip. Â We did not look at yelp on the way outbound, but did on our return. Â I really don't have much recollection of our first visit other than it was typical DQ food.
I was concerned about the wait when I read yelp on the way back, though, so I timed the drive through. Â It took two minutes to get to the place where we could order (not bad) and when we pulled to the window after ordering it took four minutes before anyone appeared with our order. Â Generally, someone will acknowledge you and then go away and that did not happen here. Â This wait seemed a little long, but hey it's a DQ in a rural town. Food was fine and certainly the person that waited on us seemed rather disinterested, but I didn't expect much more.
If you've ever eaten at a DQ before, you know that you cannot have your hopes set too high. As with every other visit to every other DQ, this one was what you'de expect...
The service took longer then it should, the employees didn't give a crap about there job, the toilets are small and less than spotless. Again, exactly what you would expect.
The plus side, if you'er cruising through and need food then the list is pretty short so DQ served a vital role for us. When we finally got the food it wasn't terrible and the large drinks were appreciated.
If I had a list of choices I would have probably chosen something different, but road tripping through Texas pretty well limits the good* places to eat so I'll probably have to stop by another DQ next time I hit the road.
My family and I were on the way back from out of town. Â We had to make a quick pit stop and decided that Dairy Queen would do just fine.
1. There are no changing tables. When in the frick are family restaurants going to realize that family places need to have changing tables? Â ARGH
Minus a star. Not to mention that the restroom is tiny.
2. Â The wait....oh the wait.....I ordered a mini-blizzard and a large order of fries. About 10 to 15 minutes later, I get my blizzard. Â Add another 10 minutes for the fries. Â I'm assuming the employee had to drive to the farm, pick the potato, bring it back, wash and prepare it. Â Minus two stars.
Had I of known that this little stop was going to add an extra 20-30 minutes to my trip, I would have kept on driving. Â I doubt we'd ever stop for a full meal here. This was just silly.
When I was 7, Dairy Queen was the shizzle. I was excited about corn dogs and dilly bars. Fast forward 35 years, my kids are about the pinnacle age of soft serve ecstasy, So when plowing thru Lampassas, this location catches my eye for a quick bite to eat before we get home.
What happened to this place? Not only does the food take 20 minutes, bland, tough and overcooked, but the staff has GOT to be the biggest bunch of curmudgeons on the face of the earth. Look, I'm sorry you live in Lampassas, it looks like a wonderful little town. But if you hate it that much, get out. Dont scour at customers. (maybe that made the steak finger basket tough as a 2x4) To add some levity, I was the one that said "thank you" to the sexless freak manager who brought our food~ we only got a blank stare in return. Maybe the bitch had never seen Asians.
Anyway, the food sucks. and the wait in a crappy place like this makes it even worse.
